fennel lightwing is the grandson of a dragon empress. he's a trans boy with mind control powers that he mostly uses to make sure he doesn't get misgendered. his face is scarred because his grandma disfigured him before he was exiled for questioning her historical revisionism (he was right), but unlike zuko he's very cheerful and sociable.

milly (short for milady) is a form of the chaos goddess kai del'oubliette, one of the recurring characters in the whyverse.

rina walang-apellido is another form of kai who appears in the whyverse side story rosemary, the sage of time. her surname literally means "doesn't have a surname" because she can't read or write in any modern languages. she's a vampire who napped too long and now doesn't fit in with the modern world, but she still loves to party.

wiggly sniggle is a hatchetfield fan character! i love the sniggles (see also: my sniggle poetry) and i made fun elaborate costume designs for them. wiggly sniggle's costume is based on children's variety shows like hi-5 and the wiggles, as well as ocean-themed kids media like luca and bubble guppies.

káhi (short for kahilíngan, tagalog for "wish") is a wild magic sorcerer tamaraw tiefling. they are a dm pc for the magic school dnd campaign that i run for my sisters. they were raised by textile crafts nuns and they love studying arcana.

fantine (short for úfantimaya, quenya for "my dear unveilable one") is a musical-themed lore bard fairy. fae is in the candlekeep mysteries and comes from a musical theatre themed forest commune. fae hates lying and loves trying to steal people's names.

risa (short for Papuri Sa Diyos Sa Kaitaasan, tagalog for "glory to god in the highest") is from the chosen playbook in thirsty sword lesbians. she is an aromantic trans woman binukot in a political marriage, and she's just living her best life.

lucille carolee "lulee" spence/butler/porter née sargent is an old money new broke 1950s housewife toreador for vampire the masquerade. she's had three husbands and all she wants to do is drink blood and organise dinner parties forever. her favourite dishes to make are aspic salads, and she can fold a napkin into anything.

What neopets would various spiderman and venom characters be?

...so, uh, I actually started asking myself this question a few months ago. And. Well. I got a little carried away with my inspiration!

I'll link to each of their lookups just for fun, if any of my followers have an account, but most of them don't have anything on there yet.

This is extremely long so it's going under a break:

We start with Jubulile van Scotter.

She gets to keep her name because it was untaken. (: I made her an Aisha, because Aishas are a favorite of mine and also most of the wig items look really good on them. I opted for a kind of sporty look for her - essentially sci-fi-ing her canon characterization as a sailor. In this world, her strongest connections are with Flash, Eddie, and Victoria Montesi.

Next, we have Eddie Brock.

Eddie is so special he gets two looks - but primarily I have focused on his characterization in the most recent run of Venom, inspired by some of the ideas put forward in #18. I've named him Meridial in the sense that Meridius is the version of Eddie who lost all of who he was. What if Eddie managed to lose all semblance of who he was because he's so wrapped up in survival? Caught between life and death, in reality only a few years have passed for him, but to him it's been millenia. It would be tragic - just like him. (:

Then - Edgy Boy McEdgeson - I mean, Dylan Brock.

I'll be honest, I don't have anything particularly special in mind for him. I just think it would be funny for Dylan to be a cute little dragon but he has EDGE or whatever. The big-ass sword is inspired by his Big Edgy Sword he has as Codex. And this version of Dylan is definitely based on Codex. His name over on Neo is Cytozyme, which after some looking up is actually the name of an enzyme that cuts proteins - it specifically is what converts prothrombin to thrombin during blood clotting. And also I just thought the name had good vibes.

Who's up? Victoria Montesi!

While not strictly a Venom character, her surname was untaken so obviously I had to create her in Neopets. She's a Zafara simply because I like Zafaras. And yes, she is holding a lesbian pride flag as well as a huge fucking wraith staff. Idk, she's a magic user of some kind.

Next we have the Venom Symbiote!

Tragedies was actually the result of a trade - I had the name Olympus sitting around so I traded for this custom. (: I love Mutant Acaras and had wanted one for many many years. In the Neopian universe, the Symbiote is more of an entity than anything else. A... space entity. It's a work in progress. But it's still definitely a symbiote, which brings us to...

Peter Parker.

His name over at Neo is Tintilie, which is actually from the elvish language crafted by Tolkien. Now, while I am not personally a big Tolkien fan, I did look it up and the name means "sparkling" or "twinkling", which I think is a hysterical way to describe someone who is literally glowing because he's radioactive. Notice how he's an Acara? Just like someone else? Yeah. ;) And yes, he's also a teacher. and YES, he is also still a vigilante.

