At KCS, we take pride in offering these beautiful shawls that not only keep you warm but also add a touch of sophistication to your wardrobe.
The Art of Kalamkari
Kalamkari is a traditional Indian art form that dates back to ancient times. The word "Kalamkari" is derived from the Persian words "kalam," meaning pen, and "kari," meaning craftsmanship. This intricate art involves hand-painting or block-printing on fabric using natural dyes. Each design tells a story, often depicting scenes from mythology, nature, and folklore. The detailed patterns and vibrant colors make Kalamkari textiles highly sought after by art enthusiasts and fashion connoisseurs alike.
The Luxury of Pashmina
Pashmina, known as the "soft gold" of Kashmir, is a type of fine cashmere wool that comes from the undercoat of Himalayan mountain goats. The wool is renowned for its exceptional warmth, lightness, and softness. Creating a Pashmina shawl is a labor-intensive process, involving the careful hand-weaving of the wool into delicate yet durable fabric. The result is a shawl that feels like a whisper against the skin, providing unmatched comfort and elegance.
The Perfect Fusion: Kalamkari Pashmina Shawls
Combining the intricate beauty of Kalamkari art with the luxurious texture of Pashmina, Kalamkari Pashmina shawls are truly a work of art. These shawls for women showcase the best of both worlds, offering a unique accessory that is perfect for any occasion. Whether draped over your shoulders for a formal event or wrapped around you on a chilly evening, a Kalamkari Pashmina shawl is sure to make a statement.
Versatility in Style
One of the most appealing aspects of Kalamkari Pashmina shawls is their versatility. They can be styled in numerous ways to complement both traditional and contemporary outfits. Pair them with a saree or an ethnic dress for a classic look, or wear them with a modern ensemble to add a touch of elegance. The vibrant Kalamkari designs can also bring a pop of color to a simple outfit, making these shawls a versatile addition to any wardrobe.
A Sustainable Choice
At KCS, we believe in promoting sustainable and ethical fashion. Our Kalamkari Pashmina shawls are crafted using natural dyes and traditional techniques that have been passed down through generations. By supporting the artisans who create these beautiful pieces, we help preserve their cultural heritage and promote environmentally friendly practices. Venetian Clothes from 1840/1850
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We have little to no images for clothes worn by common people in this period. I have had the hardest time finding any paintings, and I only found one the I was sure it was actually from Venice. It is called "Una scena di festa, al Lido" of Robert McInnes. Most paintings from Italy in 1840/50 only show people from the south of Italy that had a completely different style of dress from the north. I have found a print form the period, of farmers form Bassano (Mountain city from the same region, which is good enough for me). There a plenty of paintings of Venetians from 1890 but none from the earlier years which is why I have not finished my outfit yet. I would love to dress up in clothes from my city at that time. The only way I could make an outfit is basing my research on only one painting and improvising the rest based on other paintings from Italy and knowledge from what upper classes where wearing. This is what I found:
•chemise: Very big and voluminous, gathered in front, back, and sleeves. Completly different from the chemises of the upper classes and with different construction. Always white, Ivory or red sometimes (only seen one example from Rome of a red chemise)
•corset: I can't find a garment that we are sure it is for peasants and the paintings are too blurred. The only thing I know is that it always have shoulder straps. There are so many variations of these corsets. They can be, closed in the back, open on front. Open in front and back. Open only in back. With straps tied by bow in the front, or back, or both. Researching corsets made me crazy. I chose a 1840 corset design that closes in the back, has a busk in front, cups and shoulder straps that tie in the front. The corset is never white like the upper class ones but because it shows, it's colourful like the skirts. Any colour could be used, also black and brown.
•Petticoat and skirt: both constred in the same way, but the petticoat is white and the skirt could be any colour you desire, but almost never black. Skirts are shorter and reach above the ankle or mid calf. Red, blue, light blue, pink, yellow where the colours I saw more frequently. Skirts could have:
-ruffle on the bottom
-black velvet strips on the end of the skirt (one big strip followed by a smaller one or just a big one)
-just plain
Always either cartridge pleated or densely pleated, very full. Cartridge pleated was more common for cottons and pleats for silks.
•shoes: boots 1850 style (side closure or buttons) or plain black flats made of leather or cloth. Almost always black. The flats could have silk ribbons that tie around the leg
•shalw: shalws where the signature of Venetian outfits and they where long and fringed (sometimes the had one single ruffle on the bottom)
The outfit for a peasant could be done already; no need for chemisettes and bodices. Going around in your corset was perfectly fine

