I was sick for like half of this week which probably explains why this list is so long? Unfortunately didn’t write much, bc a lot of what i’m doing is behind the scenes stuff with no visible results rn (working on my shitbang fic, working on a few things that I haven’t finished yet). What I Read This Week (7/9-7/16)

I Don’t Know ‘Bout Me but I Know About You - ouroboros - @ouroborosbites - Set at the GPF a year-ish pre-canon. JJ, having a sexuality crisis, propositions Victor, who, having not found his direction through Yuuri yet, is enough of a mess to accept. (My review: JJ/Viktor? And I enjoyed it? No, seriously, surprisingly good!!)

Let Me Sail Across the Sea for there is Never One Who Loved You More Than Me - tothebatcave53 - @tothebatcave53 - Victor has always loved the ocean, he is drawn to it's beauty and it's power. He sets out, a simple day in a simple boat with a simple desire to just exist in peace out in the ocean. When Victor wakes it is to the turmoil of the waves, desperate to sink him and his tiny boat into it's murky depths. It is only the most beautiful hallucination that keeps Victor sane in what he assumes are his last moments. (My review: AHHHH guys i always need mermaid aus i’m fricken screaming this one is so a+ everyone read it)

He's been Seung-gil's dirty little secret for well over a year. (My review: O H MY GOD so that art of seunggil and yuuri being friends is one of my favorites so i’m ??? so glad someone acted on it)

black box (Ch. 1) - SKnight - @sephknight - The entire world is thrown into madness when all the best actors team up for a new TV show about... skating? Doesn't matter, all the fans know is that this means roughly 273.15% more ice cube jokes, the potential resurrection of some dead memes, and 9999% more Victuuri to scream about and die from. The fans have been thirsty for more Katsuki-Nikiforov co-starred content since 2011, and this oncoming show about ice could just be the thing to quench that thirst. ...Oh god, the bad jokes are already starting. (My review: look we all know i have a Thing for fics with fake social media and this one is ALL fake social media so i’m pumped to see more)

third time lucky - katsukiy - @yuriplisetsk - This year, for Tanabata, Viktor decided to wish for something a little different. (My review: not even double but Triple yuuri!!! oh god we all know here that i have a Thing for multiples, but this is so good)

Dinner For Two - Yuripaws - @yuripaws - Viktor dreams of two delicious bowls of katsudon only to find that he isn't invited to dinner. But he is invited to the show. (My review: MORE. DOUBLE. YUURI. guys i’ll never be sick of this trope and this one is so a+ with our desperate viktor mmm yes)

love’s not a competition (but i’m winning) (Ch. 1) - LittleLostStar, spookyfoot - @iwritevictuuri, @katsukiyuuristrophyhusband - Victor Nikiforov is the leader of the best burlesque revue in the city, and well on his way to achieving his dream goal of a Upper-Level Lesser Kardashian-level stardom, complete with his own reality TV show. So when rival burlesque dancer Yuuri Katsuki scoops Victor's theme night and refuses to back down (or fire those hips that will not quit), it doesn't take long before war is declared—a tense and glittery battle featuring anarchic stagehands, orange light gels, fake eyelashes...and some occasional hate-sex that may not be hate-sex at all. (My review: give me more glitter or give me death! you can expect nothing else from spooky and star than just the absolute best and that’s this.)

This...probably isn't what you wanted. (My review: ahh such a cool au!! i love the take on the prompt they had and it was so well written :))

Partner, Let Me Upgrade You (Series - Parts 1-4, Ch. 1-6 (Part 1), Ch. 1-2 (Part 3) - cuttlemefish - @cuttlemefishwrites - Z’s Popstar AU (My review: z, i was going to rec all of these individually but then my rec list would hvae gone on for like 50 years. but asfkl; i finally got around to reading it and i’m dying for my Extra sons)

