OKAY THESE ARE JUST SOME CUTE THIUGHTS BUT LIKE OKAY. what if reader is just so incredibly sweet to everyone and everything n simon is just standing behind her like a guard, all scary and intimidating.. like shes such a disney princess!! BUTBUT what if she teaches him how to be gentle?? like he’s spent so many years of his life killing people for his job and using his hands to hurt others for his work. he’s been told his whole life that he needs to toughen up, so what if reader just completely brings out the incredibly soft side of him that he didn’t even know was there?

i can just imagine reader doing cute things and simon standing idly by whilst she picks flowers from the ground to put in her purse so she can make pressed flowers bookmarks for the both of them?? his heart just melts at the sight when you knelt down to pick some pretty yellow flowers in the summertime when you two went for a nice summer’s evening walk.

or you find this like baby chick by your home (cuz u both live in a cottage area, duh) and its wing is hurt so you squat down; a bright, but kind, grin on your face. you put your hands outward in a bowl-like shape, sweetly whispering to the injured creature as it chirps, “cmere, you poor thing..” when the chick waddles in your hands, simon swears you must be a fairy of some sort. simon watches you intently--one of his favorite activities. the way the chick trusts you immediately..he can’t take it you are so perfect.

the yellow fuzz ball of a chick chirps every so often, and you use gentle hands to pet it before standing up and looking up at simon, eyes wide and full of joy.

he smiles, his cheeks dimpling when you giggle and pet the chick.

“you wanna hold him?” you ask quietly, as to not threaten the bird—or possibly to relax simon’s tense body. before he can respond, you say, “here, open your hand---"

he hesitates. “what if i hurt it?“ he asks, genuine concern sounding in his gruff voice (although it's more quiet than usual as to not frighten the chicklet).

you pout slightly, glossy lips turned down.

“you won’t," you begin with a comforting smile, trying to comfort your burly boyfriend. simon nibbles his bottom lip as he glances his dark eyes from you, then to the bird, then you again. "i promise you won't hurt 'im, simmey. hold him like you hold me when im sad! okay?"

he nods faintly, letting out a small chuckle.

carefully, you bring the baby chick closer to him as you tell him to cup his hands together.

his body is stiff as he holds the chick, small chirps from the animal making him nervous.

“see? you’re doin so good, simmey !!” you encourage, running a comforting hand along his tattooed bicep. the chick is completely dwarfed in ghost’s tattooed, scarred hands.

something so innocent being cared for by someone so..not.

like the relationship between the two of you.

not that simon was a bad man—far from it. he just never knew the power of being gentle.

and he was so grateful that you brought that out of him; a soft, loving gaze and smile set on his hardened features as he watched you stand on your tippy toes and pet the bird gently with your pointer finger.

I saw the hcs of hort falling for someone from the good school, but what about not just hcs of them being a princess from that school, but they are different from the others. They don’t like pastel colors like the rest and prefers darker colors (Let’s say they somehow found a black dress or took one colorful dress and just modified it. Plus don’t really care what the rest think), not afraid to stand up for others no matter what school they are from, kind, and empathetic (You could add Tedros too if you’d like)

It’s not everyday when Hort gets to see such a … different kind of princess.

Typically, they are all like — sheep in fancy clothes and makeup, always following what the most popular shepherd’s words were as if it were like their last drop of water in a dry and hot desert.

So when you were thrown in and showed up in such dark ‘never’ colors in the entrance ceremony of those lame-o ‘ever’s he just — he stared way too hard at you from afar.

What were you trying to accomplish when you chose that outfit? What were you thinking when choosing such darkness of colors that almost had you thrown to the side of the ‘never’s by the humanized wolf guards the very first day?

He was honestly just confused as soon as he first saw you, you were so much different than what he was used to seeing or hearing. So when he continuously saw you wear such clothings for more than a day, he decided to well — stalk you to learn more about your intentions.

And he wasn’t gonna lie and say he didn’t start liking you as soon as you started to show up the next few days after the second one still wearing dark clothing — further pushing the continuations of his stalking towards you in where he’d just stare at you with his arm perched on the cafeteria table with his head leaned against his closed fist.

All while he sighed so dreamily towards you.

Wow that was long.

But it’s true, he so rarely got to see you though because of your different ‘statuses’— so when he did see you again, he always used that time to stare at You.

It wasn’t far after the first few days that You were able to catch on that an never was staring and soon felt kind of uncomfortable.

And it wasn’t because the guy was an never, no — it was just — that weird guy seemed to have a staring problem since the first time You came in.

Well — everyone here had a staring problem when it came to Your clothing style — the difference was that while the others stared in disgust, envy or pity … he stared with something akin to a Dreamy Look.

And that always seemed to put you on a fluttering edge of — confusion, and extreme flattery —

Not you’d outrightly say it, not to this pretty stranger of a never, after all — what’s the fun in making things easy.

After gathering all your courage one day, you had decided that it was time to finally speak to this staring guy.

A smile grazed your colored lips, eyes squinting under the light of the sun rays as you were lightly caressed by the sun itself all while you stared down at the sitting wolf who looked like he was seeing an ethereal being right in front of him.

So this is how it started, the little romantic advances of a wolf man and dark clothing wearing riding hood.

Confused Yet Enamored

He was honestly so — confused as to what you were wearing when he first saw you walking on the grounds of the ever school.

Wondering why a Never was walking in the same grounds of the Evers, but after seeing you on the second to third day, it was solidified that you were an Ever … dressed in darkened items.

At first, he had been confused — extremely confused and not understanding as to why an Ever would ever wear such darkened clothings to the point of being confused to a Never.

Why an Ever would ever be kind to a Never when they were the enemies, the villains, of their future life long stories — even standing up for them from time and time again.

