How to Deal With a Full Septic Tank
If your septic tank is full, it's crucial to take immediate action to prevent potential issues and damage to your septic system. Here's what to do:
Limit Water Usage: Minimize water usage in your household to prevent further strain on the already full septic tank. Avoid doing laundry, taking long showers, or running excessive water appliances until the issue is resolved.
Avoid flushing: Do not flush toilets or drain water into sinks or drains connected to the septic system. This will prevent septic tank backups and overflows.
Locate the Tank: Identify the location of your septic tank if you're unsure. It's typically buried underground, and you may need to consult a professional or refer to property records for assistance.
Contact a Professional: Reach out to a licensed septic tank professional or a reputable septic service company. They have the expertise and equipment to address the situation safely and efficiently.
Pump the Tank: The septic tank professional pumps the tank to remove solids and liquids. They will use specialized equipment to extract the contents properly and dispose of them according to local regulations.
Inspect the System: After pumping the tank, the professional may inspect for any clogged septic system. They can identify problems and provide recommendations for repairs or ongoing maintenance.

Rain can affect your septic system. 🌧 🚽 A well-functioning septic system should not be affected by rain. However, many older septic systems don’t function at their highest capacities when the ground is saturated with water. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a few things you can do to limp your system along until the ground dries up. It’s also important to note that not all systems will recover after failure due to rain. 1. Minimize household wastewater usage. 2. Ensure there are no dripping faucets, running toilets or malfunctioning water softeners adding extra water to the system. 3. Pump your tank to prevent household wastewater from entering the drainfield until the tank is filled. This usually takes about 2-7 days, depending on how much water your household uses. Once the tank re-fills, water will begin to flow into the drainfield again. If it rains again or the drainfield is unable to handle the water load, you may experience problems again. 4. Wait and see if the problem persists after the rainy period has passed and the ground is no longer saturated. Even vacant homes have experienced backup in the septic tank due to groundwater infiltration into their system. While the steps above may help reduce any problems, there is no guarantee. Hopefully your septic system has “weathered the storm.” If you are experiencing problems, we’re happy to help service your system, complete a new system installation, or answer any questions you may have. #RooterManUpstate #Rain #SepticSystemMaintenance #ScheduleAnInspection (864)585-0093 (at Rooter-Man Upstate)

SEPTIC & CESSPOOL SAFETY
Septic System, Septic Tank, & Cesspool Safety Warnings
Providing inspection and diagnosis of on-site waste disposal systems is an extremely valuable public service which helps protect people from expensive unanticipated septic system repair costs and helps protect public health by assuring sanitary disposal of sewage and gray water waste from buildings.
More importantly though, septic system inspections may detect and warn about serious safety hazards at some properties.
The strong warnings issued below intend to reduce septic system safety hazards for inspectors and property owners/occupants, but it is not the author's intention to dissuade inspectors from providing this valuable service.
Watch out: Septic tanks, cesspools, and drywells present serious hazards including septic cave-in's or collapses, methane gas explosion hazards, and asphyxiation hazards. Simple precautions and proper maintenance can help avoid a dangerous or expensive septic problem.
We at MJ Central Septic are offer maintenance contracts and are qualified to conducting these inspections. Check out our web page to verify if we service your specific system. If still in doubt give us a call at (210)875-3625

Septic System Spring Season Cleaning Tips in Grand Haven, Michigan
Here are steps you should take to help get your septic clean and ready for spring.
Pump the Tanks
When it comes to preparing your septic for spring, one of the first things you should do is have the tanks emptied by West Michigan Septic Sewer and Drain Services. This is particularly true if you live in an area that experiences torrential rainstorms during the spring. Torrential rains or snow runoff can cause your seepage pit to overflow, which can cause serious problems for your septic tanks.
Clean the Drains
While you're having your septic system serviced by West Michigan Septic Sewer and Drain Services you should also have your drains cleaned –especially if you've noticed foul odors coming up from the sinks, or you've experienced sewage backups into your bathtubs. Those problems are signs that your drains are too dirty to function properly. Not only that but if you've had a sewage backup into your home, your drains could be contaminated with fecal matter. To eliminate the problems, it's a good idea to have your drains cleaned each time your septic system is serviced.
Secure the Clean-Out Drain
You might not realize this, but you have clean-out drains located around the outside perimeter of your home. Those clean-out drains lead right to your septic system. Unfortunately, that access can pose a threat to your septic system, especially during the rainy season. Now that spring is just around the corner, it's time to inspect the drain covers. If the clean-out drain covers are damaged – or missing – they should be replaced as soon as possible. This will prevent rainwater from flooding your septic system.
Repair the Leaks
Over-saturation risks don't just come from exterior problems such as torrential rains, or broken drain caps. They also come for leaks inside your home. While you're taking care of your spring septic maintenance, it's a good idea to inspect your inside plumbing for leaks. To test your faucets, place a bowl in each sink before going to bed. If you see water in the bowls when you wake up in the morning, you have leaks that will need to be repaired.
To test your toilets, place several drops of food coloring in the toilet tanks – enough to change the color of the water. Leave the toilets alone for about 30 minutes. If the colored water has seeped into the toilet bowl, you have a leak in your toilet tank. Repairing the leaks as soon as possible will prevent septic problems by reducing the amount of wasted water that's flowing into the tank each day.
Winter is almost over. It's time to service your septic system. The tips provided here will help you avoid septic problems this spring.
Problems with your septic system can’t be left unchecked, and you won’t want to wait around until the problem is all over your lawn. If you own a restaurant or a commercial establishment with a cafeteria or your home. Better yet, instead of paying for expensive emergency service, you can schedule for a spring cleaning from West Michigan Septic Sewer and Drain Services to prevent the problems from ever occurring. We offer you a variety of affordable maintenance program options, so just call us anytime for details.
