Barcelona 4-0 Sevilla, La Liga: Match Review
Barcelona moved into second place in the standings with an important win over Sevilla. Four different goal scorers found the back of the net, including all three members of the attacking trio of Luis Suarez, Ousmane Dembele and Lionel Messi, while Arturo Vidal also scored for the Catalans. The win did come at a great cost as three Barcelona players picked up suspensions.
Ernesto Valverde again made changes to the lineup, leaving Antoine Griezmann on the bench and replaced him with Dembele. Vidal started in midfield in place of Sergio Busquets, while Jean-Clair Todibo starting alongside Gerard Pique with Clement Lenglet serving a one-game suspension. While Jordi Alba did make the match squad, he wasn’t deemed fit enough to start so Sergi Roberto and Nelson Semedo manned the two full-back spots.
Sevilla started the match in strong fashion, quickly creating a couple half chances, but the Barcelona defense and Marc-Andre ter Stegen did their job, even if the German in goal whiffed on an early high cross that eventually went unpunished. Barcelona were looking to surprise the visiting side with their quickness in transition, but the Catalans were unable to create much. Most of Barcelona’s early attacks came through the middle or the left side where Semedo was looking lively.
But it would be Sevilla who would threaten first. The cross came from the right side where Pique allowed Lucas Ocampos to send a perfect cut-back pass to Luuk de Jong, who was given too much space by Todibo. The Dutchman wasted no time and fired on goal, but ter Stegen made a marvelous save to keep the game scoreless. Ocampos was leading Sevilla on another attack just moments later, this time on the opposite wing, but Barcelona survived that attack as well.
Barcelona weren’t without their attacks, but Tomaš Vaclik went largely untested. Sevilla on the other hand seemingly created a scoring chance whenever they came near the Blagurana penalty area. De Jong almost put Sevilla in front from a corner kick in the 18th minute but missed just enough to send it wide of the far post. Messi had a decent chance to open the scoring from a free kick in the 23rd minute, but his attempt whistled over the bar.
A similar trend from recent weeks was remerging where Barcelona dominated possession, but again turned the ball over too easily, and all too often allowed Sevilla through the midfield without much opposition. De Jong would have another chance for Sevilla in the 26th minute, but buried the header into the ground before the ball bounced over the goal.
Barcelona hadn’t shown an awful lot up until this point, but the very next minute, in the 27th, the Catalans took the lead. Again the hosts were attacking down the left side and Semedo sent a gppd cross in front of goal, where Suarez was allowed too much space. The ball, however, was a bit behind the Uruguayan, though that proved no problem. Suarez set himself up with his back to the goal and rose up for a bicycle kick that he buried past a helpless Vaclik.
Just five minutes later, Barcelona doubled their lead. Clearly buoyed by their arguably undeserving lead, Barcelona were back on the offensive, with Arthur showing good patience on the edge of the area in search of options. He found a great option in Vidal making a run through the middle and he found him with a perfectly placed over the top ball that the Chilean redirected into the back of the net. Three minutes later Barcelona added another, with Arthur pickup up his second assist. The Brazilian found Dembele inside the area who deked Diego Carlos out of his pants and placed the ball into the far post for his first goal of the season. Shortly thereafter, Messi had another look from a free kick, but again his aim was off the mark.
The final ten minutes of the half were much calmer, even though the two sides exchanged attacks, but none led to much excitement and Barcelona were up by three going into the break, despite spending the opening 25 minutes clinging on for dear life.
Needing to turn things around, Julen Lopetegui made two substitutions before the second half kickoff. Joan Jordán replaced Óliver Torres while Munir El Haddadi took Nolito’s place in a substitution of former Barcelona players. Sevilla almost pulled one back just four minutes in, after a turnover from an uncalled foul on Arthur, but de Jong hit the post in yet another missed chance for the Dutchman. It was yet another instance in which Mateu Lahoz swallowed his whistle.
Sevilla continued to press forward, but Barcelona were somehow still clinging on to the clean sheet. On the other end, the visitors were leaving plenty of space, but Barcelona weren’t able to exploit that space to the fullest. In the 60th minute, Messi came the closest to scoring his first one this season, after a stunning run past several defenders, but his shot, seemingly destined for the far post, was tipped wide by Vaclik.
