Chapter One: Meeting Yugi and the Gang [Seto Kaiba]
"Ashy-boo!" Rosalie, or Rose, cooed. Gently shaking her brother awake. "It's time for school."
"Five more minutes, sis," Ashworth, or Ash, mumbled. Burying his head further into the pillow.
"Get up now or I WILL use the ice water," she said. Then pushed him out of the futon with a tiny giggle.
He landed with a soft 'thud' on the floor. As quickly as he fell, he got right back up.
"What was that for, Rose?!" He yelled. Clearly he was extremely annoyed. A natural reaction from him.
She gave him the most innocent smile. Time was good to her. Her baby fat was gone, not a pimple in sight, and she had her own confidence. She wore her own style and never cared about what people say about her.
"I did nothing of that sort," she responded, fighting hard to keep the smirk off her face.
"You pushed me out of our bed!" He yelled, sulking slightly.
"It was the only way to keep our bed from getting wet," she pointed out before going into the kitchen to make breakfast. "Omelets, bacon, and sausage sound good?" She asked him from the kitchen.
"Alright!" He said, going for the bathroom. "Green peppers, onions, and bacon in my omelet, please?"
She did his request without a word of protest.
When he got out of the shower, and she was done cooking breakfast, she set his paper plate and plastic fork at his spot on the dining room table.
"Bon appetit!" She told , when he came into the dining room.
He was wearing his school uniform. Which was a red shirt and pants. His collar was buttoned up all the way, like it's supposed to be. And his collar is white.
"You look so cute!" She gushed, walking over to him. Then gave him a big hug.
His face looked like his uniform. "Sh-shut up," he mumbled, wiggling out of her arms.
"Eat your breakfast while I change into my uniform," she instructed, heading for the bathroom. For she had already ate.
He began to eat his omelet and drink his orange juice. After he was done, he threw his trash in the garbage.
One she was done changing, she scowled at her reflection.
Eventually she left the bathroom, grabbing her backpack on the way. She has to wear a big pink bow on her neck, a pink blouse, and a blue skirt. A SHORT skirt, too.
"Ready, bro?" She asked, grabbing her house keys. There was only one key and she only lets him have them when he's planning on coming home late.
"Yep" was his reply, doing the same. Except minus picking up the key.
She took his hand, kissing his forehead, in a motherly way, and left the apartment, with him in tow. Looking the door before they headed out. For their new schools, Domino Middle (Ash) and High (Rose).
After dropping her brother off, she began to walk down the street.
A block away, she thought, giggling. Totally loving the school!
"Hey!" cried a young man's voice behind. He sounded like he's from Brooklyn, New York.
She turned around to face a shaggy, dirty blond-haired boy. Whom had hazel eyes, as well.
"You new?" He asked, grinning at her. "Domino High?"
"I am, actually," she said, still curious.
"I'm Joey," he said, a bit flirtatiously. "Joey Wheeler."
She smiled, ignoring the come ons, and held out her hand for him. "I am Rosalie," she answered, giggling. "Most people call me Rose, though."
Joey took her hand and kissed her knuckled. "Pleased to meet ya."
She rolled her eyes, walking next to him. "What's the school like?" She asked.
"Annoyin' staff membas and classmates," he responded, laughing at the end. "But my friends aren't annoyin'. Moneybags thinks othawise."
"Who's 'moneybags'?" She asked, unfamiliar with the term.
"Seto Kaiba," he answered, looking up. Spotting a black tinted limo outside the school gates, he began to snarl. "Speak of da devil..."
She looked confused but, nonetheless, watched the driver open up the back door.
Out came a brunet haired boy. She couldn't see what he looked like.
Until he turned in their direction, icy blue eyes on Joey.
He's gorgeous. She thought, her breath escaping her lungs. But why is he angry?
"I see you finally found a bitch (A/N: He meant a female dog)," the brunet said, smirking.
"I'm not a damn mutt," Joey said, while Rose responded "I'm not anyone's bitch!"
After she said that, she walked up to the brunet and punched him in the jaw. Using as much force as she can.
"What you get for calling an innocent girl a bitch," she remarked, smirking.
The brunet was on the ground, trying to recover from the shock. He was holding his jaw, looking up at the new girl.
She shot him a cold glare, flipping her hair over her shoulder while she walked through the gate.
Joey was smirking at Seto. "She's amazing!" He cried, raising his hands in the air. Then followed her.
Rose had a big smirk on her face when Joey finally caught up with her.
"That was AWESOME!" He cried again, looking at her with bright, excited eyes.
"He deserved it," she said. "He had no right to call me a 'bitch.' When I did nothing to that motherfucker."
Seto was still on the ground, in complete shock. "I can't believe that she did that," he whispered. "That peasant punched me..."
Then the bell rang. He quickly stood up and ran to his home room.
Rose was sitting next to Seto's seat, staring out the window.
When Seto was nearing the room, he slowed down and fixed his uniform. He collected himself before opening the door.
"Glad you could make it, Mr. Kaiba," Mr. Watts said, marking him tardy on the seating chart.
When the brunet passed by the substitute, he handed the student a detention slip.
