Here's how I picture Shak to go along with that cross-country road trip art I posted a month ago.
Don't usually do full body drawings much, but I had this certain image in my head of Shak with her wearing these colors so I just had to draw it.

Dread Spellbound- Part 2.1
<Post season 2, Daniel has a small amount of dread magic inside of him. His friends are trying to trust him to fight it off, but it's hard, and the ghost of Jayce isn't helping.>
<Magic corruption, violence, not really a happy story. self sacrifice, death (kinda) forced transformation>
There are two endings, this is the ending in which Daniel isn't powerful enough to keep the Dread contained. Please read part 1 (this) first.
Daniel was taken aback. “I’ll try to call more often, promise.” Shak nodded, and was gone. The sound of deadbolts locking was nothing compared to the hammering of Daniel’s heart.
Jayce was angry with him. The Dread was angry with him.
The transformation came all at once. The horns spiraled out of his skull, bigger than ever before. The tail, it had came out before but now it grew out barbed and sharp, more like a weapon than another limb. Then it was the wings. A first time for everything, right? He screamed in agony as his back was ripped apart and blood spattered everything behind him. The dread would never let him bleed out, no, no, of course it wouldn’t. Of course, purple skin grew to fill in the holes.
When the pain had receded enough to let cognitive thought take over again, Daniel realized he had missed the sound of the deadbolts unlocking again. He saw Shak take another picture. She had heard him, she had seen him transform. It must have been horrible, but not as horrible as the dread would have him do to her.
“Don’t make me hunt her.” Daniel sobbed as the dreaded purple took over his face. “Run, Shak. Run.”
Shak did run, and Daniel was just strong enough to fight every urge to follow her until the door was locked again and he was trapped. Forever this time, he hoped.
“You. Do you know what you’ve done? You’ve doomed us!” Daniel tried but the transformation wasn’t going away. “We could have ruled the world, Kings! That is who we should be! But no, you’re loyal to this world that has brought nothing but misery to us. And so you’ve chosen death!”
As Jayce’s rage burned his body, Daniel struggled to breathe. “Of course I did. I’m a Spellbound, self sacrifice is kinda our thing.”
Jayce grabbed him, lifting him to his feet by his throat. “You will not die a Spellbound, you will not die a hero.” Jayce’s claws dug into his neck, only causing more blood to join the stuff starting to pool on the floor. “You will die a monster.”
Lucy had ignored the cameras she had set up in the Bodega for weeks now, but after Shak came to her, out of breath, she decided it was time to disrespect Daniel’s privacy. That didn’t matter much anyway, what was in there wasn’t Daniel, not anymore.
She called for her best Dowsers, she told Shak to go home and stay with Hoagie no matter what happened.
By the time they got to the bodega, whatever had become of Daniel seemed to have vanished. He shouldn’t have been able to get through the door, but he was gone. What remained was a lot of blood, and a ferryman’s token- a parting gift from what was left of Daniel Spellbound.
When they check the cameras later, they’d see Daniel howling in pain as the dread fully took him over, and then they’d see him glitch around the room, looking at the map that led both Daniel and Jayce to the coffer, and then vanishing forever
They would never find him, not even in the bermuda triangle which Lucy insisted they search top to bottom.
Daniel had a funeral, and during it Lucy repeated something she had heard Daniel say on the recording seemingly to no one. “He was a Spellbound, self sacrifice was kind of their thing. At least the Dread vanished with him."