Barcelona made their first substitution in the 65th minute as Busquets replaced the fantastic Arthur while for Sevilla, Javier Hernández replaced the snake-bitten de Jong. A couple minutes later, Vidal excellently found Dembele in space inside the area, but the Frenchman powered the ball way off target. Ivan Rakitić took Vidal’s spot in the 70th minute.
Ter Stegen was forced into a good save in the 72nd minute, and on the same play Todibo was forced off the pitch after picking up a knock. He was replaced by Ronald Araujo, for whom the situation marked his Barcelona debut. 78 minutes in, Messi scored his first goal of the season – in excellent fashion. Stepping up for a free kick 20-yards out, slightly to the right side, Messi didn’t take his best shot, but it was more than good enough to find the back of the net, even if Vaclik touched the ball with his fingertips.
With five minutes left to play, Pique picked up his fifth yellow card this season, ruling him out against Eibar. Lahoz showed more of his true colors in the dying minutes of the match, showing two straight red cards to Araujo and Dembele – the first for a slight tug, the second for a complaint about the slight tug. Clearly, Lahoz wasn’t happy about the score and had to leave a mark. Barcelona secured three big points against Sevilla, but will be going to Eibar severely shorthanded due to Lahoz’s quick trigger. International break up next.

Copa del Rey Tactical Analysis: Barcelona vs Levante
Artwork by @chapulana
Barcelona proved exactly why the Copa del Rey means the King’s Cup as they beat Levante 3-0. Using statistics, this tactical analysis will show how this match progressed.
After the 2-1 loss in the first leg Barcelona returned to the Camp Nou to face Levante. A late converted penalty by Philippe Coutinho had provided the away goal. Right from the moment the squad selection was announced, it was very apparent that Barcelona had decided to step up their game.
Unlike last time, a very strong team was announced. Nobody was selected from Barcelona’s B team, unlike the first leg. With Barcelona having made their intentions clear well in advance, let’s analyse how this match played out.
Recent form
Barcelona have been on excellent form in La Liga. Winning their last six league games with an aggregate goals tally of 18-1, Barcelona are league leaders, five points ahead of Diego Simeone‘s Atletico Madrid. Barcelona should have been able to turn over this 2-1 loss easily.
Levante are a completely different story. Winning only one game in La Liga in December, they trail on aggregate 14-10. Barcelona have always found Levante to be tricky opponents. The infamous loss to them this year lead to the atmosphere being very tense.
Build-up
There was much anticipation to this match. This match was fought on and off the pitch. Barcelona played Barcelona B defender Chumi, in the first leg. According to Levante, this should be illegal as he had picked up a suspension in the Segunda Division. But Barcelona were sticking to their side saying that is not applicable.
Coutinho had not been in the best of form recently. His previous match was very good however, and it was set up to be a turning point for him. Whether Valverde would start him remained to be seen.
This looked to be an important match for Enis Bardhi. The Macedonian was one of the worst players when Levante last lost to Barcelona. Here, playing against Barcelona’s first team, it would be important for him to prove himself. Cillessen has consistently been excellent when given a chance. He is not a selection problem for Ernesto Valverde right now, but this match could change it.
Line-ups
The line-ups were announced and as expected Barcelona put out a very strong team and so did Levante.
Barcelona (4-3-3)
Manager: Ernesto Valverde
Barcelona went with Jasper Cillessen in goal. In defense, Lenglet was joined by new boy Jeison Murillo. On the right was Portuguese right back, Nelson Semedo. Jordi Alba retained his spot at left back. In midfield, the trio of Artur, Rakitic and Vidal looked very strong. The front three were Dembele, Messi and Countinho. Some key players were clearly rested. Suarez, Pique, Busquets, Sergi Roberto were on the bench, as was youngster Carles Aleña also made the bench.
Levante (3-5-2)
Manager: Paco Lopez
Levante had gone with a very defensive option. In goal, Fernandez had the back three of Rober, Postigo and Cabaco in front of him. The midfield of five was with Enis Bardhi, the freekick specialist, to the left of Prcic along with Simon. Campaña and Coke played to the right of Prcic. The front two were the real threat. Ex-Real Madrid player Mayoral along with last season’s hat trick hero, Boateng.
