Do you know any Naruhina fanfic where they are friends and benefit
Yep! One of my favorite tropes, so I've collected quite a list now!
Friends with Benefits NaruHina
These are ones I'm not sure if I've recommended before:
"Cruel Winter" by madglow - Rated E, Canon-Divergent AU, Multi-chapter, Ongoing. Hinata confessed to Naruto during the Rinne-Festival and had her heartbroken. Eight years later they suddenly find themselves entangled in a torrid dance. Angst warning.
"Under the Sheets" by Nilaf - Rated M, Modern AU, Multi-chapter, Complete. We really shouldn't be doing this. We're roommates, and things can get complicated...
"Something More" by blossomdreams -Rated M, Modern AU, One-shot. Naruto and Hinata have a friends with benefits agreement that works well for both of them or so they thought.
"Friends with Benefits" from "Tales of the Seventh Hokage and the Byakugan Hime" by @thestrangeryoucanget - Rated E, Modern AU, One-shot. Naruto was having a hot debate with his consciousness.
"friends with benefits au" by @jadeandonyx - Rated M, College AU, One-shot. It all started out innocently. So, so innocently.
This next one is crazy lol -
"The First" by Emerald-Words - Rated M, Modern AU, One-shot. She was his first everything and yet, at the time, they were just friends. His curiostiy ruined them. Ruined her. But was it all hopeless?
Here are the ones I know I've recommended in the past!
“Hinata (Sweet)” from “Chicken Ramen for the Pervert’s Soul” by @wickermayne - Rated E, A/B/O AU, One-shot. They had an arrangement. Hinata would take care of Naruto’s ruts and Naruto would take care of Hinata’s heats. As if it were something as clinical as that…just treatment. Yeah right.
“Limited Strings Attached” by @nonawaaa - Rated E, Canon-Divergent, Two-shot. Playing in the field of love, friendship and sex. Pure sex, with limited strings attached.
“Territorial” by @bunny-hoodlum - Rated M, High school AU, Multi-chapter, Complete.  When Hinata takes advantage of Naruto’s desperation for love, they’re both a little too much for the other to handle. Angst warning.
“A Special Friend” by agitosgirl - Rated E, Canon-divergent AU, One-shot. Yes, quiet, humble, heiress Hinata Hyuga and loudmouth hero Naruto Uzumaki were friends with benefits. (This one inspired my “Nightdreams” fic)
“Friends with benefits” by @schnikschnack - Rated T, Modern AU, Multi-chapter, ongoing.  When Hinata notices that her coworker lacks his usual energy, he confides that he just lost his sex buddy.  So Hinata offers to help. A small angst warning.
“Friends with Benefits” by @sharigone - Rated M, Canon-Divergent AU, Short One-shot. It started off with something that would protect them both from getting hurt and ended up being something more. What were they to begin with?
“if this is love (why does it hurt?)” by ClairvoyantDreamer1011 - Rated M, Friends with benefits Canon-Divergent, Multi-chapter, Incomplete. Hinata knew many things about Naruto Uzumaki. She knew that his heated glances meant ‘I want you’; that lingering touches whispered ‘please’, and that the sight of his back to her screamed 'leave’. But she couldn’t tell you what they were to each other for the life of her. Angst warning.
Here's the one I wrote:
“Nightdreams” - Rated E, Canon-Divergent, Multi-chapter, Complete. Friends with benefits; Naruto and Hinata find comfort in each other after the war.
Happy reading! If anyone knows of more, please add on!

Bleachers Chapter 9: Packing Up
The best thing about the play being done is having more time to do my classwork. Hinata and I did nothing but cram for our final exams and we did well on them. The semester was finally coming to an end and just in time too. The university was shut down due to a blizzard so our winter break would be longer. I’ll be the first to admit that I am nervous and maybe slightly terrified of meeting Hinata’s dad. Hiashi Hyuga, CEO of the leading contact lens company in ten different countries including Japan, my girlfriend’s intimidating father.
Hell, I’ll be lucky if I make it back to university alive and in one piece.  Hinata, of course, think I’m being silly for being so anxious as we packed our bags. With her by my side, I can do anything, including this.  I mean, I’m only going to spend the rest of my life with her. Makes sense that I spend time with her family. She did warn me about her nosy little sister so I prepared to be bombarded with questions.  From the way Hinata makes it sound, her family is very traditional but also loving at the same time. A lot has changed over the years.
“Father said there will be a chauffeur waiting for us when we get off the train. He will be holding up a sign and everything.” Hinata said as I put our luggage above us, “And Hanabi is making her sticky buns, oh Naruto, you’ll love them.”
“What should I expect when walking in there?”
Hinata scooted over so I could sit next to her and held my hands in her’s, “Screaming from Hanabi and lots of pale eyes. Father will be polite and offer his hand for you to shake and ask about our travels then he will ask Nikita to show us to our room and have her tell us the ‘rules’ and we’d rest up until dinner time.”
“‘Rules?’” I smirked and trailed my fingers along her arm, “Oh, what? I can’t ravage you and make you make those sweet little noises?”
Her face completely reddened as it always did when I say things like that, “Precisely! I-I know you like breaking rules so we’ll have to be really quiet.”
“I’m starting to think I’m a bad influence on you, making a good girl want to break rules. Sounds pretty troublesome to me.” I kissed the spot behind her ear.
“Naruto! Stop teasing me!”
I laughed and kissed her pouty lips, “I’ll behave myself, I promise.”
She beamed and snuggled against me as we made our way to her home. We’d be out there until January so about a month and half. I’d have to go find some time to go see Jiraiya, I knew he’d be back for a couple of days before he goes on his tour in Europe. I didn’t think being a best-selling author would require a tour but I guess the rest of the world sees him as a rockstar or something.
As promised, our chauffeur was waiting for us and we climbed in the back of some fancy car. We got a lot of looks from people but I guess Hinata is used to this kind of thing even though she looked a little uncomfortable by all the eyes on her. Maybe that’s why she liked our university so much, away from all the formalities. She could just breathe and be herself. Our chauffeur was all business, he made small talk and took us safely to Hinata’s house. Or should I say mansion, that place is huge.
Big black gates opened up and the house had columns and perfectly cut grass and huge stained glass doors. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life, I was in complete awe. Hinata took my hand as we got out of the car and a couple servants came out to take our bags while we walked up the steps to her front door. What the hell am I doing here? I’ve never felt so out of place but I’d do it this for her. I’d do anything for her. I swallowed any nervousness I had in me and stepped inside of her home.
“We’re home.” Hinata called out.
I heard rapid steps and soon enough, out came Hinata’s little sister and she jumped to hug her sister. Wow, they really look alike.
“Oh, sis! You’ve been gone far too long!” Hanabi squeezed Hinata tightly, “But I forgive you, you did bring a boy home after all.”
“Naruto Uzumaki.” I smiled and shook Hanabi’s hand.
“The Naruto Uzumaki? Wow! I thought I’d never see the day where she’d bring you home.” Hanabi gaped, “I mean I’ve been hearing your name for as long as I can remember--”
“Hanabi!”
“Oh, I’m just kidding! Don’t faint now!”
Then out came a tall figure with long hair, tied into a ponytail and pale, stoic eyes. Hiashi Hyuga.
“Father!” Hinata beamed and walked over to give him a hug, “This is Naruto.”
I put on my “winner” smile and shook his hand, making sure I had an appropriate grip, “Nice to meet you, sir.”
“Likewise.” Hiashi shook my hand and gave me a quick nod, “I look forward to having dinner with the both of you tonight. If you don’t mind, I’ll have Nikita show you to your room while I take care of a few things.”
“Thank you, I look forward to dinner too.”
Hinata gave me a reassuring smile and took my hand in her’s again as we followed Nikita through the long hallway.
“Did I do okay?”
“You did great.” she kissed the back of my hand.
“Alright you two. Dinner is at five. Mr. Hyuga wants me to have a talk with you both since it has been brought to his attention that you would be sharing a room during your stay here.”
Oh, boy.
