The Chinese character for 'Chan' is also slightly different. To put it simply, it is the difference whether there is a side of 'bead jade', which is an adjunct of 'chan'.
Today, it is common to write 姜邯贊 following the notation of 《Goryeosa》, but it is also found written as 姜邯瓚. The name of the pagoda written on the pagoda built by Kang Gam-chan at Heungguksa Temple above is written as 姜邯瓚. In the 《Annals of King Jeongjo》 of the Joseon Dynasty, Min Jong-hyeon, the presiding judge of the Joseon Dynasty, made this appeal while mentioning the tower of Heungguksa Temple above. "There is a pagoda at the old site of Heungguksa Temple in Songgyeong (松京: Gaegyeong), and there is a note on the top of the pagoda. It's different. In general, stone engravings are much more reliable than wood engravings. From now on, it would be better to write all Kang Gam-chan's names with the letters chan (瓚)." So, the king followed suit. 從之. Faith, 比諸登榟之本, 不啻懸隔. 《Annals of King Jeongjo》 July 21, 20th year of King Jeongjo. The notation 姜邯贊 is from 《Goryeosa》 compiled in the early Joseon Dynasty, and the stone pagoda of Heungguksa Temple built by Kang Gam-chan says 姜邯瓚. And it is said that Jeongjo followed it as it was. Perhaps this is a story that has been controversial since around this time, Han Chi-yoon in the reign of King Jeongjo also cited this pagoda name in 《Haedong History》 as a basis. "In 《Goryeosa》, his name is written except for the 'bead jade' side, but it should be regarded as accurate that it is written on the tower of Heungguksa Temple." also claimed that
The Heungguk Temple Tower is located in North Korea and cannot be confirmed now, but the inscription remains. Link However, considering that it is mostly recorded as 姜邯贊 and recorded differently only here, there is a possibility that the 'bead jade' side was worn in old age. Tattoo of King Seongjong, the 6th king of Goryeo. He is regarded as a byword for Goryeo diplomats and is a representative of Korean diplomatic history along with Kim Chun-chu of Silla, Lee Ye of Joseon, and Choi Myeong-gil of Joseon.
Although she is perceived as a diplomat, in reality, Seo Hui was not only a diplomat, but also a strategist with a long-term perspective who served as prime minister, and a politician with a sense of principle and responsibility. did. At this time, Sosonnyeong defeated the Goryeo army at Bongsan, advertised that the army was 800,000 strong, and threatened the Goryeo court to surrender, but Goryeo agreed to surrender. Regarding the method of surrender, they were divided between the theory of peace and the theory of peace after giving away the land north of Seogyeong to Liao. In fact, the 800,000 army was a lie. It is today's guess that the army of Sosunning at that time was difficult to exceed 60,000 at most. At that time, Khitan's expeditions could be largely divided into those commanded by Dotong or higher and those not commanded by Dotong. Expeditions led by Dotong often numbered more than 150,000 men, but expeditions not led by Dotong numbered up to six. It was about ten thousand people. Since Xiao Sunning's position at the time was not a Taoist, it is impossible to rule out the possibility that the maximum number of soldiers that Xiao Sunning could command was 60,000 or less.
The bluff worked because Yun Seo-an's vanguard was severely defeated by this force at the forefront of Bongsanseong Fortress. The number of soldiers that Goryeo could mobilize was more than 60,000, but it took a certain amount of time to mobilize and mobilize combatable troops, and it failed to buy time. After the Battle of Bongsanseong, So Son-nyeong loudly shouted, "Surrender unconditionally," to Lee Mong-jeon, an envoy dispatched by Goryeo, and the Goryeo government faced a confusing situation.[15]

Warning: *Minors DNI* *While I will try my best, I want to apologize ahead of time if my AU isn't period accurate, I will be taking a lot of creative freedom given that it's an AU. DNI if you don't like the AU as mostly background and setup aesthetics*
How to participate: 1. Pick 1 (or more) of the NCT Teaboys from the list and I will write a smut piece *The personality pieces are for inspo and for fun; if you want something different for the guys' personalities in your fantasy (IE. Yuta is a samurai and Y/N works in the Teahouse) don’t hesitate to let me know in your request!*
2. Optional: Add in any details you want… IE. -Teaboy Dom or Sub or Switch? -Gender of OC/[Y/N] -plot details? -kinks? -anything else at all (within my regular request rules) ➡️💚
Pick your NCT Teaboy (or more if you can afford it):
~Sorry I couldn't add all 23 members; it was hard to choose who to put into this AU~
Seo Young Ho (Johnny): The most skilled Teaboy in the House, Young Ho often prepares his tea ceremonies in a secluded hut in the woods due to the noise complaints from patrons early in his career. Won’t you spend a night in the woods with this strapping Teaboy?
