Jace leads Clary to Hodge, but hesitates when he sees an open door. He finds himself pausing to admire the scene, leaning on the door frame with a crooked smile. Clary moves to get a better view and is confused.
A girl sits in a windowsill, her pencil hitting the paper lightly as she sketches out the scenery outside the window. The light appears to angle just right, giving her an almost angelic presence. Black runes cover her skin, some disappearing to hide under her clothes.
Clary leans over to Alec and whispers. "Who is that?"
Alec simply nods a little. "Y/N. Jace has a thing for her, but he's never acted on it." Clary feels her heart break a little. "Shame, really. She likes him too, but they're both too stubborn to be the one to confess."
"Oh..."
"My advice," Alec looks between her and the room, "stay away from Jace."
He moves on before she can ask much else, walking along the halls and calling to Jace quietly. Jace is brought back to reality as he gives one last look into the room before venturing on.
"So, Y/N..." Clary tries.
She doesn't miss when Jace blushes slightly, "another Shadowhunter. She's been here a long time, however she really only talks to me."
"Why's that?"
He chuckles a little but shakes his head. "That's none of my business to tell. She's a great person when you get to know her though." That's all the information he gives before they reach their destination. He opens the door and gestures inside with a nod.
His expression stays neutral, stoic as he explains, "You may find Hodge a little eccentric, but he's one of the greatest Shadowhunters that's ever lived." He looks down at the cloth in her hand and his brows furrow. "Here, give me that."
She walks inside of the giant room, her body and eyes exploring. The two boys walk in after her. They watch her carefully. Despite her distance, Clary can still hear Jace and Alec by the door.
"Don't lead this one on while you pursue your little loner. You'll get her hopes up, and if she decides to stay...the rune to fix a broken heart is the most painful one." She could practically feel Jace roll his eyes.
"I'm not leading her on."
"Oh? Is that so? Because I don't normally go around flirting and being handsy with random people, Jace." Alec warned. "It's obvious, the way Clary looks at you. I'd tone down your 'lack of leading her on' before she gets the wrong idea."
The doors shut suddenly, causing Clary to flinch, and Alec storms off down the hall, leaving Jace to think over his words. The more he thought about it, the more he tried to deny it.
Jace opens the door, "The Silent Brothers are ready for her."
When Clary and Jace set off for their next location, she noticed a new companion had replaced Alec. It was the girl from before. The girl that Jace liked.
"I didn't expect you to be joining us..." She tries to make conversation, but Y/N barely acknowledges her.
"I admire your attempt, but she won't talk. Not unless she's comfortable with you." Jace smiles at the girl in question, who smiles to herself but stays quiet.
"How long would that take?"
"Patience is a virtue, Clary." Jokes Jace. "I suppose I was the first person who ever really tried, so there's not much to go off of. She's coming with us because I asked her too."
The redheaded girl can't help but glance between the two every now and then. She isn't sure whether she feels jealous or wants them to be together, but she can say one thing for sure; The tension was nauseatingly strong.
"Why didn't Hodge come with us?"
"He hasn't left the institute in years." Jace shrugs as he continues walking. "Some say it's a spell."
"He's agoraphobic." Y/N giggles at Clary's bluntness, leading to the ginger giving her a small smile. One she returned. They stop and turn, Jace crossing his arms while he waits.
"Is that him?" Clary asks.
Jace follows her gaze and shakes his head. "No, that's Harold, the groundskeeper." He tilts his head, leaning in a bit, "that's him."
She looks up a little and feels a small shiver of unease crawl up her spine. A comforting hand is felt on her shoulder, and she's met with Y/N's smile when she turns her head. The action leaves her wondering how obvious her discomfort was, but she still is thankful.
"Are you sure you want to go through with this?" Clary looks to the two as though asking for help, but nods regardless. "We will help you to remember."
The trio follow the tall robed man, Clary a little more hesitant. Y/N turns, kind smile still standing, and lifts a finger to the middle of her lips. Clary nods and follows behind.
Along the way she trips, "Ow!"
Jace turns his head instantly, shushing her. "You'll wake the dead."
Clary rolls her eyes. She catches Y/N giving her an apologetic shrug, the girl nodding with her head to continue.
"I can't believe this place is just outside of the city..."
She follows the duo to the window like ledge they looked through. Jace's voice catches her off guard, "Welcome to the City of Bones." His breath is right next to her ear, sending her hairs to stand on their ends.
"This is where the Silent Brothers draw their power, from the bones and ashes of Shadowhunters."
"All of them are buried here?"
"Yes." Jace looks to the wall, "One day," he taps a skull, making Y/N giggle, the sound eliciting a smile to slide upon his pink lips, "that's gonna be me."
Clary stops to look at the skeleton. Sensing her unease, Y/N urges her forward with a light touch. Clary stops a few steps forward, inspecting the room from entryway.
"This is as far as we go." She looks at Jace, and he assures her, "You'll be fine."
"So you've done this before?"
Y/N and Jace exchange a glance. She dawns an apologetic look as shakes her head and Jace replies, "No."
Clary decides to continue to try and talk to Y/N, "Have you ever met Magnus Bane?"
The girl only shakes her head.
"You know... I'm quite jealous of you." Clary admits with a laugh. Y/N tilts her head in confusion, prompting Clary to continue. "I thought Jace was into me, and if I'm being honest, I'm really into him but... I'd be stupid to stand in your guys' way."
Her brows furrow, even more confused than before. Clary's hopes range from high to doubtful, there's a chance Alec was wrong, that she didn't have feelings for him, but she saw the way the two looked at each other. She might've been naïve and clouded in her conflicting feelings, but she wasn't blind.
"Jace likes you too. And honestly...you should go for it." She looks away, ashamed of her own assistance in helping the guy she liked be with someone else. However, she doesn't have time to mope, when a voice she hasn't heard before causes her to snap her eyes back to Y/N's face.
"Is it that obvious?" A shy expression, laced with a little embarrassment, greets her.
"You-"
"I talk, yes." She chuckles. "Jace wasn't lying. I mostly talk to him, but after I realized my feelings for him, I started to confide in Alec. My only problem was that I didn't realize Alec also had feelings for Jace... But, Alec saw how much I love Jace, and told me that he had found interest in someone else. Whether that's true or not, I don't know, but, my feelings for Jace have always been around since then. I'm just...not too sure what to do about it."
Clary nods understandingly, and places her hand atop Y/N's. "Talk to him."
Y/N thinks about it for moment, and then nods. "Thank you."
"Hey. Can we talk?" Jace turns, nodding when he realizes it's Y/N. The blond looks around the infirmary, making sure Simon and Clary are accounted for one more time before he returns to facing her. He follows her to the study, sitting beside her on the piano seat.
"What's wrong?"
Her fingers press into the keys, a slow recollection of a piece by Bach. "It's nothing... I spoke to Clary-'
"You talked to Clary?" Y/N giggles at his dumbfounded expression. "M'sorry, that just caught me a little off-guard, you don't normally talk to anyone else."
"That's fair. Basically, she gave me some advice to a problem I have, not that I asked her for it- she actually noticed it- anyways, after Simon and the vampires and everything- I guess- my point is, Jace..."
"Yes?" His eyes were laced with concern, no longer amused by her sudden socializing.
"I like you. Like, really really like like you." She bit her lip. "Like...I'm in love with you."
Y/N stared at Jace, waiting for his answer. She grew nervous as time started to feel slower. The seconds felt like they were snail's paced, so close yet so far away. Sweat dripped down her forehead and her heartbeat rang in her ears. It was all so overwhelming until-
"I'm in love with you too."
"You what?"
Jace smiled shyly. "I'm in love with you too. I've been for a long time now." His eyes trace over her lips, the distance between them closing gradually. He hovers above her lips when his eyes meet hers again.
It's all in slow motion and superspeed at the same time. She lets go of control and lets her instincts take the reigns. Her lips crash into his and he lets out a surprised groan. Their eyes both close as they kiss one another, their lips partaking in a dance they somehow know. By the time they pull apart, they're out of breath and their eyes are blown.
"How long?"
She blinks. "Pardon?"
"How long have you been waiting to do that?"
"If I'm being honest, a month or so after we met. What about you?" Y/N giggles.
"Since we first met."
Clary leans against the door, heart half broken and half full, yet content with herself. Maybe she should look into what Simon's benefits are.

Partners in crime - Shadowhunters.
Summary: You’re Magnus Bane’s best friend and fellow warlock, when Shadowhunters ask for help you take the job together.
Warning: Mentions of nightmares, skimpy pyjamas (idk what you’d call them tbh), playful teasing between friends, fluff.
Pairing: Magnus bane x Warlock!reader (Platonic).
Word count: 1,336.
The sun scorched across my face through a gap in the curtains. I dramatically huffed as I glared at the curtains in disdain, knowing I wouldn't fall asleep again. I stretched with an obnoxiously loud yawn, humming contently as my bones popped in a chorus.
Discomfort quickly set in from the glaring light and I raked my fingers through my hair before swinging my legs from the bed and trudging towards the door. My dreams had kept me up a good portion of the night and in the end, I crawled into bed with Magnus which kept them at bay.
"Mags?" I called through the quiet loft, "Mags, why do you never close the curtains properly?" I searched the loft half asleep for my flatmate only to come up empty. I straightened out my shorts as I wandered to the kitchen, letting the growl of my stomach lead me.
My pyjama vest rose up my stomach as I reached to grab a bowl and I shivered at the cold air of my exposed midriff.
Shuffling towards the living room, I failed to notice the gathering of people until the sound of someone clearing their throat caught my attention. I nodded hello to the group sleepily, gathering my thoughts as I ate my breakfast. I snapped out of my sleepy state as Magnus appeared in front of me protectively.
"Good morning, my dearest, I'll make sure to close them properly from now on shall I?" The question was rhetorical but I nodded anyway, placing my now empty bowl on the table. "Now, as much as I love seeing you half-dressed," Magnus teased with a playful wink. "I'm not sure how much longer Simon can watch without holding his drool back so how about we cover you up." I sighed but let his magic swirl around me, a beautiful, feathered robe appearing around my body.
The fabric brushed the ground as I stepped forward and planted myself into Magnus' chest in a tight hug. He reciprocated, both lost in the cuddle and temporarily forgetting about the group awkwardly standing behind him. Unfamiliar people weren't going to stop me from having my morning cuddle, they could wait.
"Thank you, my love," I whispered, pressing a small kiss to his cheek before peering up at him quizzically. "so, who do we have today?"
"Shadowhunters and Vampires," I moved to stand beside him, smiling at the small sea of faces, some of which smiled back whilst others remained blank. A huge smile overtook me and my eyes softened as my es met Raphael's gaze. I knew he had turned away when I appeared in my pyjamas, he always felt awkward and refused to see me in a vulnerable state, saying it wasn't proper. I understood considering Magnus and I had practically raised him since vampirism. Though he hated to admit it, he was my boy but he had a reputation to hold up and such so I let him seem hardened and cold, sometimes.
"Hello my lovely boy," I held his face in my hand gently, looking at his handsome face before putting my arms around him. He kissed my cheek and hugged me back before clearing his throat, letting me step back towards Magnus. I sniggered as he glared at the group of shocked Shadowhunters, daring them to say something. "Play nice Rafe."
"This is Y/N, best friend for all intents and purposes, partner in crime and partnering warlock." I grinned, bowing playfully at the group who stared at me strangely.
"Y/N, these are the Shadowhunters of the New York Institute. This is Alexander," I noticed the twinkle in his eye at that name. "Jace, Clarissa and Isabelle. The new vampire is Simon, he's with Raphael." He gestured to each respectively and I looked over each of them.
"Nice to meet you all. What can we do for you then?" I let my eyes stay on Alexander a little longer than the others, taking in his tall muscular stature and handsome face.
"So, are you two, like, a thing or?" He trailed off and I raised an eyebrow, looking up at Mags and our grins matched.
"No," I chuckled, shaking my head, "We've been best friends and partners for a few centuries. Most people do assume that though." A gentle hand squeezed my hip and I leant into it softly.
"You seem close enough, you're kind of handsie too," I raised a curious eyebrow at the young vampire, enjoying his curiosity though going off the look on Raphael's face he didn't.
"We've lived together for a long time, and known each other even longer. We come as a pair, can't have one without the other but that doesn't have to mean we're together in that way." I grinned at him, my magic swirling through my fingers languidly. "Curiosity is a fine thing Simon but you should be careful who you're curious about, might just bite you in the ass." I chided him softly, using a small spell to deliver a small biting sensation on his butt. He yelped and jumped, laughing nervously, but grinning widely all the same. I liked him, he seemed sweet.
"And you wonder why Raphael doesn't play nice," Magnus tutted, an amused twinkle in his eye. I hummed before turning back to the matter at hand.
"Now, I've heard you're causing quite the stir in the Shadow world Clary Fray, what is Magnus getting us into now?"
"I need help getting my Mom back, Valentine has taken her," A shiver ran down my spine at that name but I motioned for her to continue. "I don't know where he's taken her but I could do with all the help I can get and I've been told you guys are the best warlocks to ask." I thought about it seriously, biting my lip as I did. "I don't want to cause any trouble but Magnus knows about some of my past memories, ones he blocked that could help me find her." I walked towards her, cupping her face in my hands, hushing her gently. I tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and let my thumb wipe away one of her tears with a gentle smile.
"Sweet girl, we'll help however we can as long as it's not a threat to the Downworld." She nodded gratefully, mouthing her thanks as her chest shuddered with a heavy breath. "I can't promise we can remove them but we can damn well try."
"Mama, it's not that simple." Raphael interrupted, looking furious. "We shouldn't get involved in shadowhunter business. They cause nothing but trouble for us." He spoke through gritted teeth, a hard glare fixed on Jace who leered back at him. These two obviously didn't get along.
"Rafe, sweetie, you can't justify not helping them because of that. That would make us just as bad as the Clave now wouldn't it?" I crossed my arms, looking at him disapprovingly. We raised him better than this, his anger was just clouding his judgement. "If things get too much then we'll walk away won't we Mags?" I glanced towards my partner who agreed with me. "You know that's how we work, my darling, we don't bite off more than we can chew." I made sure to emphasise so the Shadowhunters knew where we stood, looking pointedly at Jace whose glare never faltered. Perhaps my comment about the Clave had touched a nerve.
"Well, if you come back tomorrow we can get started, we have stock to replenish and things to organise, I'm sure you understand." Magnus began to shoo them closer to the door, waving them goodbye as I hugged Raphael. He paid special attention to bidding Alexander goodbye and I couldn't help my smirk as I made him a drink. It was 5 o'clock somewhere in the world after all.
"I can't help but feel like the next few days are to be exhausting." I handed the glass to him and nodded solemnly. There was no doubt about that.

