Semper Fi | [1/8]
Dr. Jack Abbot x f!doctor!reader
| Next
Summary: You’re the ray of sunshine to Jack’s rain cloud. What do they say about opposites attracting?
[ Series Masterlist ]
Note: dipping my toes into writing for jack. i kinda love him and his dynamic with this reader, so that’s why there’s a question mark referencing the number of parts this will have. will likely be writing more for them.
(Semper Fi from the Latin “Semper Fidelis” meaning always faithful, which is the motto for the U.S. Marine Corps, but I also feel like it perfectly encapsulates his character)
starts roughly two years before The Pitt, making Ellis a PGY2 and Shen a PGY3 (also Langdon & Collins a PGY2, Mohan a PGY1/intern, and McKay & Mel would still be in med school, MS4). I also refer to the year by R#, meaning Resident Year#.
Word Count: 1.6k
Most of my works are 18+ due to adult language and content
Warnings: age gap (it feeds me/reader is late 20s, Jack is late 40s), foul language, people being bad at dealing with their feelings (…Jack), trauma, hospital setting, medical inaccuracies, sunshine/grumpy dynamic, angst, mild gore relating to patients, death mentions, mild suicide ideation/jokes
not beta read
You rolled in from out of town like a spring day, warm and sweet. Jack Abbot really had no idea what to think of you at the start, assessing you silently — it had to be youthful optimism. It had to be. You were likely closer to half his age and only had a few years as an attending under your belt, with a persona that oozed family medicine or pediatrics.
How the hell did you end up in emergency medicine? He knew that whatever hospital you had come from, the Pitt would beat the cheery right out of you.
Just one shift and all your sweet smiles and doe eyes would sour.
It rattled him that you did not. Not even after your first week. Not even when your gloves and gown were soaked in the blood of a car crash victim, or when the trauma room was loud with a little girl screaming, or when you told the parents of a ten year-old-boy that he was dying. You walked out of Trauma-1 with a long sigh and then continued on about your day — like exiting back into the main area had reset something inside you.
Give it a few years, he thought bitterly.
Hearing your laugh echo through the halls of the ED sent alarm bells ringing throughout his system — how the hell were you laughing? What were you even laughing at?
Aside from the handful of conversations you had had together regarding patient care, you had not said much to him. Perhaps one of the nurses had advised you to steer clear of him, worried his no-nonsense, rigid exterior would rub off on you. It was clear as day to see most of the staff enjoyed having you on nights with them.
You moved with purpose throughout the ED, checking on several of your patients before moving to the charge desk to do charting, or scribble notes. He had to hand it to you, you were efficient, despite your soft edges.
The charge nurse on nights, Bridget, was talking to you quietly when he walked by, glancing up at the board. The lull was rare, like the quiet before the storm, and he found it interesting that you took time to enjoy it. He was brutal efficiency, checking crash carts and restocking, never letting himself grow idle.
He looked back at you, “Gonna chit-chat all day?”
Your eyes found his and you only blinked, unfazed by his tone. “Everything alright, Dr. Abbot?”
He frowned before gesturing to the board, crossing his arms over his chest.
“Don’t mind him, he’s always like that.” Said Bridget, with a simple shrug.
You only smiled at him before turning your attention back to Bridget. You picked up a tablet, focused more on that than on Bridget, but you nodded along as she told you about her son’s most recent football game, still clearly engaged.
He minded his tone when he directed you to the ambulance bay to help with a GSW victim being wheeled in. You assessed the man quickly, moving alongside the gurney into Trauma 1. You made quick work of it, paging surgery and ordering a handful of tests, before putting your hands to work.
Jack nearly sighed in relief, knowing he would not have to hand hold — the last thing he needed was an attending who he needed to keep an eye on. He knew he would do it anyway — perhaps it was the military in him, constantly taking in input of his surroundings, never allowing himself to miss anything.
How you guided Dr. Shen with an echocardiogram to show pericardial effusion and allowed him to drain the fluid. Or how you handed tough cases to Dr. Ellis to help her learn while you stood ever vigilant by her side. Or when you sat with the intern, Sullivan, through losing his first patient. He didn’t hear the advice you offered, but he noticed that Sullivan got back to work shortly thereafter, looking less miserable.
He realized that he still didn’t fully believe that you were a perfect fit for the ED, but you were a sound teacher.
—
Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, or the Pitt as you had come to learn, was a welcomed change in your life. You had completed your residency and two years as an attending at New York-Presbyterian. You hadn’t fully intended to leave New York entirely, you just needed to get out of there — there was hardly any thought as to where you would end up.
Administration had needed you mostly on nights, which had not been your preference, but you didn’t argue. You took in your new workplace quickly, engaging with your new co-workers and trying to put your best foot forward whenever you clocked in.
While the Pitt was no less chaotic than the ED in New York, there was a particular restlessness you had begun to notice as the weeks ticked on. A never ending stream of patients, short-staffing and bad coffee seemed to weigh heavily on the ED, like it could never quite catch its breath.