Lee Taeyong: Captivating with his dancing and shamisen playing skills, Taeyong is highly in demand. That won’t stop this enthusiastic Teaboy from giving you the most satisfying tea ceremony of your life…
Nakamoto Yuta: The Mysterious Teaboy might pour you the best cup of tea in your life…or he might be slipping you poison. Will you take the risk on the Teaboy no one knows anything about?
Qian Kun: The Gentle Tea Pourer has steady hands and a sweet voice. Smooth and complex like his tea, his skills will soothe your pains away…

Jeong Yun-o: The Clumsy Teaboy’s hands will likely ruin your tea, but you’ll forget the imperfection when Jaehyun's hands work better on you…
Dong Sicheng (Winwin): The new Teaboy is a nervous wreck, but his earnest effort is charming. Once alone for the evening, Sicheng reveals a more assertive side in his tea ceremony…
Kim Jungwoo: Jungwoo provides the best company in his tea ceremonies. The Enthusiastic Teaboy will let you live out any and all of your wildest dreams…

♡ Disclaimer ♡ Words: 3k
My Letterboxd - I rate movies My TVTime - I rate K-dramas and any series that I watch.
♡ Context:
A Korean Odyssey (Hwayugi) is a romantic comedy & fantasy tv-series loosely based on the Chinese novel ‘Journey to the West’.
♡ Main Cast:
Lee Seung-Gi as Son O-Gong, Cha Seung-Won as Woo Whee & Oh Yeon-Seo as Jin Sun-Mi
♡ Description:
The drama is about Son O-Gong and Jin Sun-Mi who meet under strange circumstances. Jin Sun-Mi has been able to see ghosts her entire life. When she was younger, she tried to help a demon king recover a precious artifact but instead, accidentally lets Son O-Gong out from his invisible house in the middle of the woods when he tricks her to do so as only a human can free him. Jin Sun-Mi, a naive child, becomes punished from this by being given the title “Samjang”. Jokes on both of them though as they meet again because of a deal they made long ago, but, you’ll have to see for yourself.
♡ Ratings: IMDb (8.4/10), MyDramaList (8.4/10) ♡ My Opinion: 9/10 -This drama was really good actually and I’d recommend it to anyone. (I started watching this with my friend as it’s our favourite pass time at sleepovers - so if you’re looking for a good time, watch this.) -Good acting -The story is good and I never found it slow or boring
♡ Context:
Age Of Youth (also known as Hello, My Twenties!) is a coming of age and romance drama.
♡ Main Cast:
Season 1 - Han Ye-Ri as Yoon Jin-Myung, Han Seung-Yeon as Jung Ye-Eun, Park Eun-Bin as Song Ji-Won, Ryu Hwa-Young as Kang Yi-Na & Park Hye-Soo as Yoo Eun-Jae
Season 2 - Han Ye-Ri as Yoon Jin-Myung, Han Seung-Yeon as Jung Ye-Eun, Park Eun-Bin as Song Ji-Won, Ryu Hwa-Young as Kang Yi-Na (only for special appearance), Ji-Woo as Yoo Eun-Jae & Choi A-Ra as Jo Eun
♡ Description:
Age Of Youth is about five female housemates who live together at the Belle Epoque. While strangers at first, they are able to bond and connect over the traumas they experienced while growing up and face challenges together. There are two seasons and some character changes in the second season.
♡ Ratings: IMBd (8.3/10), MyDramaList (8.8/10)
♡ My Opinion: 7/10 -I did really like Age of Youth and I think it’s a good drama for you to start watching if you are new to dramas. -I give this drama a 7 out of 10, only because I’ve seen better ones suited towards my tastes. -Good actors but annoying they changed so much
♡ Context:
Black is a romance, thriller, fantasy, & comedy K-drama.