He was unsure, but he could not deny the rapid palpations of his golden heart at the sight of your beautiful figure.

Be it from Far, Far Away or Close By.

As a popular guy, he can’t deny that he was somewhat — arrogant when it came to a romantic advance with pretty ladies, but you had been indifferent to the sight of him.

This was one of the many reasons why he has been so enamored with you, why his eyes could not leave you for more than a second.

And sure, it might sound like a typical ‘this is the first time a lady has ever rejected me’ sort of romance, but this was different for Tedros.

This was way too different.

Especially when he started speaking with You, his eyes not leaving You as he had a spark of interest by the time he first spoke to You.

Your empathy, Your kindness, Your wit, Your intelligence — everything about You was different than the ordinary one minded ladies he has met before … not to be insulting.

And by the stars above, you were one of a kind to him, You were the beautiful moon that shined the path of salvation to him, the setting sky that held the most beautiful of darkening colors — You ARE his One.

"Baby, listen, the whole time your hand will be in mine hmm? I don't want no running off kay?" Niki asked in a soft yet stern tone as You smiled nodding. Within the 5 seconds in which you entered the mall, your feet were itching to run to the nearest store, your mind already running from store to store as your eyes scanned the whole place.

"Baby- remember what I said-" Riki added, his eyes narrowing to the littlun beside him "Of course baby I will- OOH CLOTHES-" There you go, running to the clothing shop but Riki was quick to act...

In one swift move, he pulled you into his arms, hugging her securely as he stared down at your slightly flustered figure "What did I tell you, princess?" Riki asked as you hid your face in his chest.

The male smiled at this action, softly letting go, his hand still gripping onto yours as they walked through the mall. Yet again, your feet were taking you to all kinds of stores, Riki being quick to act, pulling her back, cautiously not wanting to injure her arm.

His eyes suddenly fell on a running toddler, the toddler's parents' holding the toddler on a leash "Babe- I think we need to go to a store that sells those leashes-" Riki pointed out as you giggled, mischievously.

"why? are we going to have a baby???" You asked giggling at the way his expression changed "WHAT- EH- NO- ONE BABY Y/N IS ENOUGH FOR ME-" Riki defended himself as you just laughed more at the poor boy.

"So what if I can't get a kids leash thingy- I can always get a dog leash- Im sure it'll fit around your neck-" Riki said as y/n kicked his ass. "OW-" Riki yelled and within seconds she ran off in a random direction.

"She a runner?" A man randomly asked, sighing as Riki noded, with a sigh "She's a runner she's a track star-" he replied "Mine too- so I put her on a leash-" the male said, pointing at his daughter as Riki simply walked away, searching for You.

"There you are, princess- I swear we're going to have to do online shopping from now on if you keep running like this-" Riki sighed as you giggled "But babe that's boring-" You whined as Riki placed a soft peck on your forehead.

His hand held onto yours again as you two left the store. Was it annoying? yes, was it exhausting? yes, but either way it made him happy.

It made him happy to see his beloved giggle and run happily when with him, and on top of that, it gave him a reason to hold your hand more often, he loved the thought of everyone in the store knowing he's your boyfriend and you're his girlfriend.

And overall, he loves you, the most important reason why he tolerates your chaos. "BABY BABY BABYYY- SCREW MC DONALDS IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE- LET'S GO WINGSTOP!" You squealed as Riki snickered, placing a soft kiss on your cheek.

"As you wish princess~" The boy smiled, his hand firmly holding yours, as he matched your speedy pace, the 2 of you walking to the food court as you ordered your food.

Poor Riki was met with an empty space beside him when he got the food, the male sighed as he looked around, only to see you sitting by an empty table, cleaning off the crumbs from the people before.

He walked over to you, hurriedly, hoping to not lose you again, he placed the food on the table and hugged you tightly. "You really are a runner- you scared me for a split second I thought I really lost you-" Riki mumbled as you blushed at his words.

You kissed his lips softly as you looked up at him "You know- you're really cute when you're shy- and worried- but don't worry- Im not going to disappear that easily-" You smiled as Riki ruffled your hair.

The voices in my Wish Rewrite

I haven’t talked much about it, but in my Wish rewrite some characters would be recasted. I wanted to make this post just to show which actors I’d replace… And it’s pretty much everyone except Magnifico, cause ya know, Chris Pine is Magnifico, and Magnifico is Chris Pine, it’s just how it is.

So let’s get this started!

Asha- Denée Benton

Im absolutely OBSESSED with this woman’s voice, she sounds like an angel and carries so much personality in her performance, she sounds pure, youthful, hopeful but also strong, everything I imagine Asha as. THIS is what I imagine the 100th anniversary Disney princess sounding like. Not that I didn’t like Ariana DeBose’s singing tho, but I just love Denee Benton more, and hey, it’s my rewrite, so I get to imagine Asha’s voice how I please. Also I can totally see Asha and Aster singing this song.

Aster- Jordan Fisher

Oooooh this man, I love him so much. His voice has the perfect energy for Aster, sounding youthful and melodic like a prince, it had to be a literally other worldly voice, and I think Jordan’s voice is PRETTY DANG other worldly, like, this example I found on Spotify doesn’t even do him justice, go listen to his other singing chops on YouTube.

If you look up Jordan Fisher you’ll see the guy is DEEPLY connected with Disney in his career, from singing the song “Happily Ever After” 6 years ago, which is the theme song for the Magic Kingdom, to now being the main singer of 4-town in the movie Turning Red. And of course this one time he made a cover of “You’re Welcome”, the guy just lives and breaths Disney so WHY NOT have him as a wishing star? It just makes sense. But besides working with Disney he also has experience in a musicals such as Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, Sweeney Todd and more recently he became the new Orpheus in Hadestown… And by god I need a good quality audio of him singing “Wait For Me” more than I need air because that song fits Aster’s character SO WELL.

