Reading arguments among historians or scientists is always funny because some people are completely normal about it and some people are soooooooo off the walls angry and it comes through the academic style of their writing as vicious contempt to a degree that's almost shocking and always hilarious

#this women in 2008 is like '🙄 a team said theyve found evidence of yersinia pestis in mass plague graves 🙄 and that as time goes on we'll #find more and more dna evidence confirming that the plague was The Plague and not another diease or a bunch of diseases 🙄'#and then just a decade later the academic record is just dozens and dozens of articles about ancient plague dna #she was soooooooo pissed and contemptuous of the idea that it 1. could have been plague 2. that historians could prove it and #3. that the dna evidence found by that first team could be trusted or confirmed by other teams #'how could a disease have a different rate of transmission in the past compared to the present 🙄'#<- something only someone not familiar with infectious diseases could say 😭
