SFP6 - Blocking Scenes
In our practical session tomorrow, we must have blocked a specific scene and have a practice run-through shoot in the TV studio. To help me with blocking scenes, I looked at Peter Marshall’s article on The 5 Stages of Blocking a Scene (2015). He discusses how ‘Blocking a scene is simply working out the details of an actor’s moves in relation to the camera. You can also think of blocking as the choreography of a dance or a ballet: all the elements on the set (actors, extras, vehicles, crew, equipment) should move in perfect harmony with each other.’ (no pagination, 2015)
He also argues that ‘Where the camera is placed is determined primarily by what is important in the scene’. (no pagination, 2015)
I used this advice to block Scene 4 -
Important to remember rule of thirds in interview scenes! (The person in frame must be either mainly on the right or left third of the screen.)
We are waiting to hear back from Wire club as to whether we can actually film there, so I may have to adapt this to a different location.