Trying to keep a running tally of what we know re: character ages… I feel like that image of the guy with the conspiracy board who looks very haggard standing in front of it lol.
Daniel is “old enough to drive and be on his own” (assuming 18y)
Lucy is “slightly older than Daniel” (assuming 19y)
Hoagie is “not old enough to drive yet” (torn btwn assuming 15y and 17y? He seems young to me personally so I’m inclined to assume he’s closer to 15y or 16y but I’ve been wrong before)
Bixby is “an adult” (idk how old she is she has a babyface)
Jayce found the Cyclops Eye “before he was 20” and was locked in the Soul Box for 5 years (assuming he didn’t age in the Soul Box, I’ve put him around 20-21y. If he DID age in the Soul Box, he’s probably closer to 25y)
Shak “was a kid” the last time she was inside of Jayce’s hideout, which means she considered herself a “kid” 5-6 years prior, since Jayce DISAPPEARED 5 years ago but who knows how long he was out adventuring before that. I’m also assuming Shak and Hoagie are a similar age based on the way they interact. Shak has been confirmed younger than Hoagie. (Assuming she’s around 14y)
Burden is ???? old enough to know Daniel’s father (and Viktor Albright?) from before Daniel was born/when Daniel was a young kid, and “knows more about Daniel’s father” than what has been stated in the show so far. (I don’t have an estimate for him but he’s a Grown-Ass Adult™)
Elyse was probably around the same age as Lucy (assuming 19y) if they went to the Dowser Academy together.
Viktor is ???? years old! He was originally supposed to be hundreds of years old (“a sprightly 147 year old man”) and passing himself off as his son’s son’s son (Viktor Albright IV) but that didn’t necessarily make it into the final edit of the show so? He’s probably older than a human should be able to be tho. (Assuming at LEAST over 100y)
That’s all I have for now but I’ll probably update the info if I make any other connections !

I sat on these for a while bc I kept not being totally sold on the designs yet and they were still kind of sloppy (tho the Shak one was more recent), but gonna share anyway! Designs might still change a bit.
There's a part in the AU where they all p much get mer forms with using a temporary spell in order to visit a mer city for some specific information! Always loved stuff like that when it'd come up in media. Not sure if Hoagie will have another form or just be in a magic bubble still... Daniel is here too, but he's just in his amphibeast form then. I take inspiration from different sea life for the merpeople designs and aren't stuck to one thing while still usually sticking to some shared traits. Shak has a tail separate from her legs bc she had a variant spell to lessen the transformation bc she was scared about transforming so differently (tho who can blame her when all her close loved ones have ALL had traumatic TF happen to them!). The merpeople don't usually have hair or non-scaly skin, but air breathers will still keep some features from before and so they look a bit more distinct from true merfolk.

random Spellbound AU stuff... mostly Jayce and Lucy things but also a fun pic of Shak cause we talked about a thing where she gets one of the Amphibeast things as a pet (I think she deserves it and think it would be cute also gives me more of an excuse to draw one of them haha)

