While I'm on my Old RPGs kick, here's Sharline from the PS2 launch title Evergrace~ Fromsoft's first 3rd person RPG adventure game and the strangest stepping stone between Kings Field and Demon Souls.

Evergrace is such a... peculiar game for me. Like, I'll be up front: I genuinely think the game is awful! And yet... I love Evergrace. Despite failing everything its attempting, as a whole it is fascinatingly enchanting! Like, genuinely, Evergrace is an experience, especially as a kid. Truly more than the sum of its parts in a way I cannot explain.

And also the english voice acting is genuinely amazing levels of bad lol. Poor Sharline sounds like they took a woman off the street and asked her to read lines off a napkin with no direction. Girl's never had an emotion in her life!

Turns out there were a few manga issues and a novelization over in Japan and recently, decades on, I actually got to read them! Thank you @taptroupe for translating this insanely obscure media about this game that time forgot. I had a blast~ and you mentioned in the novelization about paying you in Evergrace drawings so here you go! (though rather than a more detailed translation of the novel, what I'm most curious about is whether the monster card descriptions are different in japanese, since I know the english translation just made up names for everything! no pressure at all to do so, just something that's crossed my mind. Thank you again!)

Go play Evergrace! More people need to experience this game so I can know whether I'm insane or if the game actually is just that charming despite it all!

Finished the Castlevania show and it made me want to draw some Dark Souls fan art but then decided - nah, I’ve done that. What about some Proto-Dark Souls? So I drew Sharline from Evergrace from the PS2.

For those not in the know, Evergrace was a game from FromSoftware where you play as one of two characters, cursed marks are involved, and you’re transported to a strange mostly dead world of an old kingdom who’s lore you can barely piece together from descriptions and you fight by managing your stamina and all your equipment has durability and is super mix-and-match fashionable and the whole world hates your guts and enemies respawn whenever you hit a save point. Except the game sucks ass.

Seriously, playing Evergrace is a goddamn chore. Enemy AI is garbage, ‘stamina management’ isnt like Dark Souls where it’s about rolling out of danger and blocking waiting for an opening, it’s about “you pressed down the attack button really hard cuz this uses the PS2′s weird gimmicky buttons are pressure sensitive thing that EVERYONE forgot about after the Evergrace and The Bouncer and now you have 0 stamina”. Oh, and I think jogging cost stamina too. Basically every fight was “there’s an enemy. time to walk up to them slowly and gingerly tap the attack button so i can move out of the way of their attack with my stamina”. Oh, and ‘puzzles’ like “hope you bought that one piece of armor from the shop that lets you do this one spell because it’s mandatory to pass through here, but it’s FromSoftware so we’re not actually going to TELL you that. Oh you were wearing it and it broke? Cool, better grind up the money to fix it!”

Still, it did manage to give me that weird “trapped in a strange hostile dead world” feeling that Dark Souls would later capitalize on. Another in the list of bad games that still managed to make a lasting impression on me~

so as y'all know, the game awards are only a couple days away, and as you also know, fromsoft is very very likely to make an announcement during it lol

Now obviously it will most likely be an elden ring dlc announcement buuuuuut!!! Buttttttt!!! Hear me out!!! What if we get an evergrace announcement?!?! We did get armored core last year and nobody saw that coming AND on top of that fromsoft dropped the AC6 trailer ON evergrace's anniversary... coincidence??? I think not! (Let a girl dream lmao)

Anyways I wanted to make this little animation before the game awards dropped with the hope that maybe just maybe we'll see something lol