The chief attending on your shifts, Dr. Abbot, took some adjusting to. He was nothing like the asshole at your last ED, but he usually had an stony, unreadable look on his face. You had never seen him crack a smile, and his gaze was more intimidating than you had expected. He had a habit of staring — not inappropriately, just assessing, just watching. Constantly observing the ED, patients, the board, you. It was not unkind, per se, but his eyes frequently held a heaviness that most backed away from — but instead of intimidating you, something instead took root in your gut.
You never took his demeanor to heart — he had been in the ED a long time, and with his calculated and calm practiced ease in which he operated, you suspected military training. The way he held himself, the way he moved, the way he demanded attention as soon as he stepped into a room did little to deter that thought.
The annoying little flutter made itself known every time you met his gaze in the weeks that followed, or when his hand met yours over a patient. It was frankly elementary, a stupid work crush — he was so much older, and he was your chief attending. Hardly appropriate. You still barely knew him, so it was easy enough to shove the feeling aside and work.
After one of the longer shifts where you had stayed an extra hour due to a hard to stabilize trauma, you wandered up to the roof. You had just intended to catch some air before returning to your apartment.
Just have a moment of solace to clear your clouded mind.
You were surprised to find you were not alone, looking across the roof to see Dr. Abbot. He was beyond the safety railing, overlooking the city, and a worry invaded your insides. Like in most things, he was just quietly looking over the city with a detached look in his eyes — not quite serious, but not entirely healthy.
You supposed this was how he dealt with a particularly gruesome shift. The topic of your own mortality was never a light one, but you could see how one might find comfort in the reminder of it. You liked to look at the sky, be reminded that life continues on, the world keeps spinning.
“So, you come here often?” You asked, startling him.
He turned to look at you, his eyes hard, “Do you?”
You shrugged with a smile, “I like to watch the sunrise.”
Abbot’s narrowed eyes held on you for several moments, before he turned back to the city, “Just spent the last hour and a half coding that kid…”
“I was there,” you said, stepping closer to the bars while still giving him ample space. “We did everything we could.”
His eyes were on you again. Sharp. Intimidating. “How do you do that?”
You raised an eyebrow at him, “What?”
He sighed, putting his hands back into his pockets like he was removing as much of himself as he could. “I don’t even know why I do this anymore. This job.”
“Because it matters.” You told him, looking over to the sun rising on the horizon. “Because we’re good at it. Because they need us. Because we need it.” You shrugged lightly even though he wasn’t looking at you. “The little things keep me going, mostly.”
Silence encased you. Most of your mentors had called that nativity.
“You know, a little girl tried to give me her stuffed bear today.” You said, glancing at him. “Her mother was coding and she wanted to give the bear to me, for luck.”
A simple smile came over your features. The mother and daughter in question had been hit by a drunk driver earlier in your shift — the mother had come in critical, while the daughter had come out of it with only a few minor scrapes and bruises.
“And those little moments? They’re enough.”
You breathed in all the horrors you had seen before exhaling them, giving them to the wind. Your mind would always be haunted by the things you saw, but you did always try to focus on the good, on the things you could control.
You both stood there together for several minutes. His outlook was not likely to change, not over some pretty words when he had spent his entire career pushing it down, and you weren’t looking to change it. But the quiet now resting between you? It was warm. It was something that was seen, like a shred of light trickling through the darkness.
He came back from the edge and moved under the railing. You moved off the roof together, a quiet understanding finally settling between you.

In honor of Sinners (Part 1)
In honor of “Sinners” success at the box office, I thought I’d highlight other Black vampires in movies and television. Part one covers the first two appearances that I could find. If you know of others, let me know in the comments.
Nina Baden-Semper (1968)
Nina may very well be the first Black actor to play a vampire on television. She has had a long career on British TV. The Purple Playhouse was a British series which presented various horror stories. In its 1968 production of Dracula, Nina was cast as one of the vampire brides. Denholm Elliott played the Count. It’s available online and is pretty good.

Lincoln Kilpatrick (1971)
“Omega Man” is one of the trilogy of sci-fi movies Charlton Heston made. (The others are Planet of the Apes and Solent Green.) Omega Man was based on “I Am Legend” by Richard Matheson. After a devastating war, the world is in ruins. A pandemic has turned nearly all surviving humans into vampire-like creatures which Heston hunts and kills during the daylight hours. Lincoln Kilpatrick plays a member of a cult of creatures trying to kill Heston. (Vincent Price starred in the first movie adapted from the novel.)

This isn’t really a question but I just wanted to let you know that you made me fall in love with reading again. A few years ago you gave book rec for Kiki Clark and I gave it shot cause it was free lol and omg. I went from reading 2 or 3 full length five a year to like 200 books and getting involved in such wonderful communities too! Idk i was just thinking today about comfort authors and books i constantly reread (mine is the kincade pack books, like every 6 months lol) and i never would have found them without you. i hope you are doing well and continue to share you writing with the internet, and if you have anymore book recs i wouldn’t complain
;_; <3
This was such a nice message to wake up to this morning, thank you for it, genuinely. I know I can get a little obsessive when I'm really into something so I try not to annoy the masses but it's HARD when something gets me hype
I haven't read any new books in the past couple of months, I've been neck-deep into 9-1-1 fic since probably August, BUT I do have this page set up to showcase what I own physical copies of
Some of them are not very well-written but I found them compelling in one way or another. Compelling enough that I read them more than once, hence why I have the physical copy.
