Hello Rae! First of all, spoilers for the "Three Jokers" comic, but I just finished reading it, and I'm so confused about the whole Jason and Barbara thing😭 How did DC sweep under the rug Jason's (love?) letter to Barbara at the end?? I think I might misremember things, but I don't recall their relationship being mentioned ever again. In a way, it does make sense, as their relationship can be built on their shared traumas and the whole 'making each other a better person' so I'm a bit dumbfounded that DC? didn't? At the very least, give them a chance? What are your thoughts on this if you've read the comics and would you change it?

Hi, nonnie! Ah, I'm so glad you asked! Jason's love letter literally got swept under the rug. Like actually, after he went and taped it to the door, it fell off. A panel later, we see a janitor come by with a broom and sweep it away with a bunch of trash and dust.

It never gets brought up again because in the letter, Jason says something along the lines of 'if you ignore this, I'll know how you feel and we never have to talk about it. I'll understand and pretend this didn't happen' and something self-deprecating. (From what I remember I read it a few years ago)

Now, my thoughts on Jason and Barbara being together, I don't love it. It's nothing against Barbara, and it's nothing against Jason. I'll elaborate under the cut.

I absolutely see them bonding over their shared trauma, but I've always seen it as a friend way or even as family. (I also don't think trauma is a great thing to build a romantic relationship from, but that's neither here nor there)

Anyway, Barbara was already a teenage/adult (depending on the universe) by the time Jason came around as Robin. So I definitely see him having a childhood crush on her. She's badass and awesome and extremely intelligent.

But when it comes to them actually dating, it's not for me. I really prefer when they have their own cast of characters. (i.e., Jason dating Artemis or Rose Wilson or Isabel)

It's also the fact that Barbara has dated/married Dick Grayson in so many lifetimes. When you think of Dick Grayson and a romantic interest, you either think Starfire or Batgirl, and that's something that won't change. To have her date Jason feels like a disservice to both of their characters.

Once again, Jason is getting Dick's 'leftover support cast'. (Babs is a main character in her own right but I digress) and Babs is once again being used as some kind of 'Fridge Wife'.

Maybe if I saw it written well, it would change my mind, but I really can't see them together, especially for the long term. Especially if Jason is running with The Oulaws and Barbara is running the Birds of Prey (a comic run I actually adored, they were so cool)

Please feel free to convince me otherwise, but that is a ship I don't really see happening, as a fan, and if I try thinking from a creators perspective.

× the prologue of Nevada meeting Connor's mom for the first time (I was ready to throw hands when we didn't get to see it at the end of book 3, so this made up for that) - that alone would be an easy 4*, its just the rest of it that dragged this down

× seeing a lil more of Connor and the rest of House Baylor, my beloveds

× meeting poison girl - Rune? - who I'm pretty sure is gonna have a thing with Burn (hell yeah)

× getting to see Rogan's extended fam, even if most of them were terrible and I totally understand why he likes to avoid a large chunk of them

× Rogan & Nevada's wedding (even if we only got crumbs)

× wrapping up the Kelly situation - it was v quickly done and not at all the way I had hoped to see it play out, but at least we got some resolution, which I was v much missing at the end of wildfire

honestly, all of the above would have me considering a 3 or 4* rating, but sadly there's more, so

× (i've seen ppl say Rogan & Nevada get some p unfortunate character assassination in catalina's books, and reading this i can believe it💀)

× (also been considering soldiering thru the catalina trilogy in large for the Rogan&Nevada crumbs, but I just read a review that said they went for the R&N crumbs too, but there was barely any..)