When the darkness comes | Tommy Shelby x Shadowhunter!Reader - Part 4
Summary: you are a shadowhunter investigating the sudden rise of yin fen in the Downworld, the trail leads you to Small Heath and a blue eyed gangster.
A/N: I'm not sure about how this part turned out. Anyway, thanks for reading it. English isn't my first language, sorry if there are mistakes!
Warning: nothing.
Part 3 - Peaky Blinders Masterlist
Usually, patrolling the streets was boring. Not tonight. You had been following the trail of a ravener demon for about half an hour without it noticing. It was the first demon you had encountered in Small Heath since your arrival.
Luckily, it was a minor one and not very smart. Its disgusting appearance, a mix between a centipede and crocodile with some scorpion parts, made your stomach turn. Sometimes these kinds of demons were used to follow someone or to keep an eye on something.
That’s why you weren’t surprised when the ravener moved around all the places that were clearly Shelby territory. More specifically, the parts of Small Heath dedicated to their non legitimate businesses. So, without any doubts, the demon had something to do with the yin fen.
However, you didn't think it was directly related to the Shelbys.
That is, someone external, maybe the one responsible for sending them the drug so that they could distribute it throughout England and export it to America, was the one controlling the ravener. It could be a warlock’s work. Also, there were probably more than one demon, although you hadn’t seen others, which could be a problem if they decided to attack you in group.
Tired of walking around the city among piles of garbage and puddles from the same place to the next, you took out of your coat one of your seraph blades and got ready to finish off the ravener.
“Uriel,” you said out loud, giving a name to the blade. Instantly, it lit up, filled with angelic power as it brought light into the darkness.
At that moment, the demon noticed your presence. You already knew that the poor thing wasn’t very clever. It lunged at you with quick movements, trying to reach you with its disgusting insect-like legs. You moved faster thanks to a heightened speed rune. The seraph blade traced luminous arcs through the fog as well as the ravener’s body.
With a screech and a gush of dark ichor, the demon disappeared. They didn’t die, instead, they returned to their own dimension. You observed the light from the blade fading away, it was covered in ichor and it was starting to corrode so you dropped it, no longer useful. At least the ravener’s blood hadn’t splash all over yourself or your clothes.
You scrunch your nose for a moment, looking around. There were no signs of more demons but the night was still long until dawn. With a sight, you closed your coat to protect yourself from the cold wind and continued patrolling.
A couple hours later, you headed to The Garrison. A drink or two wouldn’t hurt.
The warmth of the pub welcomed you like a hug. You appreciated the cosy atmosphere, despite the noise of the drunk customers laughing and talking. So you headed to the bar, where you sat in one of the seats and rested your head on your hand.
After a while, you felt the presence of someone next to you, so close that their arm was brushing against yours. Slowly, you turned your head and watched him through your eyelashes, blinking lazily. “Good night, Tommy.”
He nodded, watching you closely. “Long night?”
You nodded back. "You have no idea. By the way, I'm not following you, in case you were wondering. I just wanted to get something to drink," you said quietly.
Tommy chuckled and turned to the bartender. He ordered a couple of bottles and glasses before turning to you, placing his hand on your lower back. "Come with me, we can talk in a quieter place."
Without removing his hand from your back, he guided you to the private room at the side of the pub. After closing the doors behind him, the noise was muffled and distant. You took off your coat and sat down on one of the seats, resting your head against the wall. Tommy sat by your side, watching you like someone does with an exotic animal. He lit a cigarette and started smoking in silence.
The small window opened, revealing the bartender with Tommy’s order. He got up to pick it up and left it on the table. Your eyes followed him, too tired to move.
"I'd like you to try something," he said, pouring a clear liquid into one of the glasses and setting it down in front of you.
You grabbed the glass and brought it to your face, smelling the contents. "What is it?"
“Try it,” he replied, leaning back in the chair, never taking his eyes off your face. At your expression of rejection, Tommy rolled his eyes and took the glass from your grasp, brushing his fingers against yours and drinking it in one gulp. “It isn’t poisoned, see? I just want you to try it and give me your honest opinion.”
You had learned the hard way not to drink or eat things offered by strangers, more specifically if those strangers were fairies. One could never trust them. However, you had already ruled out the possibility of Tommy being a fairy, right?
"Okay, I'll try it."
Tommy poured another glass and slid it in front of you. You took a small sip and hummed softly.
"Well?" he asked, putting out the cigarette in the ashtray.
You shrugged. "It's sweet, I suppose," you said unconvinced. "I don't drink regularly, so I don't know. It's not bad."
"Not bad..." he murmured.
You grabbed the bottle and turned it in your hands, looking at the label. "Gin," you read aloud, "distilled for the eradication of the seemingly incurable sadness... Shelby Company Limited, it’s your own gin?"
"It's part of the business," he explained as he sipped his whiskey.
As you finished the contents of your drink, a sudden wave of warmth spread through your chest, so you rolled up your shirt sleeves. That night you had discarded your shadowhunter gear and had decided to wear a simple white shirt and trousers. You loved wearing pants, it made fighting much easier than a dress or a skirt.
Actually, from a distance you could pass for a boy or a young man. If you had worn one of those peaked cups, you could infiltrate among the Peaky Blinders and they wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. Up close you couldn’t fool anybody. Tommy was delighted in the way the pants hugged your waist as well as the dark runes spread throughout your body, barely visible through the thin fabric of your shirt.
"Do you like horses?" he asked suddenly.
You watched him with a raised eyebrow and nodded slowly, finding the question quite odd. "When I was little and lived in Idris, we had a horse. I used to ride all the time, it made me feel like Boudica. Why do you ask?"
Tommy shrugged. "Have you ever been to the races?"
After seeing you shake your head, he slapped the table cheerfully. He seemed to be in a good mood. "Tomorrow I'll take you to the races. Wear something nice."
“Alright,” you agreed, laughing softly at his enthusiasm.
He sat closer to you, throwing an arm over the back of your seat. You suppressed a smile, men were so easy to read sometimes.
"So, you don’t ride anymore?" he asked after a while. The tips of his fingers began to brush against the side of your neck, sending shivers down your spine.
You heaved a long sigh. "No. Unfortunately, I had to move to London a few years ago and it's not the same. In Idris I used to live in the countryside, where I could ride freely, here I feel like I'm in a cage. Everything is grey, smokey and smells bad."
Tommy laughed. "I don't really understand what you mean about Idris but it sounds like a good place. What made you come to London?"
You looked into his eyes, he seemed genuinely interested. Still, you looked away, focusing your attention on your hands.
"I'm a Nephilim, remember? A Shadowhunter," you saw Tommy nod out of the corner of your eye, "although we're all over the world, because there are demons everywhere, our home country is called Idris."
“I’ve never heard of it,” he commented, sitting a little closer to you.
"Of course, because it is non-existent for mundanes. It is located between Germany, France and Switzerland. Mundanes cannot access it, it is our sanctuary," you explained. "Years ago my parents were sent on a mission, it seemed like something routine and simple but they were ambushed and it didn't end well. They..."
Finishing the sentence wasn’t necessary because Tommy had understood. He squeezed your shoulder gently. "I'm sorry," he whispered.
You looked at him with a frown. "Don't be sorry, that’s how life works. We are warriors, we must fulfil what has been entrusted to us since our creation, keep the Earth free of demons. Most Shadowhunters die young, that's how it is. We have been trained for it since we were children."
Tommy seemed surprised at the sudden vehemence of your words. Out of the blue, your face had become a hard facade, lacking the typical sparkle of amusement in your eyes. Instead, it seemed to have been replaced by a layer of grief and resignation.
"They sent me to the London Institute to finish my training there and I stayed. I had nothing to return to in Idris," you said with a sad smile on your lips.
He closed the little space that separated him from you and pressed his lips against yours. You closed your eyes, tasting tobacco and whiskey. Then, you reached up and placed your hand on the back of his neck, where his hair was so short that it was barely there. Tommy grabbed your waist, pushing his tongue deeper in your mouth.
As you began to feel your crotch getting wet, you pulled away from him with a soft whimper and held his sharp jaw in your hand. “At what time will we meet tomorrow?" you asked in a whisper.
“Meet you here at five,” he muttered, staring at your lips hungrily. You released him, connecting your mouths again.
An overwhelming feeling started to grow inside of your chest, so you got rid of his hands on your waist and stood up with fluid movements. You grabbed your coat and leaned to give him one last kiss. “See you tomorrow, Tommy.”
"Stay a little longer," he pleaded softly, trying to catch his breath.
You shook your head. A small smile threatened to peek at the corner of your mouth. It didn’t reach your eyes though. “I better get going, my night is not over yet,” you said, walking out of the room into the crowded pub.
Tommy remained there as he watched you disappear without looking back.