♡ Main Cast:
Song Seung-Heon as Black & Han Moo-Gang & Go Ara as Kang Ha-Ram
♡ Description:
Black is the story of a Grim Reaper who is ordered to track down his partner who escaped to the mortal realm. In the process of this, he meets Kang Ha-Ram who can see the shadows of death despite being a mortal woman. This complicates things especially after he finds a case from 20 years ago and falls in love with Ha-Ram in the process. Supernatural rules against involvement in human affairs were meant to be broken, right?
♡ Ratings: IMBd (8.2/10), MyDramaList (8.3/10)
♡ My Opinion: 9/10 -One of my favourite K-Drama’s and I highly recommend this to anyone. -It gets a bit dark at times though so I suggest having a light comedy to watch afterward. -Good actors and they have nice chemistry in my opinion -Story is easy to follow
♡ Context:
Blood is a rom-com, action & suspense K-drama.
♡ Main Cast:
Ahn Jae-Hyeon as Park Ji-Sang, Ku Hye-Sun as Yoo Ri-Ta & Ji Jin-Hee as Lee Jae-Wook
♡ Description:
Park Ji Sang is a doctor who works in the best cancer research hospital in the country. He is a great doctor because of his knowledge of the human anatomy and he’s a vampire... Despite him seeming cold and unfeeling, he has a soft heart and has experienced the inner pain of wanting to be close with people but without knowing how. He has very high morals and believes highly in the sanctity of human life so he suppresses his thirst for blood to save human lives; Unfortunately, he isn’t the only vampire and not all of them agree in his way of thinking. Among his colleagues is Yoo Ri Ta, a hotshot physician who entered medical school at the age of only 17 while simultaneously being the niece of the chairman.
♡ Ratings: IMBd (7.1/10), MyDramaList (7.5/10)
♡ My Opinion: 8/10 -It took me a while to finish this drama but I lose interest quite easily so it isn’t anything to do with the quality of this drama. -My original interest in this drama came from the actress Ku Hye-sun as she was one of the main characters in Boys Over Flowers (next review). -The chemistry between the main actors, Ku Hye-sun and Ahn Jae-Hyun is really good (and they’re married in real life!). -This drama handles romance and everything pretty well however if you’re looking for a drama with a lot of fangirl moments then I suggest something else -(but this did have some good romance moments).
♡ Context:
Boys Over Flowers is a romance & a very, very dramatic drama.
♡ Main Cast:
Lee Min-Ho as Koo Jun-Pyo, Ku Hye-Seon as Geum Jan-Di, Kim Hyun-Joong as Yun Ji-Hu, Kim Beom as So Lee-Jeong & Kim Jun as Song Woo-Bin.
♡ Description:
At a famous high school for the incredibly rich, this love story is focussed on Geum Jan-di and the members of F4 - a gang of 4 handsome and rich men lead by Gu/Koo Jun-pyo. Jan-di is a poor girl with a poor family. She gets rewarded for a good deed and gets the chance to attend this high school. Here, she meets the infamous F4 group and is joined by Jun-pyo who is a spoiled heir to world-leading conglomerate ‘Shinwa’. Their love story travels from Seoul to New Caledonia to even Macau.
♡ Ratings: IMBd (8.1/10), MyDramaList (8/10)
♡ My Opinion: 8/10 -My friend and I watched this drama together as it’s said to be the OG K-drama, it’s like the orientation to the world of Korean Dramas. -Many reviews hated it but this drama was fun to scream at when the characters made poor decisions -This made me cry (not surprising as a lot of these have made me cry) but this one is the most memorable to me because of the good times I had watching it; so I recommend this drama to anyone who firsts asks me for K-drama recs. -Starts off slow but once you get into it you’ll have the time of your life.
♡ Context:
Click Your Heart is a mini-series and romance drama.
♡ Main Cast:
Kwon Mi Na as Mina, Baek Ju Ho as Ju Ho, Kang Cha Ni as Cha Ni, Kim Ro Woon as Ro Woon & Lee Da Won as Lee Da Won.
♡ Description:
Mina is a high-school student who must choose between an athlete, an ‘intellectual’, a ‘loner’ and a dancer. Singing On the Fence
~Music~
The graceful sweep of pale trees and elven towers stood beside the sun’s half-hidden disk. Motionless air stewed in the aroma of warm ocean salt and algae.