“Mr. Hyuga is well aware that both of you are adults and may want to do… adult things.” Nikita cleared her throat, “He insists that  you both keep note that there are many people that live here and that you’d be respectful of that.”
“I think we get it, Nikita.” Hinata blushed, “Sorry Father put you up to this.”
Nikita shook her head and beamed, “I’ll let you two get settled before dinner.”
“Is that just a nice way of your dad telling us to not fool around?” I snickered.
Hinata nodded and did her best not to laugh, “A very nice way.”
I watched Hinata put away some of her belongings and I took the time to look at the pictures in her room. There were plenty of  herself and Neji and sister. Neji was in South Korea in schooling still. Then my eyes focused on a picture of Hinata when she was little and a woman I assumed to be her mother.
“You look like her.” I picked up the frame.
“Father tells me that all the time.” Hinata made her way to me and looked at the picture longingly, “She’s more beautiful, in my opinion.”
“What… happened to her?” I asked warily.
“It was a long time ago.” she began, “Father had a rival, the Nekata family. They also were a pretty big contact brand.”
“Yeah, I remember hearing about them when we were kids.”
“Well, Father and Hiroshi Nekata have been at each other’s throats for years. Mother had enough and she told Father to make peace with Hiroshi. Father didn’t like it at first but he wanted to try, for her.” Hinata cleared her throat, “So Father reached out to Hiroshi for a meeting and Hiroshi seemed all ears for it. They agreed to meet at the bistro over by Nekata Enterprise’s building. But then it… happened. On their way there a car sped past the light and hit her head on. Father was the only one who made it.”
“That’s terrible.” I set the frame down and pulled Hinata in my arms.
“Later on Hiroshi Nekata was sentenced to life in prison. He hired men to kill Father but it was Mother who got the short of the stick. Father will never forgive himself for it.”
“It’s no wonder why Takei got pulled from our school.” I thought out loud, “We never really knew much about that.”
“Nobody really knows what happened with the Nekata family. After the sentence, their empire fell apart and Father’s rose to the top.” she squeezed me a little, “I just wish Mother never had to go through something like that.”
“Or even you for that fact, Hinata you were barely eight when that happened.” I held her face in my hands, “I couldn’t imagine going through the things you did and still ending up as wonderful as you.”
Her pearlish eyes were glossy as if she wanted to cry. I pressed a firm kiss on her forehead and pulled her close to me again.
“Even though I miss her and wish she is here, the pain isn’t unbearable because I know she sent me you.”
I could just melt, I fell for her again a thousand times over.
Nikita loudly cleared her throat when she walked to Hinata’s door frame, “Dinner is ready.”
Hinata separated herself from me and bowed politely, “Oh, yes. We’ll be there shortly.”
The Hyuga dining room looks like something that belonged in one of those house decorating magazines I see Sakura and Ino read. Even a guy like me knew it was nicely decorated. I saw down beside Hinata while her father said a short prayer and soon after the several people came into the room serving our plates and fillings our glasses with water. The food smelled amazing, not like anything Old Teuchi makes, but something about it smelled like home. We had a small bowl of miso soup and the main dish was seared steak. Jiraiya would be in heaven over this. Dinner was silent at first, I was afraid to say anything stupid and Hiashi would get the wrong impression of me so I waited for him to speak first instead.  He was awfully intimidating, he studied my every move with his cold eyes.
“What are you in school for, Naruto.”
I gulped and set my fork down, “General education at first but then Hinata really helped me find my passion and I think I’m heading towards the psychology field, maybe I’ll get into motivational speaking.”
“Quite admirable.” Hiashi poured himself a small glass of sake, “Hinata’s mother was a writer, she loved writing books about how to be your best self and ways to achieve true success. She was on her way to becoming a real best-selling author before her untimely death. I’m sure Hinata has told you about it.”
“Yes, she has. I’m sorry about your wife.”
“It wasn’t your doing, Naruto. That bastard Hiroshi is paying for what he did to her.”
“Father.” Hanabi grabbed his wrist.
“Right.” Hiashi exhaled, “In more pressing matters, what are your intentions with my daughter?”
Here come the big guns. Hinata told me that honesty works best with Hiashi, he can always detect insincerity.
“Truthfully,” I sipped on my water, “I want to be the best person I can be for Hinata. I’m… in love with her.”
I looked over at her and she smiled at me with her usual blush spread across her cheeks.
“Obviously you know that she is my daughter and I own quite a wealthy business. Your interests with my daughter have nothing to do with money, am I correct?”
“Of course. Wealthy or not, my feelings for Hinata will never change. Besides Jiraiya, when I think about people who have always been a constant in my life, she comes to mind.”
“You’re the reason I’m this strong.” Hinata placed her hand on my knee and gave it a squeeze.
Hiashi looked back and forth between us and took another gulp of his sake, “I know that look.”
“What look?” I blinked and looked in his direction.
“You look at my daughter as if she placed all the stars in the sky. The same way I looked at her mother. I believe you, Naruto.” he stood up and I followed suit.
I shook his hand, “I will never hurt her, that’s a promise.”
“Oh, I know you won’t. The consequences aren’t pleasant.”
“Father!” Hinata gasped.
“Sorry, don’t mind me.” Hiashi shook his head and went back to his seat.
That went way better than I thought it would. Hinata was right about him being a big softie in the inside. I really did have nothing to worry about. Hanabi made homemade sticky buns and begged Hinata and I to try it before going to bed. I’ll admit that it was sweet but it was pretty good.  Tomorrow, Hinata wanted to show me her botanical garden and I thought that would be the perfect time to give her present. I’ve thought long and hard about what would be the perfect gift but I think I really nailed it and I couldn’t wait to see her face when she sees it.
Hinata’s bed was way more comfier than the beds back at the university. It was soft and formed around us like a warm hug.  Hinata is home to me though so I didn’t really mind the difference between the mattresses but this was really amazing. All I remembered before falling asleep was her wrapping her arms around my neck and pulling my head down so I could hear her heartbeat. The most soothing sound I’ll ever know.

She thinks you are super cool!! Your so calm and serious asks you how you stay so serious all the time. Since you're a new hashira she tried to introduce you to people. You finished your training that quickly!?"
Shinobu
Tumblr media
Interested in you. She didn't think much of you until she saw you training against Sanemi. You were able to knock him out in one hit. She thought at first you had cheated in some way she didn't know how she saw the whole thing but it's no way a brand new hashira could beat someone like Sanemi with so little effort. Very suspicious of you at first but after she got to know you she actually enjoyed your company.
Giyuu
Tumblr media
The moment you became a hashira you stuck out to him. He didn't know why you just did. You two always had respect for each other. He's very impressed by your fighting skills. You both train a lot together. While you beat him every time he still enjoys training with you. He enjoys your company and you enjoy his.
Muichiro
Tumblr media
He thought your strength was impressive. He remembers your calm voice. He doesn't know why he remembers that out of all things but he does. He likes your calm personality he thinks you are very relaxing to talk to. He's fallen asleep a couple of times listening to your voice.
Rengoku

Thinks everything about you is impressive the way you stay so calm under stressful situations he admires how humble you are and how hard working you are. Asks a lot of questions about your training and how you got so strong.
Sanemi
Tumblr media
Didn't like you at first. He thought you were trying to show off or something with how strong you were. But after he got to know you he found out you weren't that bad. He liked how humble you were. You are the only person he felt safe around. Like he didn't have to have his guard up all the time.
Obanai
Tumblr media
He finds you relaxing to talk to. He trains with you a lot. Asks a lot of questions about how you trained and who trained you and how you got so strong. Has a lot of respect for you.

Summary:  “ Her endless pools reflected the moon in the most wonderful way.  In some weird way, I felt connected to Hinata and almost protective over her.  I wanted things to go her way and I’d do my hardest to help.” College AU. Rating changed to M, this chapter is citrusy (*warning*)
Pairing: Naruhina
Bleachers Chapter 7: Life is so Much Better With You
I haven’t stopped telling her that I love her ever since that night. Inside I felt whole knowing that she would always be a part of me which only made me believe that I’ve always loved Hinata but me being me, couldn’t figure it out when it was right there in front of me.  It explained my protectiveness over her since we were kids, how I somehow am softer around her, and how I knew exactly what to say to keep her spirits up.