Some specific recs for stuff I really liked:
If you want fluff: Stella Starling's books, but I especially love the Semper Fi duology and the last book in the Delicious series, Promise, is one I think about a lot. It does feature characters from another book series but it shouldn't be too confusing, I think. It's all contemporary romance, but it's so cute, too <3
If you want something similar to the Kincaid Pack series: the Wolves of Kismet by Sam Burns is one of my favorites and they also have another series with WM Fawkes called Wolf Moon Rising.
If you want fluffy dark romance: Onley James, but specifically her Necessary Evils series. It has two different spin-off series, Jericho's Boys and The Watch. A new book just came out for the JB series which I haven't read yet but I'm looking forward to and the Watch series has a book coming out next month.
The Temptation series by Ella Frank, but listen to me: I URGE you to experience this one through the audiobooks. The narrator is amazing.
Another audiobook I love: the Quarterback by Mackenzie Blair. You can actually only find this one on audiobook anymore, but I do have this as a physical book, too, because my dad somehow found it available somewhere? idek how he achieved that but it's a great book and the guy who narrates this book is one of my favorites. I'll try just about anything if he's the one reading it.
Cole McCade is another author I think you should check out. Their prose is flowery and purple sometimes, but their characters are unique and interesting and very engaging. Criminal Intentions is a detective series, so the plot is heavy, but CM did write an AU of the characters where one owns a bakery and it's like a nice warm hug on a winter day. It's called Bitter + Sweet, I don't have time to link all the stuff I'm talking about, but I will link that.
OH. And last rec before I have to go back to work: Robin Moray!! They have an Omegaverse alien book which I love, a pack series of which the fourth one is my all-time favorite and the only one I usually reread, and under the name RJ Moray, they write the His Boy Next Door and Collar For His Brat series which is a long-running kink-focused series which I love.
And if you have any questions about any specific book on my shelf, feel free to ask! I love rambling about the stuff I read

Electric Sheep Chapter Seven- Semper Fi, Motherfucker

Shepard recruits Kal'Reegar to the crew, despite Miranda's wishes. Garrus does some reconnaissance. Side note: I love the hot American quarian.
pairing: Female Shepard/Garrus Vakarian
rating: Explicit
tags: Lovers to enemies to lovers, Slow Burn, Slow Build, Enemies to Lovers, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Minor Character Death, ,Violence, Blood and Gore, Torture, Disturbing Themes, Dual POV, Earthborn (Mass Effect), Ruthless (Mass Effect), Mass Effect 2, Whump, Eventual Smut, Requited Unrequited Love, Mind Control, Pining, so much fucking pining that even i'm a little disturbed, Hurt/Comfort, Dead Dove: Do Not Eat, OC Central, a kid show called the electromenom that teaches shepard about basic physics, yet another cliffhanger ending (sorry), second in series
cover: done by the stunning @/milkywayes!!!!!
lil text blurb:
“You heard what happened on Horizon?”
Kal shook his head. “Other than what the ice queen said earlier, no.”
“Yeah, that makes sense. I doubt you keep caught up with what’s going on in the galaxy all the way out here. Well, there was another Collector attack. A big one, this time. They’re saying close to ten thousand MIA. I was stationed planetside. I was almost one of them. My… Kaidan Alenko, you remember him, too? He was one of them.”
“He’s that L2 that was with you on the Citadel?” he asked. Shepard nodded, ashamed that she felt the prickle of tears in her eyes. Except around Kal, she didn’t feel like she needed to mask it. “That’s a shame. I always thought he was easy on the eyes.”
“I think he’s probably dead,” Shepard said. “Except Cerberus thinks there’s a chance he’s alive. I almost… I think I’d almost prefer if he was dead like the rest of them. I don’t like thinking about what he’s going through if he were alive.”
“That’s what you and Vakarian are doing with them?” he said.
“That’s at least what I’m doing. Him… I can’t seem to get a good read on his motivations just yet.”
“You guys acted like a couple in all those interviews you gave two years ago. I always assumed--”
“Yeah. I think I did, too,” said Shepard. She sniffed once, her lip twitching, absolutely refusing to look in Garrus’s direction.

Ked's right, I do have book recs that you can find under this tag and also some on my writing blog here. I also have a page here where you can see what's on my bookshelf, but you can't filter it because Tumblr doesn't allow Java anymore >__>
I wouldn't call that page a rec list, though, it's just an inventory of what I own or what's on my list to own. Some of those books are objectively terrible and I will freely admit that, but there was something about them compelling enough that I read them more than once.
I didn't mean for the below to turn into me just reccing you authors but it kind of turned into that, so here are authors I would recommend:
Onley James - I love her so much that I support her Patreon. All of her stuff is good (and loosely connected) but my favorites are, of course, the Necessary Evils series. It has two spin-off series which I also very much enjoy: Jericho's Boys & The Watch. All three series surround the psychopaths in love trope, however Jericho's Boys and the first book in the Watch series do not feature it as a main trope because neither of the main characters fit the bill. Most of them do feature some level of kink, though.
