I feel like the events of the original series should have been shown to have a bigger impact in HOO than they were. Like Annabeth shouldve been shown to be extremely shaken at the sight of Percy, Jason, and Leo being possessed with glowing gold eyes. Leo couldve said s/t abt how Nemesis told him about her son who traded an eye, and Percy could have mentioned Ethan Nakamura. Percy shoulve had some reaction to Thalia having a brother she never told him about, but we never even see him finding out.

if you ask me, rick didn't "go downhill" in a smooth, gentle slope after the original pjo series. no, no, he jumped of a cliff, landed 200 metres below, and then rolled downwards as time progressed and the new series came out

the first series have mistakes here and there, consistency has never been rick or his editors' forte, but the way everything is forgotten in HoO is ridiculous. don't get me wrong, we do get a few things from the past, a mention of luke here, a comment about the war there, piper antagonising drew bc she was talking shit about silena.. there are some things to tie the series together

but then there's character development, and that was disastrous. percy became a dumbass, he became fanon 2014 percy. annabeth had her little girl-bossification quest as if she'd never had a quest before??? rick, BotL's quest was hers!! they meet hercules and percy doesn't even mention zoë??????

your points are good, annabeth should've freaked the fuck out when percy was possessed in a way that made it look similar to what happened to luke, but so should've percy! he's sort of chill? he's a very empathic character, he would've compared the situation to his old enemy's immediately. and when they're all discussing whether to rescue nico or not, and jason says "nico knew all along and never said anything", percy should've said "like your sister who had a whole ass brother and never said shit, imagine that" rather than kept quiet and think, "yeah I've a complicated history with him"

I loved HoO bc it brings back a lot of happy nostalgia, and it led me to tumblr and to meet a lot of nice people, but as a sequel to the original series, it wasn't good

Rick Riordan has no scale for what it means to give characters positions of power or influence

I have seen a trend recently while thinking about the positions of power in PJO and HOO and who occupy them. A post that I can't find again also has breached this topic on a much smaller scale, so credit to them. (I'll try to find them and tag them.)

What I mean by positions of power and/or influence is this: positions from where a demigod has the ability to control organisations (i.e. the Hunters of Artemis and Camp Jupiter) or influence how and why things are done in a certain way (i.e. Annabeth's redesigning of Olympus and Jason's designing some of the other gods' cabins).

The first example is THALIA and how, upon becoming a hunter for Artemis, she is instantly catapulted to the top of the chain. Artemis bestows upon her the role of Lieutenant of Artemis. She is Artemis's second in command if the goddess herself isn't present.

But what does Thalia know of the inner workings of the Hunt? Next to nothing, because until a few days before, she hated them and what they stood for. She gets over her hate, which is part of her development, but it doesn't make her any less informed. One can't speculate that at some point she and Zoë have talked about the Hunt, because we have no hint of that happening in the books. One can headcanon that they'd had such a conversation, but we are speaking about canon. So she is blind. That would be fine, because she is a newbie, and has time to learn.

But no. Riordan gives her the most important place a hunter can occupy in the hierarchy. Why? The way I see it is Riordan decided that now that Thalia's completed her arc, she needs a physical reward. But going by book logic, I would also assume that Artemis was displaying some major nepotism. Because look, that is her sister, and she is in a meeting with daddy and she'd already crossed a line when interacting with her father. (I mean that she wants to reward the heroes while Zeus, most probably, just sees what they did as their duty and not something to be rewarded.) So Artemis boosts her sister up in the hierarchy so she wouldn't slight Zeus again.

Also, we've been ignoring the fact that there are far more experienced and reliable huntresses in the Hunt. Some of them have been with Artemis for many, many years bordering on millennia.

Next up is ANNABETH, about who I've already vented my frustrations, but let me say it again: Annabeth, while inspired by architecture and wanting to be an architect, is not trained and has no experience with it besides a few books and what I can assume is trying her hand at drawing potential projects. She isn't fit to redesign Olympus and certainly not able to think about all the facets of what it would entail, because she doesn't have the practical knowledge and the studies.

