New Spy x Family chapter! Let's Gooooo!

So Damian & co (but mostly Damian) are studying when the above drops. I did google this & apparently 'Mitera' means 'Mother' in Greek, so this is likely their version of Ancient Greece. Pretty neat imo.

With Ostania's economy probably in shambles after the war, I wonder if this boom was partially because of the country's citizens hoping for a way to get back on their feet financially by selling some sweet ancient relics.

It's nice to know that they had twitter in 1960/1970's Ostania. Weak joke, I know.

Anyways, treasure hunting happens & while the boys are in proper attire, the 3 butlers are in suits in the middle of a freakin' forest. This would be absolutely miserable in real life. However, with this being Spy x Family, I automatically assume they're much too professional to allow even a single speck of dirt to sully their clothes & will be vaporized immediately.

Also, it looks like their hair colors are inversions of the kids? Instead of 1 brunette & 2 blonds, it's 2 brunettes & 1 blond. Also that Egeberg butler does look pretty fine.

It's cute to see them explore the wonder's nature has to offer. Also did they not bring enough water, so they had to resort to drinking from waterfalls? Props for getting it from fast running water rather than a stagnant pool though.

STRRRIKE! Maybe I'm just exaggerating, but I lowkey wonder if Jeeves can give Martha a run for her money when it comes to physical prowess. While not much in terms of what we've already seen throughout the series (especially compared to Yor) I imagine not many people would have been able to use an acorn like a bullet.

A quick google search says that 'Geschocran' when translated into English means 'Projectile Crane', so nothing too crazy there considering the pistil on that thing. I checked to see if maybe the name 'Witch's Crib' had any real-world equivalent although nothing came up aside from baby cribs & witch hazel. I wonder what the in-universe lore is on the 'Witch's Crib' name?

SPY X FAMILY CHAPTER 73 Once again ends with a freaking cliffhanger (way to go, Endo-sensei, now I won't be able to sleep peacefully for the rest of the year due to excitement.)

Now some notes :

So Billy is not actually a member of the Red Circus from the get go and only got recruited after his daughter got iced. For me it makes the whole narrative behind his daughter's death a bit sus. It is most likely that whatever info Billy has is just fed by RC and then try to do some damage control by telling him that he's marked by the SSS. It's not helping that we have a panel that says this:

Makes me think that to them, Billy is a means to an end - - a man angry enough to do whatever it takes to burn the state, damn the consequences - - and not a fellow comrade.

I guess Mr. Henderson's words last chapter got through him a bit and he's now recounting how he got here in the first place. Anya seems to have also read that flashback. Perhaps this will be the point of understanding between Anya and Billy. In the past stories (Bullet in Butt Date & the LN Novel Chapter where she and Yuri act out as police interrogators), Anya mentions the name of the offending party's loved ones to talk some sense to them. Now I'm not sure how this will play out since Billy may not be the one calling the shots here anymore.

It's wise for Yuri to call for backup and not to be a hero. While I'm not sure how much of Yor's strength does he actually have (but he's extremely durable) I can say that he's actually competent at his job.

Don't worry Yuri, you'll soon realize that you have also fallen for the Chihuahua girl's charms lol.

While it's enjoyable to see Yuri in action, his team's success opened a new can of worms.

Welp, it's a good reminder that Ostania is under an authoritarian control... I wonder though if it's actually a good move to place Yuri out of the main conflict where he'll see that his fellow SSS members have no qualms in using a SWAT team to a bus full of kids /bombs (but I guess it's still too early for such doubts lol)

I guess we are now reaching at the climax of this arc since RC is already backed into a corner and that SSS guy is not taking prisoners. I wonder how Starlight Anya will save the day?

4. what is the plot bunny you've been carrying around the longest? optional bonus question: do you ever wonder why you haven't written it yet and experience deep existential dread?

I have many. many. many ideas. and not just for ATLA. but I think these are my favorites:

for ATLA

a. book 2, Iroh and Zuko are in Ba Sing Se. I say "screw you" to canon a bit and extend their time there. during that time, Zuko and Jin start actually dating, they become friends with the Jet, Smellerbee, and Longshot. with that friendship, they slowly relax into being teens and having fun (in part because they're committing Blue and Green Spirit shenanigans together). Zuko kinda forgets he was Zuko and really starts to embrace Lee. and then, Jet sees a poster about Appa and drags Lee with them, he sees the Gaang, and Zuko come crashing back to reality. they retrieve Ty Lee and Mai from the Palace (by accident, cause they think Suki is there), and then it's a trek of a dozen teens across the Earth Kingdom to take down Ozai. oh, and also, Jin is a secret (but very bad) earthbender.

I've written about half of it. maybe I'll finish and post it one day. there's also a GREAT scene where Zuko (as Lee) goes to Jin's for dinner and to meet her parents and younger sister (that I added for funsies). it's so awkward and fun and I love it so much.

b. I got permission to write a story based on @gemgirl28's idea. I have yet to write it yet, but it is outlined. that delay just makes me feel bad, because I want to do the story justice.