Two months have passed since that night and I didn’t think I could possibly be happier and I am. Our friends did tease us but it didn’t bother us one bit. Hinata came out of her shell more and I loved every bit of her quirks and charms. For my birthday she surprised me by taking me to some fancy ramen restaurant where you can really customize your ramen and then she knitted me a scarf to wear since the cold weather seriously kicked in. I don’t know where she found the time to do something like that for me, she said she knitted it when I had class but that wasn’t the answer I was looking for. She did it because she loves me and that’s the only answer I’ll ever need.
The play is only a day a way and Miss Fuyu is panicking. She had her assistant busy with the phone and arranging hotels for the special guests to stay while she fussed over the final alterations in all of the outfits we’d be wearing. Hinata and I were nervous, this was her big shot and we couldn’t slip up.  We had all our lines memorized and we had no problem in doing the kiss but this performance had to be the best. This final day of rehearsal did take longer than regular rehearsals because we had to act like the play was actually happening. Sai and the rest of the art department did a great job with the set, it almost looked real. Going through the motions gave everybody a good clue on how to use the props and where to be at what time.
“We’ll have a quick rehearsal before showtime, make sure drink plenty of water and get plenty of rest.” Miss Fuyu clapped her hands together, “This will be amazing!”
“I thought she’d never let us go.” Hinata mumbled as she took my hand in her’s, “This thing is gonna be really big, huh.”
“Seems like it.” and I watched her face as she got lost in her thoughts like she sometimes did, “Don’t be nervous, you’ll be great.”
“We only get one shot at this, Naruto. I can’t help but--”
“But nothing.” I silenced her thoughts, “Nobody can play this part as good as you.”
She gave me that shy smile and squeezed my hand.
“I’m at your place tonight, right?”
She nodded her head, “Sakura said she’d be staying over at your place, it’s their anniversary.”
I did an “o” face, I knew all too well what that meant. Like they didn’t do it enough.
“I’ll be there after class.” I raised her hands up to my lips to kiss them, “I love you.”
Her smile grew at her three favorite words, “I love you too.”
Class dragged on and on but thank goodness we had a test today so I could get out early. Thanks to Hinata, that was an easy pass. Her study tips really are effective. I got to her room as quick as I can, ignoring the glances that usually came from the nosy girls in the dorm. I closed the door behind me and wordlessly took off my clothes and put on sweatpants I keep here. Hinata was in her bathroom brushing her teeth and  she came out not too long after.  Sometimes it got really hard to cuddle up next to her when the only thing she’d be wearing is an oversized shirt and panties. I knew she didn’t purposely try to turn me on but the need to touch her was almost unbearable.  She felt it too, sometimes when we’d kiss and it got a little hot she would break away. It was hard not to keep that little moan she’d make in my head. I still wanted things to be perfect for her, I couldn’t just think with my nuts.
“How was your test?” she blushed, I was probably gawking at her.
“Easy, I had almost everything memorized.” I joined her in her bed.
“I knew you’d do well.” I felt her bury her face in the crook of my neck.
That’s the thing about her, she never stopped believing in me. Hinata rooted for me when nobody else would, she always did. Having somebody like that by my side was wonderful. We are always encouraging each other, ever since we were kids. Who knew we’d end up like this years later. Looking at her, I saw my entire life right in front of me. A life without emptiness, sadness, and pain.  A life filled with hope and love.  Nothing could get better than that.
“I have you to thank for it.”
I felt her laugh into my neck before she pulled away and played with the hair on the nape of my neck, “Quit it, you passed because you’re smart.”
My lips curled upwards as I ran my fingers up and down her back, “I could spend forever being grateful for a girl like you, Hinata.”
Her cheeks reddened instantly as she tried to figure out what to say. Knowing I could make her all flustered was a little entertaining since it was such an easy thing to do. No matter how many times I do it, it catches her off guard.
“I always ask myself, ‘How did I ever get so lucky to ever know Naruto Uzumaki?’ and I had to tell myself that it isn’t luck.” she dragged her thumb across my jaw, her brows furrowing in concentration, “There is no Hinata Hyuga without Naruto. Not in any world.”
I swear she will be the death of me.
“And there is no Naruto Uzumaki without Hinata.” I finished, pressing my lips against her’s.
Undeniably, wholeheartedly we are two parts to one soul. Cliches at its best. I wanted to be so close to her it almost hurt. Our lips moved against each other rhythmically, our hands tangled in each other’s hair. Her leg wrapped around me, pressing her body against mine. I could curse myself for getting so hard when we both knew it couldn’t go any further than just light touching and kissing.  I felt her breath hitch when my hardness pressed against her and I quickly pulled away.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to freak you out.” I apologized, moving my hand down to cover myself.
“No, it’s not that.” she bit her lip, “It just surprised me is all.”
“Damn it! It’s just so hard when you look so beautiful and you say things that make my heart race--” I rambled.
“No,” she interrupted, “It surprised me because… it felt… nice.”
Now I was the one blushing.
“Really?”
She nodded shyly, “I know how important it is to you that it’s perfect and I’ll admit that I want that too.”
“And it will be, I promise.”
“There will be a little pain, I don’t want you to worry.” she warned me, “How would you make love to me, Naruto?”
I gulped ran my hand up her thigh, admiring its softness, “Well, I’d kiss you everywhere. Your lips all the way down to your breasts. And then I’d tell you how much I love you.”
She smiled, her eyes closing and my hand continuing to stroke her soft skin.
“I’d take your shirt off first and then your bra. I’d kiss your breasts and touch them for the first time.” my hand nearing her panties, her breath becoming shaky.
“What else?” she whispered.
“Then I’d take off your bottoms and kiss down your breast all the way down your belly.” I slid my hand down her panties, “Kiss your thighs and move closer and closer to where you want me most.”
She sighed and placed her hand over mine, guiding me.
“I’d taste you and feel you squirm because you like the way it feels.” I found her most sensitive place and began to softly stroke it with my index finger.
She gasped and let out that little moan that drove me crazy.
“And before it becomes too much for you, I kiss you again. This time from your belly back up to your neck. Then I’d undress and I’d already be hard because it would be hard not to be. After all, I am faced with the most beautiful body and soul.”
I moved a little more down to stroke her womanhood and was pleasantly surprised to feel her already becoming wet.
“Naruto..” she breathed out, her lips peppering my neck with kisses.
“I’d look into your eyes and slowly press myself into you, waiting for it to feel good for you.” I slipped a finger inside of her opening, “I’d keep going slow until you tell me that it’s feeling good.”
She bit her lip as I moved my finger inside of her and when she looked up at me and nodded her head, I stuck in another finger.
“And when it does feel good, I quicken my pace and watch you moan, my hands on your hips and your legs wrapped around me.” I massaged along her walls, a moan escaped her lips, “You’d say my name.”
“Naruto…” she moaned into my neck and rocked her hips against my hand.
“I’d keep going at my pace until we both can’t take it anymore. I’ll always put you first, I wait for you to cum before I do. And when we do, it’s single handedly the most wonderful feeling we’ve ever felt before.”
She let out another moan before she stopped my hand, “Stop.”
“Did I hurt you?” I looked at her worriedly, “I didn’t mean to.”
“No, I don’t want to finish until that special night.” she kissed me, “I want that feeling with you.”
I smiled and kissed her again, pulling her bottom lip between mine, “We’ll wait then.”
She nodded and shimmied her panties back on, “If our night is anything close to as beautiful as you described it, I know it’ll be as perfect as we want it to be.”
My arms wrapped tightly around her waist, “Nothing but the best for you.”
With that, we turned off the lights and listened to each other’s breathing until it lulled us to sleep.

Bleachers Chapter One: Cross My Heart and Hope to Die
This was strange, even for her.  Usually when I’m just walking around the dorms finding something to do, her door is always open and she’s either reading something or watching a television show.  This time she was not there, she wasn’t anywhere to be found.  I asked Sakura where she could’ve been since they are roommates after all and didn’t have a clue either. She thought maybe she was at a study group session or decided to take a walk.
