The night guarded her steps, this was her last chance to save everything she lost, her youth, her beauty, her life. She ran as fast as her old bones could, she could see them shining, her only ray of hope for completing her mission. Kneeling down her hands shakily cupped the petals while her lips whispered the words she knew by heart.

“Flower, gleam and glow

The power coursed through her veins, her cheeks became flushed, eyes brimmed with life, she was ready. Turning she begun walking towards the castle, the last step she had to take to touch what every mortal desired, eternal life.

Her hands grasped her hood, pulling it over her head, waiting for the guards to change turns. It was a moonless night, her silhouette blended with the shadows of the night, making it impossible for anyone to notice her crossing the threshold of the gates, strolling through the halls, rushing up the stairs, opening the door of the highest room of the main tower.

The room was silent, the only thing moving was the small animals dangling from the mobile. Careful steps took her to the crib where her treasure was sleeping, the princess. Her chest rose with every little breath she took, rosy cheeks caressed by her long lasses, she was perfect. But the intruder did not care for any of that, her glowering grey eyes were fixed on the long hair that surrounded the princess. Even without the moonlight, it gleamed as it slipped through the woman’s fingers. Her smile turned crooked as she grabbed the little girl, fondly stroking her hair. And with the rise of dawn, they both vanished.
