Tav Companion Ask

3. Does your Tav have any comments or advice when you recruit other companions?

Astarion: “For Astarion to so brazenly attack you out in the open suggests he has exceptional combat skills or he is an utter fool. I am inclined towards the latter.”  Lae’Zel: “The Githyanki will be a valuable asset to our party. We need only to point her in the right direction and yell ‘Charge!’. Gale: “A wizard isn’t my first choice for a traveling companion. Either due to their arrogance or sheer incompetence, they tend to blow themselves and others around them up.”

7. What can they be found doing at the tiefling/goblin party?

Tiefling Party:

Tav’Lyn will be in high spirits. She will proclaim that it has been nearly half a century since her last goblin massacre and she’s forgotten how fun it can be. If you betrayed Minthara, she will commend your cunning and boast about humbling a Baenre. 

She will have a more somber moment where she reflects that it could have been her instead of Minthara on the other side of the battlefield and that you did a good thing protecting the refugees.

She will ask if to spend the night with the MC if you have high enough approval but not push if rejected. She can potentially spend the night with another companion. 

Goblin Party:

Tav’Lyn will be more arrogant and aloof in her interactions with you. She will matter-of-factly compliment the player on their deception with Zevlor and the efficiency of the slaughter. 

You can ask her why she isn’t mingling at the party, to which she will respond in disdain that she is above associating with goblin filth.

Tav’Lyn will be much more forward in asking you to spend the night with her. If you reject her for Astarion or Lae’zel, she will try to sway you, tempting you with the known fantasy & reputation of Drow women. If you reject her for Minthara, she will become outright hostile and mockingly tell you to enjoy yourself and that she hopes you don’t end up with a knife in your back. She will not spend the night with any other companions.

10. Will they join in with the PC and the Drow Twins, or no?

Yes, and she will join in with any other companions except for Halsin [I’m going to HC that as another companion through banter, she will pick up on what happened to him in the Underdark]. She will also show everyone real Menzobarranzen Love Magic. 🤣

23. What is your Tav’s favorite moment they’ve had with their lover?

Watching the sunrise one morning in Baldur’s Gate with Astarion after killing Cazador. It’s a quiet, intimate moment and a brief respite from the chaos. They both know that one way or another, these moments in the sun, pain-free, will eventually come to an end. At least they are free and have each other. 

40.  What is the biggest mistake your Tav ever made?

Interesting question.

I’m not sure Tav’Lyn has a “big mistake”. Drow who make those types of mistakes tend to end up dead or worse. Rather, I see her as someone whose life has been an accumulation of small mistakes made over the centuries that have shaped her into who she is today. Acts of disobedience, fits of rage, impulsive decisions, etc. These inevitably led to punishment and conditioning.

If I had to choose one, I would say that she constantly questions if she’s been foolish in trusting the Eilistraeeen priestesses and choosing to live on the surface. Was it the right decision to forsake Lolth’s “love”? There is a twinge of doubt that occasionally creeps into her thoughts. Life would be easier in the Underdark and Menzobarranzen. Familiar. 

46. What role would your Tav play in a highschool AU? (nerd, jock, bully, goth, etc)

Oh man, if we use adolescent Tav’Lyn then she would be part of the group of rich kids who bully people. She wouldn’t be the ringleader/instigator. I could see her being the “nice one” of the group who could occasionally get along with other people/groups but she’s still a bitch.

the reason why godhood is gale's "bad end" is because it continues a cycle of abuse and hubris. "we can be the gods but with the heart of mortals," gale says, and it's ironic because mystra in her current incarnation began as a mortal girl. she was a nobody! she was only a countryside peasant with a natural knack for magic, almost exactly like gale - don't you think she, too, thought the same? that as a divinity, she would be better, do better?

godhood removes you from understanding mortals because that's the only way to continue surviving as a god. you are no longer who you once were; everything you are and were is erased by the mantle you must bear. it's very similar to how, once astarion becomes the vampire ascendant, his entire personality changes

gale dethroning mystra and seizing her power would only be a continuation of a folly that began since the world's birth.