Kiki Clark - Her main series is werewolves (but no Omegaverse) and it's called the Kincaid Pack. The first book is my favorite, but I own them all. It's finished and she's starting a new series in that 'verse, the prequel to which I think is The Mobster's Mate, which is so up my alley it's like someone was spying on me. She also has a MC/kink series called Leather & Chrome that's good, but it's not my favorite kink series. (Kiki also have other contemporary books that I love, I just don't want this to get too long)
SPEAKING of kink. Robin (RJ) Moray - She has a series called His Boy Next Door that gay-awakening, age gap, and BDSM-related. It has a spin-off series about two other characters called A Collar For His Brat, both are excellent. The only thing is in HBND, the main character's name is Channon and that took some getting used to. Robin also has other books which I highly recommend--including a space Omegaverse story called Changed: Mated to the Alien Alpha, which is very good--she is probably my Top 3 favorite authors and the fact that more of her stuff isn't available in paperback is a source of constant misery for me.
Eliot Grayson -- The only person I can think of off the top of my head that writes well-written first person POV. The Mismatched Mates series is her main title iirc. It's a soul-bonding / "mate or die" situation at first and segues eventually into "mating for convenience." Some stories are related and some aren't.
Stella Starling -- if you like high fluff and low angst, this is the author for you. All of her stuff is contemporary and very cute. My favorite series is the Semper Fi one but I like & own them all.
Sam Burns (and Sam Burns w/ W.M. Fawkes) - They do anything fantasy/magic-related. Werewolves, urban fantasy, there's a series about the Greek Gods, etc. I haven't read ALL of their works, but the stuff I have read, I like. My favorites / the ones I own: Wolves of Kismet (Omegaverse), the Star-Marked Warrior series (sci-fi/aliens), & Wolf Moon Rising (Omegaverse).
Ella Frank (and Ella Frank w/ Brooke Blaine) - Contemporary writer(s) that specialize in writing multiple books for the same couple. There's a lot of gay/bi-awakening. The Temptation series is a fantastic audiobook journey that I cannot recommend enough, that narrator was amazing. I also really liked the first three Fallen Angel books are about the same couple and I love them, the fourth FA book is about a different couple and I DNFed it. Couldn't say why, it just didn't hold my interest.
...I have more, but I should probably work at some point this morning. So if you want more / want a specific rec for a specific trope or genre, lemme know!

You said you’re starting the Lewis arc soon. I wondered if you knew. Since the beginning of season 13 (ep 3 or 4 I believe) Olivia has had Elliot’s mini badge on her gun. He sent it to her with a note that read Semper fi. Unfortunately, the scene was deleted. Just a little SVU trivia.
I started it yesterday. I saw the deleted scene when it was first shared (I have yet to find a working link to it again these last few days though which really is annoying as I want to add deleted scene links to the excel I'm making). As I recall, it wasn't just the mini badge on her gun but also a necklace (one she tends to wear with the Joyful Heart foundation necklaces that is worn on the show). The necklace was a Semper Fi medallion while the mini badge ended up on the bottom of her service weapon (something we see a few times in fact in the Lewis arc). Personally, despite the canon statement of "haven't talked in 10 years" and what they are currently doing I like to think that given we SAW the mini badge WITHIN THE SHOW ITSELF that the deleted scene still happened. Along with that, I also like to imagine that Fin or Cragen (or both) worked to get it back for her post everything (likely working with Tucker in IAB because they may have gripes with him but at least he does strive for the truth). Part of why I like the scene itself (despite knowing it was removed because how long could she pine after him thinking) is that I think it actually helps her. We see her struggling in S13 to balance her reaction to being left - once more. Along with this, she's got Casey and Alex bouncing back into her life (are they gonna leave ... again?) ... of course she is going to struggle. Having something appear in the mail (probably with no solid return address at that) that is from Elliot ... giving her his badge and a Marine token? That means something. That says something. She's understand that message and know what it means ... he hasn't left HER ... he left the JOB. That would help her settle, help her calm, and we actually see that happening on the show - she actively begins to accept Amaro and Rollins about half way (really a quarter into) S13. I want that scene mentioned in one of the current episodes (could easily have her wearing the necklace and him notice, her shrug "well I gave the compass away figured I'd put this one on again") type thing.
Now, again, I could be wrong on what precisely she was given (i know the mini badge rather well given it reappears in the show, she wears so many necklaces though and they are hard to see I can't tell which one is which all the time) but either way ... the message being sent by him is the same. And I think it be so easy to bring that back with ease in the current series going on. Anyways this was long sorry ... I am aware. If you can't tell I thrived on that scene awhile back.

Hello. I’m a longtime fan and current author on the SCP wiki, and I wanted to say that your articles have been really important in shaping my headcanon and getting me to join the wiki.
I’ve been writing a Resurrection-adjacent series for a while, and while I included Sparkplug in one tale so far I want to use them more down the line. Do you have any advice when it comes to writing them or are there things you think I should have? Also, sort of related, but is Kitten augmented somehow or is she just Like That?
