Love of a Fox and a Hunter
Tumblr media
Hello @ tellmesomegoodstory!! I’m so sorry that this request took so long ˚‧º·(˚ ˃̣̣̥᷄⌓˂̣̣̥᷅ )‧º·˚ I really hope that you enjoy this and hope I actually wrote Rook well. I’m terribly sorry if he seems OOC though OTL
·       When he first stumbled upon her, he was mesmerized
·       Though it was an accident, he couldn’t believe how soft and silky her fur was, eyes bright and clear as well-cut gems
·       To be able to see such a beautiful fox in the forest behind the school… He never felt so thrilled in his whole life. Heck the feeling of excitement he was feeling could rival the times when he’s watching le Roi du Lion
·       But when he accidentally steps on a twig from where he was hiding, the fox snaps her head towards his direction before running away
·       Disappointment and regret filled his heart as he watches her disappear, thinking she was lost and that their meeting is a mere fleeting moment
·       Who would’ve thought that wasn’t the case though?
·       The next few days, Rook continued to meet the fox in the woods, never once getting tired from how beautiful she was
·       The fur that always shines under the sunlight with those same beautiful eyes – très bien! Beauté!
·       He used his hunting skills to try to get closer to her, trying to get to see how she behaves, moves, and appear up close
·       Yet, who would’ve thought that this fox was very sensitive to her surroundings? As if she could sense him when he’s 10 feet away, her eyes would meet his before she left again
·       Rook couldn’t help but think that the fox was teasing him, challenging him to try to get closer to her if he can. And as a pure, honorable hunter, of course Rook took up the challenge
·       His visits to the woods became more frequent as he already memorized the times the fox would appear. He even prepared the foods he often saw her ate and lay out traps, not to actually catch her though! Just to keep her stay in one spot so he could try to approach her
·       The determination to get close to her was to the point that Leona and Ruggie, for once, didn’t get spied on him for a whole week
·       Leona: I can finally nap in peace Ruggie: As much as I appreciate not getting my tailed pulled on, you shouldn’t be napping in the first place Leona-san!
·       Soon, a month passes and the day he succeeded was a day he couldn’t forget
·       He didn’t think the apples he used that day would’ve been so delicious as the fox, for once, got lost in eating it
·       Rook quietly gets closer to her, concealing himself and his aura until he was actually a foot away from her
·       He could hear his heart beat in his ears as crouched down and watched her, only to freeze when he noticed something strange
·       Was it because of how well-kept her fur was? Nope. How she was smiling when eating the apples? Nope
·       A hint of perfume coming from the fox and how elegant she was eating the apple, so clean and organized as if she was a human made the gears of his brain screech to a stop
·       Know that one meme with the lady and all those math equations? That was Rook during the moment. Just…with a confused smile
·       Hein? Hein? C’est quoi? Is she really a fox ????
·       His curiosity gotten the best of him as he tried to reason why the fox smelled and behaved like a human, not realizing how he was subconsciously reaching out and about to grab her, until he snapped out of it when he feels the softest fur he had ever felt in his whole life
·       Right after he touched her, the fox froze and turn her head toward him, finally realizing his presence
·       Rook tried to make himself look friendly in the eyes of the fox, waving a hand with a “Bonjour~”
·       He really shouldn’t be surprised that the fox bit his hand and ran away like usual. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t painful though
·       The fox doesn’t visit the forest for some time, putting Rook under the weather. By that, Rook often mentioning to the people around him how his cheri, seul et unique l’amour went missing
·       Rook: Ah~ Mon amour! Celle qu’a volé mon cœur ! Where are you ? Epel : Uuuhhh…what’s wrong with Rook-senpai ? Vil : Ignore him. He’s just crying over his fox again. Epel: Fox? Rook: Mon amour!!! I beg of you, come back!
·       As he waits for her to come back, Rook starts preparing another trap, this time to temporarily catch her as he knew that the next the two meets will most likely be the last
·       What seems like forever, he finally saw her again as he found her napping under a chestnut tree
·       Quietly setting the trap (yeah, he carried it with him after he completed it because he’s extra like that), he waited for her to wake up and fall for it
·       Good news, she fell for it. Bad news. Er, if it should even be considered bad news….The fox turned into a female human. With fox ears and tail.