× I get that she's only 18 and having insecurities is tots legit an all, i.. just.. really didn't vibe with her thoughts & issues and it all came off as v bottom ya - no thx

× tbf I love House Baylor and would've loved to read about p much everyone in that fam, except for Catalina, she was OK as a side character, but I didn't really care for her, gimme Arabella, Burn, Leon, hell I'd even be down for meemaw Frida (badass that she is) and Penelope's stories, that fam is full of awesome characters and instead we get saddled with wet noodle Catalina😭🤧

× don't even get me started on her powers💀 she now apparently has wings and sings... cool cool cool <s>not</s>🙄, but nooo that's not enough, turns out she can basically do the same thing as Nevada & their "evil" meemaw, but in a nice, non intrusive, humane way, where they don't feel violated, in fact!! they won't even remember, if she doesn't want them to!! <b>meet the new & improved Nevada 2.0</b> it now comes with a bunch of insecurities too!! - hard pass

× i saw someone describe C+A as the angsty ya version of Rogan & Nevada (but worse, sm worse lmao) and if this book is any indication, I'm inclined to believe its true

i wish this was written in Nevada's POV and more focused on Rogan & Nevada (its their damn wedding after all), but I get why I.A. would use this as an opportunity to segway into Catalina's trilogy - it makes sense, doesn't mean I have to like it🤷🏻‍♀️

at least we got some resolutions I was missing at the end of Wildfire & it was worth the read for that prologue and the crumbs of Rogan, Nevada and the rest of House Baylor

(I really love Rogan&Nevada, and I really wanna see more of them, there's also a lot of side characters I'd be interested in seeing more of, but if that means having to suffer thru 3 more books of Catalina's POV + some of the other stuff I read about.. I think I might be better off cherishing the memories of the first 3 books, at least for the time being, and if we actually get around to Arabella's trilogy I might have to reconsider..)

Okay first absolutely loved it and I loved how it mentioned all the past movies and the characters and with the shrine too.

I also really LOVED the fact that Kirby was in it and became an FBI agent, thought that was awesome and cool especially since Dewey and his other cop friend died :(, they both were my favorite but then they got killed off in the previous one but I'm glad Kirby was brought in and become sorta the new protector of the group like Dewey.

Gale is badass and pretty fucking strong, like during her fight with GF she managed to hold her own like really well, also really loved how when Sam tried to punch her Gale just knew thanks to Sidney, loved that they added that in.

I wished Dewey and Sidney were still in the picture but it makes sense for her not to be, she just wants to move on, and I hated that Dewey died in the last one, I just wished he had gotten his happy ever after.

I think I adore Mindy because she's just like Randy and it shows and I'm glad that she turned out to be a lot like him while Chad is the more reserved one out of them both.

I liked how Mindy and Kirby bonded over being nerds about the movies and the franchise.

Really wished that Kirby, Sam, and Tara had more scenes together, thought it was cool though how Kirby considered the group to be their own fucked up family.

I laughed when at the end Sam and Tara are having their heart to heart talk and poor FBI Kirby Reed is just bleeding out and probably passed out from being stabbed, knocked out, and shot, Chad is also bleeding out somewhere from being stabbed so many times, Mindy and Gale are recovering in the hospital, and Danny is just somewhere around the city waiting for them to come home, and Tara and Sam are stabbed and just chatting away. 😂😭

I was also so happy when finding out that Kirby, Gale, and Mindy lived.

I liked how they did the beginning with the two wannabe GF killers but then they twist it around so quickly.

I hated how Anika(?) died, her head hitting that thing sounded so fucked and all the others could do was watch.

Couldn't believe that when Tara and Sam stole the car that they let Tara drive, she's the smallest out of the whole group and it seemed like she can barely see over the steering wheel. 😭

I liked the tidbit about Randy and the van and was glad that they brought it up.

Overall the movie was awesome and I absolutely loved it!!!