Seo-yun’s glazed stare drifted with the rapid glimmer of the sea. His eyes were lost on the pink horizon. They were tired. Blank. And his paws were empty. Not even a box of lures sat at his side.
He didn’t seem to notice the blase-faced gunslinger strutting closer, or the footsteps creaking the wharf’s shallow planks. Oshiban took a casual swig from his cask of scotch and grinned down at him. “Hey hey, if it isn’t my favorite wharf bum!” His nose crinkled at Seo-yun’s familiar fish stench, apparently tolerating it. “I thought you and Naggy McBonenag were all fixed up? I asked if you struck back out with the Tarts and heard you were a no-show. Weren’t you going to--woah,” he stopped. “Woah. Back up. This can’t be what I’m seeing, right?” Oshiban veered his head, searching every feasible angle of the water. All he saw was a pair of fuzzy feet dangling over the wharf. “You’re not fishing? The hell’s the matter, you sick or something?”
Seo-yun said nothing.
“...Oh,” he sighed, rolling his eyes with a jaded frown. “Let me guess. You heard about the barbecued Kaldorei-kabobs? Is that 500 gold to Mr. Il’vineen or am I way off?”
A low huff of air fled his nose.
“Listen, I hate those freakin’ fairy snobs, but even I think that was pretty messed up. Not to mention that World Tree’s literally toast and that’ll probably bite us all in the ass later. But hey. Only one crazy bitch made that call. No one else has changed, yanno? I mean, okay. Not even Saurfang stopped her, but just goes to show. We’re all out for our own backs. That’s how it is.”
The pandaren finally spared him a side-glance.
“There he is. Here, you need this more than me.” He offered his flask.
Seo-yun hesitated... then grabbed it and threw back his head. Glug, glug, glug, glug, glug--
Oshiban snatched it back, “Hey, that’s enough! That 12-year stuff isn’t cheap. And you know you’re not supposed to chug it like that, right?”
With his paw still in mid-air, his eyes bubbled sadly at its sudden lack of booze.
“...Fuck. That’s just not fair. How does a guy this shabby figure out a way to look that adorable? Fine, take it.”
--Grab! Glug, glug, glug, glug... Seo-yun pulled his head upright once he’d drained the cask of its last drop. He seemed a little more content. Somewhat.
“Look,” Oshiban slid to a seat beside him. “That edge queen’s always been bad news. Nothing has to be different. It’s not like you’ve ever actually joined the Horde army and have to stand by all the Warchief’s shitty decisions. You can still go out and be our resident lawn sprinkler, rock some piano, make a shaman-y slip-and-slide for the kids... I mean, yanno. August gets pretty bad.”
“...Noodles ‘n’ seafood.”
He blinked at him, startled to hear his voice. “Uhhh. You asking to order out? If that’s the case my vote is on Troll cajun. I had noodles last night.”
Seo-yun handed back Oshiban’s flask and finally turned to face him. His eyes brimmed with a sudden heartfelt tension. “Noodles ‘n’ seafood. Ya wanna know what got me into th’ Horde? That’s it. Left Northrend, reunited with my ol’ family, saved ‘em from the Sha, and didn’t know where to go. So I started that Tuskarr-Pandaren restaurant ya liked. Needed a venue. Was hard to find space after everyone ‘n’ their gramma was inspired to cook 'cause o’ Pandaria. Stormwind, full. Darnassus, full. Ironforge, full. Orgrimmar, full. Undercity made me barf. Silvermoon had a space. Set up shop, kicked ass, then went outta business after a year ‘cause the guy who took over cut too many corners. Fished, sailed around, and joined the Tarts. That’s it. That’s how I joined the Horde. Inspired yet?”
Oshiban stared at him in awe, his jaw unashamedly ajar, as Seo-yun actually continued making a long-winded speech.
