I'm utterly sad and mad about this lineup. This was so unexpected, and honestly, gave me Produce 48 flashbacks... literally everyone was shocked when certain names were called... rigged? I would not be surprised. 10 weeks I've watched this show and should not have my hopes too high. The show was very fast-paced and felt like it skipped a few rounds to eliminate contestants faster (the ongoing theme song dance round). There should have been longer episodes imo.

Tbh, I didn't even know some of the trainees who were announced because they barely got any screen time and story arcs? Or barely started to give them screen time towards the end of the series. The show clearly had a budget, considering there were actual idols who performed as guests.

But I hope they have a successful debut after all the shit they went through. And I hope the other contestants are able to debut soon, too. (Xing xing and congb 😭) Atleast fantasy boys are able to reunite after this and Project 7. The fact that there were so many other talented contestants... I'll see how this plays out...

Anyways, congrats to the top 9 👏

wasn't guerilla just more fun to look at? it pumped me UP, and I'm not really that big of a fan of either of these songs so

butter VS glitch mode: glitch mode was more stable, better balanced etc. and like the guiders were saying, pentor did quite a bit of carrying here

but aside from being stable, pentor is just really fun and entertaining to watch. He so genuinely enjOYS himself while performing, it's lovely. So while glitch mode was right to win, I think I enjoyed pentor's performance the most

predictions for my babes specifically: become besties and legends.

also their team WILL have an 'avengers team disappoints at interim' arc because this is a survival show

lee junhyuk - former rapper and leader of mirae! he was my second bias in mirae so ofc im supporting him here. so glad his audition went well 🙂‍↕️

he xi long - i started calling him my child and then he started singing and i went main vocal???? and then i discovered that he is not my child and we're the same age. anyways i can't wait to see more from him

shao zi heng - kind of the it boy thus far, but i really want to see him in a more casual style & interacting with the other trainees. pretty sure everyone knows by now but he was a part of the riize lineup and got cut very very late in the day (he attended predebut schedules with them and anonymously posted on sm's account) due to investor xenophobia. talented, and i think he might be the theme song center. we'll see

pentor - i liked him & kris' audition, but i don't really know much. i might start voting for him soon, we'll see

others im watching

sun yinghao & duan xingxing - of course im watching the ixform members, everyone is. i think the production is biased especially towards yinghao and (hangyul, while we're on the topic) and honestly i have no problem with that since this group will need a lot of support. surprisingly, i might like dxx a little better but im not sure how marketable he'll be if they're promoting in korea. all remains to be seen.

wang kun - i saw him on asy and i actually liked him a little more there? he's cute though, i like him. i wanna see how he does

lee daeul - of boys planet notoriety. i think he has a very debutable face & his fanbase is still kinda strong. i think they were a little harsh in his audition & the attempted zhengting/ely storyline was pretty poorly done. we'll see

syo - not a pick necessarily, but i'll be voting for him as long as he's on the show. everyone saw his unfair treatment during the auditions, he deserves so much better. im actually surprised that the judges didn't have the tact to hide their bias

kaito - i left his performance (with syo) wanting to see more from him. his rapping was pretty good, and i can definitely see him in a group

one concern i have about this show is that i dont really understand who their target audience is or what they want the group to look like. there are some really great chinese trainees, but it seems that people in mainland china cant vote which could severely kneecap the group...plus the confusion of having a korean show hosted by a chinese network with korean judges, a lot of star chinese trainees, and aiming for (presumably) the korean market is...? like, syo definitely bore the brunt of the racism but there was a little weirdness with some of the chinese trainees too that concerns me. i want to see how the voting works out and whether the judges/production are able to adjust based on the current backlash about the xenophobia coming from international fans.