Rowdy New Orleans partygoers on HORSEBACK take over intersection
Sound Health and lasting Wealth By Shalw October 31, 2023 It’s a horse, of course! Unruly crowds spilled out of a bar in a New Orleans neighborhood – including people on horseback – as out-of-control Halloween celebrations left streets trashed and residents fuming. Now, Mid-City residents are blasting the police  for ignoring their pleas for help as dozens filled an intersection around 8pm on…

2 updates on the birthday presents.
the other day some aunts and uncles and cousins and etc visited and they gave me a shawl. now, it's a very nice shalw but i've never really used shawls. i've decided that i'll make an effort to use it. it will stay in my closet, well prominent, for exactly 1 year. if i haven't taken off the tag and therefore worn it at least once by my next birthday, it's going on vinted.
the second update regards my new yarn bowl. i inspected it more closely and discovered that while the outside of it is perfectly refined, the inside is super scratchy. this is a problem because then the yarn balls aren't able to move and unravel themselves. i can't send this back since it was a gift and i do need a yarn bowl so i'll first try to sandpaper it and then perhaps ask help at my local hardware store. i'll keep you updated.

T e c h • e d i t i n g☆S h a w l s ☆ . The last two weeks are all about learning for me. . I'm planning to become a knitwear tech editor on the near future so I decided to take the opportunity and deeper my knowledge about shawls. Shawls, their charts, designs and constructions are always very complex and very enchanting for me, so what a great opportunity I had last week when Frenchie from @arohaknits offered again her amazing challenge " 5 shawls 5 days" again this year and her very detailed ebook: Forming Shawls and their charts!! . If you are in the same boat trying to deeper your understanding about all the various types of shawls and their specific characteristics and construction, this is a great place to start! I am learning a lot and understanding how little things affect and improve our designs, making them unique and ours! . Thank you / arigato, Frenchie! 🤗for all the good information and your dedication! 💗 . . . . . . . . . . . #joyfulyarn #5shawls5days #shawlknitting #shawlconstruction #knittersoftheworld #arohaknitsdesigns #arohaknits #triangularshawl #circularknitting #circularshawl #techediting #shawlknitters #shawl #minishawls #shalws #handknit #knittingismynewyoga #knitknitknit #alwaysknitting #knitting #knittingofinstagram #improvingskills #knittedshawl #challenge #learning #igknitters #igknitting #knittingpattern #knitwear #creativelive https://www.instagram.com/p/B_0ONIAplY5/?igshid=1ijuxfn75rwvt

I've got an extreme case of the lace rot folks. And no, this doesn't mean I've finished the beaded lace shawl, still have half of the edging chart to finish.
It's fine.
I have decided not to jump right into The Queen Susan, but that probably is something I am going to do at some point. A long-term project sounds like a good bit of fun. And I really do love knitting lace. I just haven't done Shetland lace. Or a square shawl. And it's been a long time since I've knit with cobweb thread.
So I'm going to start with something a bit less over the top. Just a bit. Still has to be with cobweb yarn, have similar construction and use Shetland techniques.
I've narrowed it down to three options. No, I am not open to more suggestions at this time (narrowing it down to three was hard enough!), but I am open to opinions on which option you think I should torture myself with.
Option 1 - she big. Still telling myself it's less intimidating than Queen Susan
Option 2 - doesn't meet all the criteria because it's knit from the out in, but it's pretty! And is absolutely less intimidating. Might hit my goal of being a ring shawl.
Option 3 - also a recreation. Also big. Also really beautiful.
Pretty sure I'll be using Cobweb Ultra yarn by Jamieson's of Shetland because I know where I can get it (sourcing cobweb yarn while trying to avoid shipping from the US isn't always easy).
Thoughts?