·       It took him a while to finally realized what had happen as the now female human continued to struggle getting out of the trap
·       It was his first time seeing such beautiful person - perfect skin, clear eyes, and luscious hair
·       When she yelled at him to let her go, Rook snapped out of his thoughts before freeing her
·       Giving her a minute to rest, Rook grabbed her hands and looked at her with sparkling eyes
·       The way her eyes widened and ears perk looked cute in his eyes as he asked her if she was a beast-person
·       He ended up blushing when she was able to get out of his grip and ran away without answering his question
·       To meet a beautiful beast-person and strong, physically and magician-wise too! Merveilleux! Magnifique!
·       Soon enough their relationship changed to that of cat-and-mice, where Rook would try to get close and learn more about her while she would run away
·       During the chase, he would often ask her questions non-stop as he tried his best to get to know her more
·       Heck, he would appear and corner her at every single hiding place she knew of, making it harder for her to get him off her tracks
·       Yet, for some reason, he didn’t like it when someone was close to finding out about her existence in the forest, leading to be the reason of how she escapes him as he blocked anyone that was close to seeing her from actually taking a view of her
·       Overtime he realized that he actually fell for her
·       It became clear to him that he liked her when someone nearly saw her in her human form when she tried to get out of one the traps, he lied on the forest’s floor again
·       One thing led to another and he hid behind a tree with her in his arms, trying to keep her quiet as he waited for the student that was walking through the forest to leave the area they were in
·       When it seemed safe, he released a sigh before looking at her
·       He never would’ve thought that he would see her blush. And the fact that she was blushing made her seem adorable to him
·       He felt his heart beating faster as he saw her struggle to stay quiet and calm – her ears pressed against her head while, surprisingly, gently gripping the sleeve of his coat
·       When she finally noticed him looking at her, he couldn’t help but think that she was très mignonne
·       In fact, he could arguably say that she was more like baby fox than a full grown one
·       It was obvious that he was lost in thought as he got caught off guard when she shoved him and ran away but this time, not bothering to transform back into her animal form
·       Blinking a couple times, he blushed before his lips curled up after realizing that he, Rook Hunt, the hunter of love, is in love
·       It leads to the current situation, where he’s chasing after her again like usual. Only this time, he’s trying to get her to accept his feelings for her by carrying a bouquet of roses while running after her
·       “ Mon cheri! Attend-s’il vous plaît !!” He yells, only for her to yell back that he stop chasing her
·       It’s obvious that she was getting frustrated as he doesn’t stop, but instead, continues chasing her
·       Though he does wishes for her to accept his feelings despite getting rejected, but would’ve respected her answer had it not for the flash of fear and hurt that he saw in her eyes
·       The broken look she gave him, though only lasting for a second, made him worried and gave him warning bells. Especially, after being around her for so long, he knew something bad would happen if he were to let her run away like usual
·       It doesn’t make him feel any better, never thinking she would’ve experienced something so painful to the point of making such expression….
·       He could still feel his heart break when remember it
·       When she suddenly stops and turns towards him, he slows down and tries to walk towards her with the bouquet but ends up freezing from where he’s standing when she threatens to burn the forest if he takes on more step
·       His body feels it was poured with a bucket of ice-cold water as she growls how she hated men, especially those that were like them, going on how it was men like him that ends up just using women as they please and for their own ulterior goals
·       Feeling wronged, Rook tries to say something to her, how his feelings for her were genuine and honest
·       But, he ends up getting snapped at as she calls him a liar
·       Rook ends up going quiet, watching and listening to her past in between the insults she throws at him
·       And while doing so, he can’t help but for once, get angry
·       He rarely gets angry, as he was a hunter and hunting require patience in order to catch the best prey. Yet, he could feel the grip on the bouquet tighten while his free hand twitches no thanks to the feeling of wanting to hunt….something
·       C’est pathétique for man to abuse the love, the most beautiful thing in the whole entire world. And as a hunter of love, he is very. Offended.