Baby, I’m Preying on You Tonight (Ch. 8) - cuttlemefish - @cuttlemefishwrites - Yuuri and Phichit registered and named the pet shop when they were drunk. They didn’t exactly expect it to become the most popular pet shop in Seattle. (It was only supposed to be a front to fund Phichit’s (undercover) animal rescue missions.) Enter Viktor Nikiforov, the man with the pink Cadillac and the giant brown poodle (that's stolen Yuuri's heart), and Yuuri might have lost his mind, because apparently he keeps flirting with a client – and he never even notices. (My review: the jjs will never cease to slay me. viktor and chris especially cute in this chapter)

patellofemoral pain syndrome (Ch. 3) - seventhstar - @pencilwalla - It’s just…does Viktor not get bored with doing it the same way every night? Doesn’t he want to spice things up? Is Yuuri being unreasonable? He’s pretty sure that if Viktor told him his performance in bed was unsatisfying his soul would flee his body for a more merciful plane of existence, but…Viktor is thicker-skinned than he is. And so here they are. Viktor’s bed is wide and soft, and Yuuri is lying there with wet hair and ratty boxers while Viktor absently trails kisses over his shoulder. It’s nice. It’s soft. It’s good. Viktor’s headboard is enormous and Yuuri keeps thinking about Viktor’s wrists bound to it, black rope over white skin. Fuck. He should say something. (My review: mmm arthritis porn except nuri didn’t give me porn this chapter)

After all, a figure skater’s greatest commodity is often their feet, taking the brunt of the damage required to hone their craft. He knows whatever tender loving care he gives now isn't enough to erase years of self-inflicted abuse, not in a single session. But it doesn't mean he's not going to at least try.So, Viktor starts with the feet. But the thing is, he rarely gets much further than that. (My review: FOOT FETISH i hate feet and this story was still a+)

(Or: A friendship told through three hamsters, a rice cooker, and the resurrected trade-and-barter system.) (My review: i think i laughed like 3/4 of this story it’s just,,, so in character for them and ridiculous)

Colored Pencils and Markers - RainyTea - @rainyteawrites - Viktor finds Yuuri’s poster collection, but there’s another surprise in there too. (My review: yuuri’s poster collection with a twist ;) ;) loved it)

Meet Your Idol! - RoseusJaeger - @roseus-jaeger - Ryuugazaki Rei has been a fan of Katsuki Yuuri since he was in grade school, admiring his beauty and grace on the ice. It's Katsuki's last season on the ice before his marriage to Victor Nikiforov and Rei would do anything for an autograph before his official retirement... or at least he thought until his boyfriend, Nagisa Hazuki, actually plots to get him an autograph at the NHK Cup. (My review: what you probably sort of know about me is that i love free! so this was a great read and roseus did so well with all of the character and i loved it)

Or, welcome to the story in which Viktor discovers his boyfriend Yuuri is a high-class escort who takes on different identities and lives for different clients, including Viktor, who thought he was saving a stripper by putting a ring on his finger. (My review: i hvae read like maybe 1 escort au in this fandom bc i’m always very,,, eh about it but i’ll try anything z does nad it’s??? so good)

Katsuki’s Pet Needs (Ch. 1) - nerdlife4eva - @n3rdlif343va - Yuuri Katsuki owns a small pet store in a little town on the coast. He loves running his own business, and especially loves Sundays when his best friend, Phichit, runs adoption events for his animal rescue organization in his store. Victor Nikiforov has always wanted a dog, excitedly attending the scheduled pet adoption hoping to find his first furever friend. Another universe where these two find each other, this time with a little help from the brown fluff of Makkachin herself. (My review: THIS IS VERY PRECIOUS. if you want shameless fluff, read this!!)

Hunter of Eros (Ch. 4-5) - LalodyBear - @lalody - Lord Eros is perhaps the oldest of all living vampires and a legend among hunters. For thousands of years no-one has been able to slay him and stop his evil reign. Victor Nikiforov is the greatest hunter to have ever lived. ~ After seemingly endless sightings of newborn vampires appearing across Japan, Yakov's hunters are sent to put a stop to it. During a hunt, Victor Nikiforov has his first ever innocent witness to a slaying - Yuuri Katsuki, an utterly adorable local. After being cornered into staying with the group of Russian hunters, Yuuri just prays Victor doesn't find out his secret and slay him in his sleep. (My review: ahh it’s been so long since this updated, and i’m so glad i’m patient because i love this au so much. i don’t even care it took so long like ?? take that long always if you’re gonna give me quality content like that (which i’m sure you will))