"So, class," Mr. Watts said, looking at the seating chart. "We have a new student today. Ms. Watson?" His hand was pointed in Rose's direction. "Please come up and introduce yourself."
Rose, ignoring Seto's gawking, stood up gracefully with a smile and headed for the front of the room. Standing in front of the class, she bowed. "I'm Rosalie Ashlen Watson," she said. "I would rather be called 'Rose.' And I would be happy to answer any question for the next -" she glanced at her watch, "- five minutes."
A bunch of hands shot up in the air.
Rose picked one kid with jet black hair and red eyes. "Are you single?" He asked.
"Yes" came her response.
"Do you have any siblings?" "A little brother."
"What's his name?" "Ashworth."
"How old are you?" "Sixteen."
"Didn't you like your old school?" "Sure."
"Why did you move?" "Long story."
"Do you have time to tell it?"
"Meet me outside by the sakura tree and I might tell it."
"What're your hobbies?" "Reading, writing, drawing, and playing music."
"Where -" The next girl was going to ask when Rose interrupted her.
"Sorry," she smiled apologetically to the class. "The five minutes are up." She went back to her seat, ignoring Seto's stares, again.
She wasn't afraid to tell everyone about herself. Seto thought, quite curious about her. She has a nice personality. Tall, but not as tall as me. Confident in herself. Nice because she didn't mind opening herself up to complete strangers. Then he caught himself. What am I thinking!? I could not possibly be falling for this chick! The chick who punched me in the jaw! Scoffing to himself, he shut his brain down and focused on his school work. All thoughts of Rose flew out the window.
Rose was paying attention but was staring out the window. Staring out at the beautiful scenery. Her eyes lit up at the idea, turning to her backpack to take out her sketch pad to capture the landscape outside.
Mr. Watts didn't know that she was drawing. He was just doing the lesson that the original teacher left.
Seto, however, was watching Rose draw. He watched her hand move, very carefully, to make the perfect strokes.
Eventually, she stopped and turned to him. Very angrily.
"What do you want, Mr. Kaiba?" She hissed, wanting him to stop the stares. Then continued to draw.
"You're a good artist, Rose," he whispered.
"You, sir," she said, stopping her artwork and looked at him dead in the eyes. "May call me 'Watson.' Just like I'll call you 'Kaiba'."
Seto huffed in annoyance. "I'll call you whatever I want to call you."
She rose her hand for the teacher.
Mt. Watts turned around, calling on her. "Yes, Ms. Watson?" He asked.
"May I be excused to go to the restroom?" She asked, giving the sub a sweet and innocent smile.
"Of course," he said. Quite easily falling for her charm.
She, again, stood up with grace and elegance. "Thank you," she said, politely.
Walking past the teacher and grabbed the bathroom pass before she left.
She did her thing, handing the pass back to the teacher. Giving him a kind smile, she went back to her seat.
Then continued to draw.
When the bell rang, Joey was right by her side. "Let's go outside," her suggested. "We can eat by the the trees and I can introduce you to my friends."
"Maybe she wants to hang out with meet, mutt," Seto piped up. Not knowing what compelled him to say something like that. But he's not going to back down from the challenge. The challenge to winning her over.
Rose shot a glare in his direction. "And maybe I don't want to," she hissed. "I don't like to hang around rich, spoiled, assholes. "She grabbed her stuff, leaving the building with Joey leading the way to his friends. She met Atem, Yugi, Tristan, Tea, Duke, Bakura, and Ryou. They happily accepted her into the group, although a few were flirting with her. She just dodged them.
Seto watched her for a few minutes. Wanting to see how she interacted with the "geek squad," as he called them. She was genuinely happy with her new friends. Goofing off, hitting one of the boys for flirting with her (Joey, Tristan, and Duke mostly), and talking about Duel Monsters.
"My favorite card is Neo-Daedalus," she said. Then did something amazing. She took out her deck, laid them on the ground. "Pick one and I'll pick after you."
They all obeyed, picking one card from her deck.
"Everyone picked one?" She asked them.
A chorus of "yeah's" were received.
"My turn." She picked a card out and smiled at them. "Reveal your cards first."
All of them laid their cards on the ground. Bakura had Shark Stickers (ATK 200/ DEF 1000). Ryou and Tristan got A Legendary Ocean (Spell/Field). Tea got Tornado Wall (Continuous Trap). Joey got Mermaid Knight (ATK 1500/ DEF 700). Duke got Drill Barnacle (ATK 300/ DEF 0). Yugi got Star Boy (ATK 550/DEF 500). Atem, or Yami, got Levia-Dragon—Daedalus (ATK 2600/DEF 1500).
"What da/the hell?!" Joey and Bakura screamed.
Ryou slapped Bakura for his language. Which got an "ow" from the former thief.
While Ryou, Tristan, and Tea looked like they had no problem with their cards.
Duke was staring at his card like "Is this thing for real?"
Yugi was staring at his card like it was adorable, even though the monster has one eye.
Atem was proud of himself for picking the strongest monster. "What did you pick?" He asked the blonde. Then a chorus of agreements followed after his question.
She just put her card down when they crowded around her. Her card was Ocean Dragon Lord—Neo-Daedalus (ATK 2900/DEF 1600).