·       The anger soon turns into a simmer of fury as his eyes are looking at the crystal tears rolling down her cheeks while she, now sobs, about the amount of hurt and betrayal she faced from her previous lover
·       The minute she mentions how she was a youkai, it makes Rook freeze and accidentally ask what she meant by that out loud
·       To him, who thinks laughter is also another form of beauty, he didn’t think her broken, heart-wrenching laughs are beautiful. Especially when she clarifies that she wasn’t a beast-person like he assumed but a Japanese fox-demon and ends up asking that, after finding out what she was now, is he going to hunt her too like her ex-lover
·       All patience Rook had disappeared in one go as he lets go of the bouquet, grab her hands and proclaims how he would never do that to her
·       Keeping a tight grip on her, preventing her from escaping and ignoring the threats she throws at him, Rook looks at her right in the eyes
·       His clear forest green eyes glows from the flames of anger, sadness, and the desire to heal her as he tells her that despite being a hunter, he’s a hunter of love not a hunter of killing people
·       He does his best to tell her how much he loves her, telling her how he actually fell in love with her since they day he met – loving her fox appearance very much only to fall deeper for her when she showed his humanoid side to her
·       He subconsciously shows desperation of trying to show his honesty and sincerity to hear as he continues to reveal how he much he adores her, that all his praises for her were all from his heart not from lip service
·       He never realized that he had gotten on a knee until he tells her how even if she were to reject him, he would’ve devoted himself to protect her even if it meant betraying whomever wished for him to catch her. Because to him, she was a precious and most beautiful existence he had ever seen
·       Rook could feel his heart beating pounding ferociously against his chest as he once, in a long time, felt nervous on what her reaction would be to his confession (first one didn’t count. He refuses to let it count)
·       Soundlessly, he gets up and brushes the tears from her eyes with his thumbs only to end up cradling her head between his hands as he gently tries to get her to stop crying
·       Once she calms down, he warmly smiles at her, asking if she was feeling better
·       His smile grows bigger after seeing her nod slightly, daringly kissing the crown of her head
·       At first, he didn’t catch what she said as she had whispered her answer
·       But, after hearing her reply the second time, he asks for permission before kissing her on the lips with joy and passion he felt for her
·       It only made him feel happier when he feels her kissing him back with her own free will while knowing that she actually felt the same way

Headcanons on how the wolves + Jaskier would react to a s/o who is due for their period soon and thus very testy/wheepy? I have just been an atomic bomb this month and it’s driving me and everyone else nuts 😖
AN// I’m sorry it’s rough right now, I feel you 100% I hope you can relate and feel just a touch better through this by laughing or feeling some fluff
The thing about the boys at Kaer Morhen is that they weren’t really aware of what was happening. Triss had explained it a winter prior due to Ciri’s first cycle, but that hadn’t meant that they were used to it. Sorceresses don’t have these problems, and that was the type of women they were around most of the time. Close friends were always invited to the keep, and when Y/n was invited, it stirred the castle into territory most people wouldn’t think it would go.
Vesemir was the first to notice, being the soft dad he was
-Being as old and as trained as he his, he could simply tell
-He had been quite the gentleman as a young wolf, and was familiar with what to do in general
-Not wanting to truly treat you differently, he still asked for certain chores to be done, keeping you up and walking, but not having to move too much
-Honey and black tea would be specially made for you in the morning, as well as having your seat warm by the time you came down for breakfast
-He made certain your clothes were washed separately and more frequently, wanting to help you feel as clean as possible. The scent of sweat or musk never helps on that front
-Since he also cooks, as well as take care of laundry, he plates your food before taking the large pots to the table. The others thought it was because you became his favorite, and while that was true, he made sure to add extra ginger as that helps with cramps. He had regrets for not growing fennel this season, but he was glad to know that his ginger stock can help make you feel comfortable
Lambert was the first to experience it
-There were pranks to be had between you two
-While Jaskier can take what has been dished, his revenge pranks were never as funny
-He was the one who wasn’t afraid to be rowdy with you, and he found out the hard way that you weren’t up for it
-The witcher had been stalking you through the rafters, waiting until he could pounce
-Cramps weren’t necessarily terrible when approaching time, but you had stopped to rub your lower stomach for a moment, trying to sooth anything before it started
-That was the cat-wannabe’s time to strike
-He slid down the wall behind you, though close enough to whereas he landed, his arms wrapped around your shoulders and he wrapped his legs around your torso in a piggy-back formation
-You immediately went off, turning and falling against the wall
-He evacuated before he would be smashed and as he rounded to the front of you, smirk plastered on his face, you cuffed him as hard as you could
-The tears didn’t come, but the unnecessary adrenaline mixed with the already foul mood
-“Not today, Lambert, I swear to Melitele.”
