I love Steel but she's mostly a set piece for the DADow headcanon + Mephiles motivation for yoinking Silver.

Shadsteel is a ship that lasts one day in practice, but it lingers for the rest of the time they're alive because of the impact of it.

I THOUGHT OF A WHAT IF-

What if Shadow found out about Steel and Silver?? Would the outcome have changed for their deaths?? Or would it still happen? Would Silver have a semi-normal life?

If Shadow knew before Mephiles told (and killed) him, I think Shadow would be more cautious and be less reckless than otherwise. He has something dear to him to fight for, more personal than a planet he's felt detached from. Also, since Steel insists he takes care of himself when with her and Silver, he'd actually be stronger because he's not fighting exhaustion and burnout.

Silver would grow up more scared, since the looming threat of Mephiles, but he'd be better in the long term because he wasn't lied to. Also Silver wouldn't break his leg.
