Denise L Reed pledged #AKA in #1980 in the #LambdaBeta Chapter #TowsonStateUniversity. That was 72 years after the sorority was founded. She couldn't have imagined what happened shortly after she went over. About a month after my Dec. 5, 1980 initiation, I was home in #WashingtonDC for #Christmas break and my (paternal) great-uncle, who was in his late 60s at the time, said to me, 'I heard you joined that ‘little’ group that Miss Boyd belongs to.' Then, my maternal grandmother, who was 69, chimed in, 'Yeah, she was my math teacher too. Remember Reed had just gotten off line, after being drilled for months about the history of #AlphaKappaAlpha. 'So I  said, 'Miss Boyd? Do you mean #NormaBoyd? YOU KNOW NORMA BOYD?' Needless to say, I was floored! My uncle said, 'Yeah, she was our teacher, she lives up on Webster Street, I’ll take you up to meet her one day while you are home.' So, true to his word, he took me to meet her and we made the photo and she gave me a signed copy of her book,: “#ALoveThatEqualsMyLabors. ”#NormaElizabethBoyd was one of the '#SevenSophomores,' who helped form #AKA1908. When she died in 1985, she was the organization's last surviving #Founder.
