What Are the Things That You Should Know When Installing a Ziptrak?
There was a time when people used to get curtains. But, now they prefer getting blinds instead of curtains. You will find it in most corporate houses and firms. It looks more modern, convenient, and stylish when compared to traditional curtains.
There are multiple types of Blinds available in the market. Manufacturers of Awnings produce in different designs, sizes, colors, and patterns. Indeed, you will find a variety of blinds available in the market.
The one we will talk about today is also a type of blind.
Before installing the cave Blinds and the Ziptrak blind, you need to choose the fabric and learn about the installation cycle.
It does not matter whether you are the one who is going to get the service work or provide the service.
These things should get known by both categories.
What are the things to consider when you want to install a blind?
The Installation of Ziptrak and cafe blind is available in multiple shades, designs, patterns, and colors. You can get them in PVC plastic, available in light smoke, dark smoke, and dark tint colors. It also has a different variety named a shade mesh that is available in a range of colors so that you can choose the one you want.
What are the suitable materials for installing the Ziptrak?
It is good to know that the cafe blind and the Ziptrak get fitted with brick, concrete, and wooden material. It will rely on the thickness of the wooden slab, and the quality of how the installation expert gets the job done.
What's the warranty that you get.
The Installation of Ziptrak and cafe blind will come with a warranty of about five years. From the date of purchase to the five years, if anything happens to the product, you can get it replaced. It usually happens when you buy the blind from branded stores.
How much time will it last?
The complete system lasts for about 15 years. The durability of installing the Ziptrak and the blind will depend on when it gets installed because if it is in constant touch with the sun it will cause damage to the blind. The minimum time you can expect it to last is about 15 years. If it gets less exposed to Sun, Shade sails Auckland will last more than 15 years.
How much time will it take to install the Ziptrak?
The installation cycle will depend on what type of material you have chosen. For instance, it will take less time if you are installing Ziptrak on steel or Timber surfaces.
How often do you need to clean the Ziptrak?
This sort of blind can get cleaned with a broom, brush, or soapy solution. The best thing is that you don't have to take all your time to clean the blinds. You can do it twice a month and you get sorted. For quotes on Shade sails Auckland, reach us today.

Life in Technicolor || Self-Para
When: Over the span of Nova’s life
Where: Auckland & Santa Monica
Triggers: None
Featuring: Seon-Hee Kang-Mitchell & Oliver Mitchell
Ever since Nova was little, her mother knew that she had a gift with music, but never really knew how deep that music gift lied until she was older. As Nova grew up, she remembered the soft humming of her mother to be a soft mint color, her favorite color to this day. When she sang Mariah Carey it was a bubblegum pink and when she sang Whitney or Uhm Jung-hwa, it was a vibrant fuchsia. Her whole life, she believed that music had its own color. Every beat, every melody, every tune, was all associated with its own color. When she was first gifted her first toddler piano, she would purposely play each note one by one, each burst of color appearing in front of her eyes. Do-Do-Sol-Sol-La-La-Sol. Do was a beautiful candy apple red. Sol lived up to its name, a beautiful golden color. La was a princess pink. The colors together looked like the sunrises she would sleepily see whenever she hugged her mama goodbye before work.
And it was by those notes Seon-Hee knew that a then 3-year old Nova was talented upon hearing each note perfectly clear.
She remembered the first time her stepdad had picked her up from school. It was just the two of them, and California Love by 2Pac had come on. Nova’s smile only grew by the bright ocean blues and sunny golden hues that sailed from the radio to dance in front of her. Roger Troutman’s talk box voice was a holographic, iridescent color, almost like a robot or something futuristic. Dr. Dre’s lyrics came out as this fiery Scarlet color that contrasted against the blue and gold, while 2Pac’s voice was an orange color, very much tuned into his homage to his home. She could feel that feeling of screaming about how much you loved your home with such fervor, just by those colors.