Key Players
Barcelona
Messi naturally was one of the key players. Along with La Pulga, Brazil’s Arthur was bound to be a key player initiating many forward passes and key passes.
Levante
For Levante, young striker Emmanuel Boateng was very important. Despite having the lead, Boateng’s hold up play and fast dribbling was essential. Borja Mayoral had been in good form and he was also counted on. Bardhi would be very important in midfield.
How it unfolded
0′-15′ (0-0)
For the first 15 minutes, Levante had no say in the game. Having a lot of possession, Barcelona were strong in attack through Ousmane Dembele. Surprisingly, Leo Messi lost possession numerous times. Barcelona’s new signing, Murillo was very calm when needed.
15′-30′ (0-0)
Levante were very compact and looked to apply immediate pressure. Whereas for Barcelona, Ivan Rakitic dropped between the defence to transition the ball. Levante created a few chances but always lacked an end product. The tempo of the match was slower.
30′-45′(2-0)
This period was the most eventful. Dembele’s speed was a constant problem. In the 30th minute, Messi played a pass to Dembele who had made a great run. Levante tried to clear it but it came off Dembele and went in. The second goal was another stroke of luck. The French youngster made another great run which resulted in a good pass and a chip over the keeper. The ball would have gone out of play if not for the goalkeeper’s legs hitting it.
Half Time (2-0)
45′-60′ (3-0) Early into the second half, Coutinho latched onto Messi’s ball and puts it into the net. Unfortunately, the goal was disallowed due to offside. In the 54th minute, Dembele picked up the run of Semedo superbly. Semedo pulled it back to Messi who delicately chipped it over the keeper’s legs.
60′-75′ (3-0) Levante enjoyed a bit of possession here. Both teams made substitutions. Suarez came on for Coutinho who put in a great performance. It was a very slow period for Barcelona as they neither looked threatening nor threatened. Levante created a few chances.
75′-90′ (3-0)
Suarez got a chance to score which was saved. Cillessen showed his dominance in the box by punching away the ball. In the 92nd minute, Levante got their best chance on goal as Boateng hits the woodwork. The match finished 3-0 as Barcelona comfortably progressed to the next round.
Overview
Barcelona transitioned into a 3-4-3 with Semedo moving up into midfield. His pace allowed him that freedom. The key men were very clearly Leo Messi and Arthur. As shown in the figure below, Messi was his usual self by unlocking the defence at will. Always making the right decision was what made Messi valuable in open play. Meanwhile, Arthur was very much the orchestrator. Without Busquets, Arthur was the one recycling possession along with Rakitic. This duo proved to be more than a handful for Levante.
Arthur was dangerous with his passing as he stayed back in open space.
Levante played in a very defensive 5-3-2. Boateng was the lone striker up front. Enis Bardhi and Mayoral were almost like attacking midfielders. Levante played very compactly up the pitch. Enis Bardhi passed the ball around and dictated his team. Levante were not very effective at keeping possession throughout.
Levante relied on Bardhi as an advanced playmaker.
Sustained attacking
Barcelona had 65% posession in total. Sustaining their attacking was what they built play upon. Upon losing possession, Barcelona would immediately press. This resulted in Barcelona recovering 80 balls to Levante’s 60.
This aggressive pressing did make a difference. But what mattered was how Barcelona made use of this situation. Barcelona made eight counter attacks in this match, three of which resulted in shots. They also made 43 progressive passes with a 71% accuracy. Throughout the match, Barcelona constantly looked to pass the ball forward and into the final third. This caused Levante to be very defensive minded. Boateng was a lone striker and Bardhi played as an advanced playmaker.
Barcelona made 199 passes into the final third. This huge number caused the chances to be created. It was no wonder Barcelona had more than one shot on target per 10 minutes.
The X Factor
Ousmane Dembele was very impressive in this match. The French winger scored twice but could have scored even more. Levante’s defence was no match for his pace. In the example shown, we see how even though Barcelona were outnumbered, they created chances. The perfect run by Dembele was such that Messi could slide the ball to him. Simultaneously, his speed made it impossible for defenders to tackle him fearing a penalty.
Dembele’s pace was a constant problem
Dembele was very impressive throughout. His chemistry with Nelson Semedo was astounding. Playing on the right, both are very quick and agile. Many times, Dembele slid the ball between defenders just as Semedo overlapped him.