And who is Peter, without Mary Jane Watson?

Like Eddie, she gets two looks. Her base color is Eventide, because I think it's pretty. However, the old-art style Faerie Lenny is wonderful to me, and I like that it's based on a male peacock. Also because she believes that gender is a game and she's in it to win it. Her name on Neo is "Klieglight", which is a type of lighting that used to be common on movie sets! She goes by "Kay Lynn" or "KL" over yonder. She's still a fabulous model and aspiring actress!

Who's up next? Our friend Harry Osborn! Or maybe Harry Lyman.

He's a little rainbow Meerca because I think I'm funny. And yes. He still runs the Coffee Bean. And yes, his father was still rich as hell but is now gone (not dead, just serving time). Okay, so, he isn't actually painted Halloween - yet. But I'm working on it. Right now he's red, which kind of matches his mom? But anyways. Yes it is admittedly inspired by his Red Goblin look but like... what if he was just cursed but also was just chill about it. He's not actually evil or nothing he's just twelve. Also yes his background is a parody of the "this is fine" comic because that's his life. Falling apart around him and he's trying to pretend everything is fine. Theoretically he would have first been a Rainbow Ixi. The Osborn extended family is messy and big though, so we can't leave out...

Lily Hollister!

She is still blonde but I gave her better hair. (: There's a little bit of a nod to her as Menace, as much as I hate to give Dan Slott any credit... but I love those horns. They look good on her. She's fabulous. And that's why her name is Diahmonds! And who's just as great, is her and Harry's son...

Stanley Osborn.

Look how cute he is! Right now he's a Green Kougra wearing a UC Baby Kougra token, but I want to make him Rainbow to match his dad's coloring. For right now though? He is baby. And the creepy lab is inspired by the fact that right after he was born he had that touching moment being hand-fed by the Lizard. He's fine, I'm sure.

And last but absolutely not least is Flash!

While he doesn't have any tokens, this fantastic Kyrii does get two customs - one with a wheelchair and one with a cane. Why? Because he's amazing that's why. I definitely leaned most into his Space Knight stuff because reasons. He still for sure has connections with everyone listed above though!

Hoo boy this got really long but as you can see I've regained some inspiration in Neopets. They also all have designs I've doodled but nobody gets to see those yet because I'm embarrassed fjkdasl;jfla.

Seijō Suzume/Crown Princess Suzume, an old magical girl character who’s recently been updated for a TTRPG

One of the things my group decided on was that we were going to play a group of older magical girls/boys, so she needed to be aged up.

So far, her backstory is that when she was 10, fairies from the Kingdom of Sonoria chose her as their Crown Princess and Protectress. Among the candidates they had been watching, Suzume showed the most compassion, grace, and determination. The oath of protection and loyalty she swore granted her magical powers, but then the training began.

Etiquette lessons, agility and swordsmanship classes under the best instructors Sonoria could offer, the overseeing of important ceremonies and programs, fairy school on top of normal human school, lessons on the politics of fairy society…all beginning before she even understood what she signed up for. She just kind of heard “princess” and went with it.

It’s been 13 years, and her responsibilities have taken their toll on her. College is a slow process, due to her duties requiring she travel between worlds often for different classes. But she’s used to it by this point. Dreams in the traditional mahou shoujo sense are foreign to her, and her two states of mind seem to be burnt-out and stressed. Despite being pretty good at masking her emotions, her eyebrows have gained a seemingly permanent worried expression.

She does want one thing, and that’s to make everyone around her happy. But of course, that means that she’s left feeling empty. That’s what it means to give your all in order to serve the greater good, right? So, she’ll follow along and do what others think is best for her. She’s got no reason to do anything else, she’s on a tight schedule and her duties won’t wait.

I wonder what she’ll end up discovering?

Also, hilariously, she’s for (a slightly modified version of) Thirsty Sword Lesbians but isn’t particularly thirsty, and isn’t a lesbian. Funny how things can turn out that way lol

Originally, her character had a lot more of a traditional magical girl look to her (almost Madoka-like, even though Madoka wasn’t an inspiration). Puff sleeves, puff skirt, twin tails, fairy tale motifs (the more family friendly version of Swan Lake)…

The inspiration for her new look leans more into traditional tragic ballets (specifically Giselle with some leftover Swan Lake pieces). On top of that, my group’s got a 9 Muses thing going, so I added in a neckline that’s vaguely Greco-Roman. I’m pretty sure her Muse is going to end up being Euterpe, since Sonoria is a kingdom based around sound and music.