Magnifico- Chris Pine

Yeah no surprises here, you can’t have Magnifico without Chris Pine… But HIS SINGING VOICE IN THIS SONG THOUGH??? ITS SO GOOD!!! I listened to “Any Moment” ONCE and now I constantly go back to listen to it over and over and imagine young Magnus and Amaya meeting in the woods. I still haven’t posted about Amaya’s backstory BECAUSE IM TOO LAZY TO FINISH THE DRAFT I HAVE EXPLAINING IT- But let me just say her hesitating to start a relationship with him is VERY accurate to her character. And Magnus being like “May I kiss you” out of nowhere because he: 1- Sees himself as irresistible so he thinks she’d fall for him with just that and 2- he had 0 social skills before he met Amaya.

And then there’s the line “Life is often so unpleasant, you must know that as a peasant” ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! This is LITERALLY something my Magnifico would say, I’m so freakin lucky!

My point is, my rewrite’s Magnifico sounds like THIS when he sings, with a deep, smooth and honeyed voice that makes you want to trust him… Take that high pitched voice Chris Pine did in “This Is The Thanks I Get” and throw it out the window. Disney wasted the man’s talent. I’m so mad.

Amaya- Emily Blunt

Do you guys see my vision? Do I even have to say anything? Like really, go watch a scene of the Mary Poppins remake, any scene with her at all, that woman has a voice that DEMANDS respect, while also being motherly, it’s practically perfect in every way. I’m using “Open Up Your Eyes” here as an example though because… Well, it fits her backstory… Ya know, the backstory I’m stalling to talk about 👉👈… But it also just simply fits her personality in general!

And no disrespect for her voice in the movie, Angelique Cabral… BUT ITS EMILY BLUNT AS AN EVIL QUEEN!!! Come ooooon! It’s just meant to be!!!

Also side note, since we’re talking about Queen Amable, THIS design that came from an deleted scene is how I’ve imagined her the whole time:

Like, I could not STAND her hairstyle in the movie, it simply didn’t fit my vision for her character, see, Amaya is sophisticated but she’s also… Practical and likes to feel comfortable, hence why in my rewrite her dress has no sleeves, she values her own comfort more than conforming to the social norms… AND THAT HAIR LOOKING LIKE HEADPHONES WITH THAT CROWN THAT MADE HER FOREHEAD LOOK LIKE A SQUARE DROVE ME NUTS!

So yeah, this is our Queen Amable, voiced by Emily Blunt, with a British accent, in all her glory, we’re moving on.

Valentino- Gregory Mann

This is just a bonus mention, since Valentino doesn’t even sing in my rewrite, he just speaks in like 3 scenes… And you guys have only seen one of them so far. But either way, let it be known he sounds like Gregory Mann, because Gregory Mann sounds adorable. That is all.

OKAY FOOLS HOW YALL DOING IM BACK AFTER BEING DEAD FOR LIKE MONTHS-

See, I had a Thought which the Merlin fandom might be interested in. Especially the fanfic writers.

I was browsing Pinterest, as you do, and stumbled across a few tumblr posts instead of actually looking on the site… again, as you do.

And I came to a fun idea.

So y’know how with some pieces of fantasy media they go ‘oh with the amount of stupidity here this is totally a D&D game’?

Well… that, but Merlin.

Like we already have scenes that would totally fit the bill of a D&D game. The whole scene with old Merlin and the knights with the stepping stool onto the horse is just so unbelievably D&D, and I can imagine the scene with the “..reading poetry.” as just real bad persuasion/deception rolls from both Merlin AND Arthur.

Just imagine the chaos.

Here are my personal headcanons for their classes, but feel free to debate about it:

Merlin: Sorcerer. This man is too much of an idiot to be a wizard (though he DOES get hurt enough to be one), and I reckon being a wild magic sorcerer would totally fit the bill. He’s powerful, but hijinks must ensue- thus, the wild magic. Or perhaps not. People might assume it’s wild magic and turns out it’s just Merlin thinking he’s funny.

Arthur: Bard. Immediately. He’s got paladin energy as in like the ‘Chosen One’ and also he’s a knight, but he’s so stupid and also charismatic that he just gives bard to me. Like he’s so stupid and charismatic with literally everything, that Merlin ended up liking him. Like this man is a himbo that dresses brightly.

Morgana: Absolutely a warlock. She would have so much fun with eldritch blast, and being weird and spooky totally fits her vibe later in the series. She would probably be the one to sometimes have the braincell in the party and use her magic responsibly… but also eldritch blast. You gotta use eldritch blast-

Mordred: I don’t think he has chill enough vibes for the druid stereotype, but he definitely could be a druid. Giving funky nature powers to this kid would really be a hilarious idea. Like imagine Mordred with wild shape. I also think he has the possibility of being the Dionysus kind of druid… y’know, the greek god who turned people into dolphins just because? Yeah, him.

Gwaine: Barbarian. Or fighter. He may be a knight, sure, but with the amount of bar brawls he gets into? Absolutely. The fool definitely would fist fight someone in a dark alleyway at 2AM, it’s just what he’s like. He likes to hit people and drink alcohol- it just fits his whole MO.

Percival: Also a barbarian. His entire thing is strength, and the ‘little man’ comment just screams of a man with high intimidation. He may be a gentle giant and not going for the whole stereotype of angry rage beast, but this guy can totally scare without it.

Lancelot: Lancelot is a paladin. He’s the very epitome of ‘Good Boy.’ This guy is such a Righteous knight and just a generally cool person that I think that a god straight up WOULD get in contact to have him fight for the forces of good. I love this man so much. I also love paladins. Perfect combo.