This caused a number of problems. Such a play resulted in Messi’s goal. In the image shown, we see the advanced position Semedo is in. He pulls the ball back through two defenders and Messi finishes the job.
Semedo pulls the ball back to Messi which is then converted.
Another example of Dembele’s skill is shown. He executed a perfect chip over the defence to free Leo Messi.
Ousmane Dembele executes a chip over the defense to Messi
Levante lacked this x factor horribly and it was a very disappointing performance from an otherwise lively team.
Movement off the ball
For Levante, either Bardhi or Mayoral would transition between midfield and attack frequently. As shown in the image below, had Barcelona tried marking the player that dropped back, Levante would have played the ball to Boateng. This tactic failed to work as Levante immediately lost possession during transition.
Bardhi or Mayoral would transition between midfield and attack hoping to create space by destabilising their marker.
Arturo Vidal often joined the attack. Some conditions for this were very clear. Whenever Messi or Coutinho got the ball at the edge of the box, Vidal would move up. Dembele and Vidal would be in the box and this even resulted in a few good opportunities through headers. Vidal also played on the edge of the box during attack. Joining most attacks, was an important part of numerical superiority in many passing combinations.
Arturo Vidal would frequently join the attack at the edge of or in the box
Arthur was an important cog in the midfield. With his great passing ability, he usually stayed back on attacks. With plenty of open space in front of him, he was able to play precise passes to teammates. Usually he took his time on the ball but when needed, playing quick passes was no problem. With these, he could also start attacks.
Conclusion
Levante came with a great game plan. At the rate which Barcelona moved up the pitch though, they were helpless. The quick recycling of possession by Barcelona combined with organised play was not manageable for Levante.
After such a performance, a 3-0 win to Barcelona was more than enough for them to advance to the semi-finals as they look to win the Copa del Rey for a record fifth consecutive time.

Barcelona 8-2 Huesca: Lionel Messi-inspired champions thrash minnows
Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez both scored twice as Barcelona hit eight goals past La Liga newcomers Huesca.
The minnows took an early lead through Watford loanee Cucho Hernandez but Messi levelled with a shot off the post.
The Argentine also hit the bar and added a second on the counter-attack, as well as assisting two goals.
He could have had a hat-trick when Barca won a late penalty, but he let Suarez take it for his second goal.
Relive the action as it happened
The win takes Barcelona level with Real Madrid at the top of La Liga on nine points from three games.
Huesca – in their first top-flight season – lost 8-1 on their only previous trip to the Nou Camp in the Copa del Rey in 2014-15.
They got off to a perfect start when 19-year-old Hernandez turned the ball home from close range.
Messi levelled with a good finish after skilfully moving into the box.
The champions took the lead when Jorge Pulido scored an own goal from Jordi Alba’s cross, and the Barca defender then set up Suarez for a goal eventually allowed by the video assistant referee.
Alex Gallar gave the visitors, who had not lost in their opening two games, renewed home with a close-range goal moments later.
But Barca were rampant after the break with Ousmane Dembele scoring his third goal of the season from Suarez’s pass.
Messi then set up a great goal, with Ivan Rakitic smashing the ball home on the bounce.
The Argentine chased on to a Philippe Coutinho ball to score his second, then played in Alba for Barca’s seventh – in the week the left-back was left out of Spain’s squad.
Suarez won an injury-time penalty following a foul by keeper Axel Werner and threw the ball to Messi so he could score his third. But the Barcelona captain gave the ball back to his team-mate, who sent Werner the wrong way.

Actual Madrid 2-2 Barcelona: What can Liverpool study from El Clasico?
Actual Madrid 2-2 Barcelona: What can Liverpool study from El Clasico?
Actual Madrid 2-2 Barcelona: What can Liverpool study from El Clasico?
Cristiano Ronaldo, this season’s prime scorer within the Champions League, was heading in the right direction in El Clasico
Sunday’s extremely eventful Clasico, which completed as a 2-2 draw, confirmed Actual Madrid at their finest and worst, giving Liverpool followers purpose for each optimism and concern for the Champions League remaining in Kiev on Saturday, 26 Could.
