A year ago today was my first time meeting with the @shakespeare2020la crew for our Antony and Cleopatra cue-to-cue. Since then I’ve done twenty readings with them, and even in a time that we had to spend away from live theatre, it was one of the best highlights of that time. And here are some of my specific highlights of the readings - Kate, Aufidius, Paulina, Feste… So incredibly grateful to each and every person who made these happen, and especially to @marycarrig and Jason Rennie for putting it all together. I’ve learned more about the Shakespeare canon than I ever thought I would in a single year, and developed some of the most beautiful friendships. I was Kate today in “Taming of the Shrew” with @shakespeare2020la - a role which I have dreamed of playing for years because of her complexity and dynamism. ❤️ Thanks to all these fantastic artists for making this one of the most enjoyable and connected acting experiences I’ve had since even before the pandemic. To celebrate our dear @meghanwells on her upcoming journey to Northwestern, some of the @shakespeare2020la kids finally all got together for dinner last night. What a profound feeling to finally be able to hug your fellow actors after having done so many shows with them. I cannot even begin to describe how much of a deeply positive effect these individuals (as well as the rest of the company) have had on my life in the past year, even just through a computer screen. I love you all so much. I love your talents, I love your drives, I love your hearts. Despite most live theatre not fully opening up until the last part of the year, I had twelve months jam-packed full of roles in 2021. A follow-up post to my last one, since I was too sad to post about it when it actually happened two months ago… I did twenty plays with the @shakespeare2020la crew, and my last one with them (the company’s second-to-last) was King John, with which all of us had a surprisingly huge amount of fun. Who would have known that one of the most obscure histories would become one of my favorites? These wonderful people became a sort of family to me during the months of the pandemic, and I couldn’t have asked for a better company of actors. I learned so much and it enriched my life beyond words. Thank you to Susan and Jaye for putting it on my radar and to @marycarrig for answering my random Facebook message and taking me onboard.