Yet Riordan writes it so that the gods offer her the opportunity to redesign their city state (is Olympus considered a city state??? Because it's what I've been thinking of it as). Why so? Because she has survived the war? (not like he was going to kill her, and I didn't think he would do it at any point in TLO.) And therefore she should get what she wanted besides all the PTSD and other disorders that most survivors get?

Because this is what I see.

We already know that the structure within Camp Jupiter is hinging on the child soldiers they train. The Senate is made out of centurions and ghosts and older citizens of New Rome, and we weren't shown that there had ever been adult Praetors. This is what Riordan intended, because this is what he wrote.

But it begs the question, why have REYNA and JASON specifically done to be awarded the position of Praetor that early in their lives? We are told that they went on at least a quest together, so they must have been pretty close before being made partners, and they seem to have worked well together.

We know that Reyna is a highly capable leader and managed to lead Camp Jupiter on her own for roughly 6 months. Jason was raised as a leader, so it is natural to assume that he knew how things worked. But that doesn't show why they were specifically chosen, especially after such a big conflict.

Just because Jason defeated a Titan single-handedly, it doesn't mean that there weren't any more capable hands for the duty to fall on. Also, has Reyna's POV ever revealed why she was chosen? Because I can't remember.

What I mean to say is that there were other, adult, people for the reasonability to fall back on. Because there had been said to be adults in the Senate. But Riordan, like before, has decided that the duty should fall on hormonal teenagers that have dumb ideas (not referring to Jason and Reyna, but more like stereotyping) instead of the adults. The excuse that demigods older than late teens and early twenties doesn't exist in New Rome. And don't tell me that not one of those people would take the duty, because there is shown to be influence and political power associated with being Praetor.

Alongside this, lets go to PERCY. Riordan decided that the Romans would raise Percy as Praetor because they'd seen him fight and the fact that he kind of saved their asses. Cool, I could understand this reasoning if the Romans had more time to get to know him. Because Percy's great! but he still is a child of Neptune, who they don't trust, and they don't trust him, because he was there for only a few hours a few days ago.

There is no basis on which to raise him straight from probation to praetorian-ship.

But Percy saved them! So Riordan decided, against all common sense, that he should get a position of power somewhere he knows next to nothing about, because of plot reasons and drama. Why couldn't Percy have just been seen as a great help and on that the Romans would build their trust upon him? To start to value his opinion?

But the plot of HOO moves so fast is was no room to take a breath and let things unfold naturally. So Riordan gives political and military powers to characters willy-nilly because it will help the story along.

Again to JASON, the cabin design things is the same as Annabeth's, so there is nothing to really say again. Other then the fact that they parallel each other in this way, and not in the good way when talking about writing.

Riordan has no scale of what it means when he gives his characters power and authority where they hadn't achieved it. He gives them upgrades in authority as a way to pay them for their good behaviour and character development, or simply because he hadn't thought all the way through what their positions would entail, and their ramifications.

