If you can’t pronounce my name right it’s fine. But if you don’t even try that’s what annoys me. I remember in school I’d have teachers call me out in the register as Shakira, sharquisha, shequeena and others that aren’t anywhere near. I’d be there in the nicest way possible saying it’s Shekinah and I’d get yes that’s what I said and not even a glance. I’m sorry what? I think I know how my name sounds. So now when I work with students during my uni job, I tell them if i mispronounce it to correct me because that’s their name and I have no right to change it.