Elyan: Elyan’s a cleric. He’s caring and loyal, as well as not bullying Merlin regularly. He’s also pretty cunning so possibly rogue there as well? I’d be more inclined to lean towards cleric the most though, cause he’s one of the most chill knights and also balances out the chaos of Gwaine and Percival as a duo… they’re nuts-

Leon: Also a paladin. Less of a ‘pure and true soul’ guy like Lancelot, but more of a ‘stands for what’s right and upholds the law’ kind of paladin. Like he’s totally a follower of chivalry with all the traditional ways of doing things- always respectful and polite but just kinda a little at arms length.

Guinevere: Stereotypical druid. Totally a tree-hugger and loves plants. Also she gets to be a Disney princess now and talk to animals in forests. Living out her best life in the forest with her whole cottagecore aesthetic. Even with her becoming queen, she’s totally still a druid. Albeit a royal one now.

Gaius: Oh he’s so gonna be an artificer. But specifically an alchemist artificer. He can make healing potions and mix weird medicines together, sure, but jesus christ the old man gets into just as many shenanigans as the main group. I mean, the whole possession fiasco with the goblin is enough proof for that-

It was then Dodger came out!! Everyone was cheering loudly!!!!!!! :3

He then looked around it was still hard to believe that federation presence on Boiling isles soil helping them and this stadium!!

Sisko appeared on the screen!!!! And the crowd cheered!!!! :3 Now it was time for Piano Dog!!!! :3 Dodger then played the intro again and this time went into the song with his harmonica and everything!!! :3

frozen: i love frozen TO THIS DAY. the songs are SO GOOD. the plot??? YES. sisterhood and girlhood and trauma and true love and reindeer. best movie ever okay? when i was in the first grade me and my best friend at the time Claire acted out the entire movie at recess. she was elsa and i was anna and we got three random boys to be hans and olaf kristolf. i do not recall if we made anyone be sven but i wouldnt be surprised.

tired of all the x readers looking the same, the reader characters acting the same and being the same.

i read one reader insert where it was almost promising but i got turned off very fast. maybe i just can't read fem reader anymore. someone on here did say that female readers might be drawn to male reader inserts because there's more variety in characteristics

i saw some headcanons where the characters mess with the reader mentally and fuck with their stuff and it's portrayed as cute but it really isn't. it's disrespectful if not downright malicious i mean???? playing sounds in your girlfriends room to the point she thinks she has something wrong with her ears? making her constantly paranoid? that's not cute that's literally ways of abuse. it really shows that a person has been mistreated and thinks that what happened is normal and acceptable. well it isn't. it's grounds for a breakup is what it is. i have a thing about my peace and especially my things so if my partner started feeling special we'd first have a conversation and if it didn't stop the relationship would end no ifs ands or buts.

now to the real point of this post. im tired of reader always being a goody goody and if reader is portrayed as "unhinged" it's more often than not... weirdly??? sexualised???? like it's gross stop it. people like to harley quinn-ify the reader but that's garbage. i want more readers who are angry more than sad. i want readers who aren't "cute" or "pretty". i want more regular shmegular looking readers. i want more readers who are cynnical and unimpressed, readers who can be unpleasant people. c'mon ve realistic there are more bitches in this world than any of those disney princess ass people and there's nothing wrong with that. you don't owe anyone kindness just decency (and that does include being indifferent to people. just because im not engaging with you doesn't mean im being rude) i want more readers who scoff and sneer at others, arrogant and cocky readers who know their worth and DON'T EVER get knocked down by a male character. i want readers who doesn't wail and sob and fall into depression justcause a man doesn't like them or cheated on them. i want readers who drop people as quick as they picked them up. i want readers who aren't all blushy blushy around any male character and doesn't swoon over anything vaguely male shaped. i want readers who don't put up with teasing and annoying, readers who walk away and refuse to engage with people who aren't willing to be normal and respectful with them. i want more aromantic readers(there was one really good tokyo rev fic) or asexual readers who are openly disgusted with the overhyping of sex (minor projection here). im just tired of readers being portrayed as innocent, childish naive and "kind" and being treated like a sex doll in smut

i refuse to read fem reader inserts. they're not good i'd rather stick to gn and male reader. if i ever write fem reader it will always be either dom reader or not smut at all

hey lumi! I just thought of another question I wanted to ask you, other than batb, which live action remake do you think is the best? I haven't seen any and I want an expert opinion 😄

oh my gosh!!!!! i’m so honored. and i’m also SO autistic so i did so much more here than you asked. but anyway i wanted to wait to answer this until today because the little mermaid (2023) just dropped on disney+ and i JUST watched it for the first time. so i can include it in my list!!

of course prefacing with these are all my personal opinions, im not a film expert (and i pray to God i never am) i just like what i like! so without further ado: my thoughts! also this is just in chronological order, not ranked.

alice in wonderland (2010) - dude!! this was SUCH a hyperfixation for me when i was a kid. somehow, batb 2017 is NOT the first live action disney movie i’ve been utterly obsessed with. this movie is so good. i love the lightly gothic, mysterious fantasy aesthetic that is has. i love the wardrobe, i want to wear every outfit alice wears. i love how dark it is, like there’s such an edge to it while still being pleasant and fun enough to respectably be a disney movie. johnny depp does a fantastic job of course, (purely discussing his acting abilities here) he truly brings the madness into the mad hatter. all the acting is fantastic though. i highly recommend this film. you don’t really need to have seen the 1951 cartoon, i hadn’t, but it doesn’t hurt to! (i don’t recommend the sequel, alice through the looking glass, though. they really should’ve quit while they were ahead on this one)

maleficent (2014) & maleficent: mistress of evil (2019) - i enjoyed both of these!! i actually liked the second one more, but either way, it’s such a fun take on sleeping beauty. and this is coming from someone who LOVES sleeping beauty 1959!! it’s different obviously but it really is a good time, absolutely worth watching.