“Family’s everythin’ to me. But my family’s never been the Horde. Thought th’ feud between Alliance and Horde was dumb since day one. Been as neutral as they come. But I’ve been throwin’ myself around battlefields just tryin’ to make sure none o’ my friends die. I’m tired! And hungry! Well, I’m always hungry, but I’m tired! Now everyone wants me fightin’ again because the Alliance are angry that the Horde attacked because they’re angry the Alliance attacked because the Horde did this and the Alliance did-- it’s so confusing!!” his graveled voice cried, the rims of his eyes reddening with tears. “I can’t keep track an’ I don’t care! Got called a hypocrite ‘cause I’m not ‘treatin’ the Horde like my family,’ but the Horde never were. Got friends in all kinds o’ factions! All I wanna care about is what to do fer my next show and whether ‘r not my friends ‘n’ family’re okay. Those’re my people. Are a bunch of ‘em suddenly not if I don’t wanna fight fer the Horde? Why can’t I stick by them without havin’ to die fer a war that even I know is stupid?!”
Once the initial shock had passed, Oshiban’s gaze fell to the lapping tide. A small, grim smile tugged his mouth. He looked back up. “Hey. Uh. I’m really bad at this advice thing, but I do have something to say. Seo-yun, you’re naive, slow, have rose-colored glasses super-glued to your fur, and you’re so stupid you make kobolds look like gnomish physics professors. But you’re among the few people I’ve ever met that I actually like. You know why?”
Seo-yun sniffled and wiped his nose.
“You have something that, like, 98% of people on this rock either don’t have, or lie about having. You have a heart of actual gold. You’re like... one of those small boys in Winter’s Veil specials that Greatfather Winter sits on his lap before he says ‘once upon a time.’ Or a giant puppy. You don’t have a cruel or deceitful bone in your body and you’re too dumb to manipulate anyone. You’re insanely loyal to people who don’t deserve it, and that’s exactly why they call you a hypocrite. They know the loyalty you have to your families, and they wish they had the balls. Projection’s a bitch.” Oshiban scoffed, “Hell... even I’m jealous. But that’s probably because, honestly? It’d be nice to have a family at all. I learned kinda quick that life’s too full of back-stabbing bastards to really have anything like that.” He shrugged, “That’s life.
“Anyway, I sorta... I wish I could protect that wildly misguided innocence you have. I wish I could stop your heart from growing up. If there were more of you I’d be out of a job, but it’s kinda nice to know that people like you exist. So if you don’t wanna fight for the Horde because the Horde isn’t your family? Then don’t. Don’t listen to those assbags. Grab your keyboard and sing on your neutral fence. Throw waterpark buckets all over people as a Moa’ki guy who’s just keeping his friends alive, not a Horde guy. Who cares? You and me are gonna be rolling in it anyway.”
Confused, Seo-yun knitted his forehead, waiting for him to elaborate.
“I’m gonna make big bucks takin’ out bad guys for the Horde. You, however, won’t just have plenty of work as a healer. You’re the piano guy. That’s why people are gonna need you more than they’ll ever need me.” Oshiban smiled.
Seo-yun’s eyes glinted with a touched warmth. He returned it. “Thanks, man.” With a leathery shuffle against wood, he turned back to admire the sea.
“So uh, you know I got lots of contacts in the spa industry you’re... you’re sure you don’t wanna do anything about that fish smell situation?”
Seo-yun snorted wryly. “Tell ‘em ‘Good luck.’”

Top 10 Favorite Movies- Horror
I love to watch movies. As someone who is chronically ill and spends most of her time at home, movies are a great way for me to entertain myself for little or no cost. Some of my favorite genres are Sci-fi, Fantasy, Horror, Action, and some thriller/mystery movies are great as well. I’m going to list my top ten favorite horror movies.
Mind you, I watch foreign movies alot. Please don’t discredit them, as I find some of them to be more scream-worthy and edge of my seat than American horror.
TRIGGER WARNING: there is an image of a doll and an image of an Asian woman crawling out of a portrait. There is also an image with a sawed off foot and hand (it is for a movie cover). Also, a few curse words. But this is overall PG to PG 13. I just want to make sure my readers know.