Watch a lot of military fiction. Band of Brothers, Generation Kill, Call of Duty, etc.
Sparkplug is kind of the opposite of those guys.
Not in the competency: they are extremely competent at what they do, but they didn't buy into the military moto hype. Bullfrog and Skunkboy both had prior military experience, and both of them quit because they couldn't stand the bullshit that comes with being in the military. Skunkboy especially, I think, couldn't fucking stand the whole Marine Corps Hoorah culture thing, which is why he uses "Semper Fi" like it's a swear word.
Do not imagine that this means that they won't fuck up your shit if they have to. But their primary mission is NOT to be the biggest badasses on the planet: their job is to go in, find out what the fuck is happening, and GET THE WORD OUT.
Now, most of the stories about Sparkplug are the times that things went bad and they went hot. Kind of like how most of the stories about Star Trek aren't about the times that the Enterprise was on a diplomatic mission and nothing bad happened. I figure 90% of Sparkplug's missions are to go into a small town, talk to some locals, do a little hiking, and call back to PHYSICS HQ saying, "False alarm, it was just some teenagers flying a drone."
I know you asked about Kitten specifically, but in my head, the four members of Sparkplug's anomalous traits are:
Bullfrog: None. He's just an experienced soldier and a respected leader.
Skunkboy: No anomalous traits confirmed, but he has a nearly supernatural talent for 3D visualization, which mostly manifests in nearly supernatural accuracy with a rifle, but probably has a lot of other uses if you really think about it.
Kitten: Has a unique series of mutations that make her fast, strong and tough, with ridiculous stamina and endurance. She's also over six feet and a half tall and built like a brick shithouse. Downside is that she gets extremely antsy if she has to sit still for very long: she finds it hard to sleep without working out to exhaustion first.
Spider: The Type Blue. Her area of specialty is ancient magic styles, particularly Celtic druidcraft. If she were a hacker, she'd be the type who uses an old style beige clicky keyboard from the 1980s because it just feels better than modern ones.

RJ's Platinum Collection #14: The Dark Pictures: House of Ashes
Achieved on 11/12/2022 at 6:36 PM
I had actually played the first game in the Dark Pictures series, Man of Medan, when it first came out, and found it to be a very middle-of-the-pack game. So I didn't really bother playing Little Hope. However, House of Ashes caught my eye due to having Ashley Tisdale as the lead character, and when I looked up the trailer and some gameplay, I decided to give this game a spin!
House of Ashes sees you take the role of five soldiers - Rachel, Eric, Nick, and Jason from the U.S. military, and Salim from the Iraqi military - during the 2003 invasion of Iraq. An attack on a suspected weapons silo ends up leaving the five characters trapped in an underground maze from hell filled with horrific monsters seeking to rip them all apart, forcing them to all work together if they want to survive - and for you to try your hardest if you want all five characters to survive too!
I went into the game blind and, to my own shock, managed to get the best ending in my initial playthrough. Not only did I get all five characters to survive, I also found all of the White and Black pictures, which are collectibles that give you hints on future choices you can make in the game, earning me 15 trophies.
1/31: The Sword and the Shield - Kurum and Balathu chose to fight together.
2/31: Illuminating Evidence - Eric discovered the unexpected effects of the UV wand.
3/31: Chekhov's Gun - Rachel used the machine gun.
4/31: Portents - Found all of the White Framed Pictures.
5/31: Casualties Of War - Found all of the Black Framed Pictures.
6/31: The Statement of Randolph Hodgson - Found every page of Randolph's journal.
7/31: Vision Of The Past - Rachel witnessed the origin of the creatures.
8/31: The Thing - Eric helped Rachel purge the infection.
9/31: Heart to Heart - Nick killed the ancient warrior using a stake.
10/31: Slayer - Salim killed five creatures using his spear.
11/31: Semper Fi - Jason went back for Salim and they both made it to the elevator.
12/31: Climbing Out Of Hell - Rachel survived after rejecting both of her lovers.
13/31: Golden Path - Five characters survived the finale.
14/31: Into The Sunset - Salim returned home to his son.
15/31: There Is Always Hope - Completed the Solo Story.
After beating the game, I looked up what collectibles I was missing and discovered I was missing literally only ONE of the fifty secrets. So I quickly reloaded the chapter where I could find it and grabbed it for the trophy.
16/31: Scratching At The Past - Found all of the Secrets.
I then spent some time using chapter select to go back and replay some chapters in order to get some trophies I had missed in my first playthrough, as well as finishing the Prologue in the Movie Night mode.
17/31: Six Minutes Of Night - Everyone died in the finale.
18/31: Double Tap - Eric and Rachel both died in the same explosion.
19/31: Final Girl - Only one character survived the finale.
20/31: Old Dog - Balathu made two kills with his spear.
21/31: We Are Not Alone - Finished the Prologue in Movie Night.