Dread Spellbound- Part 1
<Post season 2, Daniel has a small amount of dread magic inside of him. His friends are trying to trust him to fight it off, but it's hard, and the ghost of Jayce isn't helping.>
<Magic corruption, violence, forced transformation, not really a happy story.>
There are two endings, both will be linked at the end of this post. One in which the dread is stronger than Daniel, and one in which it's not.
Daniel Spellbound would quite literally always be scarred by Jayce Chinda. The permanent effect of wearing a dread corrupted, broken Chainscale, deep purple lines that glowed when he was stressed or angry. He had tried to hide it, but Hoagie could smell it. It was fragments of dread magic that were shocked into his skin by his own stubbornness and idiocy. Nothing short of giving him the same fate as Jayce would get rid of it, and it was such a small amount. Bursts of rage were nothing, as long as he could reign it in around others.
And in the beginning he could. Although worse days quickly came, thunderstorms seemed to make it worse, but also sometimes he just needed to rage. Soon enough, it wasn’t surprising for Shak and Hoagie to get kicked out of the bodega’s hidden basement so Daniel could scream and hit things without worrying about them. Lucy even only stayed behind once to try and fight him. The moment she saw his eyes start glowing, she locked him inside and told Shak and Hoagie to come stay with her.
The truth was, no matter how much Daniel claimed he could keep it back and that this would help him find the other remaining fragments, the sheer hunger the dread magic brought could corrupt anyone. The need for destruction, and the newfound frailty of every emotion but anger. There was a good chance no living thing could control it.
Within a few weeks, the dread magic’s grasp on Daniel had grown so powerful it had a voice, and only a short while later, a face.
The secret lair was quiet, usually. As much as the dread magic could impact him, it still left him lucid most of the time. It was hell, waiting for the next moment where he’d try ripping the door off its hinges even after he had helped Lucy figure out a way to dread-proof and reinforce it.
It was like he was sitting in his its open palm, and the moment he it started to close it into a fist…
“So, Spellbound. Will it be today?” It He always came accompanied by a headache. Daniel didn’t want to look, it only made things worse to see the face of dread. “Will you finally leave this dump? We’ve both read the texts, Dowser girl’s getting impatient, and so am I.” Daniel’s chin was grabbed and he was forced to look up at the white-eyed demon who haunted his waking and sleeping hours.
“Not my fault you have crippling claustrophobia, Chinda.” images of the soul box flashed in their shared mindspace. Not every thought was shared, but Jayce wanted him to see that. “I’m fine with staying in here for as long as I need to.”
“You’re going to break eventually. We were both trackers, don’t forget that. I know the feeling. The thrill of the hunt, don’t you miss it? Get out there, we could hunt anything. Isn’t there something you wanted to take on but couldn’t because of your little no magic rule?”
“Shut up.” Daniel growled. Finally Jayce let go of him, but the headache suddenly spiked and he could bone growing through the skin on his scalp. His horns weren’t the same as Jayce’s, they curled around his head, grazing  by his ears as they split through his skin and let blood drip down his neck. His headache stopped when they were done growing. “If you’re so powerful, haunt someone else.”
“I would never, Danny.” The worst part about seeing him was that Jayce almost never stopped smiling. “No one else is worth my time, no one else has ever been worth my time. I mean,” The demon almost laughed. “Who else would I haunt? The pig? Ms. Primus?” Shak went unsaid. Mentioning her just brought more rage and frustration to both of them. And despite it all, Jayce didn’t like being angry at himself.
“I’m sure you’d find some idiot to listen to you.”
“Come on, you’re the Dread Spellbound. You have to hear how epic that sounds.”
What Daniel heard was the first of many deadbolts being opened. Then another, and another. Jayce was grinning ear to ear as Daniel pulled his hood up in a poor attempt to hide the horns.
“Daniel? Are you awake?” Jayce had left Daniel’s side to dance around their visitor. He wasn’t able to touch her, but he’d do anything to distract and annoy Daniel.
“Shak? What are you doing here?”
“Oh come on, Danny, let her stay!”
“I know it’s late but I just…” Shak’s face fell as she saw the shapes under Daniel’s hood. “I need to tell Lucy.”
“NO!” Both dreaded spirits were in unison.
“I mean, I can still control it, Shak, I promise.” Daniel forced a smile. “They’re… It’s harder on a physical level since I’m not experienced with transformations. They’re just horns, I’m still me.”
Shak couldn’t decide whether or not she should believe him. “You’re bleeding.”
Daniel’s hand went to the side of his head, and then down to his neck. It was red and sticky when he brought it back to look. “Shit. Look, it just happened a minute ago. I hadn’t even thought to clean up. I’ll get that done later though, what did you need?” His voice wasn’t betraying his nervousness.
“I just wanted to check in.” Shak suddenly looked sad, guilty almost. “I guess I wanted to prove to Lucy and Hoagie that you were doing fine.”
“I’m not.” Daniel admitted, ignoring Jayce’s annoyance that sent tingling numbness up through his scarred arm. “I think I found its weakness though, boredom. I haven’t had the urge to actually destroy anything in…” he faltered. “I destroyed the last clock down here a while ago. I have no idea how long it’s been.”
“I don’t think I can trust that, Daniel.” In his momentary distraction he hadn’t noticed Shak taking a picture of him with his bloody horns. “Lucy needs to know about this.”
“Don’t let her leave, Spellbound.” Jayce warned him. “Dowser girl would kill you, like you did to me.”
“I just need time.” Daniel promised, to Shak and himself, “See? I can take back the horns.”
Shak couldn’t decipher the look he gave to Jayce, it was a reminder that if he died, the dread went with him. Jayce, the Dread rather, reluctantly, pulled the horns back into his skull. The holes that should have been left behind were nowhere to be seen.
“You… really can control it.”
“Mostly. But it’s still not safe for you to be down here. Go back to Lucy.”
“I miss you. I think Hoagie and Lucy do too.” Shak blurted out.
End of Part 1