I am currently at the end of chapter 3 of The Titan's Curse and oh man, do I have some thoughts. So first things first. I do not like Artemis. Like, at all. She's currently inhabiting spot 2 on my "I hope Luke wins because of you guys" RIGHT after Ares himself. I REALLY don't like the whole "anti-boy" thing she and her Hunters have going on. Like, okay- I get it to some degree. Chasity and maidenhood is like- her whole thing. But honestly, at this point, it feels almost fanatic. I'm a girl myself, and it makes me genuinely uncomfortable how they act and what they say. It also weirds me out how.... pushy they are to Bianca ? Especially how they seem to disregard Nico in all of this. It was stated that Bianca and Nico are their only remaining relatives. Percy brings up a very valid point in the fact that Nico cannot become a Hunter. Bianca would leave her only brother behind, her brother whose only family she is. And in response Artemis and Zoe just- blow that whole concern off ???????? Saying that they would become Bianca's new family. It could have worked better had this decision only attempted Bianca- BUT IT DOESN'T. What about Nico ? Who would become Nico's new family !? Well APPARENTLY Artemis and her Hunters COULDN'T CARE LESS because he was born with the wrong gender. Sorry kiddo though luck ig 🤷‍♀️ And then that nasty comment when they talk about Nico going to camp with "that's all boys are good for" The fuck Artemis????? I know DAMN WELL ur ass didn't just insult the ONE relatively safe place for demigods where those kids are trained up to do the shit YOU AND YOUR FAMILY are too lazy to do !? Like I have my problems with Camp, not gonna lie. I still think it's still unsafe (even if it's better compared to- well, everywhere else) and their teaching methods are a bit questionable (how has no one thought of organizing some damn therapy for these kids !?) BUT ALSO !?!?!?!? Bianca who JUST said she was still thinking about joining the hunters only to then immediately make up her mind and join ? Naw I'm calling foul play. At this point I'm not putting ANYTHING past ANY god. I would fully trust Artemis to manipulate Bianca's mind or something. I swear to god with every chapter I read I become more and more of a Luke apologist. He went off the deep end for a good freaking reason and he has every right to personally decapitate every god to ever walk the earth. But also, ANNABETH BABY ARE YOU OKAY !? ARE YOU GOOD GIRL ??? WHERE'D YOU GO !? God I am PRAYING it ain't Tartarus or anything- atleast Artemis said she'd search for her so I suppose Mrs. "Human rights for men ? Who needs that !" isn't TOTALLY useless beyond ending my nerves. Poor Nico by the way, he seems like such a nice kid ! A total nerd and drok which honestly ? Stan. As someone who's a nerd myself (although I'm more in the Anime and history department (weird combo ik)) I can stan him. But also MY POOR BABY. That child basically lost his sister to something I'm not yet convinced isn't some weird cult RIGHT AFTER being attacked by a literal MONSTER.

That must hurt. As for Thalia.... yeah not sure about her. She seems to have some bad blood with the hunters of Artemis and that Zoë girl which makes her immediately more likable to me. But also I was sort of thrown into a loop with how suddenly the book started into the story, I would have liked a bit of a slower start with more build-up to get to know her better.

She seems to have a pretty confrontational personality , which is the main thing that makes me a bit unsure about her. But other than that she sems pretty cool so far ! Hope to see more. One thing however made me worry a bit.... that mist thing. Where Thalia was able to manipulate the mist, and upon Percy's questioning asking if "Chiron didn't show you that yet". How it's treated to be nothing special....... listen if I wasn't a bit iffy about the whole system of the Camp I am now. Why didn't Chiron show Percy that ? It doesn't look to be some special ability reserved for children of Zeus. Infact, why didn't Chiron show that EVERY demigod !? I am hoping to god that an explanation for that's gonna come up later to explain this. Otherwise I'll just have to assume that Chiron is refusing to teach those kids a valuable and also kinda important skill just because.

(Also on an off note, y'all remember that one "Who's Jason Theory" I had a while back where I concluded he's either from Roman North Korea or a Rome fanboy ? Yeah I got it confirmed from a friend a while back that he's from Roman North Korea. Holy fuck, so apperantly The Democratic Demigod's Republic of Rome exists canonically. And apparently they are the East Germany to Camp Halfblood's West Germany. Yikes. Don't know much more tho than it existing and apperantly being well, Roman North Korea. So please no spoilers there ^^)

We fight but tears still win

I slip past Florence, she gave me a worried look but said nothing when she noticed my eyes, red from crying. This couldn't be happening, Nico hadn't called today, it was a dream, it had to be. I've lost people before, I know my friends will die, I've seen them die but he seemed so... powerful, he couldn't just be... gone. I just need to tell Annabeth, surely she can come up with an answer, some sick twisted game from the gods that's what this was, right? I spot her sitting in silence with Hana, Dave was probably busy, they were both sketching. My breath shakes, I have to tell her, she deserves to know, tears run down my cheeks but I wipe them away, I need to be strong enough to tell her but more so strong enough to tell her it's going to be okay. I walk up to them, every thought felt hollow and broken, I was sure Gaia would be the end. Two wars, Luke, Selina, Bianca, Zoë, Ethan, Micheal, Lee, Beckendorf, now Jason, how many more people would I lose? Who was next? Grover? Annabeth? No, I wouldn't let them do this anymore. I can't lose them; I can't lose her. Luke was a person fighting for the greater good, he'd sacrifice all he loved for a better future. I'm not like that, I would sacrifice all good, all hope of the world being a better place, anything for Annabeth. You could say he was a better person than me, he was a better person than me. He was right, the gods don't deserve it, if I could take them down I would but what would the cost be? I lost Jason; in a war against the gods I'd lose every other person I cared for. Maybe it's selfish, still I won't let them get hurt anymore, then again I've already failed. I wish I wasn't immune to drowning myself; I let out a shaky sigh and started to talk.