From this point, I needed to do a few re-playthroughs of the game in order to get certain trophies. First, I replayed from the point where the characters all fall into the caves in order to get the trophies for having Merwin survive long enough to fix the radio, and for Clarice killing Eric in the Sacrificial Chamber after turning into one of the creatures.
22/31: So You're My Technician - Merwin fixed the radio.
23/31: Full Clearance - Clarice killed Eric after becoming infected.
Next I had to do almost an entire new playthrough simply to make sure that none of the characters were injured by the time you escape the monster nest, or as they call it in the game the "Vault". I decided to also have Rachel get infected and placed in the cocoon, then I got the men up to the surface and massacred for a second trophy.
24/31: Ain't Got Time to Bleed - Escaped the Vault without any lingering injuries.
25/31: Lost In Time - Rachel was not rescued from her cocoon.
NEXT, I had to do, once again, do almost an entire new playthrough so I could make it so that all three characters who can use the UV wand on the creatures - this being Eric, Rachel, and Nick - were able to do so. This trophy is very annoying because Nick only gets the UV wand if Nick and Eric have a good relationship.
26/31: Let Me Have A Go! - Three characters used the UV wand to attack the creatures.
Speaking of Eric and Nick, I loathe these two because it is SO HARD to get Eric and Nick on good enough terms for Eric to give Nick the UV wand, but there is also another trophy where you need Eric and Nick to be on good terms, but ALSO have them be the only ones to survive to the elevator out of the nest. I thought I could just go back a few chapters to kill the others off, but somehow even though I got Eric to give Nick the UV wand, they did not share a good moment in the elevator and fought. So I didn't get the trophy.
Which meant that I had to do ANOTHER ENTIRE PLAYTHROUGH.
27/31: Oorah - Eric and Nick shared a moment in the elevator.
I decided to just go ahead and finish that playthrough entirely, but I ended up automatically getting another trophy simply because, since Nick and Eric were the only characters left alive, Infected Rachel was killed without any need for quick-time events, so I basically got a free trophy for my hard work.
28/31: Until Death Do Us Part - Rachel became infected and killed Eric, or Eric killed her.
But now I realized I had to do ANOTHER ENTIRE PLAYTHROUGH to do the exact OPPOSITE of what I just did, which was have Eric hate Nick enough to ignore his radio signal for help in the nest. It was at this point that I was getting very tired of playing the same 5-hour experience over and over.
29/31: Ghost Signal - Eric ignored Nick's radio signal.
But alas I had to do yet another E N T I R E playthrough of the game to get the last trophy for the Platinum, which was the trophy for only making Head decisions (all dialogue options are represented as Head or Heart decisions) for the entire game. I grinded it out, and I was able to successfully complete the playthrough and earn the Platinum trophy.
30/31: Start Thinking Like A Marine - Chose only Head decisions.
31/31: Full House! - Collect all trophies.
I think House of Ashes has a fantastic story with good characters, and I still love to watch videos of the game. However, the fact that I had to basically replay the entire game seven whole times made this Platinum kinda painful to get, as I got bored with replaying the same chapters over and over again VERY quickly.
Rating: 7/10

Hello, World!
What's up. I write fanfiction in my spare time. Figured since some of my works have gotten decently popular, I should make a sideblog dedicated solely to my fanfic projects.
I write for:
DC- mainly Batman
Daredevil
Ghostbusters
Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright
Skyrim
Feel free to send me asks about any of my projects and I'll also try to post snippets of what's to come.
AO3: Blue_lotus
Current WIPS
Red is the Color of Sinners: MCU Daredevil/DC Crossover. Matt Murdock meets a mute Jason Todd after the events of Under the Red Hood. They manage to strike up an unlikely friendship. (Series playlist can be found here. I do update it periodically so do check back once in a while!)
The Hellblazer's Apprentice: DC. Jason, during his Lost Days murder-training world tour, meets John Constantine in a chance encounter. Somehow he manages to persuade the man into teaching him magic. (Fic's Playlist can be found here. I do update it periodically so do check back once in a while!)
I Ain't Afraid of No Gotham: Ghostbusters/DC Crossover. The second generation of Ghostbusters are the one to find Jason the night of his resurrection and take him in. He joins their team later on in life, but there's still the question of who or what had resurrected him. REWRITE CURRENTLY IN PROGRESS!
I Beg Your Pardon?: Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright. Luke and Layton learn that their new friends have quite the history. It leads to a lot of stress and concern, especially for Phoenix.
My Soul Follows My Decay: Arkhamverse. Jason Todd died in the asylum after enduring over a year of torture. However, his spirit still craves vengeance and lingers the halls.
More Than Meets the Eye: Karliah had saved the Dragonborn after Mercer's betrayal. She quickly learns that there is more to her than what she initially thought.
Knights Versus Knights: The Batfamily of the Gotham Knights Game universe come face to face with the Arkahmverse Batfamily. It's pretty clear how fractured the Arkahmverse team is.
Where in the World is Jason Todd?: Lost Days AU. Jason leaves a series of breadcrumbs during his training as a way to taunt Bruce in the form of geocaches.
