✧ The Shaman Antiquity ✧ Queen Azalea & King Clover of Sarasaland
This story is set thousands of years back in the Paper Mario timeline; these two are conceptual designs for the ancestors of Princess Daisy.
While they don’t make an official appearance at this point in the timeline, I still love building the world out, and enjoy drawing what everyone looks like. You can learn more about Sarasaland here. It’s a fun start to the rabbit hole I’m way down at this point, hahaha. :]

More from my Paper Mario/Shaman Antiquity reference book-- a couple quick doodles of Merlinos’ house in the Shamanic Village of Mushroom Kingdom.
I’ll share more as the story progresses. :]

Sliver of some upcoming character art for Merlinos, which will be added to the Historia section of ✧ The Shaman Antiquity ✧ (that which I just recently resumed, now that I’m finally finished moving, haha).
Fun note: The style’s been adjusted a bit, gearing more towards my original intentions of a paper-like quality. I want to do my best to pay homage both to the series and Rosalina’s Storybook, so this painting method has enlightened me.
Already working on the next panel set. My goal is to get this comic to stay current on a weekly basis by summer.
If you’re a fan of the Paper Mario series, go check it out!

Following the race descriptions and a briefing of cultural attire comes writing the world’s historical documentation for The Shaman Antiquity. It was tricky to start, but after marking major events, such as wars and outbreaks, it became much smoother in process. Later on, I get to cut back to each kingdom and break down even more cultural references. Fans of the Paper Mario series will be happy to know that I’m also incorporating the recipes Mario uses as items in the actual games, which will be very fun for me (I really like illustrating food, haha).

For those who’ve been keeping up with my posts regarding The Shaman Antiquity, I’ve recently created the comic’s official blog! While it’s a ‘blank stage’ for now, I invite you to check it out, and follow if you’re interested. Very excited. :]

Another sketch of Merlinos from The Shaman Antiquity. (He’s one of my favorites to draw and color, haha.)
A quick footnote that I should mention: my sketches of this story will remain on my blog, as to abstain from the flow of the story’s presentation on its own site.

More reference pages from The Shaman Antiquity.
As I’ve recently made a world map with official locations (pics soon), I’m currently in the process of drafting the historical timeline, which dates back to the period of King Croacus I’s rule during the Florus Era.
The map and timeline will also expand beyond the Shamans in Mushroom Kingdom, as they live throughout each region of the Mario world-- including countries such as Sarasaland (Princess Daisy’s empire) and the Darklands (King Bowser’s kingdom).

Color sketches for The Shaman Antiquity.
Pictured above is a concept for Blumiere; below is a figure used for practicing a standard Shamanic female outfit (comparing color schemes between the Tribe of Darkness and Tribe of the Ancients).

A few sketches and conceptual references for my upcoming fan-based Paper Mario comic, The Shaman Antiquity.
Many of the series’ details and theories have been brooded on, and planned carefully to acknowledge the games’ canon timelines. That said, I’m very excited about adding my personal interpretations for this story, and bringing these characters’ relationships and pasts to life.
Also, the book is quite fun and relaxing to doodle in. Pen scribbles only.