It was late now and the fall weather was wintry at night, she shouldn’t be out like this where she could get sick or even worse. It amused Sakura that I felt so worried about Hinata since we hardly exchanged words and when we did, she’d get all red in the face and that made it really hard to get to know her. But we did have a few classes together and despite how timid she is, I know that she is a good person. It is perfectly normal for me to want to know if she’s okay.
That’s when I decided that I’d find her myself. A girl like her couldn’t and shouldn’t be out in the cold all by herself. I’d pummel anybody who dared trying to take advantage of her.  My blood boiled at the thought. I looked everywhere: the library, cafeteria, the student circle, and she was nowhere to be found.  So I tried to think a bit harder about where she would be and it clicked.
I ran all the way to the football stadium and there she was, cold and shivering, on the bleachers.
“Hinata!” I yelled out to her.
She heard me and hastily wiped her face as I approached her, putting my jacket around her shoulders. I know I’m not the smartest, but I knew she was crying out here.  Her eyes were so puffy and red, I wanted to hurt whoever did this to her. Hinata wouldn’t even hurt a fly.
“I’ve been looking all over for you, why aren’t you with Sakura?” I squatted down to meet her eyes.
“I didn’t mean to make you worry.” she shook her head and ran her hands up and down her arms.
“No, don’t worry about that.  Why are you out here anyways?”
“It’s nothing.”
“It’s not nothing. I can tell you’ve been crying.”
“Naruto-”
“Hinata.” I interrupted, “I know I’m not the best at these things but you know you can talk to me.”
“It’s just..” she tried to put her words together.
I did my best to not interrupt her and let her vent.  To be quite honest this would be the longest conversation we’ve had.
“I don’t think I can come back next school year.” she sniffled.
“What makes you say that?”
“I didn’t get any of the scholarships I applied for and I can’t pay this tuition.  Father would kill me if I got a loan. I’m so stupid, this is stupid!”
“Are you kidding me?! You’re the smartest girl I know.”
“You’re just being nice.” she laughed dejectedly.
“Stop that. Who broke the university record when they joined the mathletes?”
“Me.” she shrugged.
“And who got me that passing grade on the test on thermodynamics?” I held her by her shoulders, “I would’ve failed the class if I didn’t pass that test.”
I got a real smile as she wiped away the remaining of her tears, “But all of that was for nothing. I don’t know what I’ll do.”
I thought for a little bit.  Someone as smart as Hinata deserved to be able to continue going to university.  And I’d be damned if I didn’t try to help her find a way.
“Y’know Sai is the prop artist for the theatre department and he told me that they’re holding auditions in a couple of days for some huge play at the end of the semester.  Apparently some big people in showbiz are gonna be there and are offering scholarships if the play does well.”
“Me? In a play? I’m hardly able to raise my voice loud enough to be heard. Besides look at me.”
“I am.”
Then she met my eyes finally. Her endless pools reflected the moon in the most wonderful way.  In some weird way, I felt connected to Hinata and almost protective over her.  I wanted things to go her way and I’d do my hardest to help.
“I’ll audition too, we’re in this together. Hell, you’d get more noticed if we tried for the lead!”
She mumbled something that I couldn’t understand so I asked her to repeat herself.
“I said I’ll do it.”
I felt the corners of my lips curl upwards and I hopped straight up, throwing my fist in the air.
“Awesome! I’ll text Sai about it tonight.” I held my hand out to her, “Let me get you back to Sakura before she calls school security to find you.”
She got red in the face as she took my hand and stood up, “That’s probably a good idea.”
We enjoyed the silence during our trek back to her dorm room but we did talk a little bit and I even managed to squeeze in a time to go over the lines with her.  It didn’t feel like I was walking with a stranger at all, Hinata and I have known each other since we were little but never really had the chance to get to know each other outside of academics.  She was shy and I was a troublemaker, so I’m really excited to get to know an old school friend on another level.
When we approached her room door she took off my jacket and neatly folded it back into my arms. I learned against the doorway, placing the jacket on my shoulder and she got red in the face again. God, I hope she isn’t catching a fever for being out in the cold so long.
“Thank you for tonight.” she pressed her lips together.
“What are friends for, right?” I grinned my usual grin.
She smiled a little and nodded and unlocked her door, “We’ll meet tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow.” I promised, holding out my pinky.
She tilted her head slightly and reluctantly intertwined her pinky with mine before letting go and walking inside.
Then it hit me that I’d be auditioning for a play with Hinata, and if we got it, I’d have relentless teasing from the guys.  I groaned at the thought but she needed my help and I’m not the one to go back on my word.  Let the jokes begin.

Bleachers Chapter 8: Showtime
Hinata and I let all our professors know about our play tonight and they were kind enough to give us our assignments early so we could work on it before the next school week begins. We spent nearly the entire day in the theatre going through the play like we are performing. The alterations for our costumes were finished and it fit perfectly. It was all becoming very real and I was a little bit nervous myself. Hinata fumbled between her words just a little during the rehearsal but it wasn’t too noticeable. I’ll have to find a way to calm her nerves before the show starts so she can do her best.
I just know she will get this scholarship.  We’ve worked so hard for this and there’s just no way these sponsors wouldn’t see how brilliant she is. Miss Fuyu dismissed us for an hour long break so Hinata and I went to a cafe around the corner. I ordered myself a latte and Hinata just wanted hot chocolate, after we got our orders we sat in a little booth and enjoyed our drinks.
“You know you’ll do great, right?”
“I don’t know… I messed up a lot with that seen with Chiro.” she held her cup between her hands.
“You’re just nervous, you know this play like nobody else.” I sipped on my drink, “I’ll be right there rooting you on just like you always do for me.”
She rested her head on my shoulder and gave me her sweet smile, “That makes me feel better.”
“Whenever you feel in doubt just look at me and everything will be okay.”
“Always.” she brought her cup to her lips.
After our break, rehearsal went better and Miss Fuyu seemed to be quite impressed.
“With a performance like that, these sponsors would be damned to not give you these scholarships.” she said, her voice thick with emotion, “Alright drink plenty of water and just stay close by while set up prepares everything. Show time is in an hour and a half.”
“All the girls said they’d come see us perform, maybe we’ll spot them in the crowd.” Hinata followed me behind backstage.
“Yeah, and I know the guys are coming. They have to be a witness to what they believe will be my most embarrassing moment.” I groaned a little.
“Little do they know is that your character is the most handsome and most valiant. I’d be surprised if all the didn’t girls drool over you after the play.”
“I’d fight them all off. I’ve got eyes for only one girl.” I picked her up and spun her around.
She giggled and got on her tiptoes to kiss my cheek after I placed her back on the ground. We spent the rest of our free time hanging out with everybody and we all told stories about how we ended up doing this play.  A lot of these people had a real passion for acting, Hinata and I were the only rookies doing it just because of a scholarship. It kinda made me feel a little guilty but I pushed it all aside because I had to keep my eyes on the gold.  This scholarship would give Hinata her future and that’s all that mattered to me.
When an hour passed, Miss Fuyu was backstage with us thanking all of us for our hard work and wishing us luck.  With that, it was a flurry of people putting on costumes, microphone checks, lighting checks, and people setting up for the first scene.  I could hear people filling in the seats and my heart pounding. This is it. The moment we’ve been waiting for.
I kissed Hinata’s hand as we got in the center of the stage and faced each other for our very first soon.
“Remember to breathe.” I reminded her.
“Okay.” she smiled.
In front of the curtain, Miss Fuyu gave the audience an introduction and introduced the sponsors. There was an applause before Miss Fuyu walked behind the curtain and the curtain started to rise, exposing Hinata and I.
The first scene was the night of our character’s wedding.  Hinata and I swayed to the soft music playing in our little chapel, our characters enjoying their first moments of solitude of being a married couple. I spun Hinata around and dipped her, earning a tiny laugh.