(send me a pairing/title and I’ll give you a summary of a fic I’ll never write!)This one is the loosest Pride and Prejudice retelling ever. Phichit doesn’t find Seunggil intimidating. Seunggil doesn’t find Phichit charming. These two simple facts shake the two of them to their very core. It drives Phichit to new and increasingly more charming heights just to try to win Seunggil over. Just to drive the knife in, Seunggil responds to every one of Phichit’s jokes with a straight face and a flat, dead “That’s funny.”Phichit spends a lot of time at Four Continents facedown in the duvet in Yuuri and Victor’s hotel room. “I’m hilarious,” he keens.“You are!” Yuuri says, rubbing circles into Phichit’s back. Victor just kind of hovers to the side holding the bottle of champagne he was about to pop and surreptitiously trying to rebutton his shirt.(Seunggil does not have anyone to rant to, nor is that his way. But he does practice his most intimidating faces in the mirror and raise a quizzical eyebrow at his reflection.)They’re into each other, of course. But this is a P&P retelling, so there’s a disastrous love confession at Worlds in which Seunggil manages to insult both Phichit and the ‘company he keeps.’ Phichit tells him in no uncertain terms that being aloof and condescending doesn’t make him cool and mysterious, it makes him a dick.A long offseason passes, and when the Grand Prix Series assignments are announced, Phichit’s pretty relieved that he won’t see Seunggil for any of it. But as the season progresses, Phichit hears more and more stories from his friends. Seunggil finding Georgi’s young cousin when she gets lost at the NHK Trophy. Seunggil helping Chris block the IP addresses of some particularly persistent trolls. Seunggil noticing that Yuuri was an unholy mess at Rostelecom and showing him literal dozens of pictures of his dog. But the moment that seals it for Phichit is when he finds out, courtesy of Seunggil’s family at the GPF, that Seunggil has found him hilarious for months, it’s just that he’s one of those people who says “That’s funny” instead of actually laughing.Neither of them make the podium that year, but they do make out furiously under the stadium seating, so really, everyone’s a winner.

Things that people don’t know about Seunggil

Seunggil Week Day 2, Day 6: AU and Animal Kingdom

(Alternative: Things that I want to Seunggil to be in my spirit+gods+modern setting fusion au fic that I haven’t exactly started yet; he’s a side character btw)

1. He has a pet dog that he constantly rants to; whether it be about his day, skating or the nuisances in his life, his dog is the keeper of all secrets that is Seunggil.

2. He has a quarter spirit blood in him. This allows him to understand and communicate with every animal, and also plants. He also has healing abilities as well, though he’s only known to alleviate pain and cure bruises, but is uncertain if it also does its magic on major injuries or chronic diseases.

3. Despite his intimidating demeanor, Seunggil does smile around animals and plants the most. The presence of nature itself calms him. This explains the horticulture in his apartment (and sometimes, when no one is looking, he takes out a keychain of a pressed flower and he grasps it in his hand, as though in prayer and in luck).

4. People know crowds displease him, but are unaware of his abhorrence for city pollution.

5. His family is slightly strict, and only a few (including his immediate family) are well known to his spirit heritage. People rarely talk of such things, and are mostly regarded as merely myths and legends. Families like his make sure that it stays that way (because there are those who profit from kidnapping a hybrid, a spirit, or, if they’re lucky, a god; history is rich of those and is less apparent in the modern times).

6. While he doesn’t exactly go out to make friends, Seunggil is well acquainted with a god (Victor), a hybrid (Yuri P.), and a human (Phichit). He tolerates (loves) their presence.

7. For a privy person, he isn’t immune to gossip in the “Other” Realm. (”Have you heard? There’s a rumor that a demigod is in town. Goes by the name Altin?” “Really? Who’s the parent?” “No one knows. Demigods are rare.”)

8. Reluctantly, he admits that he’s Viktor’s ally and does his job in reporting local, and international, gossip (because spirits and gods are shameless and they talk. A lot. He’s a bartender, and has excellent hypersensitive hearing.)