It's been a crazy year for all these boy groups' survival show huh. Anyways, for my first post of 2025, here is my number 1 pick of Starlight boys, Shao Zi Heng! The fiery spirit and strong determination (plus his handsome looks) have gagged me. His audition stood out to me as I thought it was incredible that he learned that choreography within a matter of days. Throughout the show, I saw how competitive he was, and it was kinda scary and hot, ngl.. he was so persistent on being the center, and it came true! He said ✨️manifest✨️ (through hard work of course) and I hope he gets the attention he deserves and has a successful career 🫶 good luck, Shao~

finally here to drop on you: some thoughts on the first ep of starlight boys!

the auditions I have something to say about

blood sweat and tears: ke ming kai, li sheng jun and sheng qi

way too hard song choice. I get why so many trainees would choose a bts song, but why this song? please someone point me towards a cover of bs &t that had the same aura as the original, bc at this point i'm convinced it is uncoverable. the pitch of it, too, is so dangerous in the way that if you don't get the feel of that intro right, you're lost immediately...

breathe: syo and ryou kaito

don't like syo's style of singing. japanese vocal style that will need to go. otherwise, I'm actually pretty neutral about it.

darari: kim seong ju

not him going platinum seller with the trainees lmao. I mean, if anything, it proved the guiders right in giving him one star

crazy form: kim seon jae, han jeong woo and choi jun ho

obviously have been trained. something about the intro was way off, idk if it was the pitch or if it was just done monotonously but it got my sibling and me real scared. not necessary though! the rest of it was pretty great!

black suit: shao zi heng

WOW. he's really good, stable, good pronunciation and mindset, BEAUTIFUL too. spoilers include that he's in my top9 right now. I got real shady vibes at first, about the level of humbled he was giving ... felt like an act for a minute there, but it was probably just the nerves!

my house: han gyul, do ha, min jae, yoo jun

the babies did so great... the AURA in this performance was insane. the synchronized choreo at the start?? oh, these are idols, is what you're telling me

fantastic baby: rex, zhang ji jun and yang yan

I did not enjoy this. audition performances need to showcase skill and potential. if part of your potential is showmanship, then great. if you utilize showmanship purely to draw attention, then there was no potential shown. I can get why the trainees might have liked it though (song choice, atmosphere yada yada)

love 119: wang kun, he xi long, ngan chau yuet, float and zhang jing he

pretty much neutral about this. wasn't bad by any means, but I also already forgot all of them except wang kun

really really: nam son, lee da eul, park yeon wook and jeon min gyu

are they giving da eul another came from the bottom narrative? I feel like he should have come on by himself instead..

rush hour: lee jun hyuk

VERY impressive to do as a one-man performance. entertaining, stable

good guy: pentor and kris

so happy to see an sf9 performance! and done this well?? damn near brought tears to my eyes. pentor has a bright bright future ahead, and kris was also not to be forgotten!

xing xing is so much fun to watch!! it's obvious he's also having fun, and to be this stable while also being entertaining to look at is a real feat!

other things I need to talk about:

donghwa

I NEED him to do well!! I've missed him so much, the tension in my body any time a solo trainee stepped through that tunnel only for it to not be him was crazy, my sibling is my witness lmao

they put him all by himself, way up there, and I'm crossing all my fingers, and my toes too, that he doesn't let that add to his nerves but I feel like it's inevitable

his nose is still very pretty, he's wearing a mesh turtleneck, he's doing a song that has bodyrolls..... they put him last in the round-up of trainees that still have to go (way at the end of the ep) so let's hope that's a good thing!!

hangyul, baby. I first met you through a survival show, and I was very thankful for it then. seeing as you didn't debut with the unit, I was also glad to see you in px101. but they messed you over, put something in front of you that was the realization of your dream, only for it to be taken away...

the fact that trainees were like "he was in X1!" damn near put me out. I know that you have a shit label, that they're really just looking for viral moment after viral moment to keep the group in the collective memory. but I also know that this might help you to advance once more, get closer to that realization again.

so now that you're back here, and in a context where I'm able to vote for you, please believe that I will. we'll do our damnedest to not let you down, gyul.

S.H.E가 드디어 다시 합체를 했어용!!!

그 이유는 바로 곧 개봉 할 영화 “소년반(少年班)”의 주제곡을 부르기 위해서랍니다…

그동안 솔로 데뷔한 Hebe의 슬픈 노래로 S.H.E에 대한 그리운 마음을 달랬었는데,

이번에 드디어 완벽한 S.H.E의 목소리를 다시 듣게 되어 너무 행복하네요~

  점점 닮아가는 그 때 그 시절의 “소녀”들.

  Selina, Hebe 그리고 Ella 세 명의 귀엽고 발랄한 소녀로 구성된 S.H.E 그룹 , 한때 정말 인기 많았던 여성 그룹이었죠.