boxes of clementines | w. herondale
will herondale x fem reader, no mention of shadowhunter stuff, established relationship, husband!will, fluff!!!! so much fluff!!!!, cross posted on ao3 under @/kvohru
‘There are boxes of clementines in the kitchen and the thing is that I love you again.’ — Alessia Di Cesare, The Side Effects of Eating Too Many Clementines
Despite it being a December morning, it was surprisingly warm in your home— for a wintry London day's standards, that is. The sun was up, for one thing, its delicate rays filtering through the clouds and into your kitchen.
Perhaps it's the fact that you live in the countryside? you thought idly as you put away your groceries. Maybe that's why it was sunnier today? Well, regardless, your warm friend was still a welcome guest any day.
Seeing as how it was the weekend today, neither you nor Will had work, so you took it as a chance to get caught up on some housekeeping chores like groceries and such. Well, you had been out getting groceries while Will—who was set to return by the afternoon—was out doing… other things. (He was out replacing something or the other, you weren't quite focusing when he had told you about it the other day.)
And so you went on, adopting a tranquil rhythm, sorting boxes into cupboards and washing all the fresh produce you'd bought. Apples, strawberries and cucumbers were left to soak in the sink while the boxes of clementines were left on the kitchen counters.
You let out a contented sigh. It was a good morning.
˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚
It was well past the afternoon when Will was walking up the stone walkway to the quaint countryside home. In fact, the sun was already starting to set by then, the pale blue sky quickly turning a warm orange instead.
He trudged up the steps to the front porch, adjusting the large bouquet in his hands; a brilliant arrangement of flowers that he didn't think twice about buying when he passed by that florist he often frequented for you.
He shifted the bags he was carrying along with said bouquet to his other arm, freeing up his right to dig into his coat pocket for the keys. “Cariad?” he called as he walked in, toeing his shoes off and placing them neatly beside the door.
It was a few seconds before your reply, which came in form of a Hm?, could be heard. He set all the bags down. A few more seconds where he could hear your feet padding across the wooden floors before you finally, finally, came into view.
“Will!” After all these years, you still had a way of seeming utterly excited when seeing him. I mean, he could practically see the almost cartoonish glimmer in your eyes from across the room.
“Hey, darling,” he greeted gently, his whole body instantly relaxing at the sight of you. It was as if simply being around you worked all the knots from his shoulders and eased all his muscles.
The smile wholly transformed your face at the sound of the term of endearment, the corners of your eyes crinkling adorably and your lips splitting instantly into a wide smile.
The setting sun cast long shadows on the ground, the slanting rays giving a warm orange tinge to the earth, the sky and everything in between.
Your eyes finally left his face and travelled down to his body, where you finally spotted the bouquet balanced on his elbow. He had thought it'd be the first thing you'd notice when he walked in, seeing as how it was almost as big as his torso, but you hadn't.
You'd been too transfixed on his face, on him, to notice anything else.
Your face instantly softened, an almost infinitesimal shift in your expression that would've been impossible to notice if it were anyone else looking at you. But Will noticed. He always did.
It was like it was happening in slow motion, that change in your expression. From the previous childlike joy at seeing your husband to the look of pure, unadulterated love in your eyes.
“Oh, darling,” you breathed, almost to yourself, as you walked closer. You gingerly plucked the bouquet out of his arm, instantly pulling it up to your face to smell it. It really was a gorgeous arrangement; from the roses to the carnations to the peonies, and the tiny pieces of baby's breath sprinkled throughout.
And the part that made it all the more precious to you was that you knew Will had taken time out of his day to put it together. You knew it wasn't prearranged, and the image of your husband standing at the florist and meticulously putting together an assortment of flowers for you warmed your heart to an immeasurable degree.
“Will,” you breathed again, and… were you getting teary-eyed? You looked up at him, and yep, those were definitely tears lining your waterline. He couldn't help the corner of his mouth lifting at the sight. “They're so beautiful. You're so beautiful. Thank you so much. I love you.”
You were gushing your praises and gratitude now, and it wouldn't be long before—
“Wait,” you mumbled, a look of realisation (which looked more like horror than anything) falling over your face. You whipped your head around, your ponytail smacking him in the chest from the force of the motion.
He barely contained his amused scoff. You were and would always be incredibly and adorably predictable. Not to mention incredibly easy to read, too.
“No occasion,” he said, interrupting your Oh No Did I Miss An Important Date?™ scanning-over-the-calendar routine. You let out an audible sigh of relief, your whole body slumping forward with the motion, and this time Will couldn't hold back the smug grin.
You set the bouquet down and looked at him, suspicious despite your relief. He could practically hear the question in your gaze (refer back to what I said about you being incredibly easy to read), and he was sure it went something like this: A bouquet this big for no reason?
He sighed dramatically and leaned closer, his voice taking on that classic teasing lilt of his, “What? Can't a man surprise his wife with flowers in peace?”
“But why?” you insisted quietly. Clearly, you were incredibly worried you'd somehow forgotten about an important date. Because what if you had and Will, being the ever so gracious (debatable) man that he was, didn't want to embarrass you by reminding you?
“Just because.”
“But it's so big.” Your worried gaze met his, and his grin split even wider.
“Not the only big thing I can—”
You smacked him lightly on the arm to shut him up. “Come on!” he complained, forever the melodramatic man that he was, “You practically walked into that one!”
You rolled your eyes, but the gesture held absolutely no heat, especially not when you were smiling despite yourself. “Thank you,” you said sincerely, rising up on your tiptoes to press your lips to his, and hoping he could sense the extent of your gratitude in that kiss.
“Of course, my love,” he murmured softly between kisses, the teasing leaving his voice entirely and being replaced by an insurmountable amount of love.
˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚
A while later, after he had changed and joined you back in the kitchen, the two of you could be found sitting at the kitchen island, sharing a clementine.

Having faith - Matthew Fairchild x reader
Request: Ok, so I binged Chain of Thorns in a day and I need more Matthew content!! Literally anything Matthew Fairchild would be great! // Maybe hurt!comfort or angst with comfort. I need that reassurance and comfort after the entirety of what my baby went through in CoT.
Thank you so much for your request! I hope I did it and Matthew justice.
As always, kudos, comments and reblogs are appreciated!
Matthew is sure he’s never run faster in his life.
One moment, he's relaxing in his flat in Whitby Mansions with Oscar, getting ready to go to bed and the next, he's rushing across London to get to the Institute as quickly as his legs can carry him.
Times seems to run slower than it should, making the trek feel never ending. His heart is beating so hard it feels ready to burst out of his chest. He can make out people shouting at him to be careful as he darts in front of hansom cabs, on and off the sidewalks. He's not even sure he's wearing shoes or a coat. The only thing that Matthew can really concentrate on, other than moving forwards, are those five words in the fire-message from Thomas.
"Matthew, Y/N's hurt. It's bad."
Thomas has never lied to him. He has sometimes sugarcoated or ignored things, but he's extremely truthful and if he's being that short, saying it's bad.. Matthew can't stop to think about that too deeply or he will never make it to the Institute. And he needs to make it there. Y/N needs him. Matthew doesn't remember how exactly he made it to the infirmary. He knows that James was there, keeping him from tripping over his own feet, while Lucy is trying to reassure him that she'll be fine after some rest. Thomas keeps apologizing as they wait outside the doors for Brother Zachariah to let them through.
"What happened?" He needs to swallow a few times and yet, his voice sounds as if he hasn't used it in days.
Thomas sighs, looking away for a moment. "It was sudden. It was supposed to be a boring patrol, like all the other ones have been since Belial died. There was nothing out of the ordinary."
Matthew closes his eyes for a moment, anger coursing through his veins, "Clearly there was or Y/N wouldn't have been hurt!"
"We were heading back to the Institute when a ourobas demon sprang from seemingly nowhere. It slashed Y/N's back and bit her shoulder. She hit her head on the way down while she was trying to get it off her. I got her back as quickly as I could but she'd lost a lot of blood and was struggling to stay conscious or make any sense. Will insisted she get looked over by Uncle Jem."
James claps his shoulder, squeezing it and letting his hand rest there, "She'll be fine, Math. Uncle Jem is with her, he'll make sure she's right as rain in no time."
Matthew can see that Thomas is blaming himself, knows that he should be consoling him and making sure he knows it's not his fault but he can't. Because what if Y/N lost too much blood? What if her head injury leaves her a shell of herself? There are so many horrible possibilities running through Matthew's mind.
He wants a drink. Desperately.
Y/N's disappointment is the only thing that stops him from running to the kitchens in search of alcohol. Not that she would ever outwardly chastise him. She would simply smile sadly at him and help start his journey over again. He won't put her through that again, not when he's not sure what her condition actually is. He doesn't even realize that he's shaking until James shrugs his jacket off to put it around his shoulders.
"Are you okay, Tom?" Lucy's voice breaks through Matthew's mind fog and for the first time since arriving, he notices how tired and strung out Thomas looks. "I'm fine," the boy replies, "I just can't stop thinking about it. It's all my fault that Y/N's hurt. I should have been more careful."
James shakes his head, "No, it's no one's fault but that demon's."
Thomas just gives them a tight smile and Matthew lets himself slide to the floor, his head dropping to his hands. He can feel James' eyes on him but he ignores it. He leans against the wall, fidgeting with the ring James gifted him after their parabatai ceremony.
Time passes slowly, the sun peaking over the horizon and creeping under the infirmary doors, illuminating the hallway with soft orange hues. One by one, his friends fall asleep. Lucy is leaning against James' shoulder, Thomas has his neck bent at a weird angle where his heads rests against the wall and James has his head nestled in the crook of Matthew's neck. But Matthew doesn't want to sleep till he sees Y/N.
Bridget brings by a tray of tea and biscuits but leaves them for when the others wake up. The only thing Matthew wants, he can't have so he just sits impatiently.
Finally, the doors open and Uncle Jem walks out. Matthew jumps up, nearly sending James flying to the ground but he doesn't care. "How is she?!"
She'll be fine. Brother Zachariah's soothing voice reassures him. She lost a lot of blood and it took me some time to get the demon poison out of her system but she will make a full recovery. "You're sure?" Matthew's eyes fill with tears and he feels like he can breathe again.
I am certain, Matthew. She will need lots of rest and a few more iratzes but she will be fine.
"Can I see her?"
The Silent Brother nods, Do try not to wake her. She needs as much rest as she can get.
Matthew doesn't bother with a reply or a thank you, he rushes into the room to be with Y/N. Seeing her there, laying in a bed, pale and motionless finally makes the tears fall. He's seen her sleep in the institute library's chairs, on the couch in their hideout at the Devil's Tavern and this is a far scream from those moments. Her face is usually relaxed in sleep, with her mouth hanging slightly open and her eyes moving behind her eyelids as she dreams. Now, she's utterly still, her face contorted in a grimace as if even while unconscious, the pain lingers and keeps her from resting.
He takes a seat next to her bed, gingerly takes her hand in his his. He knows he should be keeping contact to the minimum, as it isn't proper for a gentleman such as himself but he needs this to keep what sanity he has left intact. At least she's warm to the touch and he can watch her chest rise and fall with each breath. Leaving a sweet, lingering kiss to her knuckles, he tucks their conjoined hands under his chin and finally lets sleep catch up with him.
-----
Y/N blinks her eyes open, slightly disoriented and with a pounding headache. She looks around the room and it takes it longer than it normally would to recognize the Institute's infirmary.
The sun is high in the sky, meaning that she's probably been here for hours. Her last memory is being with Thomas, making their way back to the Institute for their nightly debrief. They were laughing about something Alastair did and Thomas was taking great joy in recounting the fact. Her back itches and when she moves her head, a momentary blinding pain radiates from her left temple to the base of her neck.
Y/N groans, trying to bring up a hand to rub at her temple but can't because something is holding it in place. She looks down and sees Matthew fast asleep, his hand clutching hers under his head that rests on the bed. Her heart swells at the sight, feeling loved and cared for. It's almost enough to ignore the pain and stiffness of her body. Reaching out with her free hand, Y/N runs it delicately through Matthew's blond curls as she gently whispers his name. Matthew wakes with a start, eyes immediately darting to Y/N and when he sees that she's awake, smiling that blinding smile, he grins as his eyes start watering again. "You're awake."
Y/N nods, but the pain the movement causes makes her groan again. Matthew is quick to react, drawing his stele out of his pocket and gently placing the tip to Y/N's skin to draw a healing rune. Y/N feels the pain melt away as he finishes the design and watches as he kisses the fresh rune.
"Better?"
"Much," she replies with a smile, squeezing his fingers that have once again interlocked with her own. Her vocie is scratchy and her throat is dry but she doesn't want Matthew to move away from her. "What happened?"
Matthew sighs, leaning forward in his seat as his green eyes dart across her body, as if he's making sure she's fully healed. "I'm not sure. I know Tom has explained it to me but I was a bit too preoccupied to really take any of what he was saying in."
"You were worried about little ol' me?" she grins, trying to get him to relax.
Matthew's eyes blaze with anger at her brazen attitude. "Of course I was!" he doesn't scream, which is somehow worse. "Thomas sent a fire-message, saying that you were hurt badly and I had to sit outside the infirmary for hours before Jem came out to give us any news. You could have died, Y/N!"
Y/N struggles as she sits up, freeing her hand from Matthew so she can cup his face. "But I didn't. The job we do is dangerous, you know that. I always worry when you're out patrolling but I know you will come back in one piece. I have faith in your ability, Math."
Tears stream down his face, wetting her hands as he leans into her gentle touch. "And I have faith in yours. I just can't live with the idea of losing you."
Y/N brushes her lips against his, enjoying the hitch in his breathing. "I love you, Math. I will always do whatever I can to come back to you in one piece."
"I love you too."
The two lovers stay in the infirmary for the rest of the day, resting and finally loosening up enough to laugh about the whole situation.
And if Matthew leaves the room when it's time for sleep with the intention of getting a ring to propose with, that's only for him to know until he drops down to one knee when Y/N has made a full recovery.