“To the first of many nights.” I said my first line.
“Enough to last forever.” Hinata answered, her face nearing mine.
We were interrupted by Chiro, who’s character is Fitz.  He told me that there was something that required my immediate attention and that I had to leave by midnight.  Penelope and Odysseus were saddened that their first night as a married character would come to an end. Hinata formed some tears for her character as I packed away clothes. Penelope knew that it would be a long time until her husband would return to her but he promised he would come back to her.
“When the sun sets, I’ll come back to you with a box of chocolates and the prettiest rose.” I shut the suitcase and wiped away a tear with my thumb, “And our happily ever after will truly begin.”
“And I’ll wait for every sunset for you to come back to me.” Hinata sniffled wiping away a few more of her fake tears.
I pressed a kissed on her forehead before I picked up the suitcase and paced off the stage.  The curtains closed and the sets were quickly changed while Hinata and I changed into our next  costumes. I wouldn’t come back on stage for another couple of scenes so I stayed far enough to not be seen by the audience but close enough to be seen by Hinata. Her character would be cooking (more like pretending to be cooking) when the scene began so a prop artist handed Hinata what she needed before the curtains rose again.
Penelope hummed as she stirred the pot on the stove, upon hearing a knock on the door she set the spoon down and answered it. Fitz came and handed Penelope that contained a letter from Odysseus.
“Dear, Penny. It seems like I’m gonna be deployed to fight for our country. I didn’t think this would happen but here we are. I said I would come back to you when the sun sets and I intend to keep that promise. Beloved, please keep me in your thoughts as you will be in mine. I love you to the moon and back. Odysseus.” Hinata read, her voice wavering, “When will he be back?”
“He’s gonna be on the front lines so I don’t know.”
“If he got deployed, why didn’t you or Quinn for that matter?!” Hinata threw the letter and paced around the makeshift kitchen.
“You know Odysseus is the best fighter, they wanted him. Thought he’d make a big difference and inspire the new recruits.”
“It isn’t fair.”
“You know, I’ve always promised to take care of you if something happened to Odysseus.” Chiro (Fitz) stepped closer to Hinata.
“As far as I’m concerned, my husband is alive and he will comeback to me.” Hinata picked up the letter and shook it in front of his face, “I’ll do just fine on my own until he returns, Fitz, go.”
The scene ended and Hinata walked off the stage since the next scene didn’t involve her. I whispered out a compliment to her and held her hand as we watched the next scene together. Fitz and Quinn were at a local bar talking about Odysseus being deployed. Those two were supposedly his best friends but wished for his death all for a chance to have Penelope’s hand in marriage. They argued and cracked a few jokes, earning a few laughs from the audience.  The scene ended on Fitz and Quinn shaking hands and saying “may the best man win” before clinking their bottles of beers together. The next scene up was my scene. I had to lay in a cot and toss and turn in my “sleep”.  Some of the set guys put on the fog machine and out walked Hinata wearing a white nightgown. I rubbed my eyes and even pinched myself.
“Penny? Is that really you?”
She nodded and pulled me into her embrace.
“Oh, I’m so sorry that they made me leave.”
“You’ve never left me. I’m right here remember?” she pointed at my heart, “No distance could ever take that away.”
“I have to go now. Remember what you said.” she held my face in her hands.
“Always.”
The fog intensified covering us as she planted a feathery light kiss on my lips before she ghosted and I was back in my cot.
“Penny… Penny…” I mumbled in my sleep.
The scene ended and there was a short applause as the curtains the closed. Hinata was already changed into her next outfit and she hugged me tightly. The next scene would be her monologue and I knew that was the thing she was most worried about. This would be the scene that would determine whether she got the scholarship and that was a lot on her shoulders.
“You’ll do amazing, just look at me.” I kissed her hands before quickly leaving the stage.
The curtains finally opened with the spotlight on her.  Her eyes squinted at such the bright light and she paced herself in a small circle to distract her eyes from the glare. C’mon, Hinata, you can do this.
“Just my luck, right? That my husband would leave on what is supposed to be the best night of our lives.” she looked at the golden band on her ring finger and then turned her head, “I can’t go on another day with people looking at me with pity. Stupid town and stupid people, gossiping about something they haven’t got a clue about.”
She picked up a photo frame of a picture of Odysseus, Fitz, and Quinn in their military uniforms, “And the two people who he counted on the most, the two people I thought would understand my pain the most act like he’s already dead. I’m not a bet to be won,a pawn in some silly man’s game. I am Penelope and nobody can take that from me.”
She threw the photo, shattering the fake glass before dropping on her knees, “Odysseus,  there is not a damned person in this world that deserves you. Look at how they dishonor you when you’re not here! My heart is yours and will always be yours. No matter the distance or the time that has gone by that will never change. They may call me crazy or desperate for pining for someone who isn’t here but I made a vow. Marriage is just paper.”
She stood up and looked at the audience, “This means something!” she points to her heart, “Screw what everyone thinks, I will still wait every sunset for you Odysseus. I will.”
The curtains fell and the audience roared. Hinata took a deep breath and looked at me. I was in complete awe. There is no damn way she didn’t win that scholarship. I’ve never seen anything like it, like her. Miss Fuyu ushered her off the stage and gave her a tearful hug, saying something along the lines of “that was so moving” and “a word from the heart”. I tried not to giggle as Hinata looked at me helplessly. My scene was next so I walked over to the stage and got ready.
This scene would be the climax of the story.  The commanding officer calls in Odysseus and  tells him that he has been deployed on false information and that he would be sent home.
“What false information?”
Fitz and Quinn walk onto the stage looking at Odysseus with anger in their eyes.
“Forgery. By these two.”
“How could you?”
“Oh, don’t act so hurt.” Fitz got in my face, “We had to get you out of the picture somehow.”
“I trusted you! The both of you.” I grabbed the two by their shirts, “Why would you do this to me? Put my life on the line, I’d never do something like that to either of you.”
“Fortune. What your wife comes with. You thought you had it all figured out marrying the richest girl in town, but we wanted that too.”
“If you think that I love Penny because of her money then you don’t know me. And you don’t know her either, she isn’t just diamond to sell. You’re dead to me.”
I let go of them and walked off the stage, earning another applause from the crowd. The sets quickly changed to the ending scene. A personal favorite of mine. The set looked so beautiful so I knew Sai had something to do with it. I had the box of chocolates and flowers in my hands as I walked onto the stage. Hinata looked so beautiful in the yellow sundress she was wearing. I said my lines but it was like I couldn’t hear myself or the lines she repeated back to me. I put the flowers and chocolates down as she jumped into my arms, inhaling her sweet lavender scent and feeling what Odysseus felt in that very moment. They sacrificed everything just to be together just like Hinata and I. I set her down and we exchanged our last lines to each other as Penelope and Odysseus.
“I love you to the moon and back.” I said, this time as myself.”
“I love you too.”
We finished the scene with a kiss. The crowd whistled and hollered as I picked her up and spun her in my arms, not breaking our kiss. The curtains closed and I set her back down and I hugged her tightly to me.
“We did it, we really did it!’ she happily whispered in my ear.
We were joined by the rest of the cast when the curtains were opened for the final time. We all joined hands and took a bow as we earned a standing ovation. The sponsors walked onto the stage and held out an envelope. They made a whole big speech about the performances and what the scholarship granted but I wasn’t really paying attention. I just wanted to hear her name.
“We are awarding Miss Hinata Hyuga with our most prestigious scholarship.” They walked over to her and handed her the envelope, “We’ve looked at her impressive background and her performance was superb, complete your schooling, Miss Hyuga.”
“Thank you! Thank you so much!” she shook their hands before turning back to me with her happy, tearful face.
I smiled and clapped for her like everyone else. I’ve never felt so proud and joy in my heart for her. This is what we’ve been fighting for all along and it was so worth it. She kissed my lips and cheeks and hugged me again, thanking me. There was no need for her to grateful when it was her that made it all happen. For the first time, I was speechless.