cinderella (2015) - beautiful! lovely!! not the most exciting film honestly but i do love the aesthetics and wardrobe. it’s a really pretty, pleasant movie. i’d love to rewatch it sometime! if only disney+ had it! which it doesn’t! for some inexplicable reason!!

beauty and the beast (2017) - i know you said besides my wife but obviously i have to still list it because. that’s my wife. anyway perfect film no notes!

the nutcracker and the four realms (2018) - i wanted to like this one so much more than i did. but it was just, so weird. it derails from canon in a way that isn’t enjoyable. ah. twas a let down, for me.

christopher robin (2018) - i don’t remember much honestly but it’s cute!! certainly worth a watch, but i don’t recall anything too special about it. it did make me cry though (that’s not hard for me to do at movies, to be fair)

mary poppins returns (2018) - CANNOT RECOMMEND ENOUGH!! THIS MOVIE IS LIKE IF JOY WAS TURNED INTO A FILM!!!! AAAHHH!!! :) SO LOVELY SO WONDERFUL!!!

the lion king (2019) - :/ genuinely not worth your time. it was TOO similar to the cartoon in terms of storyline, so it felt incredibly pointless to me. plus, it’s kind of boring that they look like real lions. i felt like i was watching animal planet but then pulled out of reality whenever they spoke or sang afjskfj

aladdin (2019) - ever since i saw this, i’ve only ever had three takeaways, and i’ll say them like a compliment sandwich. 1. visually STUNNING. the colors and the choreography, the people! all very beautiful. 2. the romance was… very flat? i honestly kept forgetting there was a love story going on. when they kiss at the end i was like “OOOHHH RIGHT!!” lmao. there’s just so much other stuff going on, jasmine & aladdin’s love story really fell to the wayside for me. 3. i LOVED that they gave jasmine her own song. she’s like the only disney princess that didn’t have her own song, somehow, so i was happy they gave her one and it was SO good. i remember it giving me chills on the first listen. — so, all in all, it was fine. not the worst but also not a personal favorite. worth a watch.

mulan (2020) - BLEGH sorry i almost threw up a little. maybe the worst live action remake of all time? let’s think: what are the best parts of mulan 1998? the music? mushu? shang’s bisexuality? shang, in general?? WELL LOOK NO FURTHER BECAUSE THIS HAS NONE OF THAT!!! :) it’s genuinely just… so bad. they took the basic concept and turned it into a freaky ass action movie. they make it so mulan was like, gifted from a young age with superhuman abilities (calling it chi, which, i don’t know the full story but i believe there was some major cultural appropriation that occured) instead of just being a normal badass human!!! and it wasn’t the villain from the cartoon it was a random witch. nothing made sense and it was stripped of everything that makes mulan one of the greatest disney films of all time. *godfather voice* look how they massacred my boy.

the little mermaid (2023) - so honestly i never really liked the original cartoon. it just never clicked with me. but i had every bit of hope that this one would maybe bring it to life for me!! and… well, it wasn’t bad! it was visually lovely and the music was fun. i just don’t think i’m a “love at first sight” kind of person. but eric was an incredibly likable nerd boy, sebastian the crab was funny, and ursula was SCARY. especially at the end oh my gosh???? anyway. worth a watch, but not my personal cup of tea. ariel and eric get points for dancing a bit AND they hugged at the end which was really sweet. couples Do Not hug enough in media.

lastly, i can’t comment on: peter pan & wendy (2023), the jungle book (2016), dumbo (2019), lady and the tramp (2019), and cruella (2021), because i have not seen them. i will absolutely note though that i despise cruella 2021 in solidarity with my friend @freakwiththeknifecollection because it blatantly disregards the canon of 101 dalmatians 1961 and they couldn’t even like?? train the dogs?? for ONE scene?? huge huge mess. i’m just scratching the surface. if you want a live action cruella, look no further than 101 dalmatians 1996. top tier live action that i loved as a kid!!

Rewatching Sex and Violence

Welcome to “Mind the Rocks, Boys: A Supernatural Rewatch Blog” with Lor and Mace!

Up today, s4e14: Sex and Violence.

Men are killing their wives for what seems to be no good reason, and so the boys, of course, investigate. Turns out they’re on the hunt for a siren, which takes on the form its victim most desires. In the midst of the hunt, tensions between the brothers are simmering, mostly because Dean hates that Sam is doing whatever he’s doing with Ruby and lying to him about it. It doesn’t help that the Hot Doc they meet while on the case is totally into Sam and not Dean (this isn’t a situation Dean’s familiar or comfy with), and when Dean finds out Sam has boinked her in her office while he’s supposed to be working, Dean accuses HD of being the siren and goes off to solve the case on his own. Jokes on him, though, because the FBI agent he teams up with IS, in fact, the siren (oh, and should we talk about how it’s presenting as a dude for Dean?). Eventually FBI Siren infects both brothers and it honestly doesn’t take much stick-poking to get them right at each other’s throats. In fact, they come very close to killing each other when Bobby shows up just in time to gank the monster and save the day. #bestfosterdadever. The episode ends with Bobby leaving the boys with a slight stinkeye, and the boys shoving their real feelings under the rug, as per yoosh.

Okok so it's all over the place but i was definitely thinking about the a crossover now that Mattel and Disney are partners again.