It wasn’t until after the move to California where her teacher had picked up on something interesting. Now this teacher, Mrs. Espinoza, enjoyed listening to classical music during art time and felt that the students benefitted greatly from this. Nova, was one of those students. During Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, Nova often switched up between different shades of navy and dark blue to silver and grey with a hint of black. Her teacher took note of this and tried a different song. This time it was DeBussy’s Clair De Lune. In this case, Nova. Switched out between a Parisian pink, cherry blossom pink, and a soft Periwinkle color. This experiment continued on until parent teacher conferences when her teacher then said,
“I believe Nova has synesthesia. It’s nothing to be alarmed, but synesthesia is a joining of perception. In Nova’s case, when she hears a different tune she sees a different color.”
Seon-Hee was skeptical at first, but she and Oliver took Nova to get tested by a psychiatrist. They watched from the other side of a two-way mirror an eight year old Nova see a certain song as a specific color. From cerulean, crimson, vermilion, and violet, and every color in between. The colors bursted out for her each and every time.
As Nova got older, she kept this gift to herself, much to her mother’s chagrin. She felt it would be a good thing to boast about, whereas Nova kept it a secret out of fear of being looked at differently…or maybe it was because she feared about losing that love and connection to both music and art if she told someone. Oliver understood this quietly and often had to talk Seon-Hee from pushing too hard on Nova when it came to her gift by saying,
“Give her time to open up to her gift. We have to remember this is how she views her whole life. There’s that fear of overstimulation, too.”
It was true that there were times Nova would get overstimulated with too much noise around her. Too much noise meant too much color and too much color often had Nova wind up with migraines that had her sitting in complete darkness with noise cancelling headphones playing the sounds of the ocean. She didn’t want that part known…who’d adjust that for her.
So when close to her would notice whenever she listened to music while sketching or painting but she’d laugh it off and say,
“It’s just the change in tides. It’s simply the vibe.”
It pained her to keep that part of her hidden at times, because she has a yearning for those to see the world as she does. To hear her favorite song and see the different hues envelope her in a warm hug. To talk about how each sketch she’s done or each piece of art work she’s painted was inspired by a song that she couldn’t get out of her head and thus, couldn’t stop seeing those colors until she finally put it down on paper.
“Maybe one day, eomma,” Nova would reassure her mom with a smile. “Maybe one day, I’ll let the world know of my gift.”

Week 2: Creative Intelligence
Class 2 (28 July)
What is Creative intelligence to you?
Your ability to come up with things
Piecing one thing
(PowerPoint Presentation on Creative Intelligence)
“Creative intelligence is that which emerges when you combine intellect (mind, ratio, reasoning) with imagination (the ability to conceive something new, see in a different way and make connections) and you start using this for progress and improvement. The combination of these two enables you to come up with relevant new ideas.”
Paper clip activity
This activity was to help us figure out ways to build off ideas into creating more ideas, I'm pretty sure. We had to think of different ways we could use a paperclip in 2 mins.
How many ways to use a paperclip?
Paperclip
Hairclip
Hair tie
Decoration
toothpick
pick
“Convergent and divergent thinking are the two types of human response to a set of problems that were identified" - J.P Guilford (1967)
We looked at divergent and convergent thinking, looking at the multiple and different ideas or information which is divergent and then converge into looking for the best idea or bit of information.
Inspiration Material
Think of the many ways to use this material. (Group Activity)
Packaging
Bag
Furniture Material
Tarpaulin (Coverage)
Curtains
Insulation
Placemat
shade
Clothing
Sushi roller
flooring/mat
Art
the material was revealed to be from a sail of a boat and was discarded, students from AUT used this material to create a variety of things eg. bags, and baskets. The material was too fragile to be used for objects that would be repeatedly touched so they came up with the idea of lamp shade.
Blending Ideas Activity
choosing two random objects from an envelope we had to write down 7-10 keywords we would associate with both of them, selecting one word from both lists we would have to try and come up with and create a new business in Auckland showing the blend strategy.