-His eyes went wide, and he truly felt bad.
-You had never raised your voice, even after that one time he glued your mug of ale to your hand
-He threw out a quick sorry and practically flew down the hall in the direction you had just come from
Geralt had noticed next
-It had been the smell
-Not that you smell, but with the extra mutations, he could sense something
-It had been a familiar thing with Ciri, but he simply couldn’t place it
-He walked in on it as your room was on the way to his
-You had a plant, one Vesemir entrusted you to grow, but unbeknownst to you, it wasn’t really important. He just thought you might like a little life in your room. The plant began to wilt however, and leaves started to fall. You were in mourning, resting and crying against the wall
-The White Wolf stepped in to ask if you were ok, not realizing the situation before, but quickly stepped out when the real water works started. You clutched the plant to your chest and wept
-He made a swift and silent exit, trying to not interfere with your grief nor the scent in the air
Eskel, the soft soul, hadn’t noticed anything
-The brunette had either been held up in the library trying to fit his new finds into the shelves or he was with Lil’ Bleater
-You had made contact with him in the area where the goat roamed, fawning over the dear
-He had simply thought you shared the same kind of bond with the animal as he did
-It actually pleased him thoroughly to see it, a small grin plastered on his face
-You even went as far as picking the lil’ guy up and holding him
-He hadn’t noticed it then, but looking back, you were certainly too into it
Jaskier found out through the three younger witchers asking
-“You’re fully human, so what’s happening?”
-“What do you mean?” The three other men sitting him down in the main hall’s table. Lambert looked hurt and uncomfortable, and in the smallest voice any of them had ever heard from him, he said,
-“She yelled at me.” Geralt nodded, also noting the difference in behavior
-“Her smell is different. Not bad, just off. I also found her with a plant, crying.” His tone was rough and almost angry, upset with himself for not knowing what was going on, nor knowing how to fix it
-“Now thinking about it, she did seem aggressive in her coddling with Lil’ Bleater.” Eskel’s hand flew to his scarred cheek, a habit he developed whenever he thought something was very wrong
-It took the bard a moment to think of ideas, but the realization still came quickly
-He felt confident in his knowledge, though he had certainly been lucky in his life, never really being in contact with the disastrous side of a period
-Being dramatic, but also very out of his depth in this area, he told the men to leave it to him
-He shouldn’t have
-Jaskier ended up on his ass for trying to give you a massage and for making a mess of your bed by putting frozen wildflower petals over it
-Vesemir stepped in finally, overhearing the conversation, and explained that it wasn’t a voluntary thing. That Geralt could sense the intense shift in hormones, and you were lashing out, but not because you wanted to. He, being logical and a great dad, exaggerated how much you didn’t mean it, and how you most likely felt bad. Subtlety was needed for the situation, and no one needed a grand gesture. It was simply another week in the life of someone with ovaries, and you shouldn’t be treated too differently than usual, simply with a little more care.
The boys understood, but still felt bad for whatever reason. Jaskier was the first to think of a discrete apology, realizing a surprise massage was definitely not the way to go about it. He had come up to you late the same night, a hot rock wrapped in the nicest towel he could find, in hand. His same bubbly atmosphere stayed with him as he gently handed it to you. There wasn’t an actual conversation between the two of you, but he explained somewhat,
“I’ve heard that heated pads where better than massages anyways.” He knew that when he received a soft smile that it was okay.
Eskel was the next to think of something you might appreciate. He had a favorite book, despite reading many titles over his time. Embarrassingly enough, it was a smaller romance novella about a noble woman falling in love with a dwarf that worked in her families mine. You didn’t need to know it was his favorite, but he left it in your spot as an offering, knowing how he becomes so wrapped up in the book that he looses a sense of reality while reading it. He simply wanted you to lose yourself or whatever you felt, even just for a moment.