Family dinner
Another part of the uncorrupted Jayce au!!
This is just a little fluff, I wanted to get it out of my head. This is kind of Daniel/Jayce/Lucy if you want it to be.
(I wrote this forever ago but just never posted it. Happy pride, they're domestic for once.)
<To everyone’s surprise, Daniel is the only one in the Spellbound corp who knows to how to cook.>
Lucy picked up on the second ring. “Hello?”
“We need your help settling a bet.” Jayce immediately stated, despite it having been Daniel’s phone calling.
“Okay…?”
“Can you cook?”
“I never really had to.” She admitted, Daniel could faintly be heard cursing in disappointment. “The bureau usually supplies meals 24/7. Why?”
Instead of an answer, Daniel called to the phone from a distance. “Get your butt over here, we’re having dinner.” His storming away could practically be heard over the phone.
“Well that’s romantic.” Lucy sighed. “Jayce? You still there?”
“Yep.”
“Care to explain?”
“I have... no idea.” He admitted. “But I want to see where it’s going. I think he’s trying to teach Shak and Hoagie to cook.”
“Oh, so he’s trying to poison us.”
-
Dinner was not burnt, poisonous, or venomous, despite expectations. In fact, spaghetti had not been expected at all by Jayce or Lucy who had been pushed out of the kitchen under the premise of dinner being a surprise.
And yet, somehow, they were all conversing (mostly) peacefully over a dish of pasta. Minutes turned into hours and sure, Daniel sharply pointed out how he was the only one who knew how to cook, and that someone had to teach Shak and Hoagie how to. And yes, Shak then talked everyone into a cooking competition where everyone was teamed up against him. Lucy learned that the number of restaurants that use magic to cook is higher than she knew about, thanks to Jayce mentioning how it was typical for trackers to supply for them.
Shak and Hoagie retired early and tried to leave cleanup for everyone else, but dirty dishes were left alone for once when Jayce dragged Daniel to just sit on the couch for a minute and Lucy followed.
“Can you two finally tell me what caused this then? Not that I’m complaining.”
Jayce shot a glare at Daniel. “Someone stole my phone to stop me from ordering in again.”
“You were going to order from a magic pizza place! I don’t eat magic, Jay!”
“You already broke that rule.”
“Wait what?” Lucy got shot two looks that told her not to ask. “Okay hold on. You two have been roommates for over a month, have you seriously just been ordering in?”
“I’ve been taking Shak out to restaurants.” Daniel corrected. “But other than that, yeah. Not sure how Jay survived so long on his own.”
“Very easily, since I don’t need to worry about making my own food. Santana, you agree with me, right?”
“I’m not sure I want to,” Lucy held up her hands in surrender. “It’s late, I’m headed back to the bureau. I’ll come back if we ever have a family dinner again, okay?”
Shak was eager to learn something, even if it wasn’t tracking, from her family. So home cooked dinners became somewhat frequent in the Spellbound hideout, as did visits from Lucy.

In the Bleeding Magic AU, I have that Daniel starts gradually turning into an "amphibeast" and they aren't sure why and he tries hiding it from the others for a while bc he wants to figure it out on his own, till things get a bit out of hand and the others only find out around this moment.
In my version, I have that Jayce used him at the beginning when they first met when he was trying to get into the coffer by having some of his blood used as part of a key on unlocking it (this having to do with his family bloodline to the Spellbounds who sealed it away), and doing so triggered that ancient family oath of protection magic or curse, really, and is causing this now for him every time the Dread starts getting more out of control. So now they're kind of interlocked with that! Fun!
Jayce only knew to some extent that SOMETHING might happen from doing so, but had NO idea what that might entail, and at the time... he didn't really care what happened to Daniel if it meant getting what he wanted! He felt a little bad bc he helped reunite him with Shak, but not bad enough lol Unfortunately for Jayce at this point of the story tho, he's gotten attached enough to Daniel to actually care and does feel bad now. He'll do his best to try and give answers and fix this...