Watch
Summary: Shadowhunters; Clary Fray/Angel!Male Reader; Reader’s been told to watch over Clary, until he can’t help himself and saves her life.
Clary Fray is only a few hours old when your father assigns you to keep an eye on her. You’re not sure why, she looks like any other human child, but your father mumbles shadowhunter, under his breathe in the way you know he meant for you to hear as he’s not allowed to tell you those you watch over’s pathways. You understand what this means; Clary Fray will suffer more than most, and you will have to watch, only watch, never more than that.
Clary Fray is beautiful, and you know you can never have her. You watched as she grew up; when she was a child, unsure of what happened, of the danger her mother had placed her in by existence. Your father had given you the task, no, the privilege of watching over her. He always reminds you that you must only watch, that you cannot interfere with her life, not matter what happens.
You hate lying to him, but she is a clumsy child, and there are monsters after her. Helping her cannot be a sin the way your father says, not when she can’t remember who you are, your presence tied to the runes she draws as far as she’s concerned, with how she forgets you until you reappear.
He doesn’t catch on, you’re surprised, maybe he’s choosing to overlook it as he knows Clary is destined for something more; it’s what you like to think, despite her parentage, despite the terror that she could turn and fall at any moment, that she could be killed and taken; you know she’s not without sin, no human is. So you become comfortable, you relax about not being seen, about not interfering in her life; you forget you’re taking risks, so when your father stops you from leaving on your usual trip to watch over her you realize you’ve gotten caught.
"I give you one task and you ruin it. How simple it is to watch one soul throughout its journey and look what you've done. Stay quiet." Your father snarls as you attempt to speak. You make a strangled yelp as he plucks a single feather from your wings before you can say anything.
"I said stay quiet. If you make that much noise from a feather i regret to inform you about the remaining time you have with your wings." You swear you can see him smile as he reaches a hand toward you and tugs, fistfulls of your feathers bloodying his hands.
”Simon wait up!” You grimace as she runs towards him, you know he has the same unrequited feelings for her as you do, there’s just one key difference than screams in your mind every time, and every time they meet up you can’t help but stare. Simon grins as she hugs him and you wonder what it feels like to wrap your arms around Clary. You’ll never find out, because just like every time they go to get coffee and listen to poetry she walks right through you.
You swallow, your resolve only strengthening like it always does when she steps through you; that you’ll protect her no matter what and defy your father who thought to punish you by condemning you to be trapped on the earth with her, never to touch her and now no longer able to protect her how you once did.

The Accords (Reader Insert Version)
Chapter Four
“(Y/N)!”
Fuck you had to get up.
Nine-year-old you pressed your hand on the floor and tried to push yourself up, but the bloody slash on your stomach caused you to feel weak against your captor. “Watch your friend die and we'll make everything less painful, okay little one?” The man over you crooned.
You foolishly turned your head, capturing the eyes of the girl you had known since you were five, your oldest friend. Victoria was tied down to a hospital bed in the laboratory they had been stuck in, a machine attached to her, sucking out her blood. Her eyes cried out in pain and tears to her as she bled out, her life slowly being pulled out of her while she was still breathing. “(Y/N), please…” She wept, her normally cocky personality gone with the wind.
You looked up at the man keeping you pinned to the ground with pleading eyes. “She doesn't deserve this! Please! Take me instead!” You tasted your own blood in your mouth, a metal-like taste. The tears threatened to spill from your eyes.
The men in the room laughed, a horrible sound to your ears. “Oh, but we are taking the both of you. Your blood sells, Morganstern.”
“Don't call me Morganstern. My name is Wayland.” You grit your teeth, whimpering when you heard Victoria scream out in pain.
He leaned down and told you in a hushed voice. “Keep telling yourself that, Morganstern, you’ll always be related to him..”
Your gaze snapped to Victoria as she wailed out in pain once more before going limp on the bed, her blue eyes wide open and vacant. “Vic!” You screamed, in disbelief she was gone. Victoria didn't move, didn't spit out a witty remark, didn't blink.
It was all your fault.
The man pulled you up by her hair, and you obeyed, knowing the consequences if you didn't. “Now, ready for your treatment, Morganstern?”
The vampires around the room all smirked at you, baring their teeth.
☉
You awoke from your dream of your past in a gorgeous parlor room, you were laid down on the velvet blue couch, and a fire was roaring from the fireplace, warming the colder room. You whimpered, believing you were alone so you could show pain or discomfort, and slowly sat up straight.
“Nfu~ Bitch-chan number two is finally awake.” You softly gasped in surprise and turned your head toward the source of the voice. He was, of course, gorgeous, but now that you knew everyone here was probably a vampire, you knew why. Vampires had to be attractive to get their prey.
He looked a lot like the man at the gas station, same emerald green eyes with only slightly lighter red hair. The eyes he had seemed more playful, however, while the others had seemed more demanding and bossy. You couldn't help but wonder if they were closely related. He was wearing a fedora with a red ribbon tied around it, and he had a small mole on the right side of his mouth that seemed to enhance his natural beauty. His school uniform had two buttons at the top undone, probably to show off his chest a bit, and his tie was loosely knotted. God, you couldn't help but think it sucked that Nephilim were unable to date vampires and other Downworlders. All of them were so attractive, especially these men, but The Accords outlawed it because The Clave wants Shadowhunter babies, not any other race. It was understandable since Shadowhunter's population was low, but it was horrible how you couldn't marry or date who you fell in love with.
This vampire man inched closer to you, a suggestive smirk on his face. “Does the new Bitch-Chan speak? Kanato told me you only understood English.” He had a very cruel tone when taunting that some might have mistaken for flirting.
You scooted back a bit, uncomfortable under his stare. You have always been attracted to eyes, it's one of the first features you noticed, but you felt oddly uncomfortable under the eyes of anyone but Nephilim and loved ones. “I don't only understand English, I speak some other languages, but I have a name, you know.”
The unnamed man chuckled, grinning widely and showing off his fangs. He had cute little dimples on either side of his mouth. “What is it, Bitch-Chan? Whatever it is, I'll keep calling you Bitch-Chan too.” He winked at you teasingly.
You scowled, staring into his eyes with your (E/C) ones. “It's (Y/N), and you'll use my name, bloodsucker.” You attempted to stand, straightening Yourself up before your legs collapsed underneath you. You started to fall to the carpeted floor with a yelp, but this man caught you in his arms.
His grip felt very secure and safe, his arms wrapped around your waistline. You weren't used to being touched much, but you absolutely loved it when you had skin-to-skin contact. “I'm Laito, Bitch-Chan. The most attractive man here.” He smirked, which made you want to fawn over him for a second, but you knew better. No good came from Downworlders, you learned that at an early age.
“Such a liar, it's obvious it's Ore-sama.” You looked up at the owner of the voice, recognizing it.
“I should have guessed you were related.” You spat, pulling yourself out of Laito’s arms and onto the couch. “You both have that ‘egotistic’ quality.”
The man glared at her, his green eyes annoyed. “Oi! Shut up, Melons!”
You glared. "Don't call me melons, Christmas!"
“Be quiet… You're ruining my music…” You glanced at the blonde who was lying down on the other couch, his eyes were closed, probably sleeping. He, of course, was also good-looking, you just wished you could see what his eyes were like.
Kanato teleported into the room using his vampire powers, he was pretty beat up, but he would heal quickly. You had definitely done a number on him. You wondered if he was still pissed. “Look Teddy, the new doll is finally awake.”
You sighed, instinctively feeling your sheath for your Angel Blade while your eyes darted around the room, searching for exits. The white-haired and red-eyed man, who was leaning against a blank wall, scoffed. “ Tch, we aren't dumb, Nephilim. You don't have any more weapons on you. We confiscated them.”
You glared, putting the fury into your stare. “You aren't allowed to keep me here, it's against the Law.” You said, tapping your boot against the marble floor.
Laito smirked, sitting down next to you, although a little too close. “I'm sure The Clave will make an exception for us. Especially since it's illegal for you to be trespassing on Vampire's property in the first place.”
“You're fair game, Melons. Should have looked before you came to us.”
“I was hunting!” You retorted angrily. “I had direct orders from The Clave and there were no restricted places on my mission information, I wasn't informed there were vampires!”
The blonde groaned and pulled out an earphone and opened his eyes, giving you a death stare. Now that you had a better look at him, you saw just how gorgeous his eyes were, a beautiful ocean of calm. As blue as the sky. You were entranced for a moment. “Stop being so noisy. You broke the Law, so these are the consequences.” He closed his eyes again and put the earpods back in.
You felt speechless, like your life was being sold to yet another individual. “The Clave will come after you. I'm a top agent.”
“They have the guts to come after the Sakamaki's?” Ayato teased.
Your jaw went slack, a feeling of dread washed over you, you had known you had recognized their names. Kanato, Ayato, and Laito were the triplets of the Sakamaki family. Which meant the white-haired man and the blonde man were also their brothers. “No, no, no. There's no fucking way…”
Laito smirked, leaning in close to your face. “Surprise, Bitch-Chan.”
You quickly stood up, forcing your legs to be strong enough to hold your weight and backed away. “Holy shit…” You bumped into someone and quickly turned to face him. He was also a vampire, with those looks. Shiny magenta eyes that looked as though they could see through everything and also understand everything. He seemed very knowledgeable. He had such dark hair that you couldn't tell whether it was black or very dark blue.
“How unladylike, don't you know you should be aware of your movements? You aren't a very graceful woman, are you?” He said, there was something about his voice that gave him a commanding demeanor. You could tell he was intelligent and strict, and knowing this you knew you should apologize politely, but all you could do was freeze in terror. You had faced and killed many vampires before, but these were the sons of The Vampire King. Karlheinz was the only leader of Downworlders who had trouble agreeing with The Law, werewolves, faeries, and warlock were easily swayed to The Clave's side. The Clave knows not to piss off Karlheinz. He could, without a doubt, go up against Shadowhunter kind and win within a week. “It's customary to answer when someone talks to you, honestly.”
You broke yourself out of your shocked state, stammering out a response.“Fuck, I'm sor-”
“You curse too? Dear lord, I'm going to have to train so much out of you. The only good quality I see so far is in your bloodline.” The magenta-eyed man spat, disgusted.
Laito chuckled, his fangs peeking through his lips. “Her blood does smell delightful. May I have a bite, Bitch-Chan?” In a flash, the fedora-wearing man’s face was buried in the crook of your neck, you yelped and flinched back, attempting to push away Laito, but someone else did before you could.
“She's my doll! I saw her first, I get the first taste!” Kanato yelled at his younger brother, fury in his eyes. Laito chuckled, amused and not scared by his brother’s outburst. He stayed down where Kanato had pushed him, resting both of his arms under his head. “(Y/N), dolly, stay still,” Kanato spoke softly, it almost calmed you, his voice was just so hypnotizing. However, you knew what would happen if a vampire got a hold of your blood. As he leaned down, his teeth bared, to pierce your collarbone, you did something you would probably regret, you slapped him across the face. The room went completely silent, nobody said a single word, it was so very eerie. You didn't dare move a muscle, frozen from fear. Kanato slowly turned his head toward you again, a scowl on his face. “You really have to be put in your place, doll.” To your horror, Kanato wrapped his hand around your neck, squeezing lightly at first, seeming to test you.
Your hand jumped to his wrist, in an attempt to get him to let go. “Kanato-” The vampire squeezed slightly tighter, probably restraining himself. “P-please…”
He glared down at you. “You have lost the right to beg for my mercy, Shadowhunter. Endure your punishment.” The purple-haired man tightened his grip even more, it took everything for you to not cry out in pain, your training never taught you what to do during a fight with one of the strongest pure-blood vampires to date.
Finally, You blacked out from oxygen deprivation, you did however spare your dignity as you didn't once scream. Kanato let go of your thin figure, blinking. “She's more fiery than the brides,” Ayato grumbled.
“Tch, she won't last a day here.” The white-haired man spoke from the other side of the room, his red eyes gleaming with curiosity and annoyance.
The youngest triplet chuckled. “Fufu~ She might surprise us. You never know.”

