For the record, I don’t imagine Shaggy and Daphne ever get married, or even ever “officially” started dating.  It was a slow gradual thing and one day they look around and realize that they made a family with them, their 2 dogs and adopted son.  It was just so natural compared to everything else in their lives that they never really thought about it and it just happened.

Fred and Velma got married in the ’70s, a few years after Shaggy and Daphne got married. Both of them had kids of their own.

Shaggy and Daphne’s son’s name is Daniel Nathaniel Rogers. Kelly Cara Jones is the daughter of Fred and Velma.

Daniel reaches 5’9” in height and weighs about 135 lbs. He’s naturally skinny. He inherited his mother’s Danger-proneness. He loves to wear leather jackets.  He inherited his father’s hunger. He always dresses well when he goes outside the house, but while in his home, he just wears Shorts and a white t-shirt. He loves to prank his dad.

Kelly reaches 6’0” and she’s not the dumb jock like her father or bookworm like her mother. She’s more like the rebel of the group.

The African Family name is Gruden. The son of that family’s name is Wesley Douglas Gruden. He loves to do parkour around the houses and loves finding challenges. The Mexican Family changed their names for their safety because they were retired spies for the USA in other countries. Their new surname is Grubberg.  The daughter’s name is Gretchen Heidi Grubberg.

I need a Scooby Doo remake ala riverdale like can’t you see it? Fred is the preppy popular kid who’s obsessed w engineering and tries to hide it, he comes off so clueless but he’s a math wiz who doesn’t wanna look like a dork. Meanwhile he totally has the hots for Velma, even tho Daphne is obsessed w him. Velma, old school gamer, beer drinker, biker, jeans and a witty tee shirt wearer, nineteen pairs of weird glasses Velma who is super mellow and down to earth. And shaggy, wrong side of the tracks, pot smoking, stick and poke tattooed Shaggy. He likes animals more than people, stutters when confronted or bullied bc people think he’s weird but his anxiety prevents him from socializing unless he has his pup there to calm him down. And rich, beautiful Daphne, stupidly obsessed w Fred and not realizing that Shaggy is clearly the one for her. She’s the one he really trust, he never seems to stutter around her, she makes him calm and braver. Then someone starts terrorizing the town and it takes their combined skills and connections to figure out what’s happening. YOU GUYS I NEED THIS.

They don’t talk about the kiss.

At least, they don’t talk about the kiss for as long as they can, but things like that don’t just go away forever. They have a habit of popping up again when you least expect them to.

Weeks into their escapade across the country, weeks into stopping along the way at every haunted roadside attraction they come across and unmasking mystery after mystery to leave a string of odd happenstances in their wake, Daphne quietly lets herself into Shaggy’s room of the hotel that they’re currently staying in. She knows Fred is distracting Scooby for her, so she knows that Shaggy will be all alone.

“Oh, hey, Daph,” Shaggy says, glancing up at her. He frowns immediately at her troubled expression and mutes the television program he’s watching. “Like, you alright?”

“No,” Daphne answers. She is decidedly not alright. “Do you remember the night we stayed at the Burlington Library?” she asks without preamble.

Shaggy laughs, a little nervously. “Like, the night with the spooky smoke that made us all hallucinate terrifying things? Yeah, I remember.”

Daphne gestures to the bed in a silent question, and Shaggy sits up a little and scoots over before gesturing at the free space for her. She takes the invitation and sits down, her face twisted into a grimace.

“Why?” Shaggy asks.

Daphne hesitates for a moment, unsure of how exactly to proceed. Tact isn’t always her strongest suit, much to the chagrin of her parents and sisters— or at least, it had been before their entire timeline had changed.

“Do you remember… kissing me?”

Shaggy lets out another nervous laugh. “Well, yeah, like, of course. But it was just the smoke making me think I was Freddy,” he says, fidgeting with his fingers. “And like, making you think I was Freddy. Remember?”

“Yes, I remember,” Daphne replies. Frustration leaks out of her tone, though, and she sees Shaggy flinch back from it. She frowns some more. “But then you called me an angel.”

A slow redness begins to creep up Shaggy’s neck. “What?”