My only conclusion about dark academia adapting to tropical weather is that it should include embroidered blouses and shalws (rebozos) instead of blazers, at least during the hot months. Just that they should be in dark colors. And that's it?

new velvet shawls on Spring Full moon 🙏🏼 2020
We have been trying to make new velvet shalws and coats for the last 6+ weeks. Its slow work because i only go to the haveli once a week and measuring up in-between visits is impossible. Last night, i finally attached the sleeves. Its a custom fit, so no room for a feast - he had better not get any ‘bigger’ 😄

"Ladies Of The Canyon"
Trinna wears her wampum beads She fills her drawing book with lines Swing lace on widows weeds And filagree on leaf and vine Vine and leave are filagree And her coats a second hand one Trimmed in antique luxury She is a lady of the canyon Annie sits you down to eat She always makes you welcome in Cats and babies round her feet And all are fat and none are thin None are thin and all are fat She may bake some brownies today Saying, you are welcome back She is another canyon lady Estrella circus girl Comes wrapped in songs and gypsy shalws Songs like tiny hammers hurled At bevelled mirrors in empty halls Empty halles and bevelled mirrors Sailing seas and climbing banyans Come out for a visit here To be a lady of the canyon Trinna takes her pains and her threads And she weaves a pattern all her own Annie bakes her cakes and her breads And she gathers flowers for her home For her home she gathers flowers And Estrella, dear companion Colors up the sunshine hours Pouring music down the canyon Coloring the sunshine hours They are the ladies of the canyon

The sock yarn accumulated not because I make socks, I hardly even wear them, but because it’s perfect for doll sweaters. Then I never made that many doll sweaters. Not that I might not in the future. It’s just the sitting down and stringing as I have a book that taught me how to design knitting patterns. Just haven’t designed that many.
I don’t wear sweaters either, mostly because bare yarn against my skin would make me feel like I want to claw my skin off from the itchies :/ But I wear shalws and shoulder capes and things that remind me there’s no insulation in this place.
I’ll sleep under yarn blankets too, pretty warms are pretty warms.
Tumblr media
I have used this, in regular light the colors are stunning mint green and candy pink. The stitches are multiples of 6 in single, double, and treble crochet. It’s 1-2-3-3-2-1 OR 3-2-1-1-2-3 as long as the row you’re working on and the one below it add up to 4. You easily get in to a rhythm on it and it comes out soft and drapes nicely.
Tumblr media
In reality there’s 5 tubs of yarn waiting to become something. Sweaters in Hella re made from Red Heart but as I said I don’t wear sweaters. That’s a mix of ideas for projects, left overs, that’s pretty, that’s on sale, a Dr Who scarf, some useful colors from bags at the thrift store, and where the hell did that come from? Looking at you some of the what was I thinking self striping shit.
Tumblr media
I might have to break out the double tipped and make some gloves or at least arm protectors to keep the sun off of me. On top is the skein I hope I used a coupon or sale to get, in the mystery bag is a close enough to be a mate (unless anal grandma is still alive) and 5 muted friends. Really want to say this is Kroy Socks. Wanna be doll sweaters behind.
Tumblr media
The ha;f moon hanging out with some other shawls/wraps/scarves to be. The three pinkish and stripy in the bottom right corner are going to be another project. The rest should be single skein things.
Have not figured out what I’ll do exactly with the half moon nor could I find a sparkle black in the right weight. Something will be done with it.
Not pictured is the ball winder I used to make most of that in to those compact little cakes/center pull balls. You know what’s nice about having one? It allows me to buy the messed up skeins with missing or hand written bands at the store and leave the nice ones for those it matters more to. And cakes let you see the colors better.
As for other stuff I can’t say yet. Went out yesterday, didn’t find anything I set out to look for, but had my feet and arms covered up so it waits to be seen if I get any more PMLE spots.
The one on my leg has its own congress person. I was going to say it hasn’t seen daylight all century because all my outside pants are full length but I’ve worn pajamas out to check the mail. It hits right at the hem of most of my crop pajama pants.
It’s lovely to think that my skin now knows it can freak out at the mere mention of sunlight. What happens is it makes too much histamine and it comes out through the skin. It doesn’t get scaly like psoriasis and it’s not contagious.
There’s foods that are “high in histamines” etc but I’d rather stay out of the sun than give those up. A good amount are the things I need to combat the anemia or control the symptoms of my brain injury. I’m not officially doing the higher fat epilepsy diet but I’m not one of those low fat people. Hamburgers are an important part of my diet.
If you’re iron deficient and need a bit of sweet or crunch look in to graham crackers. Regular kind, not flavored ones aimed at kids, old fashioned bland diet keep the urges down ones :p. They’re higher in iron than some other snacks.
Immediate task, separate one last skein from a mystery bag of sock yarn. Three of them were sock and brown floof. The floof goes in the bin with other floofs as I have those knit your own cat and dog books. And a crochet your own dog book. And a crochet kittens pattern. And a box of plastic animal noses and eyes. And the knit a fantasy story book with animals. And the knit a farm book with animals. Then there’s the knit and crochet food books....