The chief hallmarks of this unusual season for the Bernabeu giants have been inconsistency and unpredictability – by way of staff choice, ways and total high quality of efficiency, and all these elements had been on show in a frantic evening on the Nou Camp.
At occasions Los Blancos had been merely wonderful, particularly within the remaining half hour of the opening interval once they deservedly equalised via the all the time harmful Cristiano Ronaldo, having taken full management of the sport as Barca had been unable to maintain maintain of possession or mount threatening assaults.
However Actual ended up having to accept a share of the spoils after additionally displaying their flaws each individually and collectively, littering their efficiency with errors and infrequently permitting their staff form to change into very ragged – regardless of taking part in with an additional man for 45 minutes after Sergi Roberto’s sending off simply earlier than the break.
Let’s break down a efficiency which had a bit of fine, dangerous and ugly, completely displaying each the strengths and weaknesses of Zinedine Zidane’s staff and permitting Liverpool followers to consider that though their upcoming opponents are able to being superb certainly, they’re definitely not unbeatable.
Defence
Actual Madrid left Luis Suarez free to volley residence Barcelona’s opener
Zidane was lacking his first-choice right-back Dani Carvajal, however that gave him a chance to welcome again the versatile and underrated Nacho after harm. Nacho’s significance is commonly ignored – he can play anyplace throughout the backline and Zidane would haven’t any hesitation in beginning him in opposition to Liverpool if any of the first-choice again 4 are injured.
Nonetheless, on this event Nacho appeared understandably rusty in his first begin for greater than a month, and he was changed for the ultimate levels by Lucas Vazquez – often a winger – after getting a yellow card and turning into a dismissal threat. Carvajal, who has a hamstring harm, would considerably enhance the staff if he returns for the Liverpool assembly.
Many of the evening, and particularly through the first half, Actual had been strong defensively. Led by excellent captain Sergio Ramos they pressed with depth and conviction, closing down the house accessible to Barcelona with the appreciable help of defensive midfielder Casemiro.
However there have been additionally some severe lapses, beginning with the opening purpose which was constructed far too simply by the house staff, benefiting from Actual’s very excessive line with a few easy passes to launch Roberto, whose unchallenged cross from the precise flank was transformed by Luis Suarez.
If there’s one factor we all know Liverpool can do after their semi-final in opposition to Roma, it is benefiting from a excessive line of defense.
As usually occurs, Marcelo was nowhere to be seen when that purpose was scored, with the skilled Brazilian caught nicely upfield and unable to get again – forcing Nacho to return into the center and depart Suarez unmarked as he peeled away to the far publish.
It does not even actually really feel proper to name Marcelo a defender contemplating the period of time he spends across the opposition penalty space, and that’s very a lot a double-edged sword: he’s in all probability the perfect attacking full-back on the planet, however very recurrently leaves oceans of house for opponents to take advantage of behind him.
It isn’t by chance that Bayern right-back Joshua Kimmich netted in each legs of the Champions League semi-final, and the tempo of Liverpool’s entrance three on the break may show to be exceptionally harmful in Kiev, particularly if they’ll goal the left-back slot when Marcelo is nowhere to be seen.
Though Actual will really feel aggrieved that Suarez clearly appeared to foul Raphael Varane within the build-up to Barcelona’s different purpose, brilliantly netted by Lionel Messi, it’s a must to marvel why a staff taking part in in opposition to 10 males left themselves so badly uncovered after Varane had misplaced out – and the identical utilized slightly later when Suarez launched Messi for a one-on-one probability which goalkeeper Keylor Navas did nicely to maintain out.
There was additionally one other outing for Ramos well-known lapses in self-discipline, with the risky Spain worldwide needlessly getting himself booked after frightening a tussle with Suarez. Ramos was subsequently fortunate to flee a second yellow as he fouled Ivan Rakitic, that means that he may very simply have earned himself a very pointless sending off – not for the primary time in his profession.
Ramos is all the time liable to get himself into bother with officers, and the ability and trickery of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane may pressure him to stroll a disciplinary tightrope as soon as once more.
And extra typically, this Clasico confirmed one thing that has been obvious all season: Actual Madrid all the time offer you an opportunity. With the shape they’ve proven in latest months, Salah, Mane and Roberto Firmino ought to be capable to create clear goalscoring probabilities in opposition to this defence.
