You know what.

You know those AU's where the Batfam finds or learns about either hidden or thought to be dead Al Ghul Danny! with a deaged/daughter Dani (Ellie) (I should know, I created a few of those storylines) but what if, now hear me out, what if instead of them finding Danny first its Talia.

Do I want Talia discovering her thought to be dead son to be alive? Yes. Do I want her to find him while investigating Amity Park when the League gets reports of 'Lazarus creatures/water'? Yes.

DO I WANT HER TO KNOCK ON THE FENTON'S DOOR, fully ready to pretend/honey talk her way into the house to uncover what the Fenton's know, ONLY TO MEET A LITTLE ELLIE?!

Ellie whose eyes and hair look like a copy of her Beloved but she can see bits and pieces of herself as well. Talia knows the child in front of her was not fully her's though but everything makes sense when she hears a voice, a voice she hasn't heard in ages but as a mother just knows, speak out.

"Ellie! I thought I said do not answer the door my Sterling."

"But Daddy, yous was busy fighting the hotdoggys!"

Talia's eyes widen when she finally catches sight of familiar black hair and blue eyes.

and she could only lightly whisper a old nickname she hasn't dared uttered in ages, a name she secretly gave her son due to his love of the stars "Astrophel..."

like the important thing you must keep in mind about ten when you see him do literally anything is that he's soooooooooo so so so bad at actually isolating himself from other people. so TERMINALLY bad at it. he thinks to himself "i don't need human connection because everything i do causes pain and destruction to those around me :(" but then he experiences a crumb of human connection and his heart starts to spill out of his chest

I am of the DPxDC belief/headcanon that any variation of Danny who grew up poor in Gotham during his formative years before moving to Amity Park would not be friends with Sam without friction at first. It makes things more interesting and imo allows for more exploration of different themes plus character growth for Sam that she doesn't really go through in canon.

(this doesn't only apply to a DPDC au where Danny grew up in Gotham poor, but it was the first thing that I thought of where this might happen considering my Childhood Friends au.)

Now Sam's a compassionate girl, it's one of her defining character traits, but so is her hypocrisy and judgy-ness. She's the Not Like Other Girls' girl. This is in part of the show's narrative framing that makes her out like this, unfortunately though its still showing how she is as a character since its consistent enough to be part of her character description. There are also times where the show's depiction of her activism makes it look like she's performative about it. All of this makes her dynamic with a Danny who grew up poor in Gotham very interesting.

Anyways, Sam is aware of her privilege to an extent, but still has her blindspots - glaring ones, in some cases. Her self-righteous attitude would not go over well with a crime alley kid Danny. He'd like her, at first, but then she'd do something to make him mad - personally I think her judging people for not being vegan would annoy him the most, or at least would be the breaking point for him, because it was only recently that his family started actually being able to consistently put food on the table at all, good food nonetheless. And being vegan is expensive.

Any other behavior he noticed from her he'd slowly stop tolerating - her judging conventionally attractive girls and automatically assuming they're vapid and shallow for being feminine. Her anti-capitalist beliefs start coming off as superficial at worst, and Danny would eventually figure out that Sam either came from a family that was well off, or that she wasn't aware if her family was experiencing financial struggle.

He would still be friends with Tucker, but since Tucker imo is still friends with Sam, they'd still run into each other often enough to butt heads. Sam's got a nasty habit of refusing to take responsibility when she's wrong, but when Danny is arguing with her, and counterpointing her with stuff she can't retort back at without compromising her own beliefs, then forces her to start reflecting on herself. Especially when Tucker eventually starts siding with Danny and agreeing with him.

Does sam genuinely care about her beliefs and philosophies? Survey says yes. However that doesn't mean she's not ignorant, and she definitely is at times throughout the show (like when she released the purpleback gorilla thinking it 'wanted out of its enclosure' despite the fact that it was endangered and in an urban area) and I think it'd be a real fascinating dynamic between Danny and Sam to explore.

This isn't Sam hate btw, nor am I trying to make her out like "the worst person ever" bc she's not, i wanna make that explicitly clear. Sam Manson has a lot of positive traits about her but she also has an equal amount of negative traits that I think should be explored, she is not immune to the character development.

Thinking about the protective way Clara tells Fleet not to go into DeVries' dangerous-looking training set-up, and about how when Septimus mentions Fleet's friend Fleet's immediate assumption is that he must mean Clara, and about "This is Miss Clara Entwhistle, my partner - in business, my business partner." / "I'm also his friend, but he doesn't like to say it.", and about how Fleet rarely smiles but he smiles to himself at Clara having a good idea (and Clara notices the change in his expression), and about how Clara is trying to work out Fleet's birthday through a process of elimination, and about how Fleet tries twice to shut down the conversation with Frances Byrne that's making Clara uncomfortable, and about how panicked and angry he sounds after realising she's been poisoned...

They’ve been packed into the back of Colt’s car, Colt driving, Sal up front, and him, Roddy and Bryan squeezed into the back. Bryan’s between them in the middle, obviously, because he’s the smallest, and the little arsehole is curled against him, head on his shoulder.

They’ve just stopped at a gas station, the others piling out of the car to take a piss and get snacks, but Nigel’s all good and doesn’t need it, and he hasn’t bothered to wake Bryan up to ask him if he wants anything, because he’s too busy realising that the hoodie Bryan’s got on in his.

It’s just a plain black hoodie, nothing important or even one that he really likes to wear, but he knows it’s his because there’s a hole on the shoulder, and he remembers how it happened, a particular bad day in a laundromat where it just happened to get snagged on the door of the washer, ripping the hole.

Bryan, the little shit, stole his hoodie. They’ve roomed together multiple times on this current tour, and Nigel can confess he’s a bit of a messy roommate, but Bryan’s so neat and precise. How did he end up with Nigel’s hoodie other than purposely taking it?

Nigel shoves his hand into the back of the hoodie to grab the label, just to check the size, because hey, maybe Bryan also has a black hoodie with a hole in it.

“Nigel?” Bryan stirs out of his sleep, stretching away from Nigel’s hand.

“Stop moving you little brat, are you wearing my hoodie?”

Bryan stops struggling.

“No?”

“Oh, so you routinely wear triple x hoodies?”

“It was all they had!”

“And where did the hole come from?”

“It doesn’t have a hole!”

Nigel sticks his finger into the hole and jabs it into the meat of Bryan’s shoulder, making him yelp.

“Just how many of my personal effects have you stolen? Do I have to report you to the police you little thief?”

“I haven’t stolen anything! It must have gotten mixed up.”

But Bryan’s got a blush spread across his face, and not for the first time does it make Nigel want to punch him in the face and kiss him stupid. Now that he knows that Bryan’s purposely taking his clothes and then trying to hide that he is, it doesn’t make Nigel’s feelings for the guy any less complicated.

“You can have it back when we get to the next hotel.” Bryan adds, just as the guys get back, Roddy shoving himself back into his seat and throwing a few bags of chips and some sodas at the two of them.

“Oh, you’re awake Bry, you need to piss?”

Bryan shakes his head, and Nigel can tell that he’s relieved the others are back. But he’s not saved, if Bryan thinks he’s going to get away with stealing Nigel’s clothes and not giving him a reason why, well then he’s sorely mistaken.

Bryan opens one of the sodas and takes a long drink from it. So Nigel takes the opportunity to lean down and whisper in Bryan’s ear,

“You can give me a lot of things at the hotel.”

Bryan chokes on his soda, and everyone laughs at him. Nigel feels very smug at the sputtering he does and the blush that spreads across his cheeks.

Serves him right for stealing his clothes.