So my idea was like, wibbly wobbly mirror stuff happening and most of the EAH cast end up in Wonderland. They're confused at first bc its not the WL they know. Even more so, they're thrown into NRC and are confused.

But unlike Yuu, they get placed into their corresponding dorms (with characters like Cherise being in savanahclaw, cedar in prolly octa or hearts).

Now here is where shit gets fucky. Their history's conflicting. I think the most interesting ones will be Raven and Faybelle since the QoH is just kooky and villanized bc shes neurodivergent.

Raven and Apple (and Hunter ig) in Pomefiore

Id imagine that Raven would be the most conflicted on the queen since her mother is a POS. There are rumors around the school that they are descendants to the corresponding historical figures. Her relationship with Vil would start pretty strained since their personalities would conflict so intensely. Vil being straight laced and no nonsense while Raven is pretty easygoing and expressive. Plus, Raven improvises a lot so it would make him wonder if she truly belongs. But the mirror doesn't lie. It holds more truth than anyone realizes.

Plus the whole "beautiful" thing got lost on Raven so she probably won't gel with keeping up appearances.

Raven would probably get along with Epel but not Rook. Epel is often misunderstood like she is and I think that he'd connect with her on not fitting in. Rook is just weird and...I almost forgot about Hunter that shit would be hilarious. Hunter would def learn how to be a better hunter but at what cost?

Apple and Vil would get along too well. Rather than seeing her as another Neige, he would give her more credit to her underlying poison. Much like Raven's mom, Vil would straight up call her out on how it's a facade for how "evil" she is underneath. It would certainly shake her. She's relentless. She was made for Pome. The most compelling story here would be Apple realizing her dark side and being "a villain".

Im getting a kind of School of Good/Evil vibe from this dynamic but given that morality isnt black and white, it would be about accepting the dark side of your personality while maintaining the light in you. Nobody is perfect, not even the beautiful.

Briar and Faybelle in Diasomnia

Ok so I am very tilted with how Fay and Briar get shafted in the original series. Faybelle rarely shows up except to be the butt of a joke. Briar is is gonna sleep longer than Apple and her friends just joke about that shit even tho everyone will be dead when she wakes up. But I digress.

Faybelle would look up to Malleus especially because he's connected to the dark fairy just as much as she is and he's fuckin OP. It leaves her...feeling less than. Her mother would most certainly value Mal over her. And it would put her in a bit of a depression. Her magic isn't as strong and coupled with her conflicting aspirations, Fay would feel as if she may as well give up. She's been beaten by someone who isnt even from the same realm as her.

Mal of course would notice this and be a pretty good grandson shoulder to cry on. After all, she's doing her best and still gets no credit. Fay is also lonely and rarely gets invited anywhere (cursed). She has great potential and pleasing her mother will hold her back. Since she's not a princess, she also doesn't have to shoulder a responsibility that would inhibit her from being a cheerleader and a powerful fae.

The arc for faybelle would be her overcoming her fears and being her own person rather than imitating her heroes. I think lilia would also help in that too since he's fascinated by her.

Fay would get along with Silver since hes so low maintenance but Sebek would bother her simply bc hes annoying. He would probably err on the side of caution and regard her with similar respect as he does with Mal. And it bugs her over time. Thsts the joke with that.

Briar would be a little sore about being in Diasomnia. She doesn't look like she fits in with the aesthetic and being around intimidating fairies would be new for her. But I think she would find her stride. To her surprise, she's a powerful and great mage, but it would also be hard for her to accept. In the back of her mind, she'd wonder if following Apple as a Royal was worth keeping up with. Briar is just different from her friends and she's been denying that even though she sabotaged legacy day by throwing the book into the well.

Briar would probably ask to train with Silver and Sebek. Apparently shes surrounded by brothers amd she does have a sort of rough-and-tumble personality if it means having a new experience. Thatd be the most fun for her and i think she and Silver would prolly fall asleep all over the place together. Oh, she'd also like to hang out with Kalim and try to get into Scarabia, but before she can actually finish the paperwork for all that shit, she'd figure out that she was already in the right place.

Miscellaneous thoughts

Really quickly, the Wonderland kids would most likely see a bit of a power struggle between Lizzie and Riddle. Not because they're both Like That, but because their rules are slightly different. They really do have the same temperament to the T so as long as they compromise on the nuances of the rules, they'd co-lead pretty well. Honestly, theyd have the most wholesome of interactions and Riddle would probably be a little envious about her relationship with her mom. There is nothing but love there and he wished he got that kind of affection from his own mother.

Cherise and Ramona end up in Savanaclaw of course. This is how people find out they are sisters and Leona would feel some type of way about the royal/rebel thing. He'd think its a dumb conflict but he'd def be a rebel in their eyes. Also he'd be recruiting the girls for his team since they are really good at it.

Cedar would maybe be in Octa, but shed struggle with the tweels and azul being privy to her truth-telling. On the one hand, she'd be an asset to the lounge. On the other, she'd be a liability to the lounge. They would have to purposefully omit information from her so that it doesn't get used against them. And despite being in Octa, she and Ortho would be besties for sure. They're the same in plenty of ways but Ortho would point out that she can do things human girls cant. And she's also plenty real already despite being wood. That'd be the heart of her development. Something like that would be hard to accept up front but in time, Cedar would realize it.

Speaking of which, Cupid is in Ignihyde. She'd be a fucking menace to all those incels and especially Idia who wants to avoid everyone. Theyd def find conflict in one another and Cupid is nothing if not persistent. If he won't love anyone else, he could at least stand to love himself. This would be a comedic side plot. Dexter is also in Ignihyde.

