sometimes i think about an idea for 40000 yrs and other times i get this random blurb when im trying to teach fractions and then write it that same day lol.

Nail Polish

 They’re out running errands and the pharmacy is the last place they need to go. Edward takes the long way, going down a few extra aisles, in case there are any specials on things he might need. Étienne doesn’t mind and follows him around, pushing the cart. Edward’s busy looking at different cans of shaving cream on the other side of the aisle, when something catches Étienne’s eye.

 He pushes the cart a little ways ahead and casually looks at what it was his eyes had fallen on; a large display of sparkly, brightly coloured nail polish. It’s a new brand, from the looks of it, and the pharmacy seems to carry a large quantity of bottles from the classic colours to neon and everything in between.

 He doesn’t reach out for any, but he lets his eyes roam over the bottles, his hands firm on the cart, grasping it in place. The sparkly ones sure do look sparkly and he briefly wonders what the colour would look like on his nails and would the overall effect please him.

 “See anything you like?”

 Étienne jumps, having momentarily forgotten about Edward and gives him an apologetic smile, “No, no,” He says, casually, as he makes a motion to keep on down the aisle, “Just looking around.”

 Edward quirks an eye at his boyfriend and looks at the display behind him, “Oh, nail polish! Nice,” He says as if it is the most normal thing in the world to say, “Were you thinking of getting any?” The question is posed in an easy way that should be reassuring for Étienne, but it still sends a sliver of worry ricocheting through his body.

 It’s been years.

 Decades.

 And yet.

 “Oh – no, I mean – it’s nail polish. I don’t – with painting and all – I don’t wear any.” He babbles on nervously and Étienne knows that Edward knows that something is up and that he’s done a terrible attempt at playing it cool and casual. Edward gives him a look as if to say “did you forget that I do drag regularly and that I could care less if you decided to paint your nails” and Étienne fidgets on the spot.

 He wishes his feelings weren’t quite such a complicated mess. It’s been years now – a lifetime really, but the ghost of Petite Marie still haunts him despite his progress. Still, he needs to remember that he has made progress. He’s been – letting his hair grow out and he rather likes the way it looks. It’s past his shoulders and he absolutely loves putting it up in buns or letting it down to kiss his shoulders. Edward seems to really like it as well and he’s not about to complain about that.

 There was a time when make-up and nail polish were part of his routine, when skirts and dresses and high-heeled shoes had been second nature to him, but that had been a long time ago. There are still alleyways he can’t walk by anymore. It’s still raw and fresh to him. Too raw and fresher still. He still flinches when he touches bricks and there are mental wounds that simply do not seem to go.

 But – he has to admit that he does have a few blouses he found in the women’s department and he looks fantastic in them; so, he’ll take his wins where he can, if he must.

 However, there’s the issue of the nail polish.

 “El has a whole friggin Instagram dedicated to her nail art. It is a work of wonders and seeing her posts – kind of – I don’t know – made me wonder... if I could. On a purely artistic viewpoint.” He’s not sure whom he’s trying to convince, but Edward certainly isn’t buying his fib. (For the record, Élyse does have an Instagram account dedicated to her nail art. She does fabulous things to her nails, really.)

 “You know, it’s okay if you want to wear nail polish. I certainly won’t judge. Hell, I might even ask you to do mine if you’re any good at it.”

 Edward offers him a kind smile and all Étienne can do is blink as his mind short circuits and his soul has a minor apoplexy. He wish he could just – act like a normal person at times and not still be stuck on these issues from a past no one else remembers or cares about, but instead his mind is on over drive and he feels his heart rate pick up at the thought of bringing the bottle to the checkout line and then purchasing it.

 “I know – it’s just, still a lot.” He shrugs and tries to play it off as nothing, but he seems to forget that Edward knows him – that he knows about all that – that they’ve talked about this and so Edward places a comforting hand on his and gives it a squeeze. Étienne lets out a breath he hadn’t realised he’d been holding and he feels a little bit better.

 “It doesn’t have to be today. If you get it, that’s fine. If you don’t, that’s fine as well. Either way, you have my support.”

 Étienne nods and they spend the next few minutes standing in the aisle as Étienne does indeed think about. He’d like to just reach out and take a colour he likes, but the task seems Herculean, even if he thinks he’s being silly. (He’s not, he’s not, he’s not.)