Jace Comforting his S/O (HCs)
Pairings: Jace Wayland x G/N!Reader
Warnings: anxiety, fear, fluff
Author's Note: It was asked that I do Jace comforting his S/O either when they're having an anxiety attack or are just scared, and I figured, why not both?
Masterlist | The Mortal Instruments Masterlist
Taglist: @matth1w, @redspaceace-writes, @fandom-puff, @darling-i-read it, @simonsbluee, @thewarriorprincessxo, @sebastianstanslefteyebrow, @livlaughquinn, @bubsonnobx, @bunnyweasley23
ANXIETY
Jace is the kinda guy to do the anxiety / breathing exercises regardless of anyone else in the room or what he's doing.
In that moment, nothing and no one matters except for you.
"Okay love, tell me four things you can see. Now three things you can hear. Two things you can feel? How about one thing you can smell."
Or he'll take your hand and trace his finger up each digit, "Breathe in, at the same speed as m'finger." As he's tracing down, "now breathe out. Remember, same speed."
Once you're a little calm, he'll make sure to do whatever comforts you, be it touch, words of affirmation, or some space.
He refuses to let anyone else be around you in this state, he doesn't want someone to set you off. He doesn't care whether they mean well or not, he values your wellbeing much more.
Def is an emotional support being.
This man will do research just to help.
Separation anxiety - he'll gift you something random.
^ "See, now I have to come back."
Anxiety bc he puts himself in danger - bro will literally be cocky and not even realize he's not helping.
^ "c'mon, no one can get rid of me that easily. I'm a Shadowhunter."
Pure anxiety in general - he turns into a little nerd.
^ You can find him in the library, trying to see if there's anything that can help him learn more about it so he can help.
^^ eventually he realizes that he can just ask you what would be helpful.
All in all, Jace is a loving boyfriend who strives to help in whatever way he can.
FEAR
So when you're afraid, Jace knows. He just knows.
He'll try to find the threat/reason behind it before he talks to you about it, but regardless, he knows he'll have to ask you directly.
Whether he gets it right or not, he asks what the problem is and makes sure to deal with it if possible.
The rest of the day, he makes sure to have you in his arms or within arms reach.
So many fucking cuddles.
He turns even more protective somehow
He definitely tries to tell you funny stories to get your mind off the scary things.
"I'll protect you with my life"
Gifts you a weapon to carry at all times.
He goes out of his way to make sure that you're only with familiar people, never strangers.
If someone makes fun of you for being afraid, Jace gives them the death glare and makes sure they know he has it out for them.
He'll reassure you and tell you that he's there.
I KNOW he 1000% always mentions that he's there to protect you.
"Nothing can get you, I'm here."
He's jus a little guy who wants to be your knight in shining armor.

Sleepless nights - Shadowhunters.
Summary: You always have sleepless nights, when you go to train like usual you find someone else there already.
Warning: training/Sparring, mentions of injury/blood, mentions of nightmares.
Pairing: Alec Lightwood x GN!reader (platonic).
Word count: 1,340.
I tossed and turned with a huff, my eyes fluttering restlessly, kicking the duvet off me. It was a running joke with me and the Lightwood that sleep was for the weak but in reality, it was because I could never sleep a whole night. The nightmares made it impossible and though on the outside it seemed funny, it was draining me rather quickly. Irritated, I swung my legs out of bed and groaned with my head in my hands. Even if I managed to doze off, it was already two-thirty and everyone would start waking up soon enough.
Staying shrouded in the darkness, I managed to drag on clothes. Opening the door which softly creaked in protest. The institute was deadly silent bar the occasional snore from behind doors.
Izzy was a deep sleeper and swore she didn't do anything as ghastly as snore but the obnoxiously loud sound creeping from her bedroom defied her protests. I grinned, shaking my head as I passed her room and padded down the corridor, becoming a little less cautious as screens and monitors came into view. I wandered towards the training suites, slowing once more when I noticed the lights were already on. The echoing of a punching bag made me consider perhaps Jace was already in there like he was when he couldn't sleep too.
I crept in the direction of the noise, peering around one of the pillars, surprised to find Alec rather than the suspected blond. I had never seen him training at this time before. It was no secret that he didn't sleep well either but he tended to stay in his room to occupy himself. His grunts of effort ricocheted through the room as he went to town on the bags. With the way his knuckles were wrapped, I could only imagine the bruising he would have later on.
"Knock Knock," I called softly, tapping the stone pillar with a tired smile. "Didn't think anyone would be in here."
"Y/N, what're you doing up?" His voice was gruff, a tired edge clinging to his words as he panted.
"I could ask you the same thing," I teased, noticing the humour flew over his head. He looked drained and worn down, almost grey under the training room lights. "I just couldn't sleep, I come here to work stuff off when it gets too much is all. What about you?"
"Couldn't sleep either." He landed a few more hits on the leather bag before stilling it with his hands. His hesitance was apparent as he stared at the scuffed floor. "Had a nightmare, needed to do something to work it out." I wandered farther into the room, crossing my arms as I did.
"Hmm, I get it, most nights I'm in here for that reason. By the Angel, our dreams like to keep us on our toes huh?" I smiled grimly, picking up a sparring pole, and holding out a second one for my fellow shadowhunter. "Wanna work off some steam? I could use a partner, the dummies don't tend to fight back. Makes it too easy." He considered for a moment before unwrapping his hands. He usually had a knack for wrapping them properly but I winced at the sight of his bruised and slightly bloody skin. It really was a bad one. I made a mental note to remind him to activate his Iratze later.
"Jace mentioned that you spend a lot of time in here when the institute sleeps." His statement seemed nonchalant like he understood why it wasn't a general topic of conversation. I threw the second pole towards him as he walked down the steps and into the sparring area, grinning as he caught it with an expert spin.
"Yeah, explaining it is a pain and I'm used to it by now, I'm lucky if I get a couple hours a night but my body doesn't complain anymore." I shrugged despite the concern on his face. I knew it wasn't healthy to barely sleep, especially using up energy on training. But, there was no chance my brain was getting with the program of producing enough melatonin and blocking out the nightmares so powering through was the best option. Moving into my beginning stance, I span my own staff in my hands. "Anyway, I still do my job just as well ao its not an issue."
"Have you tried any magic or potions to stop the dreams? I'm sure Magnus could rustle something up for you." I shook my head, blocking his first hit with ease as we started to warm up.
"I wouldn't want to be any trouble, besides, I've taken potions before and they just made me feel like crap. Honestly, I'm used to it." I threw myself towards him with a little more ferocity than he expected, causing him to stumble with widened eyes.
"Magnus is the high warlock of Brooklyn, his wouldn't make you feel awful," he pressed, recovering from his surprise. I nodded slightly but gave him a pointed look to drop it, the room falling into a rhythm of clashing metal, heavy breathing and the occasional grunt from the pair of us. My focus was solely on the fight, my emotions channelling into the fight.
"You should talk to someone about your dreams." I panted, "I know this isn't the first time you've been up." My breath caught in my throat at a particularly rough lunge. "I see your light under the door when I walk past, can hear you shuffling around." I slid to the ground as he got the upper hand on me. I took the opportunity and knocked him down with the pole, the sound echoing through the room.
"It doesn't matter, too much explaining like you said and I do my job too." He ground out, using my own words against me. He hauled himself to his feet, leaving his pole on the floor where it had rolled away. I continued to push against him with my own, swinging and spinning the pole, allowing him to counteract with his hands.
"Look, all I'm saying is it can help. Sometimes Izzy listens to mine but there's only so much she can listen to." I wiped the hair back from my face with a huff.
"I don't want to speak about it, I can handle it." I scoffed at his answer, yelping as he yanked the sparring pole from my hands, sending me flying. The pole twirled in his hand dangerously as he stalked over to my sprawled-out body. I gasped as the air was dragged from my lungs.
"Look," ignoring the way my voice cracked I squinted up at him, gathering myself. "I'm offering you an outlet. If you don't want to talk then you're more than welcome to come here when you have a bad night. I'm here every night anyway so train with me. I won't make you talk, won't pressure you, just fight unless you want to. Talk. You just have to say the words." He gazed down at me, looking confused before offering me a hand up.
"Only training, no questions unless I want to?" Alec's voice was unsure but I nodded in confirmation and encouragement.
"I'm a good listener, I don't mind you talking at me just as much as I don't mind a nighttime training partner." I smiled, placing the poles back on their stand, rolling my shoulders out as I did. "We should go get ready for the day. It's almost five and I need a good scrub before breakfast." I gestured towards his hands before I left. "Don't forget to activate your Iratze, those knuckles look sore."
"Hey Y/N," I paused, swinging back around. "Thank you, and I can listen too if you need it." I smiled widely, nodding in thanks before leaving. That was a huge step for Alec, but to hear him say that made happiness spread through my chest as I walked through the rousing institute.
Perhaps I'd take him up on the offer sometime.