"Wow" came the response of her new friends.
"Dat's one strong monsta," Joey complimented.
"Thanks," she said with a smile. "Want to hear the best part?"
"What's that?" Ryou asked, completely interested.
"I can see monsters," she admitted. Almost sheepishly. "Or, as they call themselves, Duel Spirits."
"What's mine?" Ryou asked.
"Your's Change of Heart," she answered.
"Mine?" Bakura questioned.
"Digibound," was her answer. Then shuddered upon hearing his name.
"What about me?!" Joey excitedly asked.
"Akai," she said. When he gave her a confused look, she elaborated. "Your Red Eyes."
"Oh!" He said. Looking away while he blushed a light pink.
"Mine?!" Yugi and Atem asked at the same time. They looked at each other and laughed.
"Mahaado and Mana," she said, turning to each male when she gave the names. Mana for Yugi and Mahaado for Atem. "The Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl." She smiled at them both after telling them.
They high-fived each other. While Yugi blushed a light pink.
"Tristan's is Cyber Commander," she continued. "Tea's is Magician of Faith."
The two brunets accepted this with a smile.
Then they began to talk amongst themselves.
Seto stopped listening, to them and began to think.
When the bell rang, everyone got up to head back to class.
Rose was talking to Yugi and Atem, blushing whenever the ex-Pharaoh complimented her.
Seto walked a little ways behind them
Rose waved bye after she was at her locker. Opening it up to switch out her books.
Seto's hand slammed next to her head, smirking at her. "Are you trying to make me jealous?" He huskily said in her ear.
She turned around, looking not amused. "Are you trying to piss me off?" She countered.
He was a bit shocked, he never showed it. "No," he said, truthfully.
"Then fuck off," was her response as she pushed him to shut her locker. Walking a bit away before turning toward him. "You need an attitude adjustment. Then try your luck with me."
Seto was shocked to hear this, clearly showing it because she was smirking.
"Good luck," she answered as she walked into the room.

Redoing this post without the cut line because I can’t figure out how to get rid of it on the original. based of this prompt from @write-it-motherfuckers
Kaiba bros from Yugioh with the tiniest dash of implied Prideshipping. Hope you all enjoy.
The faint sounds of muffled celebration could be heard through the walls, the sounds echoing through the lonely halls of the mansion even with the great distance between them. Despite the noise and just how many of them were gathered here, Mokuba knew he had little to worry about. They were a cocky bunch, assured of their own victory, and all very very drunk, he had checked.
As Mokuba finally arrived in the hall he had been searching for, he took a moment to rest against the wall, the weak irregular pounding of his heart sounding in his head as he dragged in shaky rasping breaths. Far too long Mokuba had been forced to sit aside and watch his “family” do unspeakable things in the name of “God”, too weak to take an active roll in stopping them. He had done little things to sabotage them, not that they knew, but there was so little he could do when he weren’t even strong enough to leave the house.
After what they had done this week however, Mokuba could no longer stand aside. They had always been vicious and cruel, using God as an excuse to do unspeakable evils. Their most recent hunt, had led them to capturing a family of peace loving vampires, two parents with three half vampire children. They intended to bind the parents and children, and force them to watch each other burn for their “sins”, the sin of existing.
It was the final straw for him, hearing how gleeful they were over something so deranged. So here he were, pushing his fragile body to a point you knew he wouldn’t be able to return from.
Shakily, Mokuba pushed yourself upright again, feeling some of the pain in his chest fade slightly. With trembling hands, he carefully opened up the secret door to the cells below, and made his way down the dark stairs. There were others that his family had caught, two werewolves, a witch, and one other vampire, who had been here even longer, your family having captured them a few weeks back.
He had been too powerful to be executed in the way they wanted to immediately, and so he had remained down here, being fed only enough to keep him alive, or in the vampires cases, not at all. Mokuba had always done what he could for those locked away down here, but this time he had gotten help. Two of the kitchen maids had ended up being witches, having gotten jobs here simply to help the other witch escape.
Mokuba had discovered what they were instantly, having always had a strange ability to feel a beings true nature, and approached them carefully. They had been wary at first, but soon began helping him. With their help, he had managed to bring food down to the prisoners once a day while his family were otherwise indisposed. Though they had no human blood to offer, (his body far too weak to be of use and the witches outright refusing for reasons of their own) they had managed to keep the vampires fed and strong with pigs blood, in preparation for their escape.
The witch, Ishizu, had warmed up to him first, having trusted Mokuba the moment he passed along the message from the other two. After her, the werewolves (Tristan and Otogi) had slowly come around, able to scent his lack of deceit when he answered their questions. Even the family of vampires had warmed up to Mokuba quickly when he had gently calmed and soothed their children, the family having separated the little kids from the parents, just to fulfil their own amusement at their suffering.
The only one who Mokuba was unsure of, was the lone vampire. He had been there the longest, and you still remembered the loud celebration they’d had after they had finally captured him, as well as the casualties. He was their biggest catch, and his power was why they were so wary with him, wanting him as weak as possible before they tried to officially kill the creature.