Geralt had become spoiled on his travels with Jaskier and Ciri. He fell in love with chamomile oil and honey exfoliation soap. The scent wasn’t overbearing, and the small grains in it from the oat really made one feel clean. There was a bathing order for everyone, his lining up right before yours. Geralt had extra bars, leaving one for you one night. It was like the others, just with a hint of orange zest. He knew you wouldn’t smell or sense what he could, and again, it wasn’t bad, but he knew how you appreciated feeling clean before this.
Lambert was the last to think of something. This had been traumatic for him, the young witcher taking a liking to you more than he had with someone since Aiden. He never thought he had to apologize for anything, nor has he ever had to come up with something to make someone more comfortable. Of course, he knew he didn’t have to, but he truly cared, and wanted to do something nice. And that came in the form of fur a week after the boys’ realization.
He was always freezing, and always wrapped in fur blankets. He had made sure he had the best furs, scratchy furs being uncomfortable. His favorite was a black and grey wolf pelt he had taken from this overly large wolf he found in the Skellege mountains. No matter where he dragged it, how many times he washed it, or overused it, it continued to be the softest thing he’s felt. Lambert would be spotted frequently at night being wrapped in said fur as he would pad down to use the bathroom. The fur had been cleaned and placed on your bed one night, though when you ventured to his room to ask about it, he was hidden. He was watching of course, and only relaxed when he watched you shrug and wrap the blanket around your shoulders. They all wanted your pain to leave as you mattered to them. They all wanted you safe and secure, but none of you can help it. They all swore they would try their damndest to make you comfortable in caring ways

EPISODE 3: ABOUT ALICE
Y'all, I am SO CLOSE TO catching up to myself with these chapters! I can't wait for y'all to see the next chapter, it's gonna be all kinds of heartbreak~ >:3c
ENJOY~!
REMINDER: [Dialogue like this is English!]
The farther northeast they traveled, the more Luna missed the absolute shit out of her clunky old gas guzzler of a pickup truck.
Now she wasn’t ever one to complain—she knew better than that—but holy fuck did her feet hurt. She’d had these shoes for god only knows how long, and it was a good thing they were practically made of mithril, because if they hadn’t been mythically indestructible, they definitely would’ve been worn out by now. She had to bear it—they all did. Sore feet were mostly likely only gonna be a minor pain compared to what they were gonna face once they caught up to this Naraku guy (or so she’d heard). So complaining would only make things more irritating.
And she was already irritated enough, thanks to Inuyasha.
“We would’ve caught Naraku by now if all of you weren't demanding we stop and rest every five minutes!”
“Inuyasha, you have to understand that we don’t have your superhuman strength.” Miroku, always the diplomat.
Luna, not so much. She gave her sister a look that all but read she was about to snap, and spoke to her in English: “[If he says one more thing about us having to stop and rest, I’m throwing my shoe at him.]”
Kagome sighed. “[Luna, please don’t do that.]” Their friends looked, confused, between the both of them.
“What’re you guys saying?” Shippo asked.
“Don’t worry about it,” Luna chuckled, starting to dig through her backpack. “Damn, I need to be careful about how much I fire my gun, I don’t have as much ammo as I thought…”
Kagome furrowed her eyebrows. “I thought you brought everything?”
Luna glanced up, still rifling through her pack. “I brought everything I could, but I had to leave some ammo and one of my weapons at Kaede’s place, along with my guitar. Traveling this much, especially walking? I had to pack more food and survival shit than ammo, so I gotta conserve what I have if this is gonna take much longer—especially if we’re getting this far away from the Well.”
Inuyasha snorted, and Luna felt her blood pressure spike. “Wouldn’t be taking so long if you all weren’t so damn weak…”
Luna looked at her sister again, and completely disregarded the warning look she got back. In less than a second, she had one of her boots off and chucked it full force at the half-demon’s head. The ensuing chaos was definitely worth the satisfaction.
“WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT FOR?!”
“For being an absolute prick about us needing to rest!”
“Luna, can you please not?!”
“He’s the one being a little bitch about it!”
“WHAT DID YOU JUST CALL ME?!”
“Stop it, you two!”
“I called you a little bitch! Clean out those fuzzy ears!”
“OH THAT IS IT!”
“BRING IT, DOG BOY!”
