#sentence structure is my greatest foe atm and unfortunately that *is* the last chapter in the grammar ๐

accountability-posting week 1
making my way slowly through my student grammar of chinese: went back through all the sections I'd lazily stuck a post-it in to mark new information, and made notes on that in a notebook in the hopes that writing it out will let me retain one single fact (I knew about ไธ/ไธ tone changes for a glorious ten minutes but they might already be gone again). I think it's good for me to write things out by hand occasionally - definitely reveals to me that I rely a lot on skritter not recognising a stroke to tell me 'oh, not that character for yi'
read the chapter on modal verbs
read a du chinese text from the upper intermediate section and mostly knew what was going on apart from a couple of vocab terms. kept thinking of the monkeys in ๆไธๆฎๅ as horrible little Marquis Xies, which was fun for me
I'm also keeping up with my skritter cards pretty well at the moment - am largely up-to-date on (old) HSK 1-4, learning a bit of HSK 5 vocab each day, and trying to conquer the niche vocab mountain of mang-ya bang
my plan for the next few weeks/possibly months is to work through the grammar book, because, while a bit too For Linguists in places, it it plugging that gap of 'I've picked up from context roughly how this concept works but what's the actual system here?' nicely
#accountability checkin#it *is* very exciting for me that I can mostly muddle through du chinese's upper intermediate texts#with only a bit of 'wait *how* are these clauses causally related?' and some minor vocab woes#sentence structure is my greatest foe atm and unfortunately that *is* the last chapter in the grammar ๐
but I'll get there eventually