He was definitely an intimidating image, one glance from him enough to have anyone fearing for their life. You could tell that he was on an entirely different level to anything the family had ever dealt with before, and something told Mokuba that it would take very little for him to break out. For some reason though, he remained.
Unlike the others, the vampire had never spoken a word to him, watching him silently and intently with his blue hellfire gaze. Despite his silence, he had never made a move to harm Mokuba, remaining perfectly still whenever he arrived, his gaze following him like a physical touch until he had once more left, often with a light flutter in his chest that had nothing to do with his weakened state.
Shaking away his thoughts, Mokuba stepped into the room, smiling weakly at the children as they perked up at the sight of him. Seeing the keys in his hand, the rest of them perked up as well. Carefully, Mokuba went to the children first, unlocking the cell door and then carefully unbinding each of them, frowning at the sight of the burns around their tiny ankles. Next came the parents, who instantly gathered their children close once they were free.
Silently, he let them have their moment, knowing they needed to calm their children and themselves if they were going to escape properly. Soon enough he had the witch released, who thanked him before heading to the far wall that he had pointed out. The two werewolves practically tackled each other once they were free, nuzzling each others necks as they cried, soothing their inner wolf with the knowledge that they were no longer separated from their mate.
Suddenly, pain flared in Mokuba’s chest, and he subtly leaned against one of the cells, trying to ride out the wave of agony that overtook him. Once it had calmed enough, Mokuba opened his eyes and looked up, freezing as he found himself meeting the knowing gaze of the one vampire he had yet to free. In that moment, Mokuba could tell that he knew.
He was dying.
Pressing his lips in a firm line, Mokuba shakily straightened himself , determinedly making his way over to the final cell. He had known what would happen if he continued to push himself when he’d first started this, had known just how close he was to pushing too far. It was unlikely he would live to see the morning, but Mokuba couldn’t find it in him to be upset about it, not when his death would undo at least one of the families many many wrongs.
As the lock on the cell door finally clicked open, Mokuba looked up, not entirely surprised to see the vampire standing directly before it, free of his bindings as if they had been nothing but a mild inconvenience. Eyes locked with his, Mokuba pushed the door open for him and stepped shakily to the side. Behind him , he could hear the quiet sounds of the wall crumbling away at the hands of the three witches, the three of them quickly hugging as they were finally reunited, before beginning to guide the others to freedom using the path you had taught them about.
“Go… “ Mokuba whispered, unsure why he lingered.
The tall brunette vampire knelt down next to him. He stared deep into Mokuba’s eyes. “Go! You don’t want them to find-” Seto sswore softly and sliced his wrist open. Mokuba watched in a panic as the vampire brought the bleeding wound to his lips. Mokuba pushed it away “I don- wanna be a vampire…” he protested weakly.
“You already are. You’re a halfling like me. I should have known that they weren’t feeding you. I know the blood of our own kind isn’t great but it will keep you alive long enough for me to get you somewhere safe. Somewhere we can have you feed properly.” Seto pleaded. “Come on Mokie. Drink…for me…”
Something about the strange nickname echoed inside him as the vampire strode forward. Making him recall a soft smile, warmth and safety. Something that Mokuba never felt with the Schrodinger Hunter Clan.
“Drink.”
It was too soft to be a command Mokuba realized. It was almost as though Seto were begging him.
The nickname and the look of desperation in the normally stoic vampires eyes made Mokuba drop his hands and drink from Seto’s open wrist. The liquid acting like a key to the door of his own locked memories.
He was Mokuba Kaiba. He had been taken away from his elder brother by the Schroeder’s who had though they were “saving” a human child. Except he was a half vampire and with out regular blood he would have died soon enough.Mokuba fed until Seto took his wrist away and tucked him back to his chest. “There. Now let’s get out of here before those morons realize we’re gone.”
Seto scooped his little brother up into his arms and Mokuba found himself clinging to Seto’s shirt as they hit the night air outside of the crumbled wall. “I refuse to leave you behind again Mokie.”
Mokuba happily fell asleep against his brothers chest
“What the hell were you thinking?!” yelled a voice from outside the room. “You went off half cocked without a plan and no back up-”
Mokuba jerked away and found himself woke up in a large bed. Big enough for like 4 full grown adults to sprawl in without touching one another. He was warm and wrapped in blankets with an IV hooked into his arm giving him a steady infusion of blood. Mokuba looked around the room he was in, which could have fit three of the his bedroom back at the Schroeder’s. On the small bedside table sat a plush stuffed silvery white dragon with angry blue eyes. He reached out to stroke it’s soft fuzzy head
Seto’s voice drew him back to the conversation outside of his room. “Come off it Yami! Don’t pretend that you wouldn’t have done the exact same thing if it were Yugi or Atem-”
“At least I have a bond so at least someone would know where I went!” Yami’s voice snapped.
Mokuba couldn’t see either of them. The door was far enough away that he was sure he wasn’t supposed to be able to hear them word for word. But it was like he’s been wearing glasses that dimmed his vision and ear plugs for years. Now everything was sharper and even the dim lighting of the room was bright enough that he could see every detail of the ornate furniture.
“You should have at least left a note or something!” Yami shouted at Seto “You got your answer from Gozaburo and ran off! He was dead before anyone else found him! What if you had died Seto?!”
