ShareWaves Foundation Promotes Youth Sports in the Kansas City Area

Eric Dillie has served several educational organizations in Texas and California. The Superintendent of Schools for Key Educational Group in Dublin, California, Eric Dillie also offers his expertise to charitable groups. For example, he is on the board of advisers of the newly formed ShareWaves Foundation of Kansas City. ShareWaves is a community outreach program sponsored by Union Broadcasting, owner of Sports Radio 810 WHB, and is dedicated to building the popularity of youth sports in America. ShareWaves promotes the benefits of sports, such as the important life skills they impart, including hard work and team effort. The organization also promotes sports to enhance kids’ health with physical exertion, as well as improving emotional intelligence. However, many children do not enjoy these advantages. Statistics indicate the average child has abandoned sports by age 11, and 30 percent of young people 15 and older are “insufficiently active.” The inability of families of low income to pay for athletic participation is partly to blame for this situation. A 501(c)3 organization launched in 2020, ShareWaves is taking a number of steps to remedy the situation. It encourages lifelong physical activity, aids other youth sports agencies, and offers financial aid to disadvantaged families. It also sponsors educational and fundraising events and provides grants to athletes.

an early conversion

The first coding language I dedicated myself to learning was PHP - for a failed pseudo-social network I called "ShareWaves". But shortly thereafter, I started building client-side single-page Javascript applications. One of the earliest was a plaintext-to-HTML converter:

At this time, I was still heavily dependent on both Bootstrap and jQuery - one for the styles and the other for the scripts. But the clear benefit there is that my custom code is super succinct. Under 50 lines of CSS, and scarcely 16 lines of Javascript:

This tool is incredibly simple, but I still find myself coming back to it to test stuff out all the time - even for work. ...Actually, looking back at it, the shortcut icon is loaded from my employer's website - so I think I initially made this for work!

tl;dr: more code isn't necessarily better; frameworks are a great way to get started