Hey, I don't know if anyone's mentioned this to you before, but I just wanted to say making Vera's color scheme pink (with black) totally makes her super recognizable and iconic, you know? It's a genius character design choice to me because in all of Resident Evil, there's no other character that's "pink," so she really stands out in a fresh way. It's like you filled a gap we didn't even realize was there. Plus, she's got that whole tech vibe going on, which is so cool because she stands out from all the scientists and badass fighters dealing with bioterrorism. I just think she's awesome and the thought put into her design is top-notch! I miss her sm I hope you update soon <3

Because good god RE has so many good female characters who are so unique, and color-coded somehow, honest to god I was like "WHAT IS LEFT IN THIS UNIVERSE I DONT KNOW HOW TO MAKE A DISTINCTIVE OC WHAT AM I GONNA DO"

----- like, I had a friend who knows extremely early drafts of her, and embarrassingly she was a corrupt, snobby, scope-hungry journalist redhead who wore red and dressed like veronica lodge from riverdale 🙃🤐

and then she was korean for a while (this fell after i discovered ashiemochi's so-ah). and then turkish. and then the turkish journalist thing fell AS WELL because i discovered other journalist ocs on tumblr paired with leon and a turkish journalist on wattpad and i was like "oh my god fuck i am scrapping everything" (this idea later got recycled in moth to a flame)

first drafts are absolute hell, as you can see.

i actually dont remember how i got the pink idea. im also like. obsessed with color? i guess. i like to categorize so it's always fascinating when a character/thing is associated with a color/symbol/animal/ and owns it -- like, the girlies in RE -- they made Ashley orange-yellow, sheva purple (kinda? its not as prominent as the others), rebecca pistachio green, alex wesker white, ada cherry red, claire apple red and it just HITS, it could just be a me-thing though. It falls apart at one pointt I know, because how many characters can you color code hahahah (and they didnt even try with the men. they're shades of blue, all of them. or black. bo-ring. they went with the hair and body type for them while the girls got the colors kinda DDJSKDS) -- so take it with a grain of salt, it's just that I love color as a starting and developing point and I cant overgrow it 😭

but like. interestingly there was no pink pink character like you said — apart from moira burton that is who has it in like the hood of her jacket and bracelet and nowhere else, though she is a minor character? i guess in a zombie game franchise marketed to boys majorly in earlier years, they wouldn't really prefer pink LMAO so it was easier to bubblegum chainsaw an OC in since that was a deliberately left alone concept. I was like "mine now" and put a spin to it!!!!! I love that she's just black-pink. It's her whole thing. Such a satisfying thing to me to work with

Actually I was a little let down by the final fight. Like it was a cool concept and I enjoyed getting to play with the ballistas bc u keep seeing them in other parts of the game. But I basically had to play as Leiliana the whole time ajdkdjj. I built my character as a badass warrior with BUSTED strength and it was lowkey useless bc the final boss is out of range for 90% of the fight and I sold my crossbow to Sandal for more healing potions. Broooo 😭☠️💔

So yeah uh. SUPER awesome game I loved 90% of it (the combat on ps3 actually kills my hands bc of the constant L2 holding or tapping for radial menu and giving orders. SO PAINFUL please tell me they change this in the sequels it fucking HURTS). Fyi it actually was an interesting ending, I don't fault it and actually thematically it was cool to team up with Loghain for the last few hours, I'm just emotionally butthurt my whole imagined future with Allistaire went down the drain 😭💔 I love how many choices you get in this game tho and how they aren't always predictable. It's nice to not be able to 'game the system' for a 'perfect' ending as much as say, P5 or similar rpg/jrpgs lol. I like that you can fuck up REAL BAD with your companions lmao.

I have the other 2 games on ps3 waiting, fighting the urge to dive into 2 asap bc I want to digest Origins first but mmmm. I see why ppl went crazy for these. If I'd had these a decade ago I woulda replayed SO MANY times for real, this is what I wanted out of Skyrim story/companion-wise 🙏

Favorite female character? Nogi Wakaba. She is my Ryan Gosling. She is literally me. Second place, is Fu. In a better world she and I are besties.

Favorite male character? There are like… 0 named men in this anime that I can think of lol😭

Favorite season? It technically counts, but the first 6 episodes of season 2, aka the Washio Sumi arc. If Nogi Wakaba’s arc was actually adapted well into anime it would go here, but because it wasn’t… the Washio arc was really good. Really sweet, really sad, banger music and great jokes.