"Hey Annie, can I talk to you about something?"

"Oh Percy, sure wha-" Before she could finish Hana interrupted her, I knew she didn't like me but I wasn't sure if I could resist not fighting back, not now.

"-I AM SO DONE WITH YOUR BULLSHIT, DO YOU EVEN CARE ABOUT ANNABETH OR ARE YOU JUST USING HER TO GET GOOD GRADES? DO YOUR OWN WORK FOR ONCE; Annabeth, you deserve better than this son of a bitch." What the hell did she just say? I know I should toughen up and deal with it but I just lost one of my best friends and I don't think I can take her shit right now.

"You don't know what I've gone through with her, I would and have killed for her, and don't you fucking dare interrupt my girlfriend again."

"Hana what the fuck was that? Don't speak to him like that, don't talk about him like that. Do you understand me?" She looked terrifying and I've seen her kill before, though that look was pretty close killing. "He's gone through more than you could imagine and believe me when I say he's not dating me for the grades." A sane person would have backed down by now but clearly Hana wasn't very sane; the librarian looked like she wanted to stab all three of us but resisted to get the drama.

"Then what the fuck is he here for this time? Probably asking you to do another one of his assignments."

"I never do his assignments, I don't know where you got that idea from. He literally just said he wanted to talk to me so if you'll excuse me I need to go and talk to my boyfriend."

"He can say it here, let us see what's so important that he couldn't wait and call you tonight."

"Percy you don't have to if it's personal." I needed to say it, I didn't exactly want her around but if that's what it took for Hana to shut up I'll do it. I take a deep breath, forcing back the tears.

"N-Nico called today..." I looked at her, she had realised someone had died. "... Jason's dead." Tears started to pour down her face, I pull her up into a hug and kiss her forehead. Hana looks shocked, she just watched, I almost wished she'd say something.

"N-no. No. He can't be. What happened? Percy what happened?" Annabeth spoke in broken sobs but I didn't have many answers, I just pull her closer.

"I don't know, I just got a message from Nico that he's gone. I know it's a lot, I still haven't really processed it either but just breathe. Four in, four hold, four out, four nothing." I hold onto both her hands as I talk,"Do it with me okay? In for four, hold for four, out for four, nothing for four. A few more times, I've got you, you're going to be okay."

"H-He reminded me- of.. Luke, it's like losing him all over again."

"I know it's hard baby, it's a lot, but you're gonna get through it, I know you are."

"Does Thalia know?" I hadn't even thought of Thalia, I can't imagine how it would feel. She thought he was dead for years, got him back only for him to actually die.

"Don't worry about anyone else right now, Thalia's gonna be okay, focus on yourself for now."

"Is he really gone? Maybe it's what happened to Leo? He can't just be gone, he- he had so much left to do- he was barely sixteen."

"Shhh, I know, you've lost a lot of people, we both have. We can't bring him back."

"We bought Leo back, there has to be something, maybe-" She couldn't finish, tears streamed down her face and I hugged her even tighter. I could barely keep myself together but I needed to be stronger for her, she needs someone to tell her it's going to be okay.

"I'm sorry baby." I kiss her on the forehead again, part of me wishes I'd waited to tell her but Nico was coming over to talk later and I felt like it was better that she knew.

"How was Nico holding up?" She choked, Jason was the first person that had really made him feel accepted, the gods were cruel taking him away.