When the darkness comes | Tommy Shelby x shadowhunter!Reader - Part 3
Summary: you are a shadowhunter investigating the sudden rise of yin fen in the Downworld, the trail leads you to Small Heath and a blue eyed gangster. A/N: English isn't my first language, sorry if there are mistakes! Warning: nothing. Part 2
Peaky Blinders Masterlist
Following Thomas around wasn’t giving you any extra information, he seemed to be nothing more than a mundane man. Given that your encounter in the alley had been a bit awkward, to call it something, it was time to take action and step into his life.
You got up and dressed nicely in your regular clothes, no shadowhunter gear this time. It was important to appear normal, you thought, as you grabbed your coat and stepped into the foggy street.
The Shelby Company Limited building raised in front of you, the view wasn’t any special. You took the opportunity to straighten a lock of hair and make sure that your weapons were well hidden under your dress. With your best smile, you entered the building, heading to Thomas’s office. It wasn’t difficult to find, he was the owner after all.
A dark haired woman who might be his secretary looked up at you as you stood in front of her desk.
“I want to see Mr. Shelby,” you said, smiling politely.
She looked you over from head to toe and rolled her eyes. It made you feel a bit insulted but you tried to ignore it.
“Do you have an appointment?” she asked reluctantly, perhaps a bit annoyed, as if she already knew the answer. Or as if this weren’t the first time that an unknown woman came to see her boss unannounced.
You ran a finger across the wooden surface of the desk. “No,” you admitted, looking down. "But I'm sure Mr. Shelby will make an exception for me.”
“Sorry but I can't let you see him without an appointment. Mr. Shelby is busy, he probably won't be back for several hours. I can see if he has any free appointments next week…”
“No, thank you”, you cut her mid sentence and turned around to leave. The skirt of your dress fluttered gracefully as you left under her narrow eyed stare.
Of course it couldn’t be that easy.
Once outside in the street, you looked for a quiet and hidden place. The first empty alley would work perfectly. You searched in your purse until you found your stele and rolled up the sleeve of your coat. After making sure that no one was watching, you drew a glamour on your forearm. The burning sensation was quite comforting.
Without hesitation, you resumed your way to the building with the difference that this time no one turned their heads to stare at you.
You walked past the secretary's desk without her noticing your presence, as expected, and carefully turned the doorknob to Thomas's office. It was closed. With a sigh, you took out the stele again and drew a mark on the door surface. Immediately, the lock gave way under your hand. Carefully, you opened it enough to get in without drawing the secretary's attention.
Then, you drew a mark on the door again, closing it, as if nothing had happened.
The office was empty.
You inspected every surface, the room was richly decorated. Since you had no idea of how long it would take Thomas to come, you took your time exploring every corner until you finally took a seat in the chair behind the dark wooden desk, placing your coat on the side. You took off your glamour and looked through the mess of papers scattered in front of you, business, business, nothing incriminatory.
But it made you smile, the chaos on the desk reminded you of your own mess in your small apartment. At least you had something in common with that man. Given that you didn’t find anything interesting that could help to clarify any of your research, you leaned back, making yourself comfortable, prepared to wait.
After a while, you heard the secretary's voice greeting Thomas, as well as his deeper voice. You bit your lip expectantly as he inserted the key into the lock and entered the office, without noticing your presence at first. You watched him hang his dark wool coat on the rack, completely unaware.
“Good morning, Mr. Shelby,” you greeted cheerfully.
He jumped and turned to look at you with his blue eyes wide open. Within seconds, his gun was pointed at you.
It made you frown.
"Really?" you complained, clicking your tongue. "Why do you have to point that thing at me every time we see each other? I already told you it's not polite, Mr. Shelby. I don't like it at all.”
Thomas stared at you in disbelief. He lowered the gun and ran a hand over his face, looking exhausted. “What are you doing here?” he asked quietly.
You shrugged. “I just want to talk with you and make something clear.”
He stood by the bottles and poured himself a glass of what seemed to be whiskey. Slowly, you got up, making sure that he was watching every move of your body. In fact, his blue eyes wandered over your figure shamelessly.
Thomas got closer to the desk, walking around it until he sat behind, feeling the warmth you had left on the chair. So you must be real after all, he thought, still watching you.
On your behalf, you hadn’t moved. You sat on his desk crossing one leg over the other, letting the hem of your dress rise up a little more than what would be decorous for a lady. But you were no regular lady.
You stretched your arm, showing him your dominant hand, more specifically, the back of it. Thomas grabbed it as if by instinct, it seemed that he was going to kiss it but he just held your hand in his, still frowning as he scrutinised your face. His hand was warm and wide, calloused too, and his grasp was firm. Almost as if he were trying to make sure that you were made out of flesh and bone, not some sort of illusion created by his mind.
“I’d like to try something. What do you see, Mr. Shelby?” you asked, pointing to your hand with your eyes. He followed your gaze as he caressed your fingers absentmindedly. There was your first mark, as well as every other Shadowhunter’s first rune, like black ink in the shape of an eye. The Voyance rune. It helped seeing the Downworld.
After a few seconds in silence, his eyes grew wider and he cleared his throat. “It’s the tattoo of an eye”, he muttered, stroking the black rune with his thumb. You stared at his face in order to find any sort of recognition but there was none.
You caressed the pale skin of his wrist with your fingertips. “Don’t you know what it means?”
Thomas shook his head, not letting your hand go. Again, it was as if just by holding it in his bigger one, it could make him believe that you were real.
“I don’t even know what all this means” he said, gesturing at you with his free hand. “Am I losing my mind?”
His words made you sigh sympathetically. “No, you’re not.”
You leaned forward, stopping a few centimetres away from his face. Being so close, you could smell the whiskey he was drinking and the faint scent of cigarettes. His blue eyes fell on your lips for a second before jumping away.
“Are you even real or just a demon on a mission to torture me?” he asked, barely audibly. You smiled and caressed his lips with yours before leaning back, resting a hand on the desk behind you.
“I’m no demon Mr. Shelby. Quite the opposite, the blood of the angel Raziel runs through my veins” you confessed. He seemed puzzled, like someone who is not understanding a single word. “A Nephilim, a demon hunter. And this is not a tattoo, it is a mark which helps me fight. Well, it’s more complex than that but for now I think that’s enough for you Mr. Shelby. I have more though” you said, pulling the hem of your dress up.
You placed your stretched leg on his lap and immediately he traced the intricate shapes intertwined all over your skin, some were as black as the night, those were the most recent ones, while others were starting to fade away and some remained like old scars, almost invisible on your skin.
As his hand wandered over your leg, he noticed the muscles under the fascinating shapes of the runes, the same way that he had noticed your scarred knuckles and your callous hands. Definitely, you were no ordinary person, at least not like anyone else he had met before.
His hand started moving up your thigh but you grabbed his wrist with a strength that surprised him, stopping him from reaching up any further. A couple of centimetres more and he’ll touch the dagger that you kept attached to your leg just in case. You didn’t want him finding it out and thinking that you were planning to kill him or something, which would probably lead to him pointing that stupid gun at your face once again.
“So you are an angel then” he questioned, raising an eyebrow. He was now touching your calf, it felt good to have someone, even a stranger like him, touching you like that.
You shook your head. “Not exactly, a Nephilim. That’s what I am” you repeated, tilting your head to the side. “What about you?”
Thomas gave you a questioning look and lit a cigarette. He smoked in silence and you observed him. He was something to see, this close. It made you feel something funny in your belly. Focus, you reminded yourself. A dear friend of yours, a warlock named Magnus Bane, had told you once that blue eyes and dark hair were the most perfect combination, or something like that. You couldn’t remember his exact words but right now, you couldn’t agree more.
“What do you mean?” he finally said.
“Are you a mundane? What can you tell me about your parents, Mr. Shelby? Did you meet them?”
He let out a cloud of smoke and shrugged, looking down. “I met them, yeah. There’s nothing to tell, they’re dead.”
“I’m sorry to hear that” you whispered softly. He nodded without looking at you and squeezed his eyes with his hand.
“It’s alright,” he said.
What he didn’t tell you was that his mother used to see things, and that she ended up drowning herself. Now he was seeing things too and the idea of losing his mind was frightening him. He needed to stay clear, for the family, for the business. He shook his head and sighed.
The door opened abruptly, hitting the wall. All the sudden noise was accompanied by strong footsteps.
“Tommy! We have a problem with the ships, we need you down there… Oh, sorry. I didn’t know you were busy”
You recognised that voice. It was Thomas’s brother, Arthur. You turned your head to look at him over your shoulder while taking your leg out of Thomas's hands, pulling your dress down and pretending to be ashamed by the interruption. Arthur had a big smile on his face, he reminded you of a kid who knows that he shouldn’t be laughing but still finds the situation amusing.
“I’m not busy, Arthur. Tell me, what is it?” Thomas changed his position in the chair, completely ignoring your presence. As if you weren’t there at all. As if he couldn’t feel the warmth irradiating from your body or smell your sweet scent.
Arthur made a dismissive gesture with his hand, still smiling. “Don’t worry Tommy. We’ll take care of it later, it wasn’t that important.”
Thomas noticed Arthur’s eyes on you and frowned. You bit your lip, trying to hide your amusement.
“Something else, Arthur?”
He seemed to doubt. “Uh, no, I’ll let you two alone.” Arthur turned around and left the office, closing the door behind him.
Slowly, Thomas turned to you. “Did he see you?”
You nodded patiently. He frowned even harder than before, grabbing his head with both hands. “I don’t understand it. How? I thought I was the only one, that they couldn’t see you.”
You placed a hand on his shoulder. The poor man was almost having a meltdown. “Because I am a Nephilim and I can use marks to make myself invisible. Regular mundanes can’t see me but some have the Sight, they can see the Downworld” you explained quietly, moving your hand up his neck. “I’m not wearing a glamour right now, that’s the name of the mark that makes us invisible, that’s why he saw me.”
He remained in silence, with his face buried in his hands.
“You said that your aunt could see spirits,” you recalled and he nodded. “Do you know if she can see something else? Has she ever told you stories…?”
Thomas let out a bitter laugh. “Those are just superstitions, gypsy stories.”
You got up from the desk and grabbed your coat, taking a few steps away. “But Mr. Shelby… Don’t you know that all stories are true?”
He stared at you with a softer expression. “Tommy,” he said. It took you a second to realise that he was telling you his name.
“Y/N,” you said, smiling widely. “I’ll see you around, Tommy.”
Turning around, you headed out of his office. When his secretary saw you she seemed taken aback, a puzzle expression replacing her previous annoyed one, clearly not understanding when or how you got into Thomas’s office.
“Have a nice day” you told her as you passed by her desk.

New Member Spotlight - May 2024
The Pond is always growing and we want to make our new members feel welcome! Here’s a list of recent additions to our fishy family, along with a little info about them!
Guppies, Jellies, and Mutuals, oh, my!
Tumblr name:
@masoena
Other handles:
AO3: Masoena, Discord: masoena5
Do you have an SPN OTP?
Wincest but I ship just about anything that is SPN I would say I'm a multishipper overall.
Are you in any other fandoms?
Shadowhunters
What are you looking for in the Pond? What can we do for you?
I'm looking to connect with other writers and artists and create amazing things together, lift each other up be that through brainstorming, feedback, advice or collaboration.
What pairings do you like to read? Reader inserts? Ships? Poly fics
Wincest, Sabriel, Arthur/Dean, Samwena, Destiel are my favourites and I do love triple ships to e.g. Dean/Sam/Donna or Wincestiel or pretty much anything in SPN
What genres do you like to read? Angst? Fluff? Smut? Crack? What are your favorite tropes?
Hurt/comfort, angst, A/B/O, smut, dom/sub, bdsm, angel kink or grooming, protective character saving other character(s) in peril, BAMF characters, meet-cute, animalmorph characters (not bestiality just humans with some physical animal traits e.g. Sam with cat ears), case-Fics, alternate Universes, creature fics (vampires, weres, etc.), crossover fics, enemies to lovers (sometimes) and anything from short one-shots to super long fics found its way into my bookmarks.
Do you have a favorite Fanfic writer? If yes, tell us who! (Please let us know if they are on Tumblr or AO3.)
There are a few who I keep going back to and love the works of: SamandDean76 - on both Tumblr/AO3 compo67 - on AO3 nyxocity - on AO3 (but believe they are no longer active) brokenlittleboy - on AO3
What kinds of fics do you like to write?
My works list is a mix ranging from drabbles, medium length to long fics. It really depends on the idea and inspiration. Some stories need 2k words to be told others need tens of thousands but I believe my sweet spot is around the 10-15k mark as I like to plan plot outline and majore milestones but also love just letting it flow however it wants to.
Drop a link to your masterlist on Tumblr or Works list on AO3 so we can check out your writing!
Drop a link to your most underappreciated fic!
My most underappreciated fic is a drabble but most underappreciated fic that I was super excited about posting but which did not get a lot of attention was a choose your own adventure A/B/O fic that had a Wincestiel main pairing. And I wonder if I posted it in the best way or if there is a better way to do it. :)
Is there something you have not written but would like to try? Why haven't you tried before? How can we help?
Moments like this happen as I take part in more bangs and reverse bangs where people put forward concepts and ideas that have never occurred to me and it is endlessly fascinating to try out new ideas and things. As of right now I can't think of anything that I want to but haven't tried yet.

Not really. I occasionally art, but want to learn to vid if there's someone around to teach it.

Not Reader inserts, for sure. I like plot and longer fic myself, but pretty much anything between Gen and Explicit is great if its well written. It's all about nailing the character for me.
What genres do you like to read? Angst? Fluff? Smut? Crack? What are your favorite tropes?
Yes is the short answer! I love all of it, but tend to write crack although not always. I love angsty stuff, and casefic.
Do you have a favorite Fanfic writer? If yes, tell us who! (Please let us know if they are on Tumblr or AO3.)
felisblanco is on both. Roxymissrose is on Ao3 and deadlybride is on Tumblr (zmedia) and Ao3 too. There are others, but those are a good start.
What kinds of fics do you like to write?
Cracky, silly stuff, plotty casefic and occasionally PWP.

What are you looking for in the Pond? What can we do for you?
I haven't used Tumblr in years, so I'll be semi-new here. I'm looking to connect with people, find new things to read, get inspired, create, and maybe even make new friends through this community. It's a place to connect with others who love what I love and learn from them. 😊
What pairings do you like to read? Reader inserts? Ships? Poly fics?
Don't really ever like to read any fics with ships mostly OFC or Reader inserts
What genres do you like to read? Angst? Fluff? Smut? Crack? What are your favorite tropes?
Angst, Fluff, Everything 18+, Smut, and all AU's
Do you have a favorite Fanfic writer? If yes, tell us who! (Please let us know if they are on Tumblr or AO3.)
I have three AO3: @smolandgrumpy @Zeppelin_Skies ( on Tumblr @zepskies) @neganslucilletblr (Same @ on Tumblr)
What kinds of fics do you like to write?
The fics I like to write revolve around love.
Drop a link to your masterlist on Tumblr or Works list on AO3 so we can check out your writing!
Drop a link to your most underappreciated fic!
The only fic that I have up at the moment is a TVD one. Right now it's on a little break because I have three SPN fics that will be out sometime this summer.
Is there something you have not written but would like to try? Why haven't you tried before? How can we help?
I'd like to try writing some one-shots. I have a hard time keeping things short and sweet, but hopefully, I'll be able to hop on a writer's challenge after connecting with others on here.
That's all for this month, folks! (If we're missing anyone, let us know and we'll add them to next month's list!) Make sure to say hi to the newbies and make them feel welcome! Thanks to all from @manawhaat, @mrswhozeewhatsis, @mariekoukie6661, @thoughtslikeaminefield, and @heavenssexiestangel!