The objects I picked from the envelope was a telescope and music notes
Telescope
Glass
View
Space
Stars
Nasa
Eye
Extend
Meteors
Planets
Music Notes
Songs
Rhythm
Artists
Genre
Instruments
Lyrics
Events
Party
Business ideas:
Stars/ Artists: A business that creates events, bringing performers to perform eg. Coachella
Eyes/Events: Business that shows different types of art for people to view and listen to eg. Light shows, Illusions, Interactive art, etc.
Reflective Questions
What was the process like for you in generating ideas?
The process of generating ideas was probably the easier part of the activity but I did struggle with trying to come up with more ideas for keywords, I felt that I had done the obvious ones.
Which objects were easier? Which objects were harder? Why?
I thought both of them were fairly the same with both being easy and hard, I had the basic words come to mind and trying to find more words had me stun locked and made me think more hard rather than letting them come to me.
How did you feel?
During the activity I felt calm yet I felt a bit shy because there was a new person on my table that I hadn't talked to or known but this did not affect the activity of trying find words or come up with a business.
What have you learned from this activity that you could take into future creative ideas generating sessions?
I've learned the way of combining ideas to create a better one and the many ideas you can come up with.
Do electronic devices increase or decrease our creative intelligence?
I think electronic devices can both increase and decrease our creative intelligence. Increase by finding new ideas and inspiration through other peoples or interesting images that can add on to your own ideas but then the decrease is electronic devices being distracting and can steer you away from what you are focusing on.
Play dough Activity
We were given play dough and instructed to build a family of an animal we choose working as a group. My group chose whales because we wanted to do something a bit different. We made play dough whales and then we had to make a stop motion film with our play dough for the whales.
Our storyline of the play dough whales was to show three whales (Mother, Father, and child) swimming together in the ocean, the child whale swam off further into the distance meeting a different type of whale (One of our group members made their whale and we thought it looked cute and different so we made that whale a different looking whale who was an outcast) they bonded and soon came the parents of the child whale, meeting the outcast whale they chose to accept the whale as one of their own becoming part of the family and they swam off into the wild together.

Scarlet Lady Cruise Ship
7 Oct 2020
Scarlet Lady
Architects: Concrete
In addition to proudly presenting an extravagant project featuring architecture, multiple bars and restaurants, a gym, a running track, two pools, a 360-degree lookout, the biggest sunbed in the world, and more… concrete is most proud of designing their first-ever traveling project: The Scarlet Lady cruise ship for Virgin Voyages.
Scarlet Lady is ready for her guests to arrive and will soon set sail in the Caribbean. Three additional ships will follow the same blueprint; the second, called Valliant Lady, is almost ready to explore the Mediterranean.
concrete completely changed the blueprint of traditional cruise ships by adding an actual running track and a two-story F&B pavilion as the beating heart of the Aquatic Club. The red loop floats elegantly over the upper deck and functions not just as a promenade, but also as a visual connection between the Perch at the very top of the ship and the Athletic & Aquatic Club on the decks below. It is the perfect spot to see and be seen.
” Scarlet Lady is set to make waves, challenge preconceptions, and possibly make cruising cool. ”
quote from an article about Virgin Voyages from Wallpaper*
Athletic Club Designed with the aesthetic of athletic social clubs of the past, our club incorporates not just an active Training Camp room and boxing classes, but also a basketball court and cold-pressed juice bar. The best of both wellness worlds just a few feet apart. The Athletic Club is where activity meets leisure, and sweat and support mingle. The club extends across both sides of the aft of the ship as an active outdoor lounge and adult playground. Topped by a sundeck, it features the largest daybed at sea as the perfect place on board to sunbathe or gaze at the stars.
Aquatic Club With smooth curves and nautical details, the pool deck has the sophisticated glam of a contemporary superyacht. Whether you’re looking for mornings spent sunbathing on one of the daybeds, or letting last night’s choices fade away as you glide through the water — the pool club is a serene space for ultimate relaxation.
Runway or running track The signature, Virgin-red running track floats over the upper decks of the ship inviting passengers to sprint, skate, or stroll whilst enjoying the best view over the ocean and the ship alike. It is an iconic and unique showstopper, worth changing the blueprint of the ship to make it happen. The luminous graphics will guide your athletic self day and night, and you might catch a glimpse of the all-night party on the crew deck.