The imminent fight (which Sango, Shippo, and Miroku were watching like a Tennis match) stopped before it actually got started. Kagome grabbed her sister by the ear and pulled back, causing the older girl to yell out in pain, before pointing at Inuyasha and shouting:
“INUYASHA, SIT!”
The aforementioned half-demon slammed face-first into the ground, and the situation diffused.
“I am sick of you two fighting!” Kagome said, ignoring her sister’s little mutters of “ow, ow, ow” until she finally let go of her ear. “Can’t you guys just try to get along?! We’re supposed to be a team here; how are we supposed to fight Naraku if you two won’t stop fighting each other?!”
Ego bruised (and her ear too, just as likely), Luna tried not to pout as she got up to retrieve her boot. “Can’t promise it won’t happen again.”
“Yeah, me either…” Inuyasha’s voice cracked as he was finally able to lift his head and glare at the elder Higurashi.
“What we’re doing is a little more serious than petty conflicts,” Miroku said, “It might take an adjustment period for all of us, as Luna is new to our group, but we still need to focus on our actual goal.” And of course, as he gave this incredibly insightful bit of wisdom, his hand was drifting.
Sango flinched, then turned to slap his cheek, pinching the skin on his hand to keep it away from her butt. “And what part of that goal is this?” She growled.
The monk chuckled nervously, “N-nothing?”
Luna rolled her eyes, a small smile on her lips as she sat back down to re-tie her shoe. “Never a dull moment, huh?” She sighed as she knotted it, finally glancing over at Inuyasha. “Alright. I’m sorry, okay? But you gotta not complain like that. Gets on my nerves.”
“I’ll complain if I wanna complain…” Inuyasha mumbled. He quickly corrected himself, as the harrowingly angry look Kagome gave him struck fear into his heart. “F-fine. Whatever. Sorry.”
Luna chuckled. “There then, that’s put to rest. And, speaking of!” Instead of a second half of that sentence, she stretched her arms out and fell back to relax back on the grassy hill they’d chosen as their rest stop. She sighed, enjoying the quiet and the sun for a few minutes. She could swear she was about to drift off to sleep, when she heard the softest little “mew!” just beside her. She opened one eye to find Kilala blinking big red eyes at her.
“Adjustment or not, Kilala seems to like you,” Sango said with a light smile.
“She sure is cute,” Luna mumbled happily, sitting up and giving the kitty little scratches on the head.
Sango chuckled. “Thank you. Kilala is my very best friend—she has taken care of my family and my clan for generations.”
“Yeah?” Luna tilted her head, quizzical. “Does she always stay in cat form?
“What do you mean?”
Tumblr media
Kilala paid the conversation no mind, she just decided that this person petting her was the lap she wanted to lay on for the moment. Luna chuckled as the nekomata curled up with her head on her thigh. “Well… funny enough, my best friend is a cat demon too? She’s even done the same—watching over our family for generations.”
“Really?” Surprised, Sango looked to Kagome, who nodded.
“I thought you said there weren’t any demons in your time, Kagome?” Shippo piped up.
“It’s not that there aren’t any,” Kagome said. “They’re just… not all over anymore, like they are here.”
“Japan is one of the only places I know of that have actually kept their supernatural m—” Luna cleared her throat, “uh—inhabitants?—in check. The country where I live? Not so much.”
“But you mentioned the cat demon you know has a human form?” Sango asked. “I’ve never seen Kilala take on any form than this one or her full demon form.”
“Maybe… it’s because Alice is a Bakeneko? Rather than a Nekomata?” Kagome mused.
Luna nodded. “Could be, yeah. She’s got a cat form like this—and like Kilala’s full demon form too—but a lot of the time she stays in her, ah….” Luna started snapping her fingers at Kagome, trying to think of the word in Japanese. “[Humanoid form?]”
Kagome shrugged, “Most of the time, Alice just looks like a human.”
“600 years old and looks 25,” Luna rolled her eyes. “ ‘I choose to look this cute~!’, that’s what she always says.”
“She’s also watched over the Higurashi Family for generations. Heck of a coincidence, huh?”

~ ~ ~
Everything hurt.