When we walked out of the theatre, we were greeted by our friends and they took us out of dinner. I thought back to how this play was the catalyst to Hinata and I connecting on a deeper level. I could never regret that. I’ve never seen Hinata the way I do now. So perfect in every way.
I got up to make a toast.
“Thanks for supporting us in this play, thought it would never end. But I want to make a special toast to Hinata.” I turned towards her, “Thank you for showing me that I’m more than what meets the eye. I will never be the same now that you’re by my side.”
“Oh, Naruto.” she blushed and the girls awed.
“To Hinata!” I raised my glass up.
“To Hinata!”

Bleachers Chapter 6: Fitting
Sleeping alone was something of the past. I really don’t know how Hinata was able to deal with these type of emotions for so many years. I got teased an awful lot about it but I couldn’t help it.  This is the first time I’ve felt this way about anyone and my heart told me that I needed to be with her.  I was in her room more often than she was in mine, she probably felt a little uncomfortable with Sasuke being there. I didn’t mind it though, her room is more clean anyways.
If we were like anybody else, I’d say that our relationship is moving fast but we’re not like anybody else.  Nothing felt forced and we didn’t need specific time frames for milestones to happen.  I’ve been falling hard for her these last few weeks in more ways than I can imagine.
Call backs were finally done and over with so we had to go back to the theatre to do costume fittings.  Although the play is set in modern times, Miss Fuyu thought it would be a great idea to let the fashion majors have free rein on what the cast would be wearing.  I’m pretty sure their professors were making them do it for some credit. After that we did a little bit of rehearsing and a toured the set. Hinata and I almost had our lines down which was great since the play would premiere in just under two months from now. The thought itself was super overwhelming but this was Hinata’s big chance and we had to really work hard for it.
After rehearsal, Hinata insisted that we still kept up with our studies, so we got our books and laptops and made a fort on my dorm floor. Sasuke was still at class but he’d be back around dinner time and he had already planned to go out with Sakura so it would just be the two of us. It was kinda funny seeing Hinata get all excited over her highlighters and rainbow colored pens, her face just lit up whenever she got to write an important note in the green pen and highlight a key term with the blue highlighter.
Studying was a breeze with Hinata, usually when I did it, I’d end up passed out and drooling all over my book but she made it fun. She showed me these websites that made videos about the stuff in my class, helped organize my notes, and she even helped me make flashcards. And when we went over the flashcards, every answer I got right I got rewarded with a kiss. I needed to study a little bit more though since I got more wrong than right. We studied for a couple hours and took a break to eat. My brain felt quite full from that time and I knew that with Hinata’s help that I’d retain all that information much easier.
“I was thinking.” Hinata played with the collar of my shirt.
“Go ahead.” I smiled.
“Would you like to come home with me for the holiday break?” she asked hopefully, “You told me that your godfather wouldn’t be home since he is touring his book and I didn’t want you to be alone--”
“It would be an honor.” I squeezed her tight against me.
“Really? I thought you’d be nervous about meeting my father.”
I forgot about that.
“Naruto?” Hinata looked up at me worriedly.
“I’m sorry, but I am a little nervous. Do you think he’ll like me?”
She rested her chin on my shoulder and offered me a smile, “Well I love you so I think he will too.  He likes to act all tough, and he was at one point, but deep down he is a softie.”
“I remember him being hard on you back when we were younger, always comparing you to your little sister and cousin.”
“He did.” she looked away, “A lot. But things have gotten better.  I just think he was having hard time with my uncle passing and everything.”
Hinata did love her father, despite all the crap he put her through.  I don’t know if I’d be able to let all that go but if she is in a good place with him then I’ll be open minded about him.
“Your father always struck me as a traditional type of guy. What will he think of us always finding a way into each other’s beds.” I whispered against her neck to distract her from her melancholy thoughts.
She cleared her throat and gripped onto my shirt, “Uh, um. When you put it like that he wouldn’t be thrilled.”
“Like what?” I grazed my teeth over her pulse point.
“He’s probably think that you’ve taken my innocence or something.” she gulped, her skin getting hotter.
I planted a light, feathery kiss on her neck and snickered, “I’m kidding, Hinata.”
“Naruto, you can’t get me all worked up like that!”
“I like seeing you all worked up though.” I rubbed circles on her back.
“I wouldn’t care, y’know.”
“I know.” I nodded.
“So what is stopping you?” she asked carefully.
“When I make love to you, I want it to be perfect. Can’t be in a college dorm room where the walls are thin.”
“You’re sweet.” she averted her gaze, her cheeks tinted.
“Besides, I want to make a good impression on your dad.  I’ll just have to sneak into your room at night or something.”
“Like my secret lover?” Hinata giggled, “I’m sure if I explained to him then he’d allow us to be in the same bed together. If anything he’ll make us keep the door open or something.”
“My idea sounds risky though!”
“I don’t want you to meet our family katana though, Father would love a reason to use it.” she pleaded.
“Alright, we’ll be honest. I do want him to like me after all.”
She gave me her pretty smile and hugged me tightly, “Oh, I can’t wait!”
I have to do something real special for her but I couldn’t let her find out. I wanted her to be completely surprised and blown away. Hell, I wanted to make her fall in love with me all over again and make her proud to be my girl. I’m not usually the type of guy to think things through and plan things out but for her I wanted to make the effort.
For every single year she waited for me I wanted to make up for. Sometimes being an idiot comes to bite you in the ass. I could’ve had something so great a long time ago.  At the same time, I would’ve taken it for granted because I was young and immature. Nowhere near the man Hinata deserves.
“I’m gonna take a shower, did you want to stay here tonight?” I picked her up and sat her on my bed, “I’m pretty sure Sasuke is staying with Sakura tonight.”
She nodded quickly, “I don’t mean to be mean, but when he stays the night Sakura has a hard time being… quiet.”
I saw the blush spread across her face and I knew exactly what she was talking about.
“Well, well, well. I didn’t think Sasuke had the balls to do it when you’re in the room.” I leaned against the doorway.
“I wasn’t trying to listen! I was asleep but then I woke up because of a bad dream… and then I heard them, but I didn’t want to embarrass Sakura so I just pretended to be asleep.”
“Oh, Hinata! This is gold!”
“Uh uh! You can’t say anything about that, Naruto.”
“Sakura is always lecturing me about being a gentleman with you and Sasuke teases me constantly! This is the perfect blackmail!”
“Please don’t!” She squeaked and ran over to cover my mouth, “Not a peep!”
“Ah! Only for you! But we have to find some way to pay them back.”
“You can think about that while you shower.” She laughed and dug in my drawer for one of my shirts.
I’d much rather watch her change into my clothes but I’d have to push the pervert out and get cleaned up. When I came out she was cross-legged on my bed reading over the script again, her hair piled on the top of her head. How she managed to always look this beautiful is beyond my understanding. The smile she gave me when she noticed my presence was so sweet and I will always treasure how it makes me feel.
She set aside the script and made room in my small full size bed for the both of us. I pulled her into my arms and ran my fingers up and down her back. I only paused when she started to giggle.
“What? Did that tickle?”
She shook her head and tucked a few stray hairs behind her ear, “You hold me like it’s the last time you’ll ever see me. You know I’ll never leave you right?”
“Yeah, I know that. It’s just…”
Her eyes looked deep into my soul as she waited patiently for me to get what I needed to get out.
“I don’t know, I… just can’t wrap my head that someone like you would even love me or even give me a glance.” I bit my lip, “I can’t help myself.”
She pressed her lips against mine and traced little patterns on my whiskers, “Falling in love with Naruto Uzumaki is the easiest thing I’ve done in my life. It has always been you. The smile that filled me with hope.”
“I love you.”
I wasn’t afraid to say it anymore and I meant it. With every fiber in me I love Hinata.  Fuck timing, I needed her to know. Her pearlish eyes glistened and teared up at the three words and she hugged me tightly.
“Naruto…”
“Hinata Hyuga, I love you and I will always love you.” I brought my lips to hers and kissed her again and again.
Home wasn’t back in my small town, it is wherever she is. My light, the reason why I’ll always come back, what keeps me grounded. She is mine and I am her’s forever.