 “I think – maybe, - not today.” He finally says. He waits for the disappointment to show on Edward’s face, but his boyfriend gives his hand another squeeze and then nods, simple as that.

 “Then not today it is.”

 They slowly make their way towards the next aisle and Edward picks up the conversation from where they left off. Étienne knows he’s doing it to keep his mind from the nail polish and for that, Étienne is eternally grateful.

 Edward doesn’t bring up the nail polish incident and Étienne quite honestly ends up forgetting about it. Life goes on, activities resume, and days turn into weeks and then weeks into months.

 Étienne happens to be back in town, on a short trip to spend some quality time with his boyfriend that they had both been looking forward to. Edward had told him to get settled, while he finished putting the laundry to dry and so Étienne had started taking a few things out of his luggage, reclaiming his side of the bed, when he notices a little something addressed to him on the night table.

 He takes the bottle and the card and allows himself a soft chuckle. He recognises the bottle as one of the shades of nail polish he had been eyeing that other time and the card simply says, “Whenever you’re ready.”

 He places the card in the middle of his sketchbook for safekeeping and then goes off to find his boyfriend, bottle of polish in hand, suddenly feeling bold and brave and inspired.

Cheek to Cheek

I recently started to sing on weddings and bar mitzvah’s as an extra job (my cousin is Jewish and she introduced me to most of the Jewish songs, but the majority are English anyway)and I just keep on having this one scenario pop up in my mind and I have to share it. Let’s say you’re booked for another wedding and it seems to be some fancy wedding as they send you the song list way earlier than the others do and press the matter, which is normal because people want it to be the best day ever and honestly if the music sucks it just ruins the day, but they insist that you meet up with them 2 months before the wedding with all the songs you plan on singing and then again 3 weeks before their big day. You do this because they actually are a sweet couple and they pay you more than you usually get, but it’s a bit annoying, because you are aware that they want everything to be perfect. That’s why it is very odd that someone calls you 2 weeks before the big day and tells you she is the maid of honor and has a special gift for the couple and she needs you to rehearse the female part to a duet of cheek to cheek. You agree and say it is on your song list anyway the woman who calls you emphasizes that she needs a duet version because the gift is also the guy who’ll sing the male part, the whole thing being some kind of inside joke. You do as you’re told and even send her your verses in an email so your mysterious duet partner knows how you imagined it. You have this gut feeling that it will be someone famous, given as the couple is somewhat famous or at least well known as well, you also hope that you’ll be able to stay professional and not mess up if it turns out to be a celebrity you like. Their big day comes and of course you start off with the regular, some horah songs a few swing and jazz songs and just before the main course is served you announce that the maid of honor has something to say, just like she asked you to. She walks up the little stage and you step aside straightening the skirt of your dress, “David and Jenn, also all you other people, I remember a day in February 2014 when Jenn made us watch Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, I also remember that she claimed that on her wedding day this song needed to be sung, but only one person was allowed to sing the Fred part. Well I know you forgot this little talk, okay we all know you didn’t Jenn, you never forget things, you were probably too embarrassed to ask a friend for a favor, but you’re lucky that you have your maid of honor” you can see the bride’s face turning bright red and all the guests chuckle, apparently she remembered a lot (?) you still have no clue who would sing with you. The damn maid of honor, Linda, thought you might tell them (yeah right because you have nothing better to do) “ without further ado, I present Harry styles and y/n!” You concentrate really hard to seem calm and collected, but you honestly are on the verge of crying, vomiting and fainting. You are about to meet Harry Styles and not only that, you are also about to sing with him. You take a deep breath and drink some water before taking a mic and getting ready, but Harry seems to want to say something “David and Jenn, I’m more than happy to sing this song for you, I wouldn’t know a couple who fit this song more perfectly than you two, and no David not because you are short!