1. Muoi: Legend of a Portrait.
Muoi is number one on my list because no matter how many times I go back to watch it, I still end up screaming and jumping. Sometimes at different parts than the watch before. It’s a mindfuck (excuse the language please) and a half and it is always keeping you guessing. The first time I watched it, I found it very interesting as well as scary. It was able to keep my attention the entire way through, with very little “cliche” moments (in my opinion.) It is spoken in Korean and set in Korea and Vietnam. Muoi movie trailer (I could not find one with English subtitles, I apologize for that)
Yun-hee, a South Korean writer, is under pressure by her editor to produce something of interest for her next book. She hasn’t had a book published in three years and is all too cognizant of this fact. Things look up when her old friend Seo-yeon calls from Vietnam. Seo-Yeon informs Yun-hee about a local Vietnamese folklore centered around a girl named “Mười” and her haunted portrait. It just so happens that in Yun-hee’s prior novel, she wrote a semi-autobiographical tale concerning her friends titled “Secrets & Lies”. In the book Seo-Yeon was portrayed in the most horrible manner, but Yun-hee is sure that Seo-Yeon hasn’t read the book as she has been living in Vietnam for years. Yun-hee eagerly flies to Vietnam to learn more about Muoi.
2. The Ring series
When I was young, the first Ring movie came to America. I remember for weeks having thoughts that the girl was going to crawl out of my television and attack me. It was so bad (because I had a very overactive imagination) that I would not go to sleep if the TV was not covered or if it was on. Thankfully today I do not have such a fear, even though I still sleep with my TV set either covered or turned around. The Ring had many cliche moments and jump scares for a horror movie, but I was young when they first started coming to america and so it left an impression on me. It is still a favorite to come back to. It’s kind of a well known movie series, but I’ll still put the synopsis and a link to a trailer in here for anyone who has never seen them and is interested. The Ring movie trailer
A disturbing videotape appears to hold the power of life and death over those who view it in this offbeat thriller. A strange videotape begins making the rounds in a town in the Pacific Northwest; it is full of bizarre and haunting images, and after watching it, many viewers receive a telephone call in which they are warned they will die in seven days. A handful of teenagers who watched the tape while spending a weekend at a cabin in the mountains scoff at the threat, but as predicted, they all die suddenly on the same night. Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts), the aunt of one of the ill-fated teens, is a journalist who has decided to investigate the matter and travels West with her young son, Aidan (David Dorfman), a troubled child who has been drawing pictures of strange and ominous visions. Rachel managed to find the cabin in the woods and watches the video herself; afterward, she receives the same phone call, and realizes she must solve the puzzle of the video and the person or persons behind it within a week. Rachel turns to her ex, Noah (Martin Henderson), an expert in video technology, who at first is convinced the story is a hoax until he digs deeper into the mystery. The Ring was adapted from a 1996 Japanese film by Hideo Nakata, which became a massive box-office success in Asia and spawned two sequels.
3. The Nightmare on Elm Street series
A beloved classic horror movie from my childhood as well as possibly my brothers. I never tired of watching about Freddie and trying to figure out how to defeat him. I never really worried about if he would attack me or not (despite that overly large imagination previously stated) because I knew he was fiction. This series may have been the first mindfuck (I think I made a pun?) that I can truly remember watching. And I’ll still rewatch every single one. I still quote Freddy sometimes. “Welcome to my world, Bitch.” Very iconic line for me.
4. Thirteen Ghosts
This may not have been a very well received movie at its time of debut, but it has since become a classic. I think the ghost that scared me the most was the Jackel (I think that is the crazy one with the metal cage on its head.) I have watched it many times and still enjoy it. Thirteen Ghosts trailer
Financially ravaged and widowed by a fire that is consuming him with guilt, Arthur Kriticos (Tony Shalhoub) is left to raise two kids on his own: beautiful teenager Kathy (Shannon Elizabeth) and grade school student Bobby (Alec Roberts). Good news suddenly drops into their lives when a lawyer visits and reveals that they have inherited a lavish home from a late uncle, Cyrus (F. Murray Abraham), an eccentric ghost hunter. The Kriticos family moves into the remote house only to discover its odd secret: the dwelling contains a state-of-the-art, elaborate system of moving glass walls that trap spirits inside. Soon the ghosts, which can only be seen through the use of special high-tech spectacles, are loose in the elaborate contraption and are none too thrilled about their predicament. With the exits sealed, the family members try to learn the secret of Uncle Cyrus' bizarre mansion and survive supernatural assaults with the help of sassy housekeeper Maggie (Rah Digga), neurotic psychic Rafkin (Matthew Lillard), and Kalina (Embeth Davidtz), an activist championing the civil rights of ghosts. The eyeglasses through which the spirits can be viewed in Thirteen Ghosts (2001) were part of a ballyhoo gimmick involving pairs of spectacles handed out to audiences for screenings of the 1960 original, which was presented in "Illusion-O."
