i watched the meg 2 and it was fun ngl. they had 1 kraken, 3 megs, 15 dinosaurs and a dream. melissanthi mahut got a kassandra reference im pretty sure, jason statham is coparenting a 14 year old with his competitive rival man friend. and this one guy had a murder backpack. jason statham also killed sharks with his bare hands and dived in 25000 meter depth without equipment. I giggled a lot and my jaw was on the floor. If you want silly fun I recommend.

If you haven't seen Under Paris and plan to and also hate spoilers this essay is not for you yet, come back later! Anyway ok so this fucking banger of a movie finally replaced Deep Blue Sea as my favorite shark movie of all time. The whole movie was a statement while also having a good time. Deep Blue sea had a good foundation, script, the famous Samuel L. Jackson rallying speech (So we're not going to fight ANYMORE!), took itself seriously except for well timed LL Cool J scenes, and didn't skimp on graphics or shark time. Also that ending credits song. Perfection. But THIS movie had the foundation, the script, the acting, the graphics, and THAT ENDING THO. The meanings behind the movie itself and why the ending happened the way it did was just *chef's kiss*. DBS has specifically only one human--Dr. McAlester--who is made to be at fault for the makos becoming smart and vengeful, so as long as she died by shark, per test audiences, then the movie ending with all 3 sharks dead is seen as ok. Even though humanity was at fault the sharks still overall need to be bested because they're smart sharks and smart sharks are bad. Under Paris was meant to be a satirical take on French politics, greed, climate change vs human decisions that always make things worse, and ultimately the end was an anti-Hollywood poke at how the sharks always die at the end. Not only do the sharks live, they win. Multiple things happen in the movie that underscore the poor decisions of humans for hundreds of years thus leading to climate change, greed and our own hubris. The WWII shells polluting the Siene lead to destruction generations later. The pollution of the oceans leading to the new species of shark Lilith becomes. The refusal to stop the Olympic triathlon due to money and image taking precedent over human lives. The machinery of politics over humanity. The sharks win because they deserve to take back the world we're ruining, because being deadly and able to quickly parthenogenetically reproduce thanks to our polluting shouldn't be their death sentence, and they win because we can't fix the problems we've created by making more poor decisions. The main characters in the film all keep making poor decisions that lead to either their deaths or the destruction of nature, and that was purposeful. Sharks are vital to the oceans and Lilith would repopulate the waters in no time, fixing the damage we've done to shark populations. Bruh when the explosions started and Paris started crumbling and I realized the sharks were going to win, I screamed. 15/10
Also here is a link to further reading because of course I researched this to make sure I wasn't reading too much into it and backstory is fun 🦈

File: Sharktopus
SCP#: AHC
Code Name: The Sea Chimera
Object Class: Neutralized
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-AHC was neutralized by Interdimensional Group of Interest: The Shark Punching Center. It's believed they did this for the sole purpose of testing out a new SPC to help with their goals. Because of this, no containment procedures could be made.
Description: SCP-AHC is a Weaponized Military Anomaly or a WMA for short. It was created to be the ultimate biological hybrid of an octopus, a squid, and a shark all in one. It possesses the top port of a shark with sharp teeth and the same biological ability to replace its teeth though to a accelerated scale. Its lower body is replaced with squid like tentacles all of which have blade like tips capable to slashing and cutting anything they slash through. The squid tentacles are reinforced with the muscles of octopus tentacles allowing the organism to stand on these tentacles not only using them as weapons, and common tentacles, but also legs as well. SCP-AHC's body as a whole allows has a durable body able to repel the heaviest and sharpest physical attacks. It can also regenerate from bullet wounds and even energy-based attacks quickly making it not only extremely resilient but also a military based Apex Predator.