Wasting Beats In This Heart Of Mine - how it would have ended
Hello, folks! As some of you already know or have heard me mention previously, my TLH fanfic WBITHOM is coming to an end. I am no longer comfortable with it being in the public eye since it involves a lot of personal stuff for me, and so I have decided to delete the fic entirely on every platform it's been published on (that's Quotev, AO3, and Wattpad) rather than rewrite the entire thing. This will also finally give me the chance to focus on other written works. Maybe I'll return to fandom with a rewrite one day for anyone interested, but for now, the future is dedicated to other things. The fic will be deleted in 48 hours, so readers on Quotev and AO3 have a chance to download the unfinished fic if they so desire before then or just have one last read. I ask that no one rewrites or adds an ending to my fic and publishes it anywhere without my knowledge and permission. Never put an author's work through AI either. I still have several copies of my fanfic and its outline, so I will always have evidence of where the story comes from.
WBITHOM is a monster, with the master document coming to well over 150,000 words and the fic so far being ~146,000 words (the entire outline and all my notes makes up over 4,000 words, yes). I predict that, had I finished the fic, it would come close to 188,000 words (so, there was a decent ways to go still). It's the biggest thing I've attempted, but because of that, it is also the most time-consuming (it's been almost a year and a half of writing, and each chapter either takes two full days to write or weeks) and it takes up the most space in my head, not really leaving room for the other ideas I want to explore.
So, as someone suggested, I thought I'd give readers who were hoping to see the fic to its proper end some closure. That's what this post is for: how it would have ended. Along the way, I'll explain some things too about recurring themes and motifs and all manner of behind the scenes and thoughts behind my ideas.
Character Arc Summaries
As readers know, this story follows the characters of Lila Raftis, James Herondale, Cordelia Carstairs, and Matthew Fairchild. They're all the most significant figures, though we do see other perspectives and side characters too. Essentially, Lila Raftis struggles with loneliness due to a myriad of other issues she has to work through, and James Herondale's arc starts with his depression and turns into a journey to authenticity where he feels like his own person and not just what he has been written or expected to be. Cordelia Carstairs' physical state of being lost extends to how lost she is within, and she ends realising that she has been continuously defining herself through other people. I see her as leaving London and the love triangle with James and (unconfessed) Matthew (and Lila) to deconstruct a lot of the ideals she was trying to live up to and why. As for Matthew Fairchild, I made the deliberate decision for him to turn into a werewolf and have that separation from Shadowhunter society so that he could pursue the arts and build a better life that he would find more satisfaction with, also eventually becoming sober. I took inspiration from his time at the academy, particularly when he turns to Lila in one of the earlier acts and asks if it's so bad to not be a Shadowhunter. At first, he regrets turning, but I planned for him to wind up relieved.
Honestly, while this work is very self-insert (and that's not a bad thing generally, but I've been finding it uncomfortable as time goes on, so that's why I prefer to take it down and keep it to myself), it was also my way of going How It Should Have Ended for the TLH series as a whole. I started it before ChoT, yes, but that book only led to minor changes and alternate paths taken -- I was already using ChoI as a base to steer these characters in the directions I thought they should go.
The Rest Of Act Three
The rest of Act Three of the fanfic is summarised below (...at length. It's a lengthy summary).
We ended the fanfic on the chapter where James and Lila returned to London, 1903 of his dimension. He was gravely wounded in his left arm, which ends up being amputated despite the efforts of Lila and Lucie (and Gus' help too). This is, of course, a reference to the recent fan art of James where a headcanon went around that the reason we couldn't see his other arm was because it just didn't exist. I took it and ran, which was not planned. I knew I wanted James injured so that Lila could return the care he once had shown her when she was wounded badly, but it wasn't going to be as severe as it ended up being. This is how we ended up at the Institute instead of 48 Curzon Street as I had previously planned for the chapter. James was going to be fine, but Cordelia had decided to confront Lila about several things, and they'd end the night having kissed -- which in turn leads Lila to going for a walk to clear her head and her subsequently getting kidnapped by Jonathan Bell (the Other James from another dimension). Anyway, the change did make some of these plot points awkward (😭) hence why I spent ages editing the make out between Lila and Cordelia because I could not decide how it should start and end. It was a nightmare. As Silver pointed out, it didn't make a whole lot of sense in the order of events (Cordelia should have gone to see James first), but I was in a mad rush to finally release the update since I knew people were waiting. The kidnapping also was not quite as dramatic as I envisioned it, but oh well. I'm actually quite happy with the rest of the chapter though.
From there comes the rest of the fic that readers probably will not get to experience, so that's why I'm writing this out, so you at least know the mysteries that I won't get to reveal and how we get to the end.
Jonathan Bell kidnaps Lila and, through the use of shadow, they end up in Paris, France. This is where Matthew also fled after his mother released him from the Silent City cells after he persuaded her into it. Lila ending up there and being away from both James and Cordelia, and spending more one-on-one time with our antagonist and Matthew since the earlier parts of the book was always intended.
Jonathan is revealed to have possession of another silver pen, which is a reference to a previous fanfic I wrote (also deleted) called Chain of Lies, where the pen could literally rewrite reality if you used your own blood for ink. In Jonathan's dimension, Lila ended up staying in his world and marrying him, but she also dies of a mysterious sickness during their honeymoon, so he uses the pen to go back in time and cancel their honeymoon, under the impression she would not get sick. Instead, she was hit by a car several days earlier, and died in the accident. Jonathan goes back again to stop that from happening, but Lila ends up dying again anyway, over and over again in different ways, every time Jonathan reverses time to prevent each event from occurring. Eventually, he goes so far back in their timeline together that he's reliving the December when they met, and that's how he knows how to divert the accidents in WBITHOM that threaten harm to this other dimension's Lila (are you still with me?). But before that, he created a time loop in that December of his dimension just trying to keep Lila alive for two years of his life whereas everyone else remained the same, but stuck in time. It's supposed to be very angsty and tragic, and it's a demonstration of one of James Herondale's core traits eventually twisting horribly wrong: how he would do anything for those he loves, whether that be family, friends, or lovers.
This character flaw/strength is something I reference lightly a few times throughout the fanfic, mostly in the ways he is concerned about the safety of his family and friends which he tries to find out from Lila, who has read Chain of Iron and knows what the future is supposed to be, and then how he reflects on how he does not know what he would do when someone he loves dies. Honestly, the issue is that he cares too much about people, which is both a good thing and a bad thing, depending on how far it goes. Jonathan is the literal embodiment of what would happen if James' care went too far, if it bordered on obsession, if he wanted to keep someone from dying so bad that he would sacrifice everything else, even the universe.
So, Jonathan finally confesses to the time-loop and explains that as a drastic measure, he tried finding Lila in another dimension to see if he could save her there, but this tearing of the time-loop to escape it worsened a tear that Cordelia had already created in her fight with Belial and the Mandikhor to such a point that it started growing and expanding and destroying the fabric of time and space between dimensions and the universe as a whole. You know, wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey... stuff (Doctor Who reference for those who get it). The thing he did not realise though is that in this timeline, Lila is not meant to die, so long as she goes back home instead of staying in 1903 (he still doesn't know this, it's just a fact I would have explained to the readers when we meet Circe, the employer of Poppy Morad (P.M.) and Saint Nicholas). This is supposed to leave Lila conflicted, because as much as she wants to hate his guts for being the reason for her family disappearing and the worlds ending, even this Other James is a reflection of her own nature, which is another thing that's been lingering beneath the surface for the duration as the fic: while James has a doppelganger that demonstrates who he might become if he cannot accept loss, he and Lila have similarities boiling beneath the surface that go unnoticed until an outburst we saw Lila have where she basically accuses James of being just like her (not complimentary at the time).
Lila as a character is someone who cares deeply, but is willing to sacrifice herself and others to protect what or who she cares deeply about (yet we also see her choose self-preservation over self-sacrifice a few times before she truly starts acting in service of others). Her circle of people she cares about is more limited than James', but the shared sentiments still stand. Plus, the way Jonathan has acted this entire time has always bordered on unnerving or odd -- I did that on purpose. He's been driven to obsession, where he's basically an extreme of what James and Lila believe in. And he is both James and not James in this way, if that makes sense. We see in one of Lila's nightmares earlier in the book Jonathan saying it does not matter which version of him he is or which version of her she is -- they belong together. Fully delusional at this point, but it's meant to be scary. I'm kind of obsessed that Jonathan is also a mirror for Lila to see how she might look to her James: someone who knows you way too well, but you've also never met nor know much about at all (she might know James but she does not know this one), who's inexplicably fixated on you (granted, James did not even begin to guess Lila's feelings, and hers were rather superficial in a way until they spent more time together).
Anyway, basically, the start of this rewrite of Chain of Lies pretty much began with these dynamics between the two Jameses and Lila. It was a whole thing with diagrams and late night ranting to my poor sister and everything.
So, of course, Lila is conflicted and she also does not know how she's supposed to get Jonathan to reverse the problem he has created -- whether he's also supposed to go back to his dimension and whether that will be enough to repair the tear. Most of this happens in the Notre Dame cathedral because I said so (I like cathedrals as settings, sue me if you dare).
Meanwhile, Matthew has been in Paris and totally avoiding Charles, so he also hears nothing of Will and Tessa being notified about James' injury in London and leaving by portal. But he does hear some French Shadowhunter gossip about the Consul's werewolf son's disappearance when he discovers Lila being taken to the cathedral by a masked man. Then ensues a solo rescue operation. Honestly, I always have a lot of fun writing Matthew, it's hard not to include him more. Anyway, the rescue is successful, and he takes Lila back to his hotel room to lay low for the night before he gets her back to London with the others (since he recognises that they must have no idea where she is, what happened, and she's an integral part of solving this whole mess, as people are still disappearing in this world).
I had a really nice scene planned that I'd been waiting the entire book to write, but basically Lila and Matthew spend a sober night together (as opposed to their time in the Silent City together) where they talk about all their woes, including their love lives, and eventually they get on to the topic of how they could have smoothed over both their dilemmas if they just had each other as lovers, if only their similarities were not such that would probably be self-destructive at this point in their lives. Because we've seen often in the book other characters compare these two, but it's these two themselves who recognise that, yes, they are alike in some ways, but not the ways it counts in order to have a healthy romantic relationship. They settle on being good friends. Matthew also takes her measurements so they can pick up some quick changes of clothes since Lila's still wearing her grimy outfit she wore during the explosion. And she also brings up that she knows he's an artist, but asks that she have the chance to sketch him, and he offers to do so in return, so they spend the rest of the night drawing, which I just find so sweet. There's not much significance in that at face value, it's just cute, but I also see Matthew embracing an old hobby as one of the first steps he takes in moving on from all his pain and finding better outlets for it.
Also, the platonic nature between Lila and Matthew, the complicated romance with James and Cordelia, and then all the familial themes and side-plots going on are all part of an idea I had going into this that I wanted to demonstrate many facets of love and the importance of each in their individual right. If anything, given the extreme slowburn I've come at James/Lila/Cordelia with particularly, I want to end this book purposefully with none of them winding up together because so many other things mattered more than their romance, and even the kind of loves they have for each other are a reason they don't end up staying because they would all rather see each other safe and not see each other at all than know they might cause other problems by being in the wrong dimensions.
Anyway, because I do multiple perspectives for everything, while Matthew and Lila and Jonathan have their bit going on in Paris, back in London we see James coming to terms with his disability and in all his rumination over what's happened and Lila being missing but him being unable to go out and find her, James finally (FINALLY!) realises his romantic feelings for Lila. This also leads to a scene between him and Cordelia where they both discuss Lila and their feelings for her. Cordelia also confesses how she has felt for James for a long time, but she also explains that she wants nothing to come of it anymore because she does not see herself settling down with him like she previously thought. James is a bit stung by this (I mean, my guy had no idea about Cordelia's true feelings until now and then she also springs a rejection on him at the same time when he's just begun to realise some of his own feelings around her) but is ultimately relieved since he feels he needs more time to figure out who he is and the life he wants without the bracelet numbing him.
We also would have seen Poppy Morad and Saint Nicholas again and their increasing distress and alarm with how difficult Jonathan Bell has been to track and control since he's hared of to Paris with Lila.
When Jonathan finds out Lila's gone, he feels betrayed and frustrated by his failure. Because while he feels he has saved her, she's refusing to be his as she once was in his dimension (also why he was confused and then against her leaving and going home earlier in the story). The world is breaking down around him (we start to see parts of Paris going up in flames, not unlike London 2021 of Lila's dimension) and he's about to go track Lila down again (but now he's going a bit more heavily into Villain Mode).
We also see Poppy Morad closing in on Jonathan as he returns to London when she's defecting orders from Circe, her higher up, to take him down instead of corralling Lila's effects on the timeline.
Lila and Matthew return to London on Christmas Eve just hours before the end of the world properly starts in 1903. This is also when she and James interact for the first time since he passed out on the bridge several days ago. I was a bit undecided on how I wanted this scene to look, other than I needed them to finally confess their feelings for each other in the rain like a cliche after they have an argument where Lila says that James has everything she wants (and this is where we realise the root of her problem in this whole book is not simply loneliness, but a dissatisfaction with herself and her life, which has lent itself to the more superficial issues she's been having) but that ultimately she also just wanted him though she knows she cannot be with him without risking everything. So, when James confesses his side, they decide to spend what little time they have left with each other as best as they can. (And this where I as an author push them together like Barbie dolls and go "now kiss").
Have I mentioned this story has too many layers and plot points and it's been driving me mad this entire time I've been writing it? Anyway.