“Like they could have-”
“That is not the point Seto! What if you had? You and I both know that hunters have access to things that could kill even you. If they had killed you, darkness forbid, no one would have been able to find Mokuba. No one else could have saved him. Pretty stupid move for the Head Strategist! What did you expect me-the kingdom to do with you gone….” at the correction Yami’s voice softened, almost defeated.
Mokuba wondered for a moment what kind of relationship they had.
“Okay. Okay. I get it. Next time I’ll leave a note.” Seto said in a teasing tone.
“You had better because next time you pull a stunt like this I will lock you up.” Yami told him.
“I would love to see you try.”
“Don’t tempt me.” Yami chided.
There was something in Yami’s voice that Mokuba couldn’t quite place. He didn’t get long to think about it because someone knocked on the door. Out of habit Mokuba hastily laid back down and closed his eyes to feign sleep. He heard the door open and footsteps approach his bed. Mokuba opened his eye to just thin slits so he could watch Seto replace the blood bag. Then he sat down on the bed and brushed the hair out of Mokuba’s face.
“How are you feeling” Seto told him gently calling his bluff. Mokuba opened his eyes the rest of the way.
“I’m kind of tired. But I feel better than I have in a long time.” Mokuba told his brother opening his eyes. “Who was that?”  he asked referring to the stranger.
“Oh. That was just Yami. He came over to put his two cents in one my actions.” Seto told him.
“He sounded worried.”
“Yeah. Well being the brother to the King make you do that.” Seto answered frowning.
“But-”
“Hush.” Seto chided “You should be sleeping. My room is just down the hall if you need-”
“Seto?”
“Yes?”
“Stay with me?” Mokuba asked. Seto smiled down at him in a soft fond way that Mokuba had the feeling only he would ever get to see. Seto pulled off his boots and curled up behind Mokuba on the bed. He snagged the little dragon and handed it to Mokuba, wrapping his arms around the pair of them.
“Welcome home little brother.” Seto whispered to him softly.

Yugioh S2 Ep 31: You Can’t Spell Marriage Without Mai
First off, when I got to this episode, I turned to my bro and said “WHAT” and he said “Right? This episode is the best. It’s all down from here” and I was like “YOU SAID THAT TWO EPISODES AGO” so now I know Bro can never be trusted.
If you had told me the plot of this episode before I watched it, I’d say “no, that is Mario Party Fanfiction, and you’ve changed all the names.” That is where this episode went.
Does Mario Party Fanfic exist? Quick Google search, one moment. Dear Lord. OK, I’m back.
Now guys I want you to know that every time a ship comes up in Yugioh, I write like...10k words about it, math equations appearing around my head, as I try to figure out what the freakin hell anyone is even doing and if the writers even know what they’re doing, and I’ll just promptly delete it. I just want you to know the service I do for you. Every time it comes up I start ranting about what the hell an ancient Egyptian would even understand about modern romance and then I stop myself and go “No! Focus!” and I’ll Ctrl-A and I’ll just *delete* and feel a burden lift off my shoulders and into the ceiling like a prayer.
And then this episode happened?
And I’m just like...
...
well I TRIED to spare you.
Tumblr media
Please admire how many people they stuffed into Mai’s very small convertible. I half expected them to drive up to Kiki’s Delivery Service.
Tumblr media
In case you’ve also forgotten something that happened 40 episodes ago, Mai saved Joey last season by giving him a McGuffin as well as a gross ass handkerchief (which he doesn’t have anymore, the whole 'will they ever return the gross ass handkerchief’ plotline seems to have left the building) and finally, here, halfway through S2 we’re going to actually address why Mai would have any compassion for this bundle of awful kids.
I mean, Joey is still in high school and Mai is like 24 (although some say 44???) so I’m pretty sure they were trying to make it seem platonic or motherly between these two but eh, I don’t even know with this show, man. I mean she and Joey are 8 years apart but Serenity is 4 years Tristan’s junior despite Mokuba being 1 year younger than her and like right there. (Mokuba’s like 12 by the way, something surprising I found out when I did a Google Deep Dive on everyone’s canonical weight a few episodes ago.) And then Pharaoh is like either 5000 or 16-ish depending on who’s asking, so age doesn’t seem to be ever an inhibiting factor in this show.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But as is Yugioh tradition, any space that could possibly be filled with any growth between a boy and a girl--even platonically--must be absolutely derailed by something exploding.
(read more under the cut)
Stepping out from inside of this limousine is a man who wears sunglasses at night, and so at first I thought “oh hell it’s Pegasus’ security, he’s back” But he’s...he’s not. I really, really wish it were.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Joey literally wiped his hand off on the ass of his jeans before trying to shake the hand of this guy he has never mentioned before in his life but swears is his favorite person in the world.
Jean wisely left him hanging.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Joey is SO ready to see a ship in this show actually do something. So ready, that he is willing to accept Mai and this rando we’ve never seen before as canon, despite the fact I’m pretty sure a chunk of last season was trying (rather unsuccessfully) to pair him up with Mai?