SCP-AHC was discovered in 2010 when it went on a rampage, killing the resort area of [data expunged], Mexico. Foundation agents were able to pinpoint where SCP-AHC was heading and attacked it before it could hit any densely populated areas. Mobile Task Force Demeter-7 "Chimera Slayers" was created and deployed to contain or if deemed necessary destroy SCP-AHC before it could harm anyone. However, before they could do anything a portal manifested and out came Marine Fighting Team Whale-58 "Nose Strike" form Group of Interest: The Shark Punching Center.
There were able to quickly kill SCP-AHC and return to their reality by (how else?) punching it to death. The Foundation was unable to get any further data on SCP-AHC or the SPC the Shark Punching Center utilized. Though it seems that as an apology the Shark Punching Center later sent a file explaining the SPC and how it killed SCP-AHC. Please see Addendum X-48 for details.
***
Addendum X-48
The following is a file created by the Shark Punching center regarding the SCP-AHC incident.
***
SPC#: ZCH
Code Name: THE SHARKITE PUNISHMENT
Selachian Pugnātorial Capabilities: SPC-ZCH is to be used to help combat the recently growing Sharkite threat. New clans have been forming out of Surface Skarites while more ancient Abyssal Sharkites are coming to the surface. As such, SPC-ZCH was created specifically to be used to combat the vile Skarites and any Deviants they have created.
Project Component: Is a gauntlet designed to release a electromagnetic pulse that is harmful to a Hybrid Flesh Deviant or HFD for short. Upon punching the electric waves burn the skin of the HFD and continue to burn more after every following punch. The way how it works is that there is a piston mechanism within the gauntlet that extends alongside the arm of the fist. Once contact with the punch is made it will slide back into itself and connect the two main components of the electromagnetic pulse device.
This device is made to be of two components that will only activate when physical contact is made from the piston sliding in from the recoil of the punch. The resulting pulse not only fries the flesh of HFD's but adds extra force to the punch ensuring even the strongest of Sharkites cannot defend from a punch.
This last part is not essential but because of the piston it's also able to extend an extra inch forward so the wearer can punch a shark without having to move. Pretty cool, right?
Deployment Record: SPC-ZCH was deployed first in 2010 within Universe Alpha-20, one of the realities where the SCP Foundation resides. For those that don't know, the SCP Foundation is an multiversal variation of the Shark Punching Center, most likely caused by a spelling error by one of the Gods (though if you ask them, they'll say we're the spelling error variant). Unlike our reality which is devoted to preserving the normalcy of the world by getting rid of the deviants of the world known mostly as Sharks. The SCP Foundation is full of various other Deviants that consist of Sharks but many other monstrosities that makes you wonder how the SCP Foundation is still alive or why they never kill their Deviants as often as we do.
Regardless, Alpha-20 in particular is a unique variant of the SCP Foundation in that is has a massive abundance of Deviants that even other SCP Foundations are not familiar with. They seem to believe this is the result of a massive shift in their reality quite similar to ours which we have dubbed "The Ouroboros". As such ORACLE has given the order to use their shark related deviants as test subjects to help with our Shark related issues. Plus doing so will be like helping them so its honestly two flying fish with one stone if you think about it, I'm sure the SCP Foundation won't mind if we punch their sharks for them... yeah...
And SCP-ZCH was one such device used to punch one nasty shark! used it to save a group called Mobile Task Force Demeter-7 "Chimera Slayers". Still don't get why they use guns and nets to attack Deviants, neither are good alternatives for punching but whatever, I guess. They did look pretty mad when the shark died but I'm sure they'll get over it... right?
***
The O5 Council was furious and made their wrath public when the file was made public to the rest of Foundation staff. A Mobile Task Force that can repel the Shark Punching Center is being considered to be made should they interfere with Foundation affairs again.
It was also found out that SCP-AHC was later artificially created by the Navy Division of PENTAGRAM. Those involved were surrendered to the Foundation, originally, they were going to be sent to Mobile Task Force Sigma-66 "Sixteen Tons". However, since their greatest creation was a shark with tenacles it was concluded that they had nothing the Foundation would want. They were all instead assigned to D Class and used for experiments with SCP-AAY.