Spy X Family

a. like many others, I have been sucked into the Spy X Family world. it's three years ahead of where the story is now, and it starts with Donovan Desmond dying in a plane crash. and then it's just sort of how the cold war grows from there, Loid has to fake his death, Yuri evacuates Yor and Anya, it's a whole thing. a whole, very messy, very chaotic...thing. :)

I've already started writing it. I'm maybe a chapter into it.

34. how do you name characters and places?

characters: baby name lists. so many baby name lists. the targeted ads I get make my mother-in-law VERY curious and happy.

places: I tend to come up with a connecting theme for a place. so like, for the Earth Kingdom: a lot of actual real-life Chinese towns/cities are named sort-of based on their location (Bei Jing: Northern Capital). so, in Eight Years Later, the few smaller EK towns I created are named after the location they're at. however, for the Fire Nation in EYL, because I kind of view the cultural side of the Fire Nation as a pan-Asian country made up of a whole collection of cultures, each island I've "named" is just a "firebender associated" word from different Southeast Asian languages. so like, in EYL, Araw Island is "Day" in Filipino/Tagalog (don't remember exactly which one, sorry!), Moesashi Island is "Embers" in Japanese, and so on.

(fun fact: Mosu actually has MANY meanings...such as "ember" and "humble"...he's kinda the only character in EYL, at least, that I didn't find from a baby name list and instead went the language route - but it is an actual name, also, I think...I'm pretty sure I found it somewhere...it's been years at this point, apologies)

35. tell us about a character who's very different than you who you love a whole lot.

Ty Lee. I am not that bubbly and positive. I wish I could be. I know she's hiding mountains of hurt, which honestly, aren't we all? but she's able to put on a very compelling facade to get through her day, and I'm not sure if that's admirable or even more depressing. but I like to think that post-canon Ty Lee is very happy and doesn't have to fake it.

64. what is your favorite title for a fic you've read?

people can be real clever with their titles, and I wish I had that skill. I really like goofy, silly titles. little jokes and what not. I don't have any immediately in mind, I tend to forget details like that, but scrolling through my Ao3 history, I found this one and it made me chuckle:

I blame this idea on the fact that I’ve been watching Spy X Family, Millionaire Detective and Saiki K. Not ever gonna write it, but damn, it would be such an awesome crossover idea!!

Concept Idea: Sleight of Hand

The year was 2020. Terrible tensions arise between the West and the East, as many countries competed in an arms race that would be more catastrophic than all others before it. It was understandable that if the arms race ever ended, World War III would begin. And this must never ever happen. 

At the forefront of stopping the impending war, the Westalian Intelligence Service’s Eastern Focused Division, or better known as WISE, sends out their most trusted operative, Twilight, to uncover the secret plans of Dr Saiki Kusuke, who was rumoured to have built a weapon of mass destruction that could level the entire world. To maintain world peace and ensure the success of Operation Strix, Twilight must become Dr Loid Forger, and infiltrate the filthy rich, upper echelons of Ostania, who were powering Dr Saiki Kusuke’s research. 

Meanwhile, in Nihon, Detective Kambe Daisuke of the Metropolitan Police and scion of the billionaire Kambe family, was a few steps ahead of WISE. For three years, Daisuke had been taking responsibility for introducing the world to his late parents’ research, Adollium; a renewable source of energy that could either save the world…or destroy it. And Daisuke has reasons to believe that Dr Saiki Kusuke’s doomsday weapon was engineered from Adollium. 

In the midst of chaos and spy networks, Saiki Kusuo, a psychic and the most powerful being in the known universe (aside from God itself), was nowhere to be found. It has been three years since the meteor incident and Saiki’s confession (yes all of them knew now). While the others had given up, thinking he may be dead, Teruhashi Kokomi, was determined to find Saiki Kusuo, at all costs. After all, as the one most beloved by God, there was no way she could ever die in a world war! Not until she has made Saiki say “offu”!! 

As the arms race reaches disturbingly destructive heights, and Dr Saiki Kusuke’s inventions reaches completion, would these unlikely heroes — a spy with no name, a millionaire detective and the one most beloved by God, be able to prevail and save the world from a devastating war?

Notes:

Setting: would take place before SpyxFamily, after the conclusion of Millionaire Detective as Kambe finding out about his grandma’s crimes and his parents research on Adollium is rather integral to the plot, and after the conclusion of Saiki K, where Saiki regains his abilities and puts a stop to the impending meteor

Kusuke being the centerpoint was based on the episode/manga chapter where Saiki had travelled to the present after messing up his parent’s first meeting, and discovers the world devastated by WWIII. Kusuke also said that he didn’t cause the war and that “I just invented something that they all wanted��, which is what this story is more or less about

Ships that I envisioned for the story: SaiTeru (of course), Daisuke x Suzue (not relatives, like in the anime), Loid/Twilight x Yor (of course lols). But I only imagined SaiTeru being the most important to the plot.

Also a meeting of the minds between Anya and Saiki! That’d be so cute.

Loid still would need to get Anya and Yor since he still needs to get Anya into that rich school to assassinate Desmond —it’s just that Desmond now has ties to Kusuke.

I imagine Teruhashi needs to find Saiki, who is a slumbering god that has been whisked away to an unknown location for the past three years. I do think that, even if Saiki was awakened, it would not be so simple as reversing reality and stopping Kusuke in the past.