It’s not where I expected this episode to go! I really thought we were going to go and play a tourney? We were meeting up with Kaiba at a stadium one block away - he’s just sitting there on his big ass dragon shaped chair and like “omg the moment I walk away they get completely distracted, every single time.”
Anyways, lets get to a flashback where very fancy people in pastel suits were playing cards because apparently cards isn’t just for streetfighting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have been wading through 1.5 seasons of these characters doing these elaborate dances around each other to never ever speak a word of commitment or relationship, and I’ve been pretty OK with them doing that. Honestly, the less romance in my Yugioh, the more satisfied I am, but then, after 1.5 seasons of basically nothing but Serenity wearing some bandages and needing a lift from the hospital, suddenly we have this random guy show up and profess marriage, and it is the most whiplash this show has ever given me.
I will accept demonic weird ass devices threatening children, spooky magic, bad history, and all sorts of weird ass outfits but like marraige???? wtf?????
Which is something that Mai seems to know because she turned him right down as you should when a person you’ve never met before decides to marry you based on your ability to coordinate cards in a deck.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Joey honestly thinks being a rich star will automatically make you marriageable material, because I guess Joey completely forgot about Seto Kaiba, a very famous billionaire who is maybe one of the least marriageable people on the planet.
Tumblr media
So what gets me about this episode and what makes it so freakin weird is that everyone here accepts this as the rules from this point on.
She MUST be married if Mai enters and then loses this game. Welcome to the Yugioh universe. This is how card people dating works. This is law, she has to accept this proposal if this card game based on chance loses.
Anyways, Yugi’s here to be the voice of reason in a dating episode and that’s something I didn’t expect to write in a sentence.
Tumblr media
Yes, his motive was “Mai, this will take too long” not “Mai, you don’t know this guy, and he’s probably crazy” it was “Mai please, I know the world will end when I enter this tourney and so you have nothing to lose and it’s the best time to marry a stranger actually, but can you not? It’s taking SO LONG.”
Tumblr media
Duke Devlin in the back still trying helplessly to keep up with what the hell is going on since he wandered on this team by complete accident four episodes ago.

And yes, it’s THIS that makes Joey not like this guy. Not the part where he proposed out of the blue, nearly ran over them with his car, stalked Mai for like a year, and then completely disregarded Mai’s common sense. No--this part, where he threatened to kick Mai out of the competition. That was the low blow to Joey.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You will lose this duel and gain a husband.
That is an actual line from the show, folks, this show went places.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
aaaaand Mai starts losing right away.
Tumblr media
DAMN
IT.
Tumblr media
This is the one thing I thought was pretty much in the bag. That there would not be the concept of one of these characters getting married. That was the One thing I was sure of. But I was not only wrong, but this is like the most bizarre wedding I’ve ever seen on TV. It’s basically a shotgun wedding but with cards???
Tumblr media
And what makes this more bizarre, and it was something I only noticed after watching this episode, is that we’ve seen this type of behavior before. But at the time, back in the beginning of this season I was just like “that was just a really weird thing that happened that wouldn’t possibly be accepted as normalized in this universe.”
Tumblr media
Like, remember that creepy DDR guy who dueled Yugi so that if he beat Yugi in a match, that creepy guy would become Tea’s boyfriend despite never spending more than 2 minutes with either of them? That despite the fact that Yugi isn’t even her boyfriend, it was like something all three of them were like “I guess I have to go through with this now.” At the time I just assumed that was an insane thing that happened. I just assumed that would never come back.
This was the episode where suddenly I realized, maybe the big issue with these kids dating is a hell of a lot more than just actually going on dates. Maybe it’s because I didn’t understand what their love language is. It’s not Receiving Gifts, Quality Time, Acts of Service, Words of Affirmation, and for sure as hell isn’t Physical Touch, it’s the 6th, not very often talked about love language, that’s right, it’s Cards. Rewrite everything, Gary Chapman. Tear it all down and reshoot all those Ted Talks, we forgot something.
Like, sometimes I forget that these guys live in a universe controlled by cards. I mean we’ve seen cards and romance intermingle twice. (three times, if you count Rebecca, who might be engaged to Yugi now? It was kind of a really weird ending to a card game) Pegasus even tried to resurrect his dead wife through cards. All these cards currently exist because of Pegasus’ undying love for Cecilia (who is...OMG I forgot that chick might be alive somewhere)
What I’m saying is that...What if this is how they’ve actually dated this whole time? What if this whole time that I assumed no one was dating they......they actually...were? What if I just didn’t notice, because it was just so freakin weird? What if this is more like how in a Jane Austen novel, if someone goes on a walk with someone else it’s basically like 3rd base?
Like, remember Jane Austen’s Persuasion, where Captain Wentworth went on a walk with Louisa and she was like “hey catch me, I’m 14 years old!” and then she tripped off a wall and got a concussion and he was like “DAMN IT! Now I have to marry her!” and everyone was like “Well congrats on getting married, Louisa.” and then she fell in love with a sad poet who gave her soup once while Captain Wentworth was getting his nuptials planned out in Bath and so Louisa dumped Captain Wentworth’s sorry ass and he was like “OH THANK YOU. YOU ARE SO 14.” And then sad soup man showed up in Bath while Wentworth and the rest of Louisa’s family was quickly crossing out “Wentworth” on all the marriage invitations and sad soup man was like “Before Louisa, I was in love with this other chick, but she died, so I’m pretty stoked I found Louisa.” and Captain Wentworth was like “You’re such an asshole for cheating on your dead girlfriend, I would never do that, you ass!” and then immediately married Anne Wentworth by writing her one single letter saying “hey, want to get married Y/N?” despite the fact that he went well out of his way to avoid her the entire book?
