I absolutely loathe that meme of hamsters dying in terrible ways, and I can't believe how freely people talk about them basically doing animal abuse.

I had many, many hamsters throughout my youth. All of them but one lived long lives for their species, passing of either old age and humane euthanasia, and the one that didn't was given appropriate healthcare for his unavoidable medical issue before he passed. It was not that hard, and it did't cost very much money. Like... How are so many people fucking up that badly???

#i only don't have hamsters anymore because of my cats and my snake and i lowkey miss having pet rodents #they are amazing little guys and pack so much love into those short lives #i might again some day but my ball python mara might live into her 40's so it won't be for a long long time #my little hamster drew was my entire world when i was 12 and when she passed i cried buckets and mourned for months #she was very sick and the choice to euthanise her was a very hard one for a kid #idk i see those memes all the time and it pisses me off #but i suppose it's confirmation bias as not many people are making memes of their hamsters dying peacefully of old age #idk i was also a tenderhearted autistic girl with gentle hands #and neurotypical kids are...#not like that #i remember having a kid come round my house to pet drew #and the way she handled her almost gave me a panic attack