"He seem better than after Bianca, I hope Will's helping. He looked almost hollow when he called though, like he'd shut down his emotions; he's coming over tonight."

"What if he tries to do what he did for Bianca?"

"He won't, he knows its dangerous, he's smarter than that."

"I'm worried about him more than anyone."

"He's strong, he's going to be okay."

"He tries to be, Percy swear you won't tell him I told you this, on the Styx."

"I swear on the river of Styx I won't tell Nico what you are about to tell me." What had happened? I hated that Nico didn't feel like he could ever talk to me, it was my own fault but still I wish he'd tell me, I was almost constantly worried about him, after everything he felt like my brother. Just like Jason; I held back the tears for a little longer but my mind screamed.

"After the two wars, I saw cuts on his arms. I tried to talk to him but all he said was that it's none of my business, a few weeks later when I kept asking if he was holding up alright he opened up. Started after he lost his sister, he was still hurting himself when we left. He said Will was trying to help but after Jason? He was the first person that accepted him, I doubt he's holding up very well." I wanted to be shocked, I wished that I couldn't imagine Nico doing that but after all he'd been through I wasn't. I was worried, more than ever, but I just felt empathy.

"He shouldn't have gone through that much, he was ten when it all started."

"You were twelve."

"You were seven."

"And Jason was three. Fucking three years old when he was taken away from everyone and everything he knew and loved and now he's dead and it's their fault. We could get revenge, we know it's their fault."

"No, listen to me Annie, if we fight them more people are going to get hurt. They're too strong, they'd kill us all."

"I hate this, I feel so useless."

"Annabeth Chase, you have saved my neck more times that I can count, your the reason the camps are at peace, you are the smartest person I know and you are anything except useless."

has seen many of their friends die and puts up a cheerful façade to not make her remaining comrades worry about her.

likes skittles and gummy worms — sweet stuff in general cheers them up and makes them super happy.

Zoë didn't say anything for a moment, looking down at the empty ring finger of her left hand. She inhaled slowly, not entirely sure what to say to that. Once upon a time, she would've been right where Zain was at, ready to go all in with their relationship. But the time apart and the thrill she'd felt chasing this story . . . it wasn't like anything she'd ever felt before. She wanted to keep chasing it. Would he let her?

“We've been apart for a while now. I think . . . we should take things one day at a time. If you can be patient with me a bit longer, maybe we can salvage this. he didn't know where they stood and that was the most maddening part of him being here. in limbo both in life and love had been taking its toll on him. if after all of this zoë said she didn't want to be in a relationship, he'd respect it but he needed her in his life. she was someone that was far too important for him to lose.

"you think i don't want this?" he asked "i've been looking for you since the day you didn't come home. for better, for worse. where's your head at with it?"

"only some of them. some of these constellations are made from some real fucking assholes." she says with a lopsided smile, finding both amusement and a bit of heartache in the question. she was sure zoë would have laughed at her, calling her a friend and thinking back on all of their arguments so fondly, but it's amazing what a noble death can do in terms of building respect.

"see that one? i'd fight that one. his whole thing is that he's up there bragging, for something he took all the credit for when he would have been nothing without a strong girl behind him." she points at a cluster of stars, a man stomping on a serpent, her lips pursing for a second. it only seems right to shit on heracles with the subject at hand, and it's a lot easier to find the words for that than it is to say what she really wants to get to. "those stars suck ass."

it seems wrong to her to talk about the stars without talking about zoë, when she the two are so intertwined in her mind. jason understands loss, understands how you can admire someone and still butt heads with them, understands the way thalia takes the people she cares about and tucks them away deep in her heart, and carries them with her everywhere she goes. he's just the person she'd want to talk about it to, but still, she falters. she's never been good with words, and where does she even start?

"you've heard about what we were doing when mount othrys was rising again, right? when annabeth and percy got their unfairly cool matching hair?" it's easier to think about that than how tired annabeth had looked, glancing over at jason for a second before she goes on. "they get a lot of credit for that whole mess, and they deserve it, and artemis too. but that was where zoë died. where she sacrificed herself. she had to deal with her family after like, a thousand years or something, and it's still one of the bravest things i've ever fucking seen."

she knows she doesn't have to give jason all of the details for him to understand why she would have so much respect for something like that. parents could be one of the scariest things in the world, and she had stood up to her father and stayed loyal to the family she had found. of course thalia admired it.

