‘An Immortal’. An incerdible story of a Red Army officer and then Ukrainian antifascist resistance fighter Savva Karas – he was shot down two times but survived, got 26 severe wounds but each time survived. In 1942 he led Red Army battalions in a failed attempt to liberate Crimea. Was wounded, captured and imprisoned. Tried to escape but captured again – sentenced to death and shot down with other runaways on July 2, 1942. He wasn't killed but wounded, recovered while being under dead bodies, and tried to run again. Was captured again, sent to Mariupol concentration camp and shot down again there. And again survived the execution. He was saved after the execution by antifascist partisans (detachment of metallurgy workers) and joined them. Several times was wounded during partisans’ raids. When Red Army liberated the region he rejoined it. In May 1944 he personally led Red Army regiment attack right on Nazi fortifications in Sevastopol, seized them, being among the first who entered the Nazi occupied city. But was wounded again. Next time he led Red Army foot soldiers storming Lithuanian Shaulyai and was severely wounded again. Hero of the Soviet Union. Since 1946 worked on a milk farm.
