CAT WASN'T SURE SHE HAD EVER heard the word 'allegedly' spoken so many times. if she had even heard it prior at all. it wasn't exactly the every day term, and hollow expression scrunched briefly as there even came the need to recollect what it even meant. context clues did WONDERS, so there was no need to ask, but a heartbeat or two had still been needed to piece all the comments together. she must have seemed to be registering the story spun for her, but really the brunette was just unscrambling her knowledge. allegedly... headless horseman... equestrian... it wasn't that the words and terms were e l u s i v e so much as unusual. binding everything together took her own detective work... albeit most likely much simpler than anything maps was intending.
when it all finally made sense, that was when it occurred to her that the whole thing didn't actually make any sense at all. despite that fact, street rat felt no need to argue or deny... confusion, uncertainty, yes, such emotions twisted her thoughts, but cat didn't really feel much in the way of challenging. instead, brows were knitted together, scrunching wrinkles on her forehead. "do you actually believe it?" said with g e n u i n e tone, looking over with sparking depths of green. if it was real... sounded cool. "or have y'found some other reasoning for, erm. the sightings, i suppose."
A lot of what the Detective Club gets up to seems like nonsense to many. Malarkey, even. But it's serious to Maps, and some of the things the club comes across can be a little... out there, to be so charitable. Therefore, the vow to secrecy is paramount. And most importantly, it keeps adults from doing the things they're technically supposed to do, like call the proper authorities. No, it was much easier this way. That, and the details of these investigations were often confidential and tended to involve a battier crowd than most would be comfortable with. It's always best to play with the cards close to the chest.
"So, allegedly," she starts, "really weird things have been happening at my school. And allegedly, a bunch of my classmates swear that they've been seeing a headless horseman around campus after midnight, which is weird because we don't have an equestrian club. Somehow." Maps clears her throat. "So allegedly, I'm doing my research to figure out what we're dealing with here. Allegedly." She hopes that got the point across. "And it's more like I can't read the same book for fun and for school at the same time. I think it's a psychology thing."
