Pros and cons of this year's cgi cinematic

Cons:

Same characters reused for the fifth time

Missed opportunity to put valkyrie , frost, maestro, kapkan, echo and or azami when it would've made sense*

Sam Fisher despite being like 70 years old and can choke out oryx who is several weight classes above him in seconds, struggles against demos.

No rook face reveal.

Only 4 ops in a squad.

Relatively short compared to previous ones.

Pros:

We see Sam in action

Rook is now in a cgi cinematic with a speaking role.

Armor is actually usefull and doesn't follow the trope of just being cardboard.

This year's CGI actually surpassed my expectations. It furthered the current plot, didn't massively retcon previous lore of any of our characters (*side eyes the "Sisters in Arms" one, god how I detest what that one did to the Bosaks' lore), and the action was sweet!

As for the lack of much character variety... yeah, nothing new here, I stopped expecting that a long time ago. But hey, Rook has some protagonism! I'd say that's already a vast improvement from the usual, and Zero was usually relegated to a side character while Harry was still alive and here he was a main action figure!

Also the Rook face reveal, we already got that one with his elite years ago 🤷 And he has a headgear showing his whole face and head in the battlepass, so you can't really say we don't know how he looks like 😂

I once saw a post commenting that fandoms tend, in general, to spawn fanworks containing what is lacking in the source material. So a childish series will have a darker and grittier fics than one would think at first glance, depressing pieces of media will be full of fix-it fics and stories with happy endings, etc.

And I think that has quite a bit of truth in it, yeah.

That being said, using TF2 in that first image, given how whacky the franchise looks to me as a bystander, I wouldn't be surprised if the unicorns and such had actually been part of some event, sort of an LSD dream lmao

Thermite, Hibana, Kapkan and Fuze as fire magic users: Yes! Tachanka tho, I do remember mostly old Tachanka, and his Extraction version, so to me he's more about his LMG than the whatever it's called grenade launcher they gave him. So eh, personal preference difference here.

Smoke poison, for sure, same as Twitch and IQ with electricity. Thatcher... I guess? I don't know how I'd put his EMP gadget in magic form. Tbh, I would probably turn it into anti-magic abilties: he can negate any other magic/some types of magic.

I think Zofia, Ela and Echo all should be the same type, whether that's sonic or air, doesn't matter. But their gadgets are all about concussing/disorienting enemies.

Capitao being a fire magic user felt confusing, again, cause of memory of his old bolts being poison iirc? But mostly cause that's what he has in Extraction, and it's the only game where I played him. So in order to encompass all that, I'd make him able to manipulate air: add or remove oxygen to make things burst into fire or the air unbreathable/toxic, alter the composition of particles in suspension to make the smoke clouds too.

Now, for the ones I categorically disagree with, sorry:

I am extremely confused about Finka having plant magic, and Lion healing magic? Finka and Doc would have healing, obviously. And Lion, idk, maybe air or sonic too, in order to detect people moving, but he definitely doesn't heal.

Frost having ice magic fits her name but not her actual ability, which is how everyone else got their magic type?

Also, Monty would be a non-magic user. Having a big shield doesn't sound very magical to me, in my eyes he'd be your average knight.

Don't get me wrong, I love this ask and I love discussing things, so this is not a take down of your ideas, quite the contrary: I'm so engaged with it I can't help laying down my take for this!

Well ash finally woke up

Real talk tho, that is a very good indicative to me that the timeline doesn't follow 1:1 the times of release, aka, it didn't really take Ash a year to wake up. Cause uhh, "a coma rarely lasts over a month. Instead, individuals who remain unconscious for prolonged periods typically progress to a wakeful but unconscious state called post-coma unresponsiveness".

Yes, there are cases where people wake up after years and years in a coma, but those are odd cases and not a general rule of thumb. Not to mention Ash look very perky/alert and fit for work while still having some fresh injuries that required bandages/bandaids. So, she didn't spend too much time in a come then 🤔

I mean, most of them are just common sense and courtesy tbh. And asking people their weight or dead name is rude as hell. I gather the same with politics in a multicultural organization like Rainbow, they probably have a "no politics discussions" rule to keep things smoother.

Ubisoft: hmmm yeah no um actually the Canadians and Spetsnaz hate each other, Ash and thermite only see each other as siblings as well as Hibana and Cav is already in a relationship with an off screen character were only gonna mention once in a battle pass item.

I'll be honest, I don't think any of those ships you mention is good, except for Twitch/Cav (and Sledge/Gridlock, sort of) 😅

Canadians and Spetsnaz disliking each other, due to their wildly different approaches in the field is actually realistic and kind of a forgone conclusion for some people before Ubi ever added that bit in Harry's original board. Yeah, they're not gonna be besties. In fact, the only one spetsanz who was shown in concept art interacting with Frost was Glaz, and it was related to both speaking Chinese.

And Ash and Thermite escaping the "main gal and main dude" syndrome of being considered romantic interests and having instead a sibling relationship was a breath of fresh air to me, tbh.

None of those ships has any base for becoming canon, except, again for Twitch/Cav (but that was in a different game and ofc ubi ignored it in Siege). In fact, if there's one (1) ship I was surprised they didn't go for is Thermite/Hibana. They knew each other from before Rainbow, she has voicelines referencing him, he was in that easter egg image that was supposedly a hint for Pulse/Hibana. If they made Thermite/Hibana happen instead, it wouldn't have felt as out of the blue as Pulse/Hibana. And this is the only time you'll catch me defending a het ship 😂