8. favorite free skate

definitely yuri on ice!! i sobbed at the final performance of it lmfao

i also wish i could say pavane pour une infante défunte (“dance for a dead princess” in french) aka seunggil’s free skate but, whoops.. they never actually showed it in the anime. such a shame, really, it’s composed by maurice ravel and an absolutely LOVELY piece :(

i’ve never really thought about it to be honest, though i do have a bit of an idea (despite the fact that it slightly goes against canon). i’ve entertained the idea that vicchan developed cancer and it was best for him to be euthanized, though probably bc the same thing happened to one of my dogs when i was younger;;

27. were you a fan of figure skating before watching the show? (if not, have you become a fan now because of the show)

i wasn’t, actually. my father is, surprisingly, but more of a casual fan than anything else, and from what i’ve seen he only really watches the women compete. i had seen figure skating a couple times while watching the winter olympics, but it never really stuck out to me, you know?

i wouldn’t exactly call myself a fan now, bc i’m dumb as shit and still don’t really know how it works, but it’s definitely something i’m interested in!

✨ like, they don't always talk on the phone, but they Always Text each other and send each other things that remind them of one another

✨ leo gets a lot of animals or songs that guanghong thinks that he'll enjoy

✨ leo's also gotten a picture of an otter which guanghong screaming about how leo!!! is!!! an!!! otter!!! he loves it. he now identifies firmly with otters.

✨ guanghong gets a lot of flowers and pictures of soft things leo sees in his day to day life or while browsing the internet

✨ they've binge watched princess tutu seven times

✨ they honestly can't explain why but guanghong does an e x c e l l e n t princess tutu impersonation

✨ they're both the kind of people who are shopping for themselves but will pick up something for their partners while they're out

✨ more than once leo has found himself in a mall trying to buy something for himself and coming out with twice as many bags which have things for all his friends but mostly guanghong

✨ there's a group chat ( of course there is, when isn't there a messy group chat? ) with phichit, leo, guanghong, seunggil, and yuuri – seunggil is only in it for pictures of cute animals and potential blackmail material

✨the group chat was moving super fast and leo was doing his absolute best to keep up and was getting yelled at by his coach when he texts "guys leave guapo alone!!"

✨ now, there are a variety of reasons his phone corrects guanghong to g u a p o, and most of them are narrowed down to leo excitedly talking to his mother in spanish and not changing his phone's keyboard back to english

✨ another reason for this is leo likes calling guanghong guapo because his partner is handsome and he loves to tell them and everyone that

✨ so leo leaves his phone off to the side while he goes through his step sequence and when he comes back it's like the group chat has EXPLODED

✨ phichit is screaming uncontrollably, yuuri is tired but amused, seunggil is Exhuasted but also the only person in the chat who has enough sense to bust our google translate

✨ "guapo means handsome. i hope he's talking to you, guanghong"

✨ guanghong is pleased!!! their boyfriend thinks they're handsome!!! ( of course he does, but it's still very sweet )

✨ that was a whole year and a half ago.

✨ stitch is a much shorter story that tldr's into guanghong is really enthusiastic about lilo & stitch as a movie and also loves to get their friends together whenever they're all in the same place for competitions because they're family!!! they have to support each other!!!

✨ one time leo and phichit banded together to buy guanghong a giant stitch plushie from the disney store in new york city and leo had to hold guanghong for an hour while they sniffled out their feelings

✨ they have matching stitch onesies!!

✨ they also have matching soft instagram aesthetics

✨ guanghong is better at keeping their instagram color schemes in fact and posts a lot of cute pictures of the things they buy and see on the streets and does regular hauls of the things leo sends them

✨ leo keeps themes better than color schemes and more often than not his themes are "look at how beautiful my partner is please love them as much as i love them"

✨ guanghong will facetime leo while they're in the shower, and it's never for anything sexy it's because they're lonely and it's like four am and they want his attention

✨ leo often falls asleep to guanghong singing disney songs while they're in the shower

✨ guanghong whispers i love yous until leo starts to wake up again and has to cover their mouth to keep from squeaking because leo is!!! so cute!!!! when he wakes up!!!!

✨ sometimes they stay up until outrageous hours talking about their future together then they retire and guanghong insists that they're going to be like yuuri and viktor and have romantic corresponding programs and themes and then retire together to be coaches

✨ leo agrees that it sounds nice but raises guanghong the idea of being c h i l l and maybe having one extra exhibition skate for each other and retiring with big dogs and cats and maybe several bunnies and also being coaches