"that one's her. the one with the bow." she uses one hand to trace the pattern, which matches the tattooed dots on her forearm perfectly. she suddenly feels a little choked up, which she's also pretty sure zoë would find amusing. thalia had just really cared about that stupid old lady, and their quest was something that would have bonded them for life if they'd both made it through. she wonders what they've missed out on doing together sometimes, all of the petty, ridiculous fights they're not going to get to have. "i want people to remember her too. she was really, really cool. but don't let her know i said that, alright?"

BASICS

2. What does their name mean? Why were they named that?

the incredibly deep and thoughtful meaning behind Deputy Gigi's name is that she is the deputy and Gigi is my nickname and she is named that way because she is my fun little self-insert lady with a fun little hat. 😎

On a more serious note: I have thought a lot about her name by now and have come to the conclusion that I find it highly amusing if she were to just go by her first name (which is possibly a nickname, I haven't decided yet) and title and nobody really knew that much about her full name because it does not really matter in the end anyway. She'll introduce herself as the Junior Deputy or Deputy Gigi and people are all confused and will be like..? "Is Gigi your surname? Is this a nickname? Your nametag says Rook." in absolute confusion. She'd just shrug and leave them in the dark.

although I have considered making Rook her last name but I am somewhat hesitant about that for some reason I do not know

according to some mediocre ecosia research (use ecosia btw! it's great!) Gigi can be the diminutive of Virginia, which can mean "virginal" or "virgin woman", something I find equally amusing considering how much of a thot my character and I are, but also "pure" which I find kinda endearing. under all of this wrath and energy and grief and confusion and stress, there are pure intentions and those are what motivates her. it is a stretch but I like the connection nonetheless.

3. Do they have any nicknames?

Yes! Sharky calls her Shorty, Hurk has adopted the practice. (I love them.) Stacy, she likes to call him Stace, used to call her Stinky but not as much anymore after he is freed from Jacob's capture. Addie sometimes uses sweet pea, sweetcorn, or sweet greens for her. Everybody respects that and nobody dares to make fun of it. Also because they are scared of the ass whooping they would get from both.

APPEARANCE

2 . Do they have a face claim?

Hm kinda but also kinda not...? I based her design on my face for obvious self-insert reasons but also because I cannot draw without tracing photos to save my life.

If I had to pick a face-claim with a gun to my head I'd probably say Gal Gadot, but also because I am a HUGE wonder woman fan. Maybe throw in some Priyanka Chopra - especially during her Quantico days - and Zoë Kravitz in there too.

3. What’s their style like? Clothes, hair, makeup?

ooooh fun fun fun! I love talking about style and this specifically!

At first, Gigi was really attached to her uniform. To a point where it took a good bit of persuasion from Dutch until she finally agreed to at least take it off to let it dry. (She then also gave it a rinse because lake water stinks and she eventually came to the realization that she cannot be a respectable deputy if she smells like days-old fish pee.)

But during the first few weeks after the helicopter crash, she will absolutely not take that damn uniform off. Not even if it gets really hot under the shirt. It is so ingrained in her that she is responsible for protecting the citizens of Hope County, especially now that the situation has escalated. She. Cannot. Possibly. Fail. Them. It's not only her job but her duty and the uniform that represents this role as Junior Deputy is the only thing that she can cling to for at least a brief sense of security and pre-reaping normalcy.

Then, after having witnessed one too many deaths, presumably on the resistance side - that she of course secretly blames herself for - something in her snaps and she ditches the uniform because at this point it does not mean anything anymore anyways. So from then on, she sports her skinny jeans and the trouble maker crop top. John swears it's a deliberate decision to taunt them because her new clothes show off the scars he gave her all too well and OH MY GOD IT'S NAKED SKIN! LITTLE JOHNNY JUST HAS TO STARE!

