I'm in the US, and a battleground state every election (WI) and without a doubt the two party system is not going to bring about true systemic change. It's busted, so I focus on my state. The people here, my community, they are the ones I want to care for and protect and rely on.

When I saw the results today, I remembered that there is enormous strength in unions, protests, in the people that are my neighbors and who sit in local government positions. They have to listen when we speak, and I take a lot of solace in knowing just because one enormous popularity contest hasn't come out in my favor again (for the second, third time?) I will not be complicit in creating any sort of dystopia. I'm not privileged enough to have any means of escape, and I don't find any peace in considering running from the fire that I was complicit in starting.

There is plenty to be afraid of, and I am. Today we don't have to be brave, we can mourn, plan, and embrace each other and our communities to find strength. Power to the people.