Semper Fi, Little Bird: Frank Castle, aka the Punisher, happens to come across a presumed dead Jason Todd in the bowels of Arkham Asylum while hunting down his own quarry. After seeing the brutal extent of his injuries and hearing Jason's pleas, he rescues Robin and takes him back to New York.

Trepang2 - Thoughts
Monolith's F.E.A.R. really is something that Time swallowed up. Try and imagine the concept of a no-holds-barred first-person John Woo bulletfest in the context of today's stop-and-pop shooters and arena-clearing Boomer Shooters, and you'll realize the whole concept of it is an outlier.
It's dressed in Tacticool and heavily grounded weapon designs, everyone you shoot looks and feels like you'd imagine PMC members would look and feel and you could almost excuse the game for looking like a series of drab Call of Duty Deathmatch maps - but the gameplay is now wholly non-standard. There's no ADS, with accuracy solely being the domain of your twitch skills and your character's Bullet Time shenanigans, and the game's AI harkens back to times where we thought that soldiers being reactive was revolutionary.
In application, this unfortunately means that most grunts are grenade-spammy and that the game tries to consistently keep you on your toes. It'd be a problem, except you can powerslide with six degrees of freedom along the ground plane and can launch even heavily-armored grunts into the stratosphere before peppering them with HV ammo. The end result is that you're the meat grinder, so to speak. What goes in is an endless procession of Ooo-rah-spouting, Semper Fi rejects all implied to have been dishonorably discharged, and what comes out is sometimes hilariously terrified gnats in heavy armor who realistically go from surgical strikes against you to cussing you out to, well - more or less shitting their pants while calling for backup that never arrives.
As to why it never arrives? Well, you've mostly killed everyone else on your lonesome. You're Asterix and they're Romans covered in low-vis, million-dollar-a-pop tacwear that's rendered utterly useless against your time-bending Bullet-Fu. What's particularly hilarious to me in the context of the game's near-future setup of crimes against scientific morals in the name of creating cool supersoldiers is that the main Evil Megacorp of choice is implied to be Canadian. Multiple combat maps are set in Canada, and TREPANG Studios themselves are also predominantly staffed with Canadian members.
I'm sorry, but the most evil megacorp I know in Canada is Power Corporation, and its biggest crimes amount to giving a platform to right-wing douchecanoes in West Coast newspapers. Genetic experiments and superhumans gone wrong does not seem especially plausible, let's say...

A little bit about me…
Far as online is concerned, I would be recognized as a muse-stricken fanfiction writer. I started writing fan fiction 23 years ago on fanfiction.net. The first work posted online was Party with the Old Fly-Boys, fandom was JAG and the ship was Harm/Mac, that was September of 2000. And it went from there… Over time, I wrote 100 pieces of work for 26 fandoms ranging from books, television and movies and 27 different ships’. Since, my works have been purged (found only on my inactive LiveJournal) because they no longer reflect me as a writer. For years I’ve been trying to get back on the saddle, but my muse only goes as far as the ideas. Soon as I try to transcribe to paper or type it, I draw a major blank. Writer’s block for the last two decades has been disheartening. I still try, leaving things in my drafts and such but I usually just end up deleting it all and starting completely over. Amazing how one can feel like they’re on top of the moon writing to not being able to muster even a drabble.
Outside of writing? I’m a full-time mom to 2 autistic sons. Wife to a marine veteran, Semper Fi and thank a veteran or active member for their service they will appreciate it. And to top that already full plate I am a full-time daughter to my mothers. If I’m not taking care of something to do with them then I’m dealing with the horde of animals, we have. 9 dogs and 18 cats we have strays coming in all the time. I basically run a rescue all on my own and with my own money (but not a legit rescue just FEELS like I’m running a rescue).
What do I love?
1923 I can’t wait for season 2, I’m beginning to lean toward Spencer and Alex being the grandparents of John Dutton III in Yellowstone. Shame this series has the been the best of the Yellowstone Universe thus far. Outlander I'm going to finish the series out however it finishes but I'm drained with it. The way they have structured their last three or four seasons has been a rollercoaster, slow then rushed and it's took a lot of the joy out of watching. Reacher Season 3 still has Neagley coming back to do her usual bonding with Reacher so I will continue to tune in every season. Though I will say I liked the writing and pace in season 1 better than season 2. The Terminal List Looking forward to where this goes next season and I'm definitely looking forward to the spin-off for Taylor Kitsch. Stranger Things I resisted watching this show simply because everyone loved it and I didn't want to admit it was good. It is good, it's great even and I can't wait for the final chapter of this awesome constructed series. Reminds me how well the Babylon 5 series was. Marvel Cinematic Universe I have been a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since The Avengers. Since that moment I have been an avid MCU fan. I am not a comic fan or expert, the extent of my comic knowledge comes from the many other experts I have watched online talking about these incredible complex stories.
Who do I love?
Beth Dutton from Yellowstone. I relate to her in so many ways, like her no bullshit attitude and utter dying devotion to family. Where we differ, I don’t smoke cigarettes, I don’t drink alcohol anymore, and I would LOVE to own Yellowstone Dutton Ranch GLADLY. She hates it and would have no qualm selling it once her father passes but while he is alive, she will defend it to her last breath. Beth doesn’t let anyone scare her, she won’t let anyone get that satisfaction from her ever again since her mother died and since she lost the ability to have children. (side note: Beth has a shit ton of trauma from her childhood that contributes to her erratic often childish behavior when she lashes out, but I still love her it's what makes her the most human of them.)