She also ditches her old boots eventually for a pair of trainers which she takes from an abandoned home. It's something she hates doing but her boots are basically falling apart by then and decent shoes in her size are hard to come by when nobody gets in or out of the county. She makes a mental note to get whoever they previously belonged to a new pair if they are both still alive when the cult is finally defeated though.

And of course, not to forget, her cowboy hat! It was something Dutch allowed her to take from his bunker. It belonged to a family member once but they have stopped visiting him quite a while ago and he figures she can keep it. Also a little ref to Sheriff Whitehorse who she respects a lot and who is someone my dep looks up to.

PERSONALITY

okay, okay, okay. I'm getting a little ranty again so I'll try to keep it short but my stance on this is that the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is complete and utter bullshit. give it a google if you're interested, I'm too tired of this to explain.

3. What are their hobbies and interests? Do they have any particular “favorites” (food, books, and so on)?

The easiest way to Gigi's heart is food. Food and horses. She has been riding horses as long as she can walk and she absolutely loves spending time with those animals. And she loves to cook and eat. She loves taking care of people by cooking for them and getting cared for in the same way. If you get her takeout after she had a long day of work she'll basically be down to get married on the spot (John, take note! You should have brought Bang Bang Broccoli with Tofu to the church instead of those dead ravens).

During the reaping, she would love nothing more than to catch a break with a book. She prefers non-fiction but at the time she would take basically anything to just take her mind off the whole mess for a while.

BACKGROUND

Things with her parents are tense but not completely terrible. They don't talk often. She has a bunch of cousins she loves but doesn't get to see as often as she'd like. At least that means nobody is worried about her when she does not text or call for a while... She hates when people worry about her.

3. What factions or organizations are they a part of? What ranks and titles do they hold?

Hope County Sheriff's Department – current – Junior Deputy

Girl Scouts of the USA – age 10 – Junior yes, she used to be a girl scout but unfortunately only briefly

RELATIONSHIPS

2. What’s their friend group like? What role do they play in it?

Deputy Gigi is absolutely chaotic good. A very loud, very fun, and caring mom-friend. Okay, maybe not exactly mum but fun auntie-friend? She always wants to take care of everybody and can make friends wherever she goes but she can also quickly get too much for people when she's having a good time and really excited about life.

That, fortunately, attracts a bunch of queerdos though! But the job has taken a toll on her social life and does not get to see and talk to her old friends as much as she would like anymore...

3. What’s their love life like? Do they have any kids?

Active describes it the best. My deputy is definitely a people-person. She also values her alone-time but she is naturally outgoing flirty and sexual (when she is not on the job) so she does date and sleep around. That stops for a while with the reaping but once she is back to her old self, virtually no cheeks in hope county will escape the clapping!

FUN FACTS

2. Do they play any instruments? Sports?

She plays guitar. Not super well but it's enough to accompany her singing and that she does well! Same for playing the piano. Generally, she is musically inclined she just lacks any formal education, and now the time to practice.

Dep Gigi does not play sports apart from horse riding but she starts to learn bat tricks when it becomes her trusty companion.

3. What are some items they always carry?

A night she'd never forget

When prom doesn't go as planned, maybe someone can turn the night into a better one.

Zoë had been perfectly happy. The night had been picture perfect up until now. Her boyfriend, Tyler, had taken her to prom. They'd danced the hours away, swirling around the dance floor until their feet hurt. They'd laughed at the jokes they told eachother, they watched as the prom King and Queen were picked, and then they danced some more. It had been perfect. Zoë didn't value the whole prom thing that much, but she must admit- it was like being Cinderella for one night.

When the prom was over it was already past twelve.

"Shall we grab a bite somewhere?" Tyler looked at her. He was carrying her shoes, her walking with bare feet.

"Sure. Are we going to the boardwalk?"

Tyler nodded. He walked her to his car, and drove to the walk. On the way there they decided that they'd eat some Chinese, and then probably go on some more rides, making the most of the night while they still could.

"Could you order some veggie noodles for me?" Zoë asked Tyler, as she got up to go to the toilet.

"Sure."