Bleachers Chapter Three: Let it Begin
Hinata is the most prompt person I know.  Which kinda made me feel guilty when the guys and I showed up fifteen minutes late, but she had Sakura and Ino with her so she wasn’t all alone. I don’t know what it is about girls and dressing all up whenever they went to a bar, it was awfully distracting. Hinata didn’t show off though and is modest when it comes to the things she wears.  She dressed for comfort and to accommodate the cool autumn weather while most of the women showed mostly their skin.
“You guys managed to get Hinata out of her dorm room for once?” Kiba asked.
“Shocker right? Hinata, here says she was invited out and we weren’t just gonna let this sweet thing out all by herself!” Ino wrapped her arm around Hinata protectively, “Besides, I wanna know who’s the perp that distracted her from her usual routine.”
“I’m the perp.” I said sheepishly.
“Hinata, you didn’t tell us it was Naruto that invited you to the bar.” Sakura smirked at Hinata, causing her to start fidgeting.
“Relax, Hinata needs a break anyways.” I stuffed my hands in my pockets, “Besides, we’re gonna be pretty busy juggling schoolwork and the play.”
“A play too? I didn’t know you were into drama, Hinata.” Ino looked at Hinata questioningly.
“Wait, wait, wait.” Kiba stood in the middle, “You guys are joining the play. A play!”
Oh, God. I screwed myself this time.
“Yes, they have auditions tomorrow. They’re going for the starring roles.” Sai kindly informed him.
“Uh huh, interesting.” Kiba smirked mischievously, “And may I ask what type of play our dear friends are trying out for?”
“It’s the modern take of a Greek play on Odysseus and Penelope. It’s quite romantic actually.” Sai said light heartedly.
Here it goes. Looks like I’ll need a double shot to start this night.
“O, ROMEO! WHERE ART THOU!”
“For the love of all things good!” I stomped my feet in protest, “Hey! Bartender give me a double shot of the best whiskey you’ve got, it’s gonna be a long night.”
The bartender got shots ready for everyone and we all raised our small glasses up to do a toast. The drinks rolled in and I did a good job of not getting wasted but I couldn’t say the same for Kiba and surprisingly Sasuke. It was actually super funny seeing a belligerent Sasuke letting Sakura dance all over him in the middle of the small dancefloor.  It’s extremely not like him, he likes keeping their romance all hush hush, but nobody could deny how much they are into each other.
I noticed Hinata distancing herself a little bit, sipping on what I assumed was a fruity drink so I decided to sit down next to her to give her company.
“Hey.” she brought the bright colored drink to her lips.
“Not into the huge crowd thing, are you.” I folded my arms on the bar.
“I’m getting used to it.” she shrugged a little, throwing me a glance, “You know what I’m gonna do from here on out?”
“What?” I asked curiously.
“I’m gonna ask myself, ‘What would Penelope do?’ and do it.” she downed the rest of her drink, clearly the alcohol was having some sort of affect on her, “A lot of great actors do this to get in sync with the characters they're portraying.”
“And what would Penelope do?”
“She’d take Odysseus out on that dancefloor and dance the night away.” She sat the empty glass on the bar and hopped off the barstool, “Are you coming or not?”
Some part of me liked this more assertive version of Hinata. I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t remember any of this but my memory wouldn’t let this fade for a very long time.  I followed her into the middle of the dance floor, and we definitely earned a few gazes from our friends. A new song played now and I couldn’t tell what it was but the beat was thumping and bodies were swaying.  Logic was out the window at this point, Hinata and I just let the music flow through us. We inched nearer and nearer to each other in our slow movements, paying attention to each other but paying attention to nothing at all. It was nothing like I’ve ever felt before and the alcohol in both our bodies definitely played a part.
“Y’know what else Penelope would do?” she looked up at me with hooded eyes.
“Hm, what would she do.”
“This.” her hands held the sides of my face, pulling it to near her own.
I swallowed hard and neared her wanting lips with my own but the only thing I could pay attention to was the smell of alcohol emitting from the both of us. I quickly snapped out of it and pulled away before our lips met. I held her hands in my own and shook my self.  Oh how bad I wanted to kiss her at that moment but I couldn’t.  Not like this, both of us drunk in the middle of a sweaty dance floor.  I couldn’t let her first kiss be like that, without any meaning.
“What’s wrong?” she swallowed hard.
“I’m sorry, Hinata. We can’t do this. Not like this.”
“I-I just thought.” she looked all around her anxiously, clearing her throat, “Nevermind, forget it.”
She dropped my hands and pushed her way out the bar.  I couldn’t let her go like this so I followed her outside. When she noticed that I was following her she started running, breaking her high heeled shoe in the process but she tried her damned hardest before she got tired and hunched over the side of an alley to spill her guts. Just how much did she drink tonight? I held her hair as she finished and she wiped her mouth with her sleeve and started tearing up.
“Stupid, stupid stupid!” she cursed herself, smudging mascara all over her face and kicking off her broken heels.
Well that’s one way to sober me up.
“Hey, that’s enough.” I scolded her, “I don’t wanna hear that from you.”
Her bottom lip quivered as she started crying again. Something I just recently learned about myself is that I hate seeing Hinata cry under any circumstances.
“Let’s get you cleaned up.” I lifted her up and carried her all the way back in her dorm room.
I made sure to not jostle her so much since I didn’t plan on getting vomit all over me. She looked at me ever so often but remained quiet and in her thoughts. I hope she was feeling rejected but I didn’t see a point in talking about what that was when she clearly wasn’t in her right mind.  I mean why would she want to kiss me of all people.  I’m just the guy who pestered her into auditioning for some play she had no interest in to begin with and forced her out of her comfortable box.  She didn’t ask for any of this, and she definitely didn’t ask for the unfaltering Naruto Uzumaki.  Someone like Hinata didn’t need someone like me bothering her and it sorta hurt to know that someone like me needed someone like Hinata.
I pushed my insecurities aside just to make sure that she would be okay tonight. I dug her key out from her pocket when I set her down beside me and unlocked her door room.  Once I set the key on her desk, I walked her into her shared bathroom and turned the shower on cold before I put her inside of it with her clothes on.
She shrieked and groaned at the cold needles pricking her skin.  I felt a little bad but this is how I cure myself of a hangover before morning hits. While I let the water do its work, I searched for her pajamas and aspirin. Luckily, Hinata is more organized than the guys and I found everything I needed quickly. I set the aspirin and the bottled water on her night stand and placed her pajamas on the bathroom counter before I sat down on her swivel chair and waited for her.  After ten minutes, I heard her turn the water off and she was out within another ten minutes, gargling her mouthwash.
When she noticed I was still there she got startled and quickly ran back into the bathroom to spit out her mouthwash. I just sat there waiting for her to get comfortable. She sighed and sat down on her bed, fidgeting with the sleeves of her night dress, seemingly not knowing what to say. That definitely sobered her up.
I broke the ice and handed her the bottled water and aspirin, “This will help you not get a headache tomorrow.”
“Thanks.” she took the medicine and downed the entire bottle of water, “... I’m sorry, Naruto.”
“There is nothing to be sorry for.” I sat down beside her, “I just couldn’t do that to you.”
“I’ve never had that much alcohol in my system at once.” she admitted, “I just thought… It would help me be more brave.”
“Don’t worry about it. Water under the bridge.” I smiled hopefully.
She looked over me and returned my smile with a small one, “I dunno, it’s just part of me felt like..”
“Like what?”
“Like maybe I could actually be Penelope. Not be stuck with this shyness and quietness, be wanted.”
She didn’t have the slightest idea about how wanted she is.
“Well Penelope is cool and all but I like people like you, Hinata.” I poked her with my elbow gently.
Her familiar pink tint spread across her cheeks as she reached her hand across mine and intertwined her pinky with mine.  No words were spoken and I felt at ease about that.
“Although we’re miles and miles and worlds away, there is one single thing, not visible to the naked eye, that keeps my heart strong and my mind grounded. Not even Zeus himself could sever it.” she recited one of the lines of Penelope.