Midfield
Casemiro breaks up play – however is not probably the most artistic participant for Actual Madrid
The established trio of enforcer Casemiro behind ball gamers Luka Modric and Toni Kroos was chosen by Zidane for this sport, with versatile Isco injured and wingers Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez on the bench together with energetic Croat Mateo Kovacic.
This was a return to the midfield system utilized by Zidane for almost all of video games throughout his first season in cost, however much less usually employed not too long ago as Casemiro has discovered himself ignored in favour of Kovacic in a number of large video games, together with the second leg in opposition to Bayern Munich.
The dilemma with Casemiro is that he’s in all probability Actual’s weakest participant on the ball however with none doubt their strongest defensive presence entrance of the again 4, the place he is ready to learn the sport nicely and use his highly effective physique to interrupt up opposition assaults.
He did that very nicely within the first half, and with Modric and Kroos pulling the strings whereas Casemiro dutifully tidied up behind them, Actual had been capable of comfortably take management of the encounter. However Casemiro could be a legal responsibility in possession, particularly if he’s being pressed, and Zidane is clearly torn between his physicality and Kovacic’s higher ball taking part in abilities.
In any case, Zidane may go for a unique set-up altogether, usually selecting to play with Asensio and Vazquez as wingers in a 4-4-2 form, which tends to offer extra safety for Marcelo’s rampaging runs and would unfold the pitch to make it harder for Liverpool’s midfield to make use of their most popular urgent ways.
Contemplating all of the choices accessible to Zidane and his willingness to make full use of them, one in all Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp’s largest difficulties in making ready for the ultimate might be making an attempt to anticipate which system Zidane will make use of.
Assault
Gareth Bale scored on the Nou Camp, however continues to be unlikely to start out in Kiev if everyone seems to be match
Sunday’s Clasico was a uncommon outing – even perhaps the final – for the ‘BBC’ ahead line, which has been seen with growing infrequency since Gareth Bale dropped down the pecking order to spark hypothesis that he’ll depart Madrid in the summertime.
This sport was a return to that formation however with a tweak, as Karim Benzema operated from a beginning place on the left of the entrance three to permit Ronaldo to keep up his new function via the center – though there was loads of fluidity so their positions had been largely interchangeable.
Within the first half Benzema and Ronaldo labored very nicely collectively, with the Frenchman recurrently dropping deep into midfield to hyperlink play with Modric and Kroos, whereas Ronaldo set his sights firmly and fiercely on the Barcelona purpose.
Their mixture presents a serious problem to Liverpool centre-backs Virgil van Dijk and Dejan Lovren, who must determine the way to monitor Benzema’s motion into deeper positions while additionally managing the limitless purpose menace posed by Ronaldo.
The Portuguese ahead was merely wonderful in opposition to Barcelona. He scored from Benzema’s knockdown, despatched a few headers over the bar, fired one low shot simply vast and had one other one nicely saved.
Ronaldo was a continuing purpose menace, and Actual followers might be praying there isn’t any severe harm with the foot harm he sustained within the act of scoring and which pressured him off at half-time – making his staff look significantly much less potent in entrance of purpose after the break. His nostril for purpose is proven by the truth that he had extra photographs in 45 minutes (seven) than anybody else within the full 90.
And what to make of Bale? On the entire this was a reasonably poor efficiency from the Welshman, whose solely vital motion within the first half was a vicious studs-up problem on Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti which may have simply warranted a straight purple card however by some means escaped punishment.
Bale improved after the break however was nonetheless largely a fringe presence till he despatched a reminder of his undoubted qualities by popping up with a wonderful end on the sting of the field to safe a draw. Whether or not that remoted second in an in any other case disappointing show might be sufficient to advertise him in Zidane’s pondering for Kiev is unlikely, particularly when Isco returns to health.
However having Bale because the second or third selection from the bench reveals simply how a lot attacking energy Zidane has at his disposal, and assuming Ronaldo’s foot harm is nothing vital it is clear that Liverpool’s defence had higher be prepared for a really lengthy evening.

