What inspired you to write the fic this way?

Enemies to lovers makes my brain go brrrrrrrrr, and I realized that there weren't a lot of them for Viktor, nor were there any really long slow burns, which is the best vessel for enemies to lovers. So I guess I just decided to do it myself.

I think that Viktor is more suited to enemies to lovers than people give him credit for. Obviously he is a skrungle, but he is also very stubborn and hard to dissuade from doing things once he decided he wants to do them.

I don't remember the exact reason I chose the backstory that I did for Reader, other than literally just because pirates are cool and that I was fascinated with all of the LOL lore that wasn't used in Arcane. I know that I definitely wanted to go in on Reader's character, but I also wanted her personality to be unique to the story and to have a lot of room to work with, so I just picked the one that looked the most interesting and ran with that.

8. Did any real people or events inspire any part of it?

Any kid that appears in this story is almost definitely based off of some kid I was in charge of when I was a camp counselor.

I can't think of anything else off the top of my head, but I will say that a lot of the pirate and/or science stuff is based on real shit! Whoever said "truth is stranger than fiction" was fucking right man, reality is wild and has great fodder for stories. In general, I try to write from reality when I can for this reason, and also because I think that it makes it more believable.

9. Were there any alternate versions of this fic?

Yes! Speaking as someone who goes through 3.5 billion drafts for every chapter, there were definitely some alternates. I might release some of them one day as like a "deleted scenes" type of thing, but that'll be long after this fic is over because some of them have spoilers and shit aekjrthkejrht

Originally, Penny was a lot less redeemable. Like, obviously she's not a model citizen now, but the initial draft of the first few chapters went WAY more in depth with the actual crimes that she committed, and people properly died in them and stuff. I really didn't want Penny (or Viktor) to be innocent victims of circumstance in this because that's not spicy enough for my refined palette /s

I ended up not going with this one because 1) i felt that it made Viktor and Penny not equals, since obviously one person was worse than the other, 2) I didn't think that it aligned with Penny's main flaw, apathy. Apathy extends to both good and bad shit, so there'd be no need for her to be unnecessarily cruel, and 3) it would’ve made her too hard for readers to relate too I think.

Also, at one point, I realized that I was kind of edging into Jayvik x reader territory, so, just for shits and giggles, I wrote a bit of that to see what it was like. And while you can mark me down as interested in Jayvik x reader i do have a self-indulgent jayvik x reader isekai in the works tho ekjthrektj it doesn't fit with this story so I'm not gonna pursue it here.

11. What do you like best about this fic?

Oh gosh uh erjtherktj I really like Penny? I mean obv I wanna write a reader I like, but also everyone else seems to like her which was not expected.

Like one of my favorite things is seeing everyone's take on Penny, because everyone has a unique one and it's really gratifying to see people latch onto it and make Penny their own like YES!! That was the goal! kejrhtkjer but yeah I'm pretty happy that people seem to like Penny