They quickly determine with The Gang™️ that "Belial" and "Lilith" are not who they seem to be anymore, because while Alastair just got arrested for the murder of Lilian Highsmith (oh yeah, that happens while Lila and Matthew are in Paris, because I wanted a reversal where it's Thomas who stands up for Alastair when he's accused of murder, just for funsies) everything else that has happened seems to be related to whoever this P.M. (remember when Cordelia was also accused of murder because Filomena thought she saw Cordelia when she was attacked?) and Matthew body double is (spoiler: Poppy Morad and Saint Nicholas are codenames for other versions of Cordelia Carstairs and Matthew Fairchild in another timeline, I'll explain more about this later, but what you can probably surmise already is that this alternate Cordelia has taken the place of Belial within this dimension and is the one murdering all the victims (including her father. That was a difficult point, because we see in a PM and Saint Nick scene that he's concerned about whether she can go through with it) and Matthew has taken Lilith's place in some minor ways (like hiding and then handing back Cortana at the right moments)).
Anyway, because Lila's kind of behind on some events, she goes to confess to Cordelia (but explain how she also feels about James), when Cordelia says there's a lot more she wants out of life before she pursues romance again. That she's been so consumed by it, by finding love, by getting married, she's lost who she is beneath it all. (Have you noticed the theme for every character in this fic is basically authenticity and finding oneself despite whatever circumstances they find themselves in?)
Then, we also would have seen Lila dedicate herself to taking down Jonathan herself since he's the main problem that's tearing things apart and perhaps if he's killed then he can no longer influence time and reality.
Vaguely, I had planned that James and Lila would have what my outline says is "an emotional night together" because it could mean literally anything and I wasn't totally sure where I wanted it to go. So. Interpret that one how you will with whatever you prefer, honestly. Anyway, while that's happening, we see Matthew go home to his mother who is, understandably, worried sick and mad because he never wrote to her like he was supposed to and Charles return without him. We see Matthew collapse into her arms and just sob. That was the plan. It's important to me that he's actually vulnerable with her for once and that he, a young man too big to be in his mother's arms, lets himself be held anyway. There was also supposed to be a wholesome Thomastair moment that I hadn't really planned, though I knew Alastair would go home with Cordelia afterwards and she would start her journey to forgiving him. We also would have seen her kneel in front of Sona to confess A Whole Lot Of Things about what's been happening in her life, from as early as the marriage blanc and the Blackthorn Manor incident. Basically, everything is supposed to be hopeful even if it hurts just a bit and feels a little bittersweet. Because then in the chapter this all would have taken place in, we'd end with Saint Nicholas and Poppy Morad collecting the pithos from Christopher who picked it up in the background of everything (basically, all the Belial storyline has still been operating as it should, except it's being orchestrated by PM instead of Belial), when Jonathan sneaks up on them and fatally wounds (he had the intent to kill) Saint Nicholas, who he is shocked to find out in that moment is an alternate Matthew.
AND THEN, next chapter we would have had at the tolling of midnight, signaling Christmas day, PM the alternate Cordelia (whose character is the way it is because she's been hardened by some long and traumatic years -- she and alternate Matthew have a tragic backstory that I've been keeping in my back pocket that wasn't really necessary to be explained in the story, but if you want to know more, just ask) drags a dying alternate Matthew back to their tent where Circe, their mysterious employer, is torn away from her work elsewhere to start enacting emergency world-fixing in this timeline. This is also when we find out Circe's identity: she is Cassandra Clare, once again (if you read Chain of Lies) who's codename was derived from the common shortened CC she's referred to in fandom, who has universal powers and basically controls (to an extent) a good portion of the universe. Like a god. But also not. It's a whole mysterious thing that I never intended to explain because I think some things are better unexplained.
THEN, Jonathan shows up to 48 Curzon Street, covered in blood and calling for Lila. A fight between him and James (and sort of Lila who's attacking Jonathan though he refuses to attack her) ensues before he ends it all by taking out a silver pen (The Silver Pen) where we see 'Nikoletta' engraved on it, and writes a time-loop which snaps the final threads keeping all the timelines and dimensions in order.
Act Four Explained Slightly More Briefly
This is the final act of the book and also the shortest. It was planned to only be about six chapters long. Now, I was most excited about this part of the book because I had ✨visions✨. No, literally, the entire inspiration of this entire fanfic came from a dream I had about James Herondale as Spider-Man, me impersonating Cordelia Carstairs and not knowing how to do Shadowhunter things, Santa Claus as Father Time, and the end of the universe, and this is where we would have finally get to see it all come together.
We kick it off with an entire chapter dedicated to a lot of scenes similar to what I've written earlier in the book with Lila and James' nightmares, where nothing makes complete sense and yet the reader is meant to feel on the cusp of understanding something alongside the characters before the dreams usually end. Only they don't here. The dreams are reality, but reality is broken, and there is no waking up because there is also no sleeping and there is no normal but faint memories of what came before. So not only is the environment ever-shifting (think of it almost like a kaleidoscope and you have maybe a quarter of my vision here), but the people also keep "glitching" between different versions of themselves at different points in time and in different realities even (sometimes the doubles join and then they split apart, it's a weird nightmareish sort of thing in my mind), and so they also have different memories and levels of knowledge about things that have happened and what's going on. We see it mostly through Lila and James' perspectives. There's supposed to be a lot of angst and a feel like everything is a fever dream.
In the next chapter, things only start to get slightly ordered when Jonathan Bell finds Lila and says he'll rewrite the universe she wants so that it's perfect for her, and can have it be anything she wants, so long as they are together (major creep vibes though, honestly, as sweet as this might sound to some). This is also me addressing a problem from my original fanfic before this one, Chain of Lies, where I basically gave that silver pen waaay too much power, and now I'm demonstrating what it can do and so, like the one ring to rule them all, it must be destroyed (once Lila or someone else gets a hold of it to rewrite and fix the fabric of everything). Alastair saves Lila from Jonathan this time (he's still a bit prickly, but we see he still cares about Lila anyway), and demands she go find Cordelia to end Jonathan (Cordelia has Cortana which can cut through anything, which is important). Then we also would have seen that James is stranded somewhere with a fluctuating Matthew (the vision is that he keeps changing states from a werewolf to a living corpse to himself at various ages) and they are attempting to find PM, the alternate Cordelia, who knows Circe who should be able to fix everything as PM explains (she got separated from Circe and Saint Nicholas when the world went crazy). She leads them partway before she's taken by the collapsing world (she disappears basically, because that can still happen to people). When Lila finds her Cordelia, she's in the Paladin state (imagine glowing eyes and a vague aura of scariness with a glowing sword and you've got it) and it takes a bit to get through to her so they can make a plan to take down Jonathan.
Chapter after that, we have Cordelia distracting Jonathan so Lila can steal the pen, but she realises she does not know how to write an ending that does not kill all the Jameses since, as Jonathan once put it in her nightmares, "it does not matter which version of him I am... we are the same". This hesitance gets Cordelia fatally wounded, though she's not quite dead yet, but it's the final push Lila needs to kill Jonathan with Cortana (as also seen in a dream she had ages ago without realising it), and Circe finally manages to pull enough worldly strings in this chaos to pause time long enough for James and Lila to reunite to do the re-writing with her.
From there, we have two alternate paths. I called these basically "the happy ending that could have been" and "the bittersweet ending that was", which I was inspired to write by The Umbrella Academy (if you know, you know, I won't spoil it for anyone else who doesn't).
In the happy ending that could have been, we see the characters a couple years down the line. We also find out that Lila would not have died like she did in the other universe. She and James are together and they end up planning to propose to each other on the same day, which is the day after Lila successfully ascends. Then we see Cordelia and Matthew travelling together across the world as friends. After that, we would have seen Thomas and Alastair having dinner at the Lightwoods'. Finally, the Raftis family believe Lila is missing, presumed dead, but after a couple years they are finally moving on.
The bittersweet ending that was though is where Lila goes home. The friends she's made in London 1903 see her off before James takes her back to her dimension where they'd have one final goodbye on Blackfriars Bridge. That night, Cordelia gets on a train to set off and travel on her own. We also see Matthew, who has already picked up Oscar a couple days earlier, going to Gus' flat to complain that Oscar misses Gus and would not stop whining until they came by. We see Matthew finally tentatively suggest a first date, and Gus would accept. We close this part of the ending much like we started the book, with James walking alone in the night, just as he was when he left the Devil Tavern and his story took a different direction to canon when he found himself outside Cornwall Gardens where he met with Alastair. This time, James is alone, and he's feeling a little hopeful about the future ahead.
We get one final chapter before the epilogue where it's mostly Lila's perspective as she finally gets to experience Christmas with her family in 2021 and I planned for the beginning of some family healing and bonding to occur. Then we would have seen future James once more, who it turns out is now tasked by Circe (CC) with maintaining the space between dimensions, but this means he can't be in any one for very long since it's a lot of work that takes up time.
And now we get to the epilogue. Every time I imagine this, I get a little emotional. The epilogue would have began several years in the future with Lila dropping a bi-annual letter into the Thames, which I liken to the River Styx, in that it's where all lost things end up. We see, rather comedically, that she has moved out with the money she gained from some things she "stole" from Curzon Street, as well as her mysterious finding of the adamas, which scientists in her world are still amazed by. We are surprised to see though that when she goes home, she's living with the version of Matthew who nearly died in his previous role as Saint Nicholas, because CC gave him a chance to live out a new life elsewhere, in a dimension where there was not another version of himself. He and Lila seem to be doing well.
We cut to James of around December 1905 who has gone to visit his family at the Institute, where Lucie and Jesse are pouring over Cordelia's latest letter from abroad. James says he was just at Matthew's flat, and Gus was telling him about theories of time travel that the mundanes at the university Gus attends were discussing. We also find out that James himself has written a book, a science fiction piece with a ridiculously long title, about different worlds and the doubles of people that exist. After the dinner, he goes to Blackfriars Bridge and produces several of Lila's letters out of a pocket before stowing them away and shadow travelling to her dimension to leave a letter for her.
The fanfic would have ended on James' letter, which mentions briefly that he is having nightmares again of Belial's return since they have heard nothing have what happened with CC. Aside from that, the letter is rather sweet. But we see that Lila never gets a chance to read it, because CC collects it first and burns it with a lighter while humming "it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas".
Concluding Words
And that, ladies, gents, and fair folk, was how Wasting Beats In This Heart Of Mine would have ended. It has potential for a sequel. One I never want to write except in my head because, man, I am so exhausted by this fanfic alone after I already did it as a rewrite of Chain of Lies. If anything, this is the sequel to Chain of Lies and the next potential story would be the third book. It's been a long few years, I'll tell you that.
Some final things:
If you're wondering about that green coat I was always mentioning: it was supposed to be my tell, along with the gold-ringed eyes, for Saint Nicholas being an alternate Matthew, who is also the leader of the SoHo wolf pack in his origin universe. For Poppy Morad as the alternate Cordelia, who worked as Matthew's partner in time shenanigans, it was the fact that people forgot her face once they saw it because of a facial rune she applies (one that does not exist but she has courtesy of working for The CC). That's why people often knew they saw Cordelia, but could not remember the details of that meeting, if they managed to remember her at all.
The reason Lila has essentially what I call "a death aura" is because of her alternate selves, many of whom die, and it's something that leaks between worlds as the walls steadily break down.
At some point in Le Grand Reveal Of The Time-loop, Lila realises that the detailing on Jonathan's mask matches the floral detail on the back of The Joker card she's been carrying around with her sister's initials this whole time, which hints at just how significant some of the objects in this story are and the meanings they can give (The Fool and The Master being other common names for the card, related to its unpredictability and capability of being anything).
Jonathan wears, obviously, his crimson cape, but his clothes are a deep navy blue and this is part of my reference to Spider-Man and the original dream that inspired all of this.
Future James does indeed have diamond stud earrings. I said so.
At the end of the book, CC would have reinstated Lilith and Belial (whom she removed for previously causing problems in other dimensions where they became too aware of alternate timelines) with altered memories, so the stories can generally continue where they left off (some a couple years later, which has some interesting effects if I wrote the next book, in theory).
And I think that's all I have. But if anyone has any questions at all, feel free to reply to the post to ask, message me, or put it straight into the ask box, I'm more than happy to answer since I'm already depriving you of a properly written-out neat ending to everything. Reminder that I am deleting the fanfic WBITHOM in roughly 48 hours from the time of this post, so after that it will not be available on any public platforms for reading. I am not taking down any of my other fanfics (except for the few that I already have some weeks ago).
Thank you to the readers who have supported me on this longass journey. You were often the reason I kept going when I wanted to give up on writing fanfic, especially writing this one, which has been a very trying process (I mean, it took me half a day just to explain the last approximate third of the damn book, for crying out loud). I appreciate the kudos, the comments, and all the enthusiasm. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Take care now, and I'll see you in the updates of other works in the future.

P.S. special thank you to @thevagabondexpress who endured many hours of me blabbering way too much about this fic and these characters, who I pestered to give me feedback as I fretted over whether I was doing everything right (spoiler: there's no right way, just better ways), and who cared about this when I struggled to. You suggested I might find a way to give readers some closure. And so I also give thanks to @faithfromanewperspective, who went nuts for an Australian OC (understandably, as I would too) and blazed through my entire fic and encouraged me inadvertently to start updating again after a long dry spell. You still absolutely get to see my drafts and outline next time we catch up in person, but I hope for now that this is a good description of the rest of what the book would have been and it gives you some closure, as well as for the other readers. Thank you also to @quantummeep for reading and commenting! I can never get out of my head how even early on in your reading you recognised all the plot threads that I had been weaving together, and it meant so much to me that you appreciated the level of detail I tried to work with.
Thank you all and to the other readers who also supported me 💛

Rétorquas-tu.❞