Suzume’s name in Japanese is spelled 誓上 鈴女, with “Seijō” using the kanji for “oath” and “above/up/top” and “Suzume” literally meaning “bell girl”. I wanted to try and make a meaningful name in the style of Sailor Moon and Pretty Cure, where everyone’s names tie into their magical identities! PreCure does the whole “sounds like a real surname” thing a lot, and it took ages to come up with Seijō (jō is pretty rare as a nanori reading of 上). Seishita (literally vow-under) was my first choice, but “under oath” in Japanese is associated with 上, not 下. So, Seijō it is!

Death of Doctor Strange: X-Men & Black Knight by Si Spurrier (writer), Bob Quinn (artist), and Israel Silva (colorist)

Jacks: “... They did not look like that in the swimwear special ...”

Have I been Black Knight pilled? Yes. Was it because Jacks is a sword lesbian? Also yes. I read Si Spurrier’s Curse of the Ebony Blade in preparation for this one-shot and I am so fucking glad that I did. Jacks rules. She’s a feisty academic who I have claimed as an asexual lesbian, barring any evidence to the contrary, and she’s just fun. I love her dynamic with Dane, where he wallows around a bit in self-pity, she’s more prone to utilizing the anger for action. She’s clever and intelligent, coming up with the idea of sharing the burden of the mantle of the Black Knight. It’s also just fantastic to see heroes who aren’t white (based on her surname, I’m guessing she’s half Indian, although I could be wrong), as goodness knows Marvel already has more than enough white heroes. 

The story is pretty simple - the barrier’s broken down, a demon world remakes reality in London, the X-Men are turned into terrific demon designs and feed on everyone. Jacks is acting as the Black Knight and quickly gets found out by Excalibur, Faiza Hussain, to not be Dane Whitman. The pair manage to work together to save the day, with Jacks being inspired by the teamwork the X-Men display to renew her interest in working more closely with her father. It’s a sweet and fun story, with terrific artwork that really sells it - it would be so easy to just give the X-Men some bondage looking outfits and spooky eyes, but Quinn really goes above and beyond to make the demonic X-Men scary. 

What can I say? This issue is fun! I’d recommend picking it up, it ultimately won’t mean much in the grand scheme of things, but it establishes that Jacks is a mutant and introduces her to Faiza - hopefully things we’ll see continued in a Black Knight ongoing??

"Turf Wars: Part One" - a review

I am a very happy girl tonight.. My 7-months-preordered comic book FINALLY arrived, yay! I read the first part of "Turf Wars" around 1 am and I absolutely loved-loved-loved it! It really gave me the familiar feeling of TLOK (I haven't watched it since last year *sob* and now I miss it but I'm busy rewatching ATLA currently, will have to continue with TLOK after that). Okay, I'm still shaking a little because I'm so excited, but I'll try to write down some of my favourite things about this part:

First off, in general it was so gay, there's so much happening, but it's all sort of related and balanced out rather well imo, the illustrations are pretty *bows to Irene Koh*, the colour palette is soft and it all left me with such a nice impression! I'm very pleased that this is the first TLOK comic book ever to be released (almost forgot "Friends for Life", but "Turf Wars" is the first trilogy). I have no idea why I've seen so much critique about these kinds of things, but none of it bothered me at all. I think some people are only focused on (pointing out) the negative sides that they've forgotten why they're reading these comics in the first place - to enjoy reading them, to notice every positive little detail instead, to appreciate the fact that life goes on in the Avatar world and we've been blessed by Bryke to see it through these beloved characters.

Secondly, I think I'll mention some great moments I enjoyed very much. Obviously I can't get around the way Korra and Asami interacted - the loving gazes, the kisses, the hand holding, worrying about each other, talking about their feelings, fighting alongside Team Avatar, putting arrogant businessmen and the President in their place. It was so precious to see them doing everything together (and NO, it wasn't too much for me)!

Korra coming out to her parents - their reactions were realistic. I especially liked that Senna hugged both Korra AND Asami, too. To anyone who wasn't too happy with Tonraq's reaction - it was resolved later when Kya talked to Korra that it's Water Tribe tradition to keep very personal matters to yourself (I love that it's special in the Water Tribes and how Korra's face softened when Kya said it). This is such an important lesson and it's one my family has propagated as well (my parents taught me). Not everybody has to know about everything private that goes on at my home, if only my closest friends and family members. This is why I related to Tonraq, even Senna said what he meant - that not everyone won't be as accepting. And do people blatantly ignore the fact that as Korra was rushing out of the palace (with Asami's hand in hers, demonstratively) Tonraq apologized?

