How this Blog came to be

 I’m 43 this year and after many years of travelling and enjoying some of the best culinary experiences in the world – I realized.. it’s time to write it all down and share my experiences..

My time in Asia, Europe and USA has taught me a lot and I have seen it all. But to be honest, dining alone is not a bad experience. Its something shunned by business travellers and single people as too hard, but quite honestly – it's to be embraced!

The look of pity that comes across Maitre D’s faces initially when I arrive at restaurants is normally replaced with friendship and hug/handshake at the end of the 2 hour meal interaction. Single people are discerning, normally higher end individuals who have a high social net worth and good word of mouth within these networks.

I find esp staying at hotels all over the world – the weirdest initial food experience is a solo breakfast. Followed in a close second by cocktails alone at the bar… for obvious reasons! In room dining for single people is common and to be frank the easy way out..

My goal in this blog is to review and highlight amazing places to dine – but also guide single gourmet’s to some wonderful dining experiences.. I hope you enjoy my journey!

Venues as well take note….  Single Diners should not be ignored… Why? Here are a few reasons.

Nothing like complete freedom in the world of F&B..

Dining alone means no body to please but yourself. It’s so refreshing to not have to mould your food choices to a partner. Single diners are upsell potential gold!

If I have dined with somebody (partner or Boyfriend) to be honest most of them have been foodies – so they have a similar attitude to food as me, so to be honest, I’m a good customer in any F&B establishment!!

Pay attention Venues – my average check will be high!

Nobody to judge or comment SO of course I’m going to try what I want and have dessert – wine – sides etc. On average I have found my personal spend to be higher when dining alone (and I also tip high as well)

  Fit me in wherever..

Unlike some other guests who might want a view – or something specific with their table, I’m cool if you put me in the back or slot me into a bad table. Generally these spaces are more interesting, have a high traffic flow and also more bustling and interesting! With a IPad or phone I can entertain myself easily, also makes it better to photograph the food – and I can quietly enjoy my third or fourth glass of pinot noir

  I could be a reviewer..

And yes in this case I am! The number of times I have been shunned as a single person dining – and in fact I could be a reviewer… don’t overlook the power of One!

Mr&MrsBund, Shanghai - Pairet wanted to open up a brasserie style, relaxed restaurant serving comfort food to everyone. Pairet himself has worked all around the world including in Sydney. Despite intentions, celebrities and politicians like Quentin Tarantino and Bill Clinton have dined here.