5. Resident Evil
Some may not consider Resident Evil horror, but I do. Among other things such as sci-fi and action, Resident Evil was very scary to me as a child when it came out first. I keep this movie series close to my heart as the most realistic zombie apocalypse series that I have seen. The very last Resident Evil live action movie just came out a few months ago and I went to see it on opening day. It was really amazing and finally we found out the whole story from beginning to end. I will rewatch this series for as long as I am able to. Resident Evil trailer
Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez star as Alice and Rain, two members of a commando team assigned to infiltrate the Hive, an underground research laboratory owned by the faceless conglomerate known as the Umbrella Corporation. A bio-engineered virus has been released into the maze-like Hive, turning the facility's employees into mindless, flesh-eating zombies. A single scratch or bite from one of these rampaging ghouls dooms its victim, so the commandos have their work cut out for them as they attempt to reach the Red Queen, the lab's supercomputer -- and their sole hope of halting the spread of the contagion. Before they can complete their mission, however, the soldiers must overcome a variety of deadly obstacles, including mutant dogs, lasers, and a genetically altered beast known as The Licker, whose strength increases with every victim it slays. Alice and Rain also discover that the release of the virus may not have been an accident, and that a cure may exist somewhere in the deadly Hive.
6. White: Melody of Death
This movie was a great one, and three watches in I still haven’t figured it out. It is sort of a horror-mystery I guess. I don’t know much to say about this one except to go watch it yourself. White trailer
Pop band Pink Dolls emerges to stardom after releasing a remake of “White,” written by an anonymous composer. The more popular the members become, however, the more they become torn by jealousy and rivalries. But as the girls each take turns to become the lead vocalist, mysterious incidents occur.
7. Annabelle
Scary movie about a doll. Based off of a true story. I can’t really say too much about this one, other than it had me on the edge of my seat and screaming a few times. Even got my brother, who is harder to scare than me.
8. Saw
This may be more of a thriller than an outright horror, but the Saw series left me with nightmares for months after I watched each movie. Even as an adult. They are amazing mindfucks and I was always scared I would wake up in one of Jigsaw’s traps.
9. A Haunting in Connecticut
Sort of self explanatory. I Believe in the supernatural and have always been scared of moving into a place like the home in this movie or having something horrible happen to me that I can’t explain. There will be no movie picture for this one.
10. Final Destination
The fact that this movie kills off people with things that could possibly happen in every day life and not some random murderer or supernatural force is what scared me about this one. To this day I will still not go near a logging truck if I can help it, nor will I go on a roller coaster that has loops in it.

Dear Mark: Iron Followup
Last week’s post on iron levels got a big response and garnered a ton of questions from you guys. Today, I’m going to clarify a few things and answer as many questions as I can. First, do iron and ferritin levels mean different things for men and women? If so, how do those differences manifest? What about premenopausal women vs postmenopausal women? Second, what do we make of the fact that ferritin is also increased in times of inflammation? Is there a way to distinguish between elevated ferritin caused by inflammation and elevated ferritin caused by high iron? Third, is desiccated liver a good option for liver haters? And finally, I share some exciting plague news.
Let’s go:
Emma wrote:
I’d love to see more info on iron levels as they relate to men and women differently. I recently had an iron infusion for low ferretin, not thinking much would change I actually experienced so many positive effects I didn’t even know were coming my way. I’m less cold, no more afternoon fatigue, less hair falling out, no more random palpitations, improved restless leg syndrome and the number one big change is it improved anxiety levels – in fact my anxiety is now gone. The last two are due to a connection between iron and dopamine. I learnt that children with mental health issues are often treated for low ferretin where possible, elevating levels to around 100 showing positive results (would love to see literature on this), for me my ferretin went from 20 to 130 and its changed my life, at 31 I haven’t felt this good in years. Yay iron!
That’s awesome to hear. Yes, it’s important to stress the very basic essentiality of iron. Without it, we truly cannot produce energy. And since energy is the currency for everything that happens in the body, an iron deficiency makes everything start to fall apart.
As for gender and iron, there’s a lot to discuss.