“You said kissing me was like kissing an angel,” she presses gently, trying her best to not push too hard. “Shaggy… I think I want to kiss you again.”

Dumbfounded, Shaggy just blinks at her for a long moment. “What about Fred?” he finally asks, his voice cracking in the middle of his sentence.

“We’ve spoken about it,” she says quickly. She doesn’t really want to talk about that particular conversation right now, about how she still loves Freddy but how some part of her wants to love Shaggy, too. About how Fred had been confused, and hurt, but ultimately wanted the best for her and for them, for all of them. “He’s okay with it. I promise.”

Trust is something that they all have problems with. They don’t trust outsiders very easily, given how well that had turned out for them in the past. But trust is also something they implicitly have in one another. Daphne wouldn’t lie about something like this, and the one look that’s shared between them is all it takes for Shaggy to know it. She sees the moment it connects for him, that this is really happening, because the very tips of his ears go red and he clears his throat and looks away from her.

“So, like… okay,” he says. “Now what?”

It’s now or never. “Now, I kiss you,” she says simply.

Slowly, Shaggy looks up at her again, and his gaze lands immediately on her lips. She smiles encouragingly at him and leans forward, shifting on the mattress so that she can reach him. He shifts, too, scooting towards her inelegantly in a move that’s so delightfully Shaggy that it makes Daphne’s heart skip a beat. How she wound up falling in love with him like this, she’ll never know, but she can’t deny the feelings any longer.

When they’re close enough, Daphne surges forward, reaching up to wrap her arms around Shaggy’s neck to keep him there. She feels Shaggy’s hands cradle her cheeks so, so gently, like he’s holding something fragile, and she finds herself smiling into their kiss. Fred always kisses her possessively, and it reminds her that she’s wanted, but the way Shaggy holds her like she’s something precious makes her feel wanted in a completely different way. Kissing him again makes her feel whole in a way she didn’t know was possible.

It feels bizarrely like coming home, and the glazed, blissed-out look on Shaggy’s face when she finally pulls away makes her heart flutter uncontrollably.

“Still feel like kissing an angel?” Daphne teases, as gently as she can. Shaggy flushes anyway, but he doesn’t move away from her. Instead, his thumb brushes along her cheekbone softly, absently, and he smiles nervously at her, and yes, this is just what she’s been missing all along.

It's not something I think I've seen you draw before, but how do you feel about Shaggy x Daphne? In some series in the franchise, I think it works (13 Ghosts and the first two live action movies especially).

oh man!!! this is a big one for me yeah! it never really occurred to me watching the live actions but in 13 ghosts – definitely. there’s the one episode where daphne goes all sleeping beauty and she needs a kiss of true love and, against years and years of fred/daph and shaggy/velmster i was like oh BOY shagster better smooch her. it was that day i realised i could ship poly mystery inc and nobody could stop me, and any and all combos of fred+daphne+shaggy+velma are good. are great.

but specifically shag and daph??? love it. in my personal modern AU they’re the furthest from each other in terms of upbringing (rich girl, poor boy) (can you say diamonds on the soles of her shoes as a song for them?) and initially daphne’s more an alpha bitch who might sneer down on him a bit, but as they get to know each other she’s amazed by how generous this boy is despite growing up with very little, and she desperately wants to shower him with affection. and also - stuff. she buys him so much stuff, mainly clothes and at first she starts trying to buy him fashionable, nice, smart things in a desperate bid to shape him from thrift store scruff to the kinda guy her mother would approve of, but after a while she realises that he’s just not comfortable like that, so she stops trying to get him to comb his hair and instead starts finding things in vintage stores that still suit him, but they’re nicer than his pre-owned-by-like-five-people tees and jeans.

in return, shaggy practices baking to impress her. (he’s good at making burgers and the greasy, truck-stop stuff that he, fred, velm and scoob all wolf down, but daphne’s a superfood shakes kinda gal). so he practices making gluten free desserts and tries super, super hard to make them pretty. at her giant fancy birthday bash, he makes her a cake and even wears a suit she picked for him, even though his ruffled 70s shirt was begging him to wear it. yeah, i LOVE shaggyxdaphne. thanks for asking!