What if that’s been going on in the background of Yugioh but I just didn’t know because, unlike Persuasion, I never took a college class on Yugioh Dating Customs so I have no idea when it ever happens.?
See, this is the stuff I usually delete but like psh whatever, it’s a dating episode, so for once this isn’t a tangent, and yes, I am reading too much into this, thank you.
Anyway, after Joey asks Yugi what to do and then telephones what Yugi just told him to Mai enough times, Mai beats Jean Claud Magnum and avoids a lifetime of...whatever that would have been like.
However, something is off about that game and it takes a card wizard to explain it to us although it was...........really obvious.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the third time someone on this show was abducted by a ninja net.
Tumblr media
She gets kidnapped by a guy in a ninja jet suit contraption and this is her reaction!? Freakin lucid dream what the hell?
This is the weirdest show I’ve ever watched. Not so much because it has stuff other shows don’t have, but because it forces me to have these expectations of what I think it is and then, once I get comfortable, completely changes it. Last episode Bakura murdered 3 established characters in a graveyard. Like, not even random people, Bakura murdered 3 named people with funny accents we’ve known since last season. That was already completely insane for a kid’s show to do. But rather than address whatever the hell is going on with Bakura, we’re just going to add more to the pot and throw in this crazy asshole, too. For kicks.
Like this is a filler episode somehow? This filler episode would be an entire season of any other kid’s show.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So this episode ends with Mai hanging from a flag pole in a miniskirt, but it’s not like anyone in this city would ever peek their nose out of their window to see what the hell is going on, so at least she doesn’t have to worry about upskirting an entire town. Just these two people.
And like, Joey’s such a mess in that head anyway that like who freakin cares? He’ll probably wake up tomorrow without any memory of yesterday thanks to possession, drowning, getting beat up, tied up, and then this oncoming concussion.
Tumblr media
I’m pretty sure she should have stabbed him right through with this duel disk?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(the dialogue really does imply that if he had done this himself she would have been cool with it. How freakin weird is Mai?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then he just lets her go? Makes you wonder if it was an abduction or just a game he thought she would enjoy? I don’t know. This episode was all over the place. I mean...maybe he really thought she’d like getting caught in a net and being flown all around Domino? I don’t freakin know.
Like, in my opinion she was stalked for over a year and abducted with several witnesses. But, no one is calling the cops. So like...was this weird to them? This was very weird to us...but like...maybe Mai was like “hm, that was a so-so date.” because this type of behavior is just how this universe does?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
....
....
Yugioh, are you OK?
Anyways, next week:
Is the tourney cancelled because after episodes and episodes of tangents, no one ever freakin shows up and Kaiba has to go back to school to do a Chem final? Does Duke Devlin ever even do anything? Does it take 20 minutes for Bakura to walk through security because he keeps setting off the metal detector with his invisible necklace that he can never take off?

based off this prompt by @write-it-motherfuckers.
He were dying.
You're a halfling like me. I should have known that they weren’t feeding you. I know the blood of our own kind isn't great but it will keep you alive long enough for me to get you somewhere safe.
The nickname and the look of desperation in the normally stoic vampires eyes made Mokuba drop his hands and drink from Seto's open wrist. The liquid acting like a key to the door of his own locked memories.
He was Mokuba Kaiba. He had been taken away from his elder brother by the Schroeder's who had though they were “saving” a human child. Except he was a half vampire and with out regular blood he would have died soon enough.Mokuba fed until Seto took his wrist away and tucked him back to his chest. “There. Now let's get out of here before those morons realize we're gone.”
Mokuba looked around the room he was in, which could have fit three of the his bedroom back at the Schroeder's. On the small bedside table sat a plush stuffed silvery white dragon with angry blue eyes. He reached out to stroke it’s soft fuzzy head
Seto's voice drew him back to the conversation outside of his room. “Come off it Yami! Don't pretend that you wouldn't have done the exact same thing if it were Yugi or Atem-”

Yugioh S1 Ep 39: Turns Out It’s Really Easy to Be Psychic
So this week I’ve been a little under the weather because of some very aggressive pollen that has given me an eye twitch for two straight weeks (I’m in the most mediocre hell), and so forgive me if the recap is a little sparse and also if I just don’t...get why some things happened this episode. This was the episode where stuff just happens and I asked why to my bro but he kept getting distracted by talking about the actual cards and y’all know I don’t follow those. I can only handle so much lore.
So, I figure well, I know you guys don’t care when I botch understanding the intricate lore of Yugioh so get ready, because here it comes, right out of the gate.
Why is Grandpa here? Did I miss something?
