This could be complete bullshit so just hear me out from writer to writer: (Lovers Pinch ideas? (Established fluff/connection))

Late night, jazz and coffee. Rain against the windows. Reader is lying on a sofa in the corner of Joel’s office (y’know those therapy ones but not a therapy one. You get what I mean). She’s half awake with a laptop across her chest, reading some bleary looking papers on her assignment.

She had come to Joel’s office for clarification on one of her papers. (He swears they have to stop meeting like this). Joel is hunched over his desk with a book relating to the topic, scanning over the pages before turning to the reader. He then starts reciting the lines to her (they’re all sappy and confusing and angsty but secretly relating to his relationship with the reader???!!)

Reader smiles softly, staryeyed at Joel and realising “fuck, I think I like this man more than I should”

something about rain against the windows and warm coffee and these two getting all cosy together in his office full of books and papers and he probably puts on a record that he thinks she would like and he notices her tapping her fingers against the couch to the beat and he smiles and feels so quietly triumphant that he put on something she enjoys...... im swooning

Literally screaming right now, that chapter was so fucking good I just cannot- I did NOT expect Joel to move to live with her but I'm so glad he did. Can't wait for the epilogue <3

It was important to me that reader didn’t uproot her life (as tempting as it was by the end). Joel has always known her as this smart, independent, hardworking woman and has never wanted to change that. Plus with Sarah being there too, it just made sense to me that he’d wanna be closer to both of his girls 🤎

Okay so my Rachel theory is that either she has caught onto the reader and Joel and has threatened to report them or something, orrrrr she has offered him some sort of job position elsewhere, where he would need to move, sort of like a promotion, which keeps him away from the reader

This is a sort of weird question buttttt: Do you have any advice for writers on how to seek out like... advice givers/editors/pre-readers of their work (hopefully that makes sense). Like, the type of person where you can message them and be like "Hey, please read this and let me know what you think" yknow? And then they read over it and be like "Oohhh it would be really cool if you added (x)" because I just love that sort of thing where you can bounce off other like-minded individuals to get the best out of your work to make it satisfying for both yourself and readers. I have ideas bubbling in my head for a Joel series I wanna do but I just don't really know how to get it off the ground.

hey mate! sorry this took me a hot minute to respond to -- mainly because i was taking the time to consider a thoughtful answer🫠

and after all this time i fear the answer is that i do not have much good advice here - i do know that i've seen some people posting in my timeline about being down to beta read and/or edit for people writing particular characters, but i haven't been able to find these posts again unfortunately -- this could be something to keep an eye out for!

this is definitely a big writer struggle! and finding likeminded people to flesh out ideas and plot points and characterisations with is so invaluable! i think the only advice i could maybe give is to make a few posts calling out for anyone who'd be interested? personally, the only people i've ever considered asking to beta for me are moots that i've chatted with a lot and i know have a strong grasp of what i'm trying to achieve. i'm sorry i can't be of more help😵‍💫i appreciate you saying i seem good at interacting haha, i hope the fact that it took me a week [or longer?] to respond to this hasn't changed your mind,...💀