Gym & Tonic After working up a sweat or standing around thinking about maybe, possibly picking up the weights, restore yourself by taking a dip in the Wellbeing [a2] Pool. More details on the Wellbeing area will soon be revealed!
B Complex Gym The Gym is divided into two parts to the port side and starboard side of the Gym &Tonic area. The starboard side part offers all you need if you are a workout fanatic and into speed. These spaces are held in cool dark blue and black, the perfect backdrop for all these trained bodies lit in theatrical light. The portside part offers all you need to reveal your inner peace. These light spaces are held in shades of off-white all featuring stunning ocean views.
The Perch Enjoy 360-degree views over the ocean, whilst an extensive red, translucent sunshade protects you from the Caribbean sun and golden bucket showers are available to cool you down quickly with a refreshing splash. The place for yoga, meditation, and stretching, or simply to escape the crowds and treat yourself to the most gorgeous ocean backdrop.
Restaurant Razzle Dazzle – deck 5 This restaurant offers creative surprises inspired by classic comfort foods. The bold interior is based on dazzle camouflage -a type of ship camouflage used extensively in World War I- based on the ability to blend in by standing out. The disruptive pattern is literally covering everything: at the walls and floors it is brought
back in diagonally layouts black and white rubber stripes, in the room dividers the pattern is build up in black powdered steel structures, and even the wooden tables in the center of the restaurant follow the diagonal pattern.
Restaurant Test Kitchen – Deck 6 Inspired by Escoffier’s Ma Cuisine, this laboratory-like restaurant is educational, experiential, and social. Hosting cooking classes and evolving tasting menus, this place is for the curious boundary-pushing foodies on board, one part cooking school, and one part restaurant.
The Test Kitchen restaurant has an eye-catching entryway with a light fixture showing images of herbs and spices that mimic the periodic table. The laboratory-like environment is accented by metallic furniture with greenish leather upholstery, sleek clean lines, custom made metallic open cupboards, and custom made fridges stocked up with storage and a finishing touch of beakers, test tubes, and volumetric flasks in them. The heart of the space forms the 2 live kitchens with bar seatings all around them.
The Scarlet Lady is ready for her guests to arrive and will set sail soon along the Caribbean. Three additional ships will follow the same blueprint, the second ship called the Vaillant Lady is almost ready to explore the Mediterranean.

NEW ZEALAND DAY 1/2 - Exploring Auckland
DAY 1 - Seeing the Sights
As soon as we landed in Auckland around 7:20 AM local time, we hit the ground running. We made our way through customs and secured our rental car in about an hour. As soon as we got to the car though, we realized that our free 2G data speed (thanks T-Mobile!) was far too slow to load any sort of GPS navigation so my mom ran back and bought a SIM card for her phone. It took my dad a second to get used to driving on the left side of the road and everything being backwards. He accidentally turned on the windshield wipers instead of the turn signal for a while at the start, and we still had to yell “Get in the left lane!” and fear for our lives a couple of times.
The very first thing we did in Auckland was get food because we were starving, and the flat, desaturated looking eggs I had for breakfast on the plane were not cutting it for me. Luckily, I was saved by breakfast gods and had the most delicious avocado toast I’ve ever tasted in my life at a little place called “Ralph’s.” Here is photo evidence of it’s beauty (bottom plate) before I devoured the whole thing in a number of minutes.
After filling up on breakfast and coffee we headed up to Mount Eden, where you can get a 360 degree view of the city of Auckland. It was a nice welcome to the city (minus the lady that told us to take all our valuables with us when we parked because there had recently been a break in right in the same spot we had pulled into). After a short but steep hike up the hill we got a great view of the city center!
Because we had some time to kill before checking into our apartment, we took a stroll around the harbor and looked at all the boats and buildings there were to see. The water just in the harbor was a crazy turquoise color.