Tumblr media
This is the first time Pharaoh and he have met and what wonderful timing. Not sure how Grandpa is able to just appear, or if maybe this is just a figment of Yugi’s left over brain, or if Pharaoh just willed this to happen with puzzle powers? I dunno, it’s unimportant because he shows up randomly for a few minutes and then zip, he’s just gone.
Like even in a dream Grandpa was a playing card. This grandpa is like...a full on Grandpa, just hanging out in the open forum that is Yugi’s head.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(read more under the cut)
On the other side of the pale, Yugi’s three friends decide they need to do the friendship thing. The power of friendship. The all-encompassing power of friendship that is in every anime but never fully explained. This is fine. I’ve seen anime before, so I’m already familiar with this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But instead of thinking “I believe in you!” and then having Yugi -who is already psychic-overhearing it, they instead have this a ritual they go through to psychically hang out in Yugi’s head.
Where did they learn to do this? Like if Pharaoh or Yugi or Bakura or any of the psychic players had explained even a little bit of How To Do Psychic Stuff I’d be like sure, this is fine. Instead, it’s like the puzzle makes it so the friends can just bum on over to Yugi’s head? Just like that? Why would they even have this idea?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But nah, this is just a thing that happens now--and while it probably won’t be utilized ever again, now we know that, if they felt like it, the three friends could just shake hands and then be like “hey Pharaoh, what’s up?”
And I watch these episodes with my bro and I asked him “bro, what was...what was happening here?” and although he is my house expert on Yugioh he was like,
“Uh, I don’t remember this part at all.”
“So HOW did this happen? Like, freakin Joey can’t be more psychic than Pegasus with a millennium eyeball, right? Is Yugi just a discord server you can log onto? How was it that easy?”
“I dunno, puzzle necklace!”
“The answer can’t just be puzzle necklace!”
“PUZZLE NECKLACE!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first time that Yugi’s friends get to finally meet Pharaoh and throw a sweet ass brain party in his own space, is a time where Yugi is completely prone and won’t remember any of it. This show just loves dunking on Yugi Muto.
How sweet would that brain party be though? And I don’t mean in a literal sense, because that party would suck so much, but it would be sweet because it would be so weird. Pharaoh seems like the type of guy who, after being alone for 4000 years is like “crap, I have company!?” and then puts on an Enya CD and is like “Enya’s what you’re into, right? Sail Away?” and then pulls out like 100 gallons of alcohol and is like “finally! I can do something with all this beer I got buried with--oh wait--kid’s can’t drink in this century! Beans!” and then after about a few bottles in as the evening wears on is like “Pssst- I know what your thinking because I can literally read your mind and so CHECK THIS OUT: it’s a canopic jar: YEAH that’s my liver! Just kidding that’s a soap dispenser. I have no idea where my liver is.”
Tumblr media
So there’s this monster on Pegasus’ side. My bro talked to me about 10 minutes of why this monster is the worst and I don’t recall any of it, but just know that apparently in the actual game this upcoming sequence is not even possible.
Not like I’m going to go into depth into Pegasus’ gross cards because 1.) I don’t cover duels here and 2.) it’s very...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is a lot of...sexual undertones in the duel monsters. Like Pharaoh’s ultimate monster was just covered in belts, which is his MO, but also it’s like...kinda BDSM-ey? It’s hard to avoid it because...just look at that eyeball thing. How did that air? With that...appendage?
Anyway, they win, thanks to the unlimited supply of friendship but mostly an unlimited supply of hair. I spared you having to see that eyeball monster do a lot of really gross things.
Tumblr media
Can you imagine if your best friends got to walk through your mind? It’s like if they read your journal but a million times closer than that. It’s more like if they saw you on the toilet. That type of closeness. Privacy just doesn’t seem to be a concept on this show.
Anyway, Yugi is back, with some battle damage, but overall just fine despite the fact he...died? Semi-died? Super unclear how he’s back or if he was gone or...if I’m thinking too much.
Tumblr media
Oh yeah, I totally forgot that Pegasus’ wife is probably a zombie somewhere. Oh man this arc really isn’t over, is it? This isn’t the last episode of the season--we’re...really far off from that actually.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Man this high-five where they biff it is really good.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pleased with themselves, they turn around to cash in their prizes only to realize the obvious:
Tumblr media
I am very shocked, now that I think of it, that Pharaoh decided not to mind-wipe Pegasus. Of everyone you could have mind-wiped, this was The Guy. Like yes, it doesn’t work very well, but if it only worked long enough to get off this island, then it would have been worth it. I guess Pharaoh was overly distracted by other things. He was just so excited about the impromptu block party in his head.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
WHAT?
We went through THREE EPISODES saving Mokuba from Bakura and now we’re just gonna leave the two together? Man, Tristan is so confident in his work he seems to forget that Everything Golden Is Magic And Can’t Be Trusted With Children.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
JUST WOW!
Anyway, Bakura’s gonna take a break from snatching Mokuba because he wants to add an eyeball to his collection.
Anyways, next week, on Yugioh:
Will it be revealed that there’s like 60 Cecilia’s, but they’re all built horrifically wrong? Where’s my anime lunch!? Is Seto Kaiba also just hanging out in a cell waiting for Tristan to come over and give him a piggy back ride?
