Cinema Culture In Chennai

I was not a fan of cinema and film stars at an early age. Still, after getting exposure to international Cinema, I am developing a good sense of it.

Cinema was not my part of life until my college days, but Cinema for me is the ticket to the world. It allows me to see the unexplored world around me and never burns my pocket. 

I consider Cinema as the art of conveying a story to an all-ages audience. So, most experts believe Cinema is not just an entertainment medium instead of a strong pillar in raising a society. I agree. 

What kind of mindset does a Cinema lover possess in this century.

 Cinema according to Industry

I want to point out one famous youtube show, Film Companion South, hosted by Baradwaj Rangan. It had Directors from the Kollywood industry, which refers Tamil Cinema Industry. 

This program has famous successful directors who belong to the current trend. For me, this show is a glimpse of this part of Indian Cinema's potential and their thoughts. 

They discuss direction excellence and what connects the director with the audience. However, the conversation revolves around technical stuff and focuses more on the audience. 

Out of this show, as a viewer, we get a clear picture of current audience expectations and how technically the audience has evolved to approach today's movie. 

Born in a Tamil family, I have spent half my life in this part of work and watched thousands of Tamil industry Cinemas. I can see the change and the scale this Industry has scaled. 

I would personally recommend movies like

Kaithi(2019)

Super Deluxe(2019)

Saivam(2014)

Aaranya Kaandam(2010) 

They also discuss the curse of the Kollywood Industry, which lags with good writers. They compare the Tamil cinema industry with the Kerala cinema industry and how it could do well in the future. 

Cinema according to the audience

Being a movie lover and a reviewer, I consider this portion for me, and I like to utilize this section. 

As mentioned above, because of good understanding between directors and audience Kollywood industry is booming, and the audience is receiving rewards through quality movies. 

A good movie should elevate the audience with a strong story, and it has to leave an everlasting imprint in their mind. 

More often, we could see Directors referring to western country directors. But, some directors in the Kollywood industry avoid the west's style of making and focusing on their stories and making.

I want to point out Director Parthiban's approach when he did Oththa seruppu size 7(2019). 

He spoke about what keeps him innovative and delivering path-breaking or experimental movies. He said, "the quest for what next & what others have not done."  

Director Parthiban is a well-known director among the Tamil audience. He created a separate niche through his speech and path-breaking movie-making. 

Starting his career with Puthiya Pathai(1989) till Oththa Seruppu size 7(2021), he silently shakes the Indian Cinema Industry. One good example is his movie Housefull(1999). He never had a script, dialogue sheet, and script sheet for the entire film. 

Mari Selvaraj & Ranjith had created a new trend. Because of these two directors, Tamil audiences have begun to enjoy watching lifestyle-based movies. Such directors and makers are elevating the audience. 

The Cinema culture in Kollywood is pretty decent and scaling up with new young directors and path-breaking directors like Ra. Parthiban, Ranjith, Mari selvaraj.

It's known that the well-known actor and producer of big-ticket movies, Bandla Ganesh, is getting introduced as a male protagonist.
