After being called to the Main Office of the CCG, Cole was sure that something was up. Normally he wasn't called there, rather he mostly needed to go to the nearest branch office. He wasn't exactly fond of going to the HQ, because the people there were more than hopeless. Most of the trainees were there and Cole couldn't stand them. They were just killing ghouls for the heck of it, without a purpose. But Cole had a reason to fight them. Growling slightly he made his way to the office of one of his higher-ups that had called him. The investigatior was so sure that they wanted him to get a partner to hunt ghouls and to be fairly honest. Cole wasn't interested in the least. He knocked on the door and walked inside the office once he was called in.

"First rank investigator Cole Dane, it's good to see you alive", the person he didn't bother to remember greeted him. With a click of his tongue he nodded and did his best to look as if he were listening to the other guy.

"As you are probably aware you do not have a partner as of yet-"

"I don't need one. They only get in my way", Cole interrupted angrily. It was always the same and it was annoying as heck.

"We know that, but we have decided to put someone useful to your side. After a recent experiment we have now made an artificial ghoul, who is able to use his Kagune, but remains human for the most part-" The investigator didn't like where this was going to he interrupted once again.

"A ghoul is a ghoul no matter how much part of him is human." The other just cleared their throat and continued.

"We thought it would be a good idea to give him into your care, as he is still inexperienced and needs training." He gave a sign to one of the people standing in the room and they hurried outside. Cole was annoyed at how the CCG thought they could just put a fucking ghoul under his care. His attention was brought back to the guy who had just left, when he came back with a kid following him. So that was that artificial ghoul?

To be fair, Ren found himself fond of living the life of a human. Everything from the abilities of walking to frugal enjoyments of enjoying a meal and such were all treasures to him. Of course, when he had first lived and was able to go out on his own after some time, he would end up regaling the tales in a tone that bordered on excitable to either Aoba or his best friend, Beni. It was charming in its own way to see the man who had once been a stoic canine a now giddy human with bright hues of gold and pearly white fangs. 

But if there was one thing Ren had noticed and even heard from someone—though it was said as a joke, a concept he still had yet to fully grasp—was that he could usually sound too reserved or emotionless. It wasn’t his fault, really. It was just how he was. It was a trait inhabited from his days of being a superego, a barrier to keep the sanity within Aoba. However, he thought that maybe he should try to learn from someone else about how to be a little more loose. 

So he turned to one of most outgoing of friends, which just so happened to be Beni. Tapping on the male's shoulder with pursed lips, he shuffled his feet as he went about how to propose his question.

"Beni? Do you think you could help me with something?"

Cole felt like he was losing his mind. He started forgetting things like his phone number, his address and passwords. Things that he should know perfectly and without fail. Then at random times he had a blackout and when he came to again things seemed a lot different. It was as if he had been on standby but at the same time he kept functioning. It always seemed like he was waking up at strange and unknown places. At times he didn't even feel like himself anymore. He had no idea what had happened to him and what was wrong. Only that something was very wrong. Cole had tried to get help from doctors, psychologists and many different professions. No one could help him, rather no one would believe a word he said.

It was just another day where he woke up from a horrible night filled with nightmares and the feeling of suffocation. It hurt. This whole condition started to physically hurt him. At times he felt as if scars started to tear themselves open and he could feel the blood oozing out. Sometimes he awoke with blood on his hands, but he himself had no wounds, nothing. But on that day things started to go wrong more frequently. It all started in the morning where in his panic he took his phone, but wasn't able to recall whom he wanted to call. So at five in the morning he hit redial and waited for someone to pick up. And when the other person did, Cole wasn't able to tell if he was really talking or not. He couldn't hear himself.

"Whoever there is I need help, I don't know what's wrong with me. My name is... what's my name?!" It was clear that he was panicking. He couldn't hear himself talking, he couldn't even think straight. And he had forgotten one of the most trivial things. His own name.