We also walked through a Maritime History Museum that was conveniently located right next to our apartment. My dad is really into boats and sailing so we mainly did this for him but it was pretty cool to see and learn about the history and culture around sailing in New Zealand, especially since Auckland is known as the ‘city of sails.’
That night we really took advantage of the local cuisine and ate some American food at a pub (this was sarcasm, if you couldn’t tell, sometimes it doesn’t come across in typing). I had popcorn fried chicken and sweet potato fries. We headed back to the apartment and got an early bedtime since we were all pretty tired from the traveling we’d been doing for the past day.
DAY 2 - Snorkeling and A Stubbed Toe
An hour and a half north of Auckland is one of the most beautiful stretches of beaches you may ever encounter. We stopped at a small dive shop and bought ourselves some snorkel masks to take with us further up the coast. The lady who worked there gave us a labeled map of the best places to snorkel and sent us off on our merry way. The place we initially went to snorkel was fun, but I didn’t get too lucky and only saw around 15 fish, but the ones I did see were big and swimming up pretty close to us! I was a little worried that I would have to get in a confrontation with one of them when his little beady eyes stared right at me.
After our dip in the water we drove out to another potential snorkel spot, but the waves were too rough and we moved on to drive through a bird sanctuary that led to another breathtaking beach.
We spent a while here, laying under the shade of a large tree, enjoying the sounds of the waves crashing against the shore and the loud cries of the locusts all around us. A trail behind our resting spot lead up to an incredible vista point where you could see the beach from above. It was truly paradise.
...It was truly paradise until I stubbed my toe on the way back from the beach on a seemingly harmless log in the sand. At first I thought nothing of it but then I thought “Hm, that really hurt more than usual…” so I looked down to see a solid chunk of my big toe just hanging on by a thread and blood starting to ooze out of the wound. What better place to cut open your toe than on a beach where all the minuscule grains of sand can embed themselves into your injury? Am I right?? I hobbled back to the car and we rinsed off my toe with some of our drinking water and threw a band aid on it for the time being until we made it back to our apartment in Auckland. I knew I wouldn’t be able to get through this vacation without a myriad of challenges being hurled at me, but I wasn’t going to let my little crippled toe have an impact on my vacation experience, at least for the most part.

Getting into the Silver Spirit: Cruising through Aegean history
Bathrooms have come a great distance since 300BC.
At Philippi, in northern Greece, there is a well-preserved communal latrine with carved marble seats the place the holes are disconcertingly shut to one another: cosily buttock-adjacent, in reality.
At foot stage is a channel the place water flowed constantly, enabling the doubtless 40-plus patrons to sit down and chat in unpolluted consolation.
There’s marble too within the rest room of my stylish suite again on board Silversea’s Silver Spirit, however I am not sharing it with anybody. There are many different areas for being sociable on this elegant and lately refurbished ship – half-a-dozen lounges, eight eating places, pool deck, theatre – and simply 600 different friends to mingle with, so there’s loads of elbow room.
Silversea Cruises
Silversea’s Silver Spirit has lately been refurbished.
READ MORE: * I’ve turn out to be fairly cruise ship curious – here is what’s modified my thoughts * Uncommon entry: Expedition cruises get you nearer to wildlife * The way forward for cruising: What you’ll be able to anticipate to see within the subsequent decade
Pamela Wade
Istanbul’s skyline makes for a shocking backdrop as we sail away.
Most of them are a lot better ready than I’m for this cruise across the Aegean and jap Mediterranean: eight days, from Istanbul to Piraeus, the port for Athens, visiting a choice of Greek and Turkish ports and islands. My classical schooling consists of imprecise and really distant reminiscences of translating Latin accounts of centurions guarding the bags, however my companions appear to have finished their homework on historic structure, biblical connections and movers and shakers like Alexander the Nice.
While you’re coping with effectively over two millennia of vigorous historical past, it is lots to get your head round on the spot; however our guides work laborious to make it accessible, even for the extra grasshopper-minded of us who’re fortunately diverted by pleasant canines accompanying us by way of the ruins, by the brilliant colors and glossy 24-carat gold of the work inside chapels (additionally by the rivetingly grotesque topics of a few of them), and by random QI-type trivia, comparable to that Alexander wasn’t actually that Nice, being solely about 5 ft excessive.