-” again laughter everywhere “I hope you enjoy it. Also thanks Jenn for having a crush on me, if the whole marriage thing doesn’t work out you know where to find me” he concludes wiggling his eyebrows. Then suddenly, it’s not actually suddenly but you are a little startled, the music starts to play and the song starts. The way Harry’s voice sounds in real life actually makes your knees weak, what hits you the most tho is how well he does the whole duet thing. If you didn’t know better, you do obviously you’d think that he is flirting with you. You are more than thrilled and also proud of yourself that the whole thing worked out perfectly. Your voices harmonized well and you didn’t mess up. After your little performance the main course is served. You are sitting with the band,some background music from a playlist usually plays while everyone eats, and eat the amazing food having a blast, but not saying too much as you need your voice. The break you get for eating is 30 minutes, which you are totally fine with. You are just about to enter the bathroom to freshen up when you feel a hand on your arm. You turn around swiftly ready to either answer a question or fend off the drunk uncle, when you come face to face with Harry. You raise your eyebrow as the curly haired man in front of you hasn’t said anything yet “You have a beautiful voice” he compliments you in an almost boyish way but the nonchalance and charm this boy possesses intrigue you. “Thank you, you’re not too bad of a singer yourself. I’d work a bit on the timing, but other than that you’re fine.” You say the second half in a sarcastic joke and pray that he gets it, otherwise it’d be majorly awkward, and he does get it and lets out a short laugh that makes butterflies erupt in your stomach and a smile spread on your face. You feel like this is all the talk you’ll get with Harry and you don’t want it to end. His reactions to compliments are too cute and you like the feeling you get when he looks at you, even though you know that boy looks like he’s flirting whenever he looks at someone, so just to say something, you hate silence if you don’t know a person well enough, you say “I liked singing with you. I think we did quite well together” he looks deeper into your eyes his face forming into that half smirk and he answers “so did I. Has anyone told you you look beautiful today?” You know it is a rhetoric question and his way to tell you he thinks you look beautiful, but also why would anyone tell the singer at a wedding she looked beautiful when she was a 7 with a lot of make up? You feel more confident and ask back “has anyone told you you’re quite the charmer?” and step closer to him. The tension is tangible and Harry closes the gap between the two of you pulling you closer to him and crashes his lips into yours. The kiss is full of lust but also playful and sweet and it stays a kiss as you part when you hear Eric look for you, your break being over. You part from Harry and give him a soft kiss just to taste him again, feeling bold for once. You walk passed him and yet again he stops you by grabbing your arm leaning close to you and whispering “when are you done?” you tell him that you’re free to go after midnight and he nods and asks you to meet him here then. After you’re done you take your bag and some of the cake and walk back to the hallway you kissed Harry in earlier that day. You wait a few minutes eating the cake and thinking that he might have forgotten you were supposed to meet up or just not being interested in you when he appears one more button open revealing more of his chest and more of the tattoos you want to trace. He takes a bite from your cake and gives you a kiss. You can’t believe how comfortable he is around you, it honestly amazes you “would it be weird if I asked you to come home with me?” Harry even seems a bit shy. As if anyone would say no to Harry, in this moment tho you contemplate saying ‘no’. Not because you don’t want to spend time with, you really do, but because going home means sex and although you imagined having sex and even losing your virginity to Harry you’re not so sure you really want to do it. He’s even sweeter than you thought and you decide to just straight up say what you think “I’d like to go home with you.” Your tone was sweet and friendly your worries about what could happen at his place not noticeable. You decide to deal with the matter if it comes to that. The ride to where he is staying is filled with kisses and touching. After a few sweet kisses the mood switches and it turns into a make up session in the backseat. You are touching his torso, gripping his biceps for support while practically straddling him. His hands are on your thighs holding you while simultaneously massaging them. Once inside you part from him afraid it would just lead to sex, it looks like that was what’s next so you speak up “Harry… I can’t.. I’m.. y'know. I haven’t..” You desperately try to explain and he seems to understand. “Oh! It’s fine. We don’t have to do anything” His face holds surprise “You seemed like you had, but that’s not why I brought you here anyway.” he adds. Now you raise your eyebrow in a sorta challenging way. Sure he is nice, he’s Harry styles he is the king of nice, but why would he bring you here if not for sex. “Really?” You ask. “Really. I obviously don’t know you at all, but something about you makes me want to get to know you!” You smile at his answer and sit down with him on the couch. The rest of the night is spend talking and kissing, with a late night snack included, you two are actually getting along exceptionally and you are so glad you sang at this wedding. A few years later Harry takes the mic and says “I want to sing a song for the love of my life. Y/N I love you and my heart beats so that I can hardly breathe when we’re out together dancing cheek to cheek.” He quotes the song before actually singing the verses to which you first met.

I got a bit carried away. Also I typed this on my phone and it has probably 40000 mistakes, grammar wise and tense wise in it, but I needed to share it. Love you my Wendy xxx