Brooke is in Ramshackle with Yuu. Thankfully she has her own magic so she need not be 1/3 a student. She's fine with this but losing her omnipotence and being able to write her own story is kind of mindblowing to her. Think of one of us being isekai'd into our fav tale. Brooke is just us in that regard. As much as I don't like Brooke, I think she would be the reason all this happened.

bad movie! but since when is that news to anyone

here is a short list of things I liked:

-shockingly, the actors playing prince eric and ariel had pretty decent chemistry! i thought their scenes together were somewhat cute. they were certainly the only actors in it who seemed like they were trying to give their all, except for maybe a few minor largely unnamed side characters. nothing special, but in a soulless CGI cash grab poorly disguised as a "live-action" work, having a handful of vaguely pleasant scenes was better than nothing.

-also shockingly, I did somewhat like most of the scenes the movie added from the original. rather than being a straight-up adaptation, they added a number of scenes to either flesh out eric's character, flesh out the romance, or to further explore ariel's experience on land. they weren't all great scenes, and were basically the equivalent of polishing up plastic, but some of them worked fine at a mechanical level, and at least it shows that a little bit of effort was made? although a number of creative choices were clearly to Ward Off Discourse. we will discuss this.

-uh. i thought the costumes were okay. there was an attempt

ok that's it for good shit the movie did. here's the stuff i did not enjoy:

-BAD cgi. like APPALLINGLY bad. I'm by no means a visual effects expert but the way the actors were integrated into underwater environments was horrible. they didn't look like they belonged there, their movements were too floaty even for underwater, and the way their hair was animated to float looked distracting and unnatural. additionally, the "camera" was set up frequently in action scenes to not capture a lot of the action, seemingly because the movements were difficult to capture well in CGI. a lot of the time in the CGI environments, the lighting would be distractingly weird and make the whole environment look even more fake than usual. the color palettes didn't feel like they always had a lot of thought into them, which also led to weird lighting and visual problems, and it never felt like the CGI animals had much weight. speaking of which...

-WHY DID THEY MAKE THE FUNNY ANIMALS WHO SING AND DANCE LOOK LIKE REGULAR CRABS AND FISH AND WHATNOT

-NO SERIOUSLY IF YOU'RE TRYING TO PAINT-BY-NUMBERS RECAPTURE THE WHIMSY IN THE ORIGINAL? GOING FOR "REALISM" IN ANIMALS THAT DON'T PARTICULARLY EMOTE IS A HORRIBLE CHOICE

-halle bailey seems to be a perfectly fine actress, based on what i've seen of her. it didn't seem like the director wanted her to facially emote hardly at all ever. she mainly goes for the wide-eyed vaguely pleasant disney princess expression the whole film, and it makes her performance feel horribly strained. im not expecting a disney film to have stellar acting - its a movie targeted to kids and millenials with nostalgia - but it kind of sucked to watch because there were a few moments where she DID emote more and it felt like she was doing pretty well in those moments! it felt to me like, rather than a lack of ability, she was simply hamstrung by those directing her :(

-awkwafina rap written by lin-manuel miranda.

-on that note, none of the new songs were very good. they also changed under the sea to not be an ensemble piece? look, im not the biggest fan of the original film, but having the fun colorful song where lots of fish and whatever sing all together change into a sebastian solo act with ariel support is... a weird choice. it does kind of feel like the whimsy has, in general, been sucked out of this film at times.

-outside of a few side characters, nobody seemed like they wanted to be there besides the leads. the deliveries were awkward and strained. king triton ESPECAILLY seemed like he did not want to be there. sir was there a gun held to your head here

-perhaps the biggest sin of all, but ursula did NOT serve cunt. half the fun of watching the original movie is how over-the-top she is as a performer, and here the actress is just Not giving it. her vocalization sounds really oddly strained at times? ma'am is there also a gun held to your head

there's a certain structural ethos applied to this movie. I alluded to it earlier with the comment about warding off discourse, but probably a better way to word it would be "trying to retroactively defend the original film, and try to make parts of it more 'up-to-date' when thet's not possible." a sort of repolishing and image-update of the Little Mermaid brand, if you will.

obviously, remakes have frequently done this in the past. I would argue that is often the point of a remake: a way to make the IP still viable in the modern day as a source of income to the company. but it felt very transparent here. the little mermaid has often been criticized for being an insta-romance where ariel's only dream is to marry a random guy? here's several more scenes with eric and ariel to establish their chemistry. people have discussed some of ursula's lines in "poor unfortunate souls" as being objectifying? we're cutting them. and hey, let's just show everyone that the little mermaid is now a diverse story that values women. let's cast a black lead actress and have several side characters be woc, including a new character who is eric's mother.

to be clear, I don't think these changes are bad, in and of themself. it's nice that these actresses of color were cast! the changes made to the plot were kind of fun! but all of these changes are only in service of trying to squeeze even more money out of an existing cash cow. it's very obviously an image and marketing thing, rather than people feeling passionate about retelling an existing story. and really, there's only so far you can go with a story originally only showing white people and written in 1989. all you can do is polish. there are no broader, structural changes you can make to it, because all that would do is turn it into a different story. and of course disney is never GONNA tell a different story, made by and about black women, because there's not a cash cow in that. in the hands of a megacorporation, diversity is only going to be a token gesture to accumulate more profit.

it's a disney remake. at the end of the day, there's not too much point in thinking too hard about it. I watched it for a laugh with my good friend, basically. but I'm still interested in it as a gateway into the decision-making process of the disney board of directors and stakeholders. i've seen some of the other disney remakes, since my mom and younger siblings do like watching them and this one in particular strikes me for how little care was put into it. I'm wondering how well it did at the box office, because this really does feel like we're reaching the final possible end for these remakes. they're not making very many cultural waves. it seems like nobody likes them. but clearly, the disney board is hoping for them to be a perfectly marketable recapturing of whatever the existing IP had. who knows how many remakes the studio has left in them?