From the tip of her nose to the end of her tail, every inch of Airisu’s tiny, feline body hurt. Her black fur was matted with blood and dirt, one of her eyes wouldn’t open all the way, and she struggled to draw in breath. Not only all that, but she was running low on her own demonic power as well—if she tried to use any to heal herself, she might not make it through the night. As it was… she feared she might not make it through the night anyway, but she had to keep going. Her family would have wanted her to.
It had been an incredibly rough night for the little cat demon. Her family was the last of the Bakeneko clan this far south; all the others of their kind had moved to the northern mountains a hundred years ago. And it wasn’t until now that Airisu saw why: down here, they were plagued by other demons. Their family over the years was slowly picked off, until it was only her, her parents, and her brother and sister. Until now, she’d done her best to try and protect them… but tonight… she’d failed.
Mama… Papa… everyone… I’m sorry… If she could shed tears in this form, she might have been. But all she could do right now was limp forward. At least I’ve lost the pig…
Tumblr media
Or so she thought.
A rustling in the bushes caught her off-guard. Hackles raised (despite the sting), she hissed as the figure of the same ugly boar demon that murdered her family lumbered out of the woods. The boar’s crude scythe weapon was still coated in her family’s blood—and she could see a stain or two on its tusks, as well.
The thing’s laugh was a little more than a snort. “Thought you could get away, eh?! I’ll eat you, just like the rest of your little family!”
Tumblr media
Grief twisted in her gut like a cold steel blade. This was it. She had just a little power left, and if this was going to be her last stand, then she was gonna use it to avenge her family. This boar was going to pay for the lives he’d taken. She summoned up her last nerve, and grew to her full size; flame erupted from her paws to ignite the transformation, her front fangs elongated past her chin, and her body grew to the size of a panther. She wouldn’t have long in this form, so she would have to strike quickly.
She leapt at the boar, one last war cry roaring from her maw. She aimed for its throat, but the boar wasn’t as exhausted as she was. He swung his weapon faster, catching her in the chest. She landed, chest heaving, and attempted to swipe at him with her claws, but she was too off-balance. As she fell, she shrank again, the last of her demonic power used up.
At least I went out fighting, everyone… she thought as she crumpled into the dirt, prepared for death.
It didn’t come. Instead, there was another voice; a human one. Airisu could only keep one eye open, straining to see what was happening:
It was a human woman, strangely dressed but boldly blocking the boar from finishing off the half-dead feline. She held an odd weapon—a rifle? But it looked so different from the ones Airisu had seen before… When the woman fired it, it looked like it spat fire, and the boar demon reeled back, squealing. No rifle Airisu had ever seen had that kind of effect on a demon: his flesh seemed to be sizzling as he tried to get away into the forest.

“Ugly-ass PIG,” The human girl shouted as she cocked the rifle again, “You leave that poor kitty alone!” She fired it again, and the boar demon fizzled into nothing.

Does this woman think I am a mere cat…? Airisu wanted to laugh, but she didn’t have the energy. She was fading fast. Either way… she saved me… even if it was in vain...

“Thought you said you had to save your ‘am-hoe’, and you got and blow some of it on some weak-ass boar demon?”
“Inuyasha, please don’t say it like that—”
“No, let him, it’s hilarious.”
“He does have a bit of a point,” Sango cut in, before either Inuyasha or Luna could spark another fight. “You did say you had to save your ‘shells’, right? It seems a little wasteful if you used some on that boar demon—why did you?”
Luna nodded down at the little bundle in her arms—it was the little cat that the boar demon had been after the night before. She was asleep; Luna had bandaged her injuries and kept her warm and safe all night. As the little cat slept, her breathing had evened out, and Luna figured (what with the demon markings and all) that she would be alright soon.
“This little cat was trying to fight him,” She said softly. “I saved her.”
“Well ya ain’t keeping it—”
“Inuyasha!” Kagome chastised.
“Quit yelling at me!” Inuaysha snapped back, “It ain’t like it’s a house pet! She’s a demon cat like Kilala. She’s alive, so we should leave her be and keep going. She’ll heal by herself.”
“Who died and made you King of the Rock?” Luna grumbled at him.
“Guys, look!” Shippo, sat beside Luna, stretched up to peek at the little bundle. “She’s waking up!”
Quickly but gently, so as not to alarm her, Luna set the cat down and backed away a little. The demon cat’s eyes blinked open, blurred and confused. Luna smiled at her.