So they're now heading back to Republic City.. D'aawwww!!! Aang and Katara's children welcoming Korra and Asami back. Enough said. One of the most heartwarming moments. Poki for President! Meelo, you little nugget, I love you. And Korra stroking Poki's head, so cuuuute! Asami being a little shy about going with Korra to give a speech (because she's just the Avatar's lover.. Oh c'mon, Asami! Do it like Katara did when Aang had to thank everybody after the invasion failed, am I right?). I understand her and Korra was understandably disappointed. I love that Kya noticed it and later went to talk to them about it. Her smirk when Tenzin said that those two make a good team together. Kya, you lesbian goddess, stop stealing my heart, I'm straight! Also, I loved that Korra quoted Tenzin during her speech, that was touching.

Air Temple Island is such a beautiful place.. Aang and Katara had it good over there. I mean, that pretty bi-flag-coloured sunset, I'm in love! Kya's conversation with Korra and Asami meant so much to me (one of my favourite scenes EVER in this comic, if not in the entire series concerning Kya) and I can't wait to see more of her. If not, then I'm actually satisfied this time since we learned a lot more about her from these little moments where she was in. The most important being that AANG LOVED HER AND WAS FULLY SUPPORTIVE WHEN SHE CAME OUT TO HIM! Take notes, fandom! Aang and Katara loved all of their children, they only wanted the best for them and they tried to be the best parents they could be *drops mic*.. Also, yeah, when's Bumi's turn to interrupt his father's reincarnation's private moment with her girlfriend during that sunset? Ha-ha!

Did anyone even notice that the police headquarters is now temporary? Did that building with Toph's statue get wiped out during Korra and Kuvira's battle? Aww, I'm sad if it's so, I loved that statue because Toph was in her police uniform there.. *remembers that Toph has 2 other statues in Zaofu* Never mind, moving on! *lol* Then again, can I say how happy I am that Kya was in the evacuee camp helping the healers!? This gives me hope that maybe we'll get a peek at the hospital (and KATARA'S STATUE in front of it) if someone gets injured in the following parts!!! Also, even as a little girl, Kya totally went to work with her mother at the hospital (Katara would let her daughter play with the medical instruments or practise her waterbending and healing in her office, she might've gotten annoyed by it a bunch of times but eventually she'd always end up playing along to take a break from her paperwork). This is my headcanon and ain't no one stealing it from me now. Help, I NEED to draw this!..

Zhu Li taking command at the evacuee camp, damn yes! She's got my support for the election! Korra smirking when she sees President Raiko's campaign poster.. *lmfao* Same, Korra, same... His support is NEGATIVE 3%, pffft.. I can't breathe, this entire meeting was hilarious!

Wonyong Keum (note: this guy has a surname, a rich type) - it took me two pages and I already knew I hated that guy. Asami's right, she doesn't need his condolences. I giggled when Korra scared him and his workers away by going into the Avatar State and ever-so-gracefully airbending herself back down. Omg that smile, she was so pleased with herself (and so was I)!

Can we talk about the fact that Tokuga took out Viper by using his hook swords (the same weapon of choice by Jet) and can hold his own even as a nonbender? Just a reminder that nonbenders can be just as powerful as benders.

BOLIN!!! Bolin is such a precious gem throughout the book and I can't even.. Still talking to the captives and Mako being annoyed af (seriously, the changes in his expression in each panel are on point). Two-Toed Ping is a hoot, I really like him. Also, Bolin calling the first double date - my son, you are too sweet! Mako's.. god.. damn.. face. Mako.exe stopped working. *lol*

Ugh, I just adored that sweet Masami hug! Also, the radio frequencies have been screwy ever since the spirit portal appeared - I think this might play an important role in a future part. They wouldn't have put it in there otherwise (unless it was just meant to show that during this battle they were in trouble because they couldn't call for help). And the fact that the spirits' darker side appeared due to negative energy coming off from the battle - I didn't expect that, neither did I expect that bird spirit to be the one to charge at Tokuga. Since he saw Korra talking to it before it came for him, I don't blame him for thinking the Avatar sent the spirit to do that to him. Also, Korra having to choose between protecting Asami or stopping the dark spirit - this might turn some of the townspeople against her when they find out (if they think she was playing favourites and Tokuga tells them she ordered the spirits to attack humans).

In conclusion, I really miss TLOK, but this comic made me experience so many emotions, the familiarity of the characters and the breathtaking locations, the plot and the pace of action - everything made me feel like I was actually watching a brand new episode of the show and wow, I'm crying as I type this.. *rubs eyes* It made me feel at home, welcomed in a world I fell in love with back in 2012. I couldn't be happier.