“Anchored by the thought of coming home to see you again, no witch and no warlock could give me a better gift than the one I already have… Uh I don’t remember the rest of the line.” I said sheepishly.
Hinata’s pinky squeezed mine reassuringly before she let go, “Don’t worry, I don’t have it all memorized either.”
I stood up and stretched out my muscles, “I better head out, I don’t wanna disturb your sleep since you’ve got class all early. See you tomorrow?”
“Of course.” she stood up to lead me out of her room, “Goodnight, Naruto.”
“Don’t let the bedbugs bite.” that earned me her smile before she closed the door behind her.
It’s probably weird for me to say this but, it’s like little pieces of myself are left with Hinata and eventually it would all belong just to her. Trying to fight against wanting her was torture. I couldn’t possibly amount to anything worthy of her but at the same time that stubbornness inside of me wanted to give it all I’ve got.
I’m an idiot but even I know what this strange attachment I have for Hinata is, but I’m not ready to admit it to myself.

Summary:  “ Her endless pools reflected the moon in the most wonderful way.  In some weird way, I felt connected to Hinata and almost protective over her.  I wanted things to go her way and I’d do my hardest to help.” College AU. Rated T, might be changed to M later.
Pairing: NaruHina
Bleachers Chapter Two: O, Romeo
“A romance play! You didn’t tell me it would be a romance!” I groaned when he handed me the scripts.
It would be super hard to convince Hinata to join me on this one.  I can already see her running off the stage when our characters have to profess their love to each other.  It couldn’t hurt to try though, maybe she’ll agree to it just for the scholarship. Although I wish Sai would’ve warned me ahead of time.
Today there would be an orientation in the theatre about auditions and call backs and the auditions would start the following day.  Basically all we had to do is show up and sign up.  Hinata and I decided to meet up in my dorm room with Sasuke after she is done with her Calculus course since the dorms were close by.  Worked perfectly.  We would have at least an hour to go over the lines and hopefully go to the orientation if she still wanted to go through with it.
Until then, I decided I’d play games with the guys before they had to go to class.  Shikamaru and Sasuke always tried to find the smart way to the goal in our multiplayer mission but I liked doing things head first, so usually when we play our video games together, we ended up arguing about which route is the best route before we just end up blowing stuff up on the game.
“Damn it, Naruto! I told you to take cover by the car, not throw grenades!” Shikamaru slammed his controller.
“Now you alerted the enemy.” Sasuke squinted his eyes at me.
“Why walk on eggshells when a grenade can take out about half of them?”
“You never think these things through and it drags the mission.”
“Whatever. You’re just mad because I like to actually utilize the weapons we have.” I waved them off, getting up to grab some soda.
“Hey, what’s that over there?” Sasuke nudged his head towards the script.
“Nothing.” I shielded it from his view.
This only irritated him and he snatched it from behind me.
“A play?” Shikamaru raised his eyebrow, “Not just any play, but a romance. Just wait until Chouji and Kiba hear about this.”
“No! Whatever you do, don’t tell Kiba!” I waved my arms frantically.
If Kiba got any word of this, I would have no end to all of the theatre jokes and pokes.
“I can already hear the dog-faced idiot.” Sasuke snickered to himself, “O, Romeo where art thou?”
“Shut up, will ya!” I punched his arm, “Don’t you guys have a class to go to?”
“Oh yeah, that’s right. See ya… Romeo.” Shikamaru got his bag and left with Sasuke.
I cursed to myself and kicked my door shut.  They were definitely telling Kiba; they couldn’t possibly resist such a golden moment.  It was only a few minutes before I heard a light tapping on the door which could only come from Hinata. I happily greeted her and let her inside.  She fidgeted with her hair and her scarf as she sat down on my bed so I decided to try to make her a little more comfortable.
“How was class?” I started.
“It was fine. Just graphing and unknown variables, the usual.” she turned her head to the side.
I got the scripts and handed on to her, “I’ll let you read through it before we get started.”
“Penelope.” she read the title, “The play is Greek?”
“Uh, yeah.” I nodded, sitting across from her in my swivel chair.
We silently read the entire script together.  The drama team decided to do a more modern take on the old Greek play to attract a broader audience which I thought was pretty cool. I finished reading the script but I knew she finished when her usual light pink tint spread across her cheeks.
“A romance.” she stuttered between her words.
“Yeah, I had no clue. Sai didn’t care to let me know about that.” I scratched behind my head nervously, “If this is too much for you, it’s okay to back out.”
She thought about if for a second, her gaze glancing all around the room before she stuck out her pinky towards me.
“We made a promise remember?”
“Yeah. Are you sure though?” I wrapped my bigger pinky around her’s.
She nodded, “Let’s blow this popsicle stand.”
I let out a hearty laugh and leaned back in my chair, “I’ve always known you were funny, Hinata.”
She brought her hands up to her lips and let out a small chuckle at her own joke.
“I’m really gonna have to break out of my shell if I’m going to play Penelope.” she noted.
“You can do it, keep your eyes on the prize.”
“Right. Shall we go over the lines?”
I gave a quick nod as we started to rehearse the lines and before we knew it, it was time to head out to the theatre.  The director of the play was Miss Fuyu, she apparently did Broadway once and was an expert in everything related to plays and musicals. I saw Sai painting in the background with a few other people while Miss Fuyu gave everyone a run down of how auditions and callbacks work, the story behind the play, and the schedules. Hinata took all the notes and listened attentively to everything she was saying.  At the end of the orientation we had to sign the sheet and put down which role we were trying for. I, of course but Odysseus and Hinata put down Penelope. Tomorrow we’d have to meet at the theatre at the same time which would a bit of a rush since both Hinata and I had class before then.  We’d make it work though.
“Do you think Miss Fuyu will want us to do the entire play for the audition or just a certain scene?” Hinata asked as we walked out of the theatre.
“Gee, I dunno.” I thought a little, “Guess we find out tomorrow.”
“I was just wondering because..” she fumbled between her words, “Y’know because… of that scene at the end.”
“Oh, yeah.” I chuckled nervously.
There was a kiss scene at the end of the play. I knew exactly what she was worried about.
“I’ve never actually kissed...anyone.” she admitted, turning her head away from me.
“Wait what?” I stopped our walk and turned her to look at me, “Not once! Not even a peck?”
She shrugged her shoulders and shook her head.
“C’mon, Hinata! That’s crazy, I mean you’re really pretty how could it not have happened?”
She let out a small gasp before raised her hands up to cover her cheeks, shaking her head furiously.
“My nose is always in a book.  Besides, I wasn’t ever really interested.”
I guess I can see where she’s coming from.  My first kiss was accidental with Sasuke of all people, but we buried that deep in the grave and it is never supposed to be brought up again.  And then there was that time in my first year in university when I had seven minutes in heaven with this girl named, Saya.  That was less than pleasant, I had no experience and she insisted on shoving her tongue down my throat.  I could gag at the very thought. Yikes.
“You don’t want your first kiss being with me?” I smirked mischievously.
“No, no it’s not that!” she shrieked.
“Oh, so you do want to kiss me.” I had to admit I liked seeing her get all worked up.
Her face was beet red and she did her best to hide herself in her hair, “Naruto!”
“I’m just messing with you.” I bursted out laughing and wrapped my arm around her shoulder, continuing our walk.
She gently poked my side and pouted, her face still red. Oh, this was pure gold.
“That was not nice, Naruto!”
“Oh, c’mon it was funny. At least a little!”
She shook her head defiantly.
“C’mon!”
“Nope!”
“Admit it! It was a good one.”
“Slightly.” she bubbled up in laughter.
“That's more I like it.” I laughed with her, “I’ve got class right now but we’re all going out for drinks later, wanna join?”
“Um, it sounds like fun.” she glanced my way before looking back down at her feet.
“Cool! See ya there!” I gave her a thumbs up before running off to the Communications building.
I turned my back once and saw her back where we stood, smiling and waving at me. Her hair contrasting the sun in the most mesmerizing way.  I had a small feeling I’d have a hard time keeping her out of my head.