Pamela Wade
The Ephesus library is eye-popping.
It is not all historic historical past, by any means, particularly after we get to the celebration island of Mykonos. After we sailed away from Istanbul, that metropolis’s fabulous skyline of mosques, domes and towers was silhouetted towards an ideal sundown; however since then the October climate has been gray and damp – although not uninteresting sufficient to mute the glamorous deep, clear blue of the Aegean Sea.
Lastly, right here at Mykonos the solar comes out once more, and the impact is dazzling. White-painted buildings sit like crusted snow on the island’s rocky slopes, their clever blue highlights making them irresistibly photogenic, particularly when set off by purple bougainvillea. Winding slim lanes lead up and down, previous little outlets and bars, chapels and homes, and finally ship guests to the well-known 5 windmills sitting above the harbour, foregrounded by poseur cats.
Pamela Wade
The windmills of Mykonos are deservedly Instagram-famous.
There isn’t any escaping the historical past although, and our subsequent port of name, the island of Rhodes, is dripping with it. At Lindos, there’s an acropolis of fluted columns excessive on a hilltop overlooking a sheltered cove the place St Paul first preached; and even the lovable donkeys down within the city have a back-story, being descendants of animals donated to the locals by the Individuals, who had damaged up all their roads throughout WWII. On the city of Rhodes, the place the ship is moored, there are battlements, domes, cobbled streets, stone stairways and, within the grassy moat past the town wall, neat pyramids of cannonballs. In a single avenue, there’s additionally, mysteriously, a memento store promoting authentic-looking boomerangs carved from olive wooden.
Marmaris, the subsequent island, returns us to Turkey, a nation simply as historic and definitely as filled with tales. All of us hope that the one concerning the 2000 year-old airplane tree in Bayir is true, as we dutifully stroll round it thrice, anti-clockwise, to be able to guarantee a protracted and fortunate life. Afterwards, sitting in its shade on a heat, sunny day, consuming tea from a tulip-shaped glass, with nothing extra demanding forward of me than a bus-ride by way of fairly surroundings again to being pampered on Silver Spirit, I really feel the magic is working already.
Pamela Wade
Life is leisurely on the Mykonos waterfront.
Life on board just isn’t completely optimistic, nevertheless, regardless of the pleasant ministrations of my butler, the proffered elbows of waiters main me again to my desk (even from the breakfast buffet) and the aid of just about every thing, from wi-fi to ideas, being included. There may be additionally the barely-concealed viciousness of the day by day Trivial Pursuit competitors, which turns into solely extra cut-throat because the cruise progresses.
The preliminary veneer of politeness quickly evaporates, errors are remembered and referred to, there are raised eyebrows and scepticism as solutions are steered. And that is inside the workforce: between groups, no holds are barred. “Let’s take their seats tomorrow – and mess with their heads,” schemes Sheila, eyes narrowed on the highest-scorers. Alternatively, my delight at scoring double factors by understanding what a philtrum is lastly trounces the disgrace of by no means having heard of Philip II of Macedon earlier than this cruise.
Pamela Wade
The Aegean is especially luminous in Patmos Harbour.
Extra well-known names I used to be conscious of, although – so it was fairly particular to go to St John’s cave at Patmos and the Home of the Virgin Mary – and to stroll on the exact same shiny marble pavers that Cleopatra and Mark Antony had trodden on their honeymoon. This was at Ephesus, one in all Turkey’s many glories, its time-worn stonework softened by plenty well-fed stray cats sprawled over it. Right here, the world’s largest and most difficult jigsaw puzzle is beneath manner, with hundreds of items of swirled marble, shattered by an earthquake centuries in the past, being painstakingly fitted again collectively.