Barca can play, suffer and win in the Calderon
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
the boat nears the Fiona’s Cup after winning 1-2 in the Vicente Calderón thanks to an impressive part and knowing suffering in the second before the harassment of an Atletico that knew how to compete the desperate. The goals by Luis Suárez and Messi served income while Griezmann slashed distances in the best red and white minutes.
despite the low by injury Andrés Iniesta and Sergio Busquets, Luis Enrique opted for its Center less toilet field, with Mascherano and midfielder Rakitic and André Gomes’s interior journey instead of Denis Suárez and Arda Turan, two options that, in theory, ensure more technique and control. It was clear that Barça would not become obsessed with leaving the ball played from behind . If Atletico allowed us to wait back, along with the usual philosophy, but if Simeone pushed very high danger for the crew team because this Barca could be very direct. That is when forms of play antagonistic, surprise, although by influencing the diversity sometimes can become confusing, as in League with Betis last Sunday.
on this occasion the tactical adventure came out you well into the boat. With Atletico still deciding how to deal with the party, because Simeone, despite its many virtues, is more than play according to rival that of taking initiatives, Mascherano stole a ball boosting your sense of anticipation in that area and Luis Suárez made everything else, which was not little: control, superb autopase and perfect definition at the minute 6 to achieve the 0-1.
Although Atletico tried to react with a couple of dangerous actions ball stopped, one of its strengths, the boat arrivals, and spaces the rojiblancas rush, ever did more damage. Neymar proved to Moya in the 23′ and sin of generous at the 27′ looking for Luis Suárez in firing position, something Messi did not do in the 32′. Received in the 32′ rowed to attack the ball with the left-handed from out of the area and not is you thought : whiplash impressive that came after touching in a post. 0-2 in half an hour.
despite shot of Koke in the 41′ which went high to touching Cillessen Stringer, Atletico was very touched and the boat lacked only combine with a little more than precision in meters end to sentence already the tie before half-time.
with 0-2 Atletico had nothing more to lose and was launched with everything for the goal after the break, since the change of a striker like Fernando Torres for a defense as Vrsaljko. And amassing troops in the area of attack somewhat upset to the goal of the Barça, with a shot of Koke Alba in a providential way in the 49′, saved Although the boat returned to intimidate an occasion of Mascherano that he joined the attack in search of his first goal as Barca, but the shot came out focused to the hands of Moya.
Luisn Enrique sought precision in the cons giving entrance to Denis Suárez from Rakitic and Simeone sought the touch of Gaitan in liugar of a fatigued Saul brega. With the two teams studying the new approach Griezmann was the smartest in a rehearsed move : extension of Godin and header from French to give hope to Atletico in the 58′.
the party went crazy after the 1-2. André Gomes stretched to Moya from outside the area seconds before Cillessen avoid streaked Griezmann 2-2 a point blank. But despite the arrival of Barça, Atletico was doing with the reins of the encounter and still remained half an hour.
with the entrance of Gameiro for Carrasco in the 69′, the athletic already burned all their ships. A 2-2. This time, said Luis Enrique cooling the average with Rafinha by André Gomes. Precisely, the hispanobrasileno suffered a failure outside the area in the 75′ that Messi crashed into a pole, after hand Moya saving . 1-3 has become closer 2-2 in this action and in the next, with high Neymar shot on goal, victim of an irregular boat of the ball position.
the party reached the final ten minutes with both teams looking for the goal. He Barca not knew how to control the game with the marker to please and not was precise in their cons, allowing to the athletic arrive again and again. C so Gameiro takes advantage of a bug in Cillessen pass in the 80′ and towers, spur, the tie in the 81′ and the 83′after a robbery of Griezmann ball to Mascherano in touched another bad output from the rear. Now that Atletico believed and Filipe Luis, Griezmann and Juanfran were very close to the goal. Deserved it Atletico at the end, but 1-2 places to Barca with one foot in the Cup final. That Yes, will have it to work still more in the Camp Nou…
Atletico de Madrid, 1 Moya; Vrsaljko (Fernando Torres, m. 46), Savic, Godin, Filipe; Gabi, Juanfran, Koke, Saul (Gaitán, m. 58); Griezmann and Carrasco (Gameiro, m. 69).
There was additionally one other outing for Ramos’ well-known lapses in self-discipline, with the risky Spain worldwide needlessly getting himself booked after frightening a tussle with Suarez.