한국처럼 그룹 가수가 많지 않았던 중국에서 S.H.E(대만)나 Twins(홍콩)는 정말 보석같은 존재 였어요.

그 중에서도 랑랑이는 S.H.E 를 가장 좋아했는데, 친구랑 같이 노래방에 가면 양정여나 S.H.E의 노래는 항상 애창곡이었던 시절이 있었죠.

친구와 함께 돼지 멱따는 소리로 S.H.E의 “난 어른이 되고 싶지 않아(不想长大)”를 목청껏 불렀던 그 시절,

너무 그립네요…~~

  S.H.E 그룹명은 사실 세명의 멤버, Selina, Hebe, Ella의 이름 이니셜을 따서 만들었답니다.

2000년에 대만의 오디션 프로에 출연하게 되면서 캐스팅이 되어, 그 이듬해인 2001년 S.H.E란 이름으로 연예계에 정식으로 데뷔했었죠.

S.H.E가 불렀던 노래 중 인기곡이 진짜 많았는데요, “Super Star”, “페르시아 고양이”, “난 어른이 되고 싶지 않아”, “중국어”… 정말 끝이 없겠어요.

  S.H.E가 연예계에서 승승장구하면서, 크고 작은 사고가 잇달아 발생 했었는데요,

 2011년 Selina가 상하이에서 드라마를 찍다가, 폭발 사고가 일어나면서 심한 화상을 입게 되었죠.

이 사고로 하여 Selina, 그리고 S.H.E의 앞날에 엄청난 영향을 받게 되죠.

  Selina가 한동안 활동을 중단 하게 되면서, S.H.E의 모든 계획 또한 무산되었죠.

그 후 Selina는 남자친구와 결혼 선언을 하면서  당분간 연예계 활동을 쉬게 되었고,

 Hebe는 솔로 앨범을 내게 되고, Ella는 계속 드라마 영역에서 활동을 하면서

세 명의 멤버들은 뿔뿔이 흩어지게 되었답니다. 공식적으로 해체 선언을 하지는 않았지만 말이죠.

  그리고 2012년, 세명의 완전체가 드디어 함께 무대에 오르게 되는데요, 새로운 앨범도 냈다고 해요.

어느덧 세 명의 멤버 중 두명은 이미 유부녀가 되었고… 랑랑이도 유부녀가 되었고…

크고 작은 시련을 많이 겪었지만 끝까지 서로의 손을 놓지 않고 다시 꿋꿋하게 합치게 된 그녀들의 용기와 우정에 박수를 쳐주고 싶네요.

가창력과 상관 없이, 그녀들의 노래를 들으면 항상 가슴이 먹먹 해지고 따뜻해 지는 느낌이 들어요.

이렇게 내가 살아있다는 것 만으로 너무 행복 해 지는 느낌이 들게 하죠.

  항상 같은 곳을 바라보는 그런 친구, 여러 분 옆에도 그런 친구가 있나요?

  그리고 이번에 이렇게 또 반가운 소식이 …

  한때 소년이었던 너와 나의 그때 그 시절을 추모하기 위한 곡이라고 생각이 드네요.

가사가 너무 감동적이에요.

  “넌 소년이었어”란 곡은 영화 감독 샤오양(肖洋)이 1주일 동안 고민 끝에, 결국 2시간만에 작사를 마친 곡인데요, 가사를 보시면 아시겠지만,

청춘, 젊음에 대한 추억들을 담담하게 적은 가사라, 너무 공감이 가고 가슴에 와 닿는 것 같아요. 그리고 이 곡을 S.H.E가 부르게 된 이유도 흥미로운데요, 감독 샤오양의 대학교 시절 여자친구가, 그때 당시 S.H.E의 노래를 무지 좋아했다고 ��더라고요. 여자친구 때문에 S.H.E란 그룹을 알게 된 샤오양 감독은 그때 부터 S.H.E의 노래를 듣기 시작했는데, “지난 십몇년동안 항상 긍정적인 이미지로 사람들에게 힘을 주었던 그룹”이라고 칭찬을 아끼지 않았답니다. 실제로 S.H.E가 부른 이 곡을 들으면서, 느낀건데 샤오양 감독의 선택이 틀리지 않았다는 것. ^^