“Hey there, kitty,” she said softly. “You’re gonna be okay now…”

She sat up a little, pulling out something wrapped in paper and tied with a string—a handful of little fish from the river. She let the cat sniff it before setting it down in front of her. Cautious, the cat stared at her for a long time before she began to munch on the offering.
“[‘Atta girl,]” Luna chuckled, “You feeling better now?”
The cat paused in eating, blinked, and then disappeared into a cloud of smoke. A little startled, a couple of the group jumped back, but Luna stood where she was.
In the place of the little cat now sat a girl. Short waves of black hair fell around a pair of sleek feline ears and kissed her cheeks. The pupils of her eyes were catlike as well, sitting among irises that resembled a sunset. She wore a short, tattered pink kimono, and had a bit of black fur tucked around her collar. She had the same magenta markings that the cat had; on her cheeks and forehead, as well as the same bushy black tail.
The girl plucked the little cloth she’d been wrapped in as a cat off of her head, smiling brightly as she held it out to Luna.
“Much better!”

There was a beat of confused silence, before the others began to clamor in confusion.
“She had a human form this whole time?!” Inuyasha shouted.
“She was probably weak from fighting, Inuyasha, that could be why she stayed in her smaller form—” Miroku tried to reason with him.
“She did look a little like Kilala does—but she has only one tail.” Sango uttered.
“Then she’s a Bakeneko!” Shippo proclaimed, “They’re not common around here, my dad used to tell me they all went up North!”
Kagome looked suspiciously at her sister, who wasn’t shocked at all by the new information. Luna just stood there, watching her friends start to freak out with a sly little smile on her face. When she caught Kagome’s eye, she quirked an eyebrow, but said nothing as she turned back to the Bakeneko sitting before her. Like she knows something… Kagome mused to herself.
“My name is Airisu,” the Bakeneko said, bowing her head in greeting, “I want to thank you, Miss. That boar demon took the lives of the rest of my family last night, and would have taken mine as well if you hadn’t intervened.”
Luna shrugged. “I was only doing what I thought was right.”
“Well, for that, I owe you my life,” Airisu bowed her head once again, placing her hand over her heart. “I doubt I could ever fully repay you, but to show my gratitude, I will do the same for you. I will follow where you go, and protect you as you have protected me.”
Luna opened her mouth to respond, but her friends were once again surprised:
“That seems rather extreme…” Miroku said.
“You’d think so!” Shippo commented, “but some Bakeneko are really loyal like that! Especially since she saved her life!”
“Really?” Sango wondered.
“Still though…” Kagome chuckled awkwardly.
“Luna doesn’t need her protection,” Inuyasha scoffed, “she’s got that crazy weapon—and if she did need someone else to protect her, she has us!”
“Guys,” Luna waved her hand at her friends, laughing, “Don’t worry about it. I got this.” She extended her hand to the Bakeneko. “Alice, I accept.”
The cat demon pouted. “It’s Airisu!”
“Right, right. Sorry—Airisu,” Luna corrected herself. “Welcome to the team.”
“Hold on, Luna,” Kagome grabbed her sister’s arm, pulling her aside. “Shouldn’t we all talk about this first? I mean… you only just met her?”
“No I didn’t,” Luna said, with that knowing little smile on her face again. “You kidding? I’ve known her all my life. And so have you, Kags.”

It took a second for Kagome to put the pieces together. She glanced back over at the Bakeneko, who had started formally introducing herself to the rest of their friends. The bubbly smile, the black hair, the vibrant orange eyes—it finally clicked. “Wait… you don’t mean that’s—”
“The very same,” Luna smiled fondly as she watched the realization cross her sister’s face. “She’d be pretty young for a demon by now—only 40 or 50 years old—but that’s Alice alright. And I’d trust that cat with my life.”
Tumblr media
“I can’t believe I didn’t recognize her at first,” Kagome said softly.
“Well, it’s also been a few years since you’ve seen her, too,” Luna nudged her sister. “But look, we can’t tell her that we know her in the future. Gotta Marty McFly this, okay?”
“You can’t go two seconds without some pop culture reference, can you?”
“Absolutely not.” Luna laughed.