Zoë smiled, and walked away. When she was done, she stared at here ace in the mirror. Her make up hadn't run - eventhough she had been sweating due to all the dancing and the heat of the gym- and her hair was still neatly done in the updo she had tried on for the night. She smiled. Long live hairspray and waterproof make up. She looked one more time, before exciting the restroom. She went back to the table, when she saw another girl sitting there.

"Hey Tyler, who's this?"

"This is eh-" the boy turned bright red.

"I'm his girlfriend. And who might you be?" The girl snapped, staring at Zoë.

"His girlfriend?! You're cheating on me? I hate you, Tyler. I fucking hate you!"

"Zoë, it's not like that! She's -" he became quiet. The girl sitting across from him was in fact his girlfriend. He groaned.

Zoë ran out, tears burning in her eyes. She ran off, as far as she could. Her feet were hurting, her side was hurting from all the running, and her throat burned. She stumbled over a loose plank, and fell to the ground. She was too tired to move and get up. She let out a quiet gasp as she couldn't hold back her tears, who were falling freely now.

The boardwalk was about to close, the four vampires returning to their bikes. Everyone in Santa Carla knew to stay away from them. They knew that the bikes were the boys most prized possessions, and if anything were to happen to them that they'd be done for.

That's why it came to a surprise for them when they found a young girl, around seventeen, crying next to their bikes.

"Hey, are you alright?" Dwayne asked, as he sat down next to her. The others had wanted to leave, already getting their bikes, but Dwayne felt a sense of responsibility for the girl. For whatever reason he didn't want to see her hurt.

"I don't know," the girl mumbled quietly, looking up. She seemed startled. "Y-you're- you're one of the lost Boys..."

Dwayne couldn't help but chuckle. "Yeah. I am."

"Did- did I -"

"You didn't do anything wrong. I saw you crying and got worried."

"Oh," she was quiet for a moment, trying to dry her tears. "I'm Zoë."

"Dwayne. What happened?"

Zoë began to talk, about how she and Tyler had been together for a long time, about prom and about the way she found out about him cheating.

"Shit," Dwayne sighed as Zoë concluded her story.

"I hate him."

"I don't blame you." Dwayne stood up, reaching his hand out to Zoë. "Care to join me for a walk?"

Hesitantly she grabbed his hand, nodding. "Okay, but not to long. I want to be home before five."

"Don't worry, I'll drive you home if you want."

Zoë smiled thankfully.

She followed him down to the beach, the two of them walking close to the water. The moon gave the water a silver glow.

"It's quite pretty, isn't it?" Zoë asked, staring out over the sea.

"It is," Dwayne smiled, looking down at the girl. "It's not the only thing that is though."

She smiled shyly, hiding her face behind her hand. The two of them had been talking for what felt like hours, both of them telling the other about themselves. Their likes, their dislikes, their families. Zoë smiled, feeling as if she had known Dwayne for years instead of just a few hours.

"It's getting late," she said quietly, "I should probably go home."

"Want me to drive you?"

"That would be nice."

About twenty minutes later they arrived at her home. Dwayne had driven slower than usual, just to make sure he had more time with her. He liked her. She was fun, nice to talk to, she was smart, and even though she clearly knew that the boys were dangerous, she didn't mind holding back whenever she was teasing him. She was not someone who pretended to like things, or to sugarcoat things. She was refreshingly real. He smiled, helping her get of the bike.

"Dwayne?"

He looked up.

"Can- can we meet again tomorrow?"

"I'd like that," he smiled, looking at her. "Can I kiss you?"

She smiled shyly, feeling her face heat up. She nodded, stepping closer towards him. He kissed her, softly at first. His hand moving to the back of her head, pulling her closer. Her hands grabbed his jacket, as she kissed him back. Their lips soft against each other, neither of them willing to let the other go, but they knew they had no choice, seeing the lack of air would for a problem.

Slightly out of breath she looked at him.

"I guess I'll see you tomorrow then," she smiled, as she walked off. She didn't think about the beginning of the night anymore. The only thing on her mind was Dwayne, and how she wished to see him again.