Wanda Maximoff from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Most particularly in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and before you say anything let me explain. I have two sons, like Wanda did, and a husband, like Wanda did. And I imagine what it would be like to lose my husband and my children...the grief that would consume me would no doubt turn me evil, and I'm not using the word lightly. If I were in Wanda's position in Multiverse of Madness with that grief and guilt and the Darkhold in my possession anyone who stood in my way would be fucked, like the Illuminati. The only thing that would be able to stop me would be my boys, just like Wanda. And like Wanda, when she realized what she had become and how her own boys perceived her...it was enough to turn her away from the dark path and truly LOVE her sons...which is what I would hope I would do because I would only hope their love would be enough to bring me back from that place.
I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WANDA AND HER FULL REDEMPTION ARC COME TO PASS!!
SHE IS NOT DEAD.
SHE WILL GET HER OWN SOLO MOVIE BET IT WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON! (update 8/6/24 - there was no announcement of anything related to Scarlet Witch at San Diego Comic-Con)
Why did I write and post this?
I managed to actually write it out fairly quick, so you damn right I’m posting it! May not be a story but its about me so I guess in a way it is a story.
Requests for stories and Asks welcome!

These are some of my favorite authors, and I absolutely adore their writing. Tal Bauer’s action romances are one of the best I have read, “The Executive Office” series is so good and will keep you on your toes. Keira Andrews made me cry reading “Semper Fi” because the emotions are so good and “Christmas Deal” is a Xmas book I’ll read anytime during the year. Annabeth Albert writes too some good books! All of them are so active, and “Conventionally Yours” is a book I’ll keep thinking back too ’cause it’s so sweet! These authors have written some of my favorite books, and as a writer myself I look up to them ’cause #1 their writing is just so good, #2 they let themselves write a bunch of different stories with different tropes and sub-genres which is awesome! #3 Reading their books makes my publishing dreams feel possible!

COLD TAPES: WINTER OVER SEASON ONE FINALE FINALLY DROPPED ENORMOUS SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT DON'T READ IF YOU WANT TO LISTEN TO THE PODCAST AND TRY TO FIGURE IT OUT YOURSELF
IT WAS FUCKING JACK?????????
all my predictions were wrong but DON'T CARE HOLY SHIT IT WAS FUCKING JACK. IT WAS JACK THE WHOLE TIME. YOU LYING TEXAN MOTHERFUCKER YOU GOT MY YANKEE ASS BUT GOOD. oh my god. it was revenge for his uncle. did he know the whole time that Drew had composed the psych eval that got his uncle fired? or only after Victor told him? because either way holy shit did he put on a good show of acting surprised when Tessa told him. he put on a damned good innocent act overall. AND the fucking boiler check during the party!!!! he did such a good job of making sure The Lads were all 1. drunk as hell 2. each others' alibis and 3. knew that he had his "boiler check" to "do" at 9pm where he "totally didn't" go "murder" a "person" instead fffffffffff. fuck. he dicked Mark over so bad. he ruined his fucking life. like let's be real Mark fucked himself over. but Jack convinced him to fake winter over syndrome (easy money bro! all your financial problems totally solved! fuck Khione anyway!) so he could use him as an accessory to murder a guy who wrote a psych eval that his fucking uncle failed which subsequently got him shitcanned which led to his suicide. semper fi indeed. holy shit.
and season two looks like it's gonna be all about the logistics of Getting His Ass. it's still like June 24, dead of winter in Antarctica, and now they know exactly who the murderer is but it's not like they can just send him to prison. will they sedate him and lock him up like Mark? how? are they just gonna get Anders and Matteo to tackle him and drag him off to his cell? what about Mark, will he remain locked up too? he's an accessory to murder, and he's a key witness with a huge target on his back. how exactly are they gonna do this? will there be another murder??? and maybe some of my other suspicions will be examined in in season 2! like Khione still very much did enact a really fucked up and unethical psychological experiment! and we still don't know what the fuck Scott was up to that night or why he wanted Luca to provide him that alibi so badly! he wasn't necessarily up to anything shady; he could have demanded Luca cover for him because he knows how bad it looks that he lied about his whereabouts to the cops, given his criminal record. but we know he wasn't off murdering Drew, so where the hell was he and what was he doing? doing drugs with Johan in his office, maybe? is that why Johan keeps defending him, they're drug buddies? oh my god there's still so much. season two cannot fucking come fast enough. i'm gonna have to relisten to the whole series fuuuuccckkkkk what a good podcast
#cold tapes podcast#cold tapes: winter over#gotta go through the credit listing at the end again#see if i was at least right about tessa's boss being played by the same actor who did dr. jonathan reid in vampyr#FUCK MY MEAT TENDERIZING HAMMER THEORY...............#i thought i was so clever lmao. turns out occam's razor is a thing for a reason