whatever. the late-stage capitalist megacorporation media landscape continues to be a depressing slog. I'd recommend going and finding something actually good to watch lmao

Ok so I’m seeing the little mermaid today finallyyyyyyyy and here’s some rambling thoughts, wishes and predictions

First of all, wow… it’s here…. It’s been a 374657 year journey and the day is finally here and I don’t believe it kkkkk. Last year at this point in time we didn’t even know how Halle was gonna look like… wow

I don’t expect to like this movie more than the original, the og is literally in my top5 disney movies so it would be impossible, but I still have high hopes for it. They would be higher if the beauty and the beast and aladdin hadn’t been a lil disappointing. Im not a hater of those movies, in fact I really liked them when I watched them but the more I hear other peoples opinions the more I agree that they aren’t all that. I actually remember being super disappointed by a whole new world on the spot so yeah. My expectations for the little mermaid are high but not that much cause of the previous remakes. I expect to have a fun time but not a mind blowing one.

One of the things I was most excited about were the sisters. I’ve already been spoiled that they barely appear let alone speak so im already disappointed 😭 One thing I love about the og movie is that the mermaids all have the same tail and bra design and the only differences are in colors and hairstyles and accessories but one of the things I love most about this remake already is the complete opposite, that all the mermaids have very very different tail, bra, colors and accessories. I like how they did the complete opposite of what the animation did cause there’s literally no wrong answer here. We did A in one movie so now we are not doing A again. I love it. It would have been very boring to translate that sameness to live action because we’ve seen it already and works better in animation. All this to say I’m very excited for the mermaids. That’s my n1 priority.

The other thing I’m most excited about is the reveal. I hate the reveal in the og movie and this remake has the opportunity to at the very least snatch this one thing away from it and improve upon. The reveal is one of my fave tropes of all time and I already know this Eric is obsessed with the sea and it’s creatures so I’m literally dying to see this scene omg. As much as I love the trope, there’s some ways to completely mess it up and make it cringe and I have a ton of second hand embarrassment all the time so I hope they do it well.

Part of your world is my fave disney song, second only to let it go. I’ve been trying to avoid it but it’s been in all the trailers so I just listened through it and the d23 leaks, but I still haven’t heard the full audio now that the cd is out. What can I say, Halle sounds absolutely perfect no notes there. The scene it self is better than what I was expecting but the animated one is still superior. Animation just allows for so much more than live action, we already know this. Can’t say I’m disappointed cause I’m not but idk why there’s still this part of me that hopes it’s gonna be better when it’s literally impossible but yeah 😭

Rn, I got nothing bad to say about Ariel. Halle looks amazing, sounds amazing, im impressed with her acting in all the clips and trailers I’ve seen. She gives off vibes of a softer and calmer Ariel than the og one, but it’s still very much a Disney princess performance and part. She’s graceful, has a very pretty smile, her eyes are very expressive when she’s happy, determined or curious. I think the only thing that could mess her up is the script for the new original plot bits. Cause other than that I’m very happy. I’m not obsessed with her human clothes. I hope there’s better ones that haven’t been spoiled to me yet. Her tail tho….. I was VERY scared, cause there’s some very specific characteristics that I either love or hate in mermaid tails. But I love hers so much. Her tail is the perfect length with the perfect width, the color is gorgeous, I prefer when the fins are just 2 like the og 1 or like dolphin fins but I also like hers, at least it’s better than some of her sisters, and looks perfect and strong enough to swim. I usually hate little fins on the sides or the back but I don’t mind on her cause give it’s extra detail. The bra is cute and inoffensive even tho i prefer shells any day. Sometimes I wish the hair was red other times I’m fine with the orange… idk but at least it’s not brown

I think I want the movie to be half in the sea, half on land…… it’s gonna kind of depend on the plot but as much as ariel hates being a mermaid I love her more as a mermaid so GIRL U BETTER SWIM A LOT STILL

Ever since I saw the actress for Vanessa I’ve been obsessed with her. I hope she has at least 10 minutes of screen time but I have a feeling it’s gonna be under 5 😭 she looks so good I really want to see her 😭😭😭

I think I’m more excited for Ariel’s journey to become human and learn their ways than I am for the romance plot… Eric is cute but idk…. Maybe the trailers didn’t advertise it well enough but I’m not that excited for the romance rn… they look cute obviously but maybe it’s because I know how it ends that I’m more excited about the new bits about her as a human rather than the new bits about them as a couple.

But speaking or marketing I love love love how they didn’t spoil the new material. The trailers kept using the same footage of the plot points of the og movie and I’m happy. I feel like there’s more room for my expectations to be surpassed this way. I’m very curious about the new stuff even tho I’m still cautious cause I hope they don’t try to change of spell out stuff that was obvious in the og movie but idiots didn’t get so now they need to be more upfront about it to avoid ending up on a cinema sins YouTube video like beauty and the beast tried. Honestly don’t care about the animals in this one. Disney needs to balance better these remakes cause if it doesn’t work in live action then don’t force it. I think cinderella best balances the aspect of being a remake but also just an adaptation. They add and change enough for the story to be different but also keep enough stuff for the movies to be similar. I’m just saying that i wouldn’t mind if ariel had absolutely no friends in this one. If she was just Maloney mermaid. Or maybe she had a few fish friends that don’t speak like the mice in cinderella. But wtv. Rn I don’t care about Sebastian, flounder and scuttle

I didn’t like the casting of Melissa at all when I first saw it but I gotta say she shut me up real fast when her clips came out. She is eating the role up so far. I’m very impressed.

Idk if I got anything else to say rn before watching the movie but these are my thoughts rn.