The towering façade of the previous library, additionally a reconstruction, is really a spectacle; and so is the immense theatre, its curves rising up the hillside offering seats for an viewers of 25,000. It was impressively large considering for 300BC – however even right here there isn’t any escaping the period’s sociable perspective to bogs. Simply as in Philippi, there are rows of cushty marble seating, with added details about wealthy Ephesians sending slaves forward of them to pre-warm the stone. That’s form of fascinating – however the bit about sponges on sticks? Effectively, generally, ignorance actually is bliss.
Pamela Wade
Cannon balls are neatly piled within the moat exterior the Rhodes metropolis wall.

New Zealand observations
‘Travel broadens the mind.’ It’s true, you meet different people, taste different food and drink, experience unusual smells and sounds. The streets, buildings, shops, vehicles, vegetation, weather and quality of light are all likely to vary from your ‘home turf’.
The photo above was taken in Auckland (565 Karangahape Rd, Ponsonby. 19-Mar-2017). Some things are the same - Subway and Mobil brands but others are different - palm trees, cheaper petrol and much cheaper diesel than in UK (£1 = $NZ 1.75 approx).
On a visit to Australia in 1986 I remember noticing the covered pavements of shopping streets, to protect against the sun, and so to see the same thing in Auckland (Symonds Street, 18-Mar-2017), on the bus from the airport, was not a surprise to me but might be for someone on a first visit. Auckland retains plenty of characterful, older, buildings in its, often sloping, shopping streets. The street signs on posts are more like signs seen in North America where street signs are designed to be seen by car drivers rather than pedestrians, as in the UK.
The photo above shows the upper reaches of Queen Street, Auckland’s main street (18-Mar-2017) with some corrugated iron covers for the pavement providing some shade.
Auckland is known as the ‘City of Sails and Kiwis enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities including mountain bike riding and surfing.
While I was wandering around the Eden Terrace district of Auckland, it was fun to discover that there was a surfboard business on Newton Road! Later, at the Brewers Co-operative craft beer bar in Victoria Street, I noticed that the TV was showing a triathlon event.
Bars in New Zealand may have a blackboard outside listing sporting events being screened inside. These events can be from all over the world to cater for locals and visitors interests.
Work in progress - to be continued!

Last days in New Zealand
For our last hike on the South Island we walked the first portion of the Abel Tasman Coast Track, another of the Great Walks of New Zealand. There were many beautiful beaches and the water was a stunning shade of blue. The next day we drove to Picton and set sail for Wellington and the North Island. We didn't spend a lot of time in Wellington, but we enjoyed the Te Papa museum, stayed at a very pleasant suburban airbnb, and had lunch the next day at the Harbourside Market. A few hours of driving brought us to National Park village just outside Tongariro National Park. The Tongariro Alpine Crossing was our goal for the next day. It is one of the most beautiful and most popular day hikes in New Zealand. It is about 20km long with 900m of vertical and passes underneath Mt Ngauruhoe, otherwise known as Mt. Doom. It is an active volcanic area whose most recent eruption was in 2012. Although the weather report didn't look completely promising, we ended up with an amazing day. The trail was crowded but we were glad we did it. From there we went to Taupo, stopping at Huka falls on the way. Huka falls shoots through a gorge, dumping enough water to fill five Olympic-size pools every minute. That evening, we also checked out the local park where there are free thermal pools at the edge of the river. From Taupo, we drove to the location where the scenes of Hobbiton from the Lord of the Rings were filmed. There, we toured the very adorable film set, appreciating the attention to detail including clothes lines strung with Hobbit clothes and real vegetable gardens. That evening, we drove north to Waihi Beach. Our plan was to drive the next day around the Coromandel Peninsula. However, there was rain all evening with over 50 mm falling where we were and as much as 400 mm in other areas. The news called it a "once in a hundred years rain" and roads around the peninsula were closed. We instead opted to head to Auckland for a quiet afternoon. For our final day in Auckland, we wandered the city, enjoying fish and chips at the fish market. We returned our rental car after driving 3900 km in total. We are now headed to Osaka, Japan via Australia and Malaysia for our final country before going home.