Favorite episode? Episode 8 of season 1. First and only anime I’ve watched to make me cry so hard I took a break from the show for 2 weeks.

Favorite cast member? ALL of MONACA. Just like their work in NieR, they are godly composers. A song in the soundtrack is literally called something like “12 stars 5 flowers”(?) and it will be the most badass track you’ll hear all week.

Favorite ship? Yuna and Karin!! I love pairings where the fun golucky one slowly breaks the much more hot-headed one out of their shell, and they have some really sweet moments. Plus, season 2 especially shows just how much Karin has come to care about Yuna after all they’ve gone through. Plus Karin is one of few “tsundere” types I can stand in anime, so she deserves it.

On that note, I also really grew to like Yuna herself! I was totally bored of her in season 1 because her “I believe in us! Do good be kind YEAH!” Anime Protagonist schtick was not my thing, but season 2 fleshed her out a TON. obviously she has nothing on my girl Wakaba (because you can’t beat perfection <3), but she’s still awesome.

Anti-OTP? …Togo and Yuna. I know it’s like, the thing, but it’s just not my thing and the “pink haired bubbly girl x quiet dark haired cool colored girl” thing in magical girl animes has been done to death. It’s much sweeter platonically for me!

Ok but actually Palm overcoming the soldier ant programming was cool. And her thanking Killua for helping her return to herself! And telling him he's the person Gon needs the most!

I really enjoyed the King vs Netero. I was kinda rooting for the King tbh. It felt weird to see Netero just continue fighting the King when the King said he just wanted to talk.

Very weird when Youpi and Pouf were feeding themselves to Meruem

It sounds like Killua knows he cleans up Gon's messes for him and he'll keep doing it because he loves him but he's going to hold him accountable. It sounds like he knows things need to change--at least I hope he does.

Ooop there's the deadbeat dad Ging!

^These were the note I took while watching the arc. I was going to consolidate them and make them more cohesive after seeing everything play out, but I decided against it. It was kind of fun seeing what I thought of things as they were happening. I was wrong about certain things and my views changed. I like seeing that.

The biggest things that affected me this arc was Killua and Gon's relationship and Meruem's character development (and therefore, Komugi's involvement in that).

I was a bit wary of Killua in the beginning of this anime. But after seeing their relationship progress more (and especially after the You Are Light scene), I felt like he was 100% whipped for Gon. However, after the extermination battle, I don't feel like he's 100% whipped anymore. I think Killua realized he just does what Gon wants, and I hope that he can see how he is an individual. Frankly I don't want him to be 100% whipped. That means he isn't his own person. I was happy to see him making friends and helping others and not just doing what Gon was doing. So, I'm excited and anxious to see what happens in this next/final arc.

As for Gon, (I mean I assume he recovers because what's Hunter x Hunter without him?) I hope he grows a little more. I think his stubbornness is good in some ways, but horribly detrimental in others. I hope he can learn from this battle and see his errors. I hope he can also learn how to be more of an individual rather than always leaning on Killua for things. I think Gon and Killua have an amazing bond that is very special, but I think this arc made it clear they were codependent and need some time to figure each of themselves out so they can continue enjoying their friendship.

Ok so Meruem (and Komugi). I think I've said what I've wanted to say with my previous post. I'll likely be thinking about these characters and their stories for a while now. And I think that shows what sort of impact they made on me.

Finally, I want to say that while I was a bit resistant to this arc at first (I thought it was weird, boring, and slow to start), it ended up being really fucking good. I don't know if I can say it's my favorite because it was just really brutal to get through at certain points. But I think it was well done overall. I really ended up liking all the characters at the end and loved the direction of each of their stories.

I'm watching Hunter x Hunter for the first time and am almost done with season 1 and I really love it. Like Gon is such a ball of sunshine. He's really just like hey I'm gonna pass the Hunter test. I'm gonna see Killua. Even though I may not be able to do it now, I can. I will eventually. Small progess is still progress. And Kurapika and Leorio are like yep, exactly and we're here with you along the way. Idk it's just really beautiful.
