Noughts and Crosses (Series 1) "The point of the story is to turn white supremacy on its head and use African culture to explain what it’s like to live in a world where the culture is predominantly white. It was bittersweet because of the story, but it was also the first time I’ve ever seen African culture be so bold and loud on TV, which was phenomenal." "I was really excited to play a young black girl who is privileged and has the world on her side and is so protected. Having the character then learn about the world and become conscious of the way people are treated was just so much fun. The journey of Sephy is just beautiful to me. It was fascinating to play someone who feels like an outsider among their own people and turns her back on her own blood to be of help to those living a much harder life. I was so impressed by Sephy. I think more people around the world should take after her and do the work to help those who are oppressed."
"A love story is a story that I think almost anyone can relate to, a love story is universal and I think that allows audiences to really invest in the world we have created and pick up on the racial injustices and social injustices the characters face based on the colour of people’s skin. I think a love story gives people a way into that." - Masali Baduza