A good portion of women with hemochromatosis never actually express it phenotypically, meaning their lab tests don’t show evidence of dysregulated iron metabolism or storage. According to one study of hemochromatosis homozygotes (people who inherited the mutation from both of their parents), being a woman makes it 16x more likely that your hereditary hemochromatosis won’t actually present as iron overload.
Another study found that among mostly-age-matched men (42 years) and women (39 years) with hemochromatosis, 78% of the men had iron overload while just 36% of the women had it. Iron overload was defined as transferrin saturation over 52% combined with ferritin levels of 300 ng/mL for men and 200 ng/mL for women.
High iron levels are more of an issue for postmenopausal women than premenopausal women. The latter group regularly sheds blood through menstruation, and if anything, they’re at a higher risk of low iron. Plus, estrogen is a key regulator of iron metabolism. As menopause sets in and estrogen diminishes, that regulation suffers.
For instance:
In postmenopausal Korean women, high ferritin levels predict metabolic syndrome and subclinical atherosclerosis.
High ferritin predicts metabolic syndrome in postmenopausal but not premenopausal women.
In premenopausal Korean women, higher ferritin levels predict better bone mineral density; menopause nullifies this relationship.
Remember that ferritin is actually a measurable protein bound to iron, so testing a ferritin level is technically an indirect way to measure iron. Why is this important? Another characteristic of ferritin (the protein) is that it is an ACUTE PHASE REACTANT. This means that ferritin levels can fluctuate with illnesses and other inflammatory states in the body that drive up a ferritin value that is not related to an actual iron level fluctuation. Don’t get ferritin checked when you are sick with a cold or other illness.
This is a great point.
Ferritin is marker of long term iron storage, but it’s also an acute phase reactant that up regulates in response to inflammation or oxidative stress.
If you want to be really careful, you should get a HS-CRP test—that measures your overall inflammatory status. If CRP is elevated, ferritin can be elevated without saying anything about your iron status.
Come to think of it, if elevated ferritin can be a marker of inflammation and oxidative stress, the inflammation could be responsible for some of the negative health effects linked to high ferritin. Or, if having too much iron in the body can increase oxidative damage, it may be that high iron levels are increasing inflammation which in turn increases ferritin even further. Biology gets messy. Lots of feedback loops. However, the fact that many studies cited in the previous iron post that use blood donation to treat high ferritin have positive results indicates that for most people, ferritin can be, in most situations, an accurate estimation of your iron status.
To make sure it’s an iron problem, get a transferrin saturation test as well. That indicates the amount of iron you’re absorbing, with below 20% being low and over 45% being high. People with high ferritin and high transferrin saturation do have high iron levels. People whose ferritin is artificially enhanced by inflammation will have normal transferrin saturation levels.
I have one last question on this. You say “Don’t stop eating liver every week.” If you can’t stand the taste of liver, what do you think about taking liver capsules made from grass-fed New Zealand beef every day instead?
That’s a great option. Go for it.
People should generally aim for 4-8 ounces of fresh liver a week. Note the amount of desiccated liver in your capsules and multiply by 3 to get the fresh liver equivalent, then take enough each day (or all at once) to hit 4-8 ounces over the week. I hear good things about this one.
Mark, Thank you for your article on HH. I carry the gene but have been managing my iron levels through phlebotomies. I am full Keto, meat and all and have found my iron levels have not been effected by going Keto. Early detection is the key and ongoing monitoring. Bring on the plague!!!
You joke about that now, but there’s a startup that’s breeding heritage rat fleas that produce a mild strain of the plague that evades the attention of the immune system and proliferates throughout the body to keep iron levels in check without killing you. I’m an early investor, have a couple swarms installed in my condo, and (knock on wood) so far have avoided anything worse than a sore throat and maybe a mild open sore or two. There’s actually a big rift forming between the techs who want to keep the fleas heritage and those who want to go ahead with CRISPR and engineer them. One variant has had a deer tick gene inserted that adds an anesthetic compound to the flea’s saliva. That way you can have a personal swarm on you and never feel any bites or itches.
I’m not sure about CRISPR just yet, but I gotta say it’s pretty nice to be covered in fleas and not feel the bites. Time will tell.
Ok, I’m joking.
That’s it for today, folks. I hope I’ve answered some of your concerns, and if not, let me know down below. Thanks for reading!