Meg 2: The Trench (2023) Review
Yep, they made a second one.
Plot: Jonas Taylor leads a research team on an exploratory dive into the deepest depths of the ocean. Their voyage spirals into chaos when a malevolent mining operation threatens their mission and forces them into a high-stakes battle for survival. Pitted against colossal, prehistoric sharks and relentless environmental plunderers, they must outrun, outsmart and outswim their merciless predators.
I was not a big fan of the first Meg movie. It did the typical Hollywood monster movie cliche of focusing too much on the human characters that nobody cared about, and too little on the big shark munching on people. Look, no one is expecting an Oscar-worthy motion picture here. We just want a fun silly summer blockbuster that features bonified action star Jason Statham battling a massive shark and somehow having an actual fighting chance due to nonsensical physics and because Statham is a badass who could fight a minotaur if he had to. With The Meg 2, though I didn't have high hopes, I was still interested as this one is directed by Ben Wheatley who has managed to build quite a strong little filmography in the British indie market, from the highly entertaining warehouse shooter Free Fire to the hallucinogenic A Field In England to challenging the status quo of the class system in High-Rise. As a director, Wheatley evidently enjoys sequestering violent, shortsighted characters in cloistered environments and watching how they claw at each other's throats. So even though at first I scratched my head at Wheatley tackling The Meg sequel, I soon realised that it made perfect sense. A bunch of characters that are ready to be chomped and eaten by a massive shark? Wait, may Ben Wheatley be the answer to that simple request we as movie fans are asking - Statham VS Shark?
Having seen The Meg 2: The Trench I am happy to confirm that it is a better film than its predecessor. However, it is not a good movie. More so the first 2/3 of the movie is a generic underwater survival movie that very much exists to fill up the runtime, but it is frustrating as there are hardly any megalodons in this first 2/3 of the movie. I mean they are there, but they mostly just do a lot of swimming and staring. Lots and lots of swimming, and lots and lots of staring. However coming to the last third of The Meg 2 and it becomes this entirely different beast that is this crazy mad load of bonkers featuring prehistoric sea creatures attacking this beach island, and it is silly, ludicrous and ridiculous and is exactly what I wanted. Heck, there's even a Kraken in this movie! A fricking Kraken!! And most importantly, we get Statham VS Sharks (plural)!! That last 40 or so minutes are super entertaining, and even all the cast become more lively and enjoyable to watch as they run about doing various survival shenanigans. If only that final third was actually the entire movie. All the stuff in the beginning is so unnecessary and in fact, the set-up for all the beach stuff could have been summed up in 5 minutes.
Jason Statham very much is here to cash in a paycheck, but dammit does this man have that badass charm and charisma that he easily carries the cast of this movie alongside Wu Jing, who in a way is the other main character that is there to target the Chinese audience market. Both Statham and Jing and fun to watch, and they both have plenty of opportunities to kick butt. There was also this guy called DJ (played by Page Kennedy) and he was actually hilarious. His one-liners were funny and the ongoing gag with his little survival backpack was actually really entertaining. Again though, this DJ character is in the movie from the start, but he doesn't really show off his true colours until later in the movie when all the boring trench stuff is done with.
Overall I enjoyed The Meg 2 more than I expected, but that enjoyment primarily came from the last part of the movie, where the movie finally embraces what it was selling to us in the trailers. Also, this now makes me wonder with all the massive sea monsters at the end of this movie, are we leading up to the inevitable crossovers of Megalodon VS Godzilla VS Kong? Look, all of those are owned by Warner Bros, so it's surely only a matter of time. As for The Meg 2: The Trench, it's a forgettable yet partially enjoyable summer blockbuster, yet the one thing I won't forget is Jason Statham muttering in his grizzly voice "it's a deviated septum".
Overall score: 5/10
