Long before their surrender to police and subsequent executions, the Winchester boys had taken a prodigy under their wing.
He was violent and impulsive, much like Sam. He attacked people who looked at him the wrong way and he’d bring driver’s licenses home like trophies.
The Winchesters thought of him as a son, as someone to pass their knowledge on to.
When that trucker at the gas station had crossed the line, the boys snapped. Dean shot him and Sam took out his anger by carving him up.
Castiel was theirs. No one else’s.
When the time came for the Winchesters to surrender, they sent Castiel off with the hope that he’d continue what they’d started.
The public felt relieved when Sam and Dean were put to death.
Castiel mourned.
The Angel of Death rose.

Sometimes when Dean would sneak into his bedroom at night he would scurry through the window and throw himself into Castiels arms, shaking and weeping. Castiel would hold him until he calmed, until his shaking stopped and he would retract himself from Castiels arms to reveal his blood stained hands. Castiel would sigh and quietly pull Dean into the bathroom to rid him of the dried blood. Dean had these habits, ones that he often had a hard time controlling, habits that Castiel had always helped him cover up.

#tbt These are some old (5yrs old) Christmas card designs I did. I called her the Seasonal Serial Killer, and each one had a misleading title. Like on the front of the one with the noose it said “I hope you have fun hanging... (and then on the inside it finished)... out with your loved ones this holiday season!” They were super fun and I’d completely forgotten about them until today!
