you did the serial killer Li's, how about the UNO reverse?
How would Li's feel when they discovered PC is secretly a serial killer the whole time, been hanging around with them but choose not to kill them, unless they dare to report to the police
Also sad news for Avery, they had very high skulduggery skill and easily can predict he would report them to the police so they killed him, hide his body and stole all of his values
LIs as serial killers
Whitney is shocked, pissed, and semi turned on. How did he not know? Why didn't you tell him!? He occasionally threatens to turn you in but you know he won't
Kylar is very surprised he didn't find out earlier from how much he stalks you. Why didn't you tell him :(? He is 100% supporting you in this endeavor.
Robin is scared but knows better than to do anything, just tells you to be careful and not get caught. He doesn't approve, at all, but he doesn't want you to get in trouble.
P!Sydney is terrified and will start praying. He can't handle this, he didn't hear this. Everything is fine and dandy, nothing is wrong. You're not a killer.
C!Sydney is shocked but also kinda really into. He wants to be more daring than his pure counterpart, side affect of becoming aware I suppose.
Alex is shocked, maybe asks some questions but that's it. He doesn't want to be involved or know too much. He does love some gossip though, so he won't stop you if you start talking about your kills.
Avery goes along with it for a while but you got his rage too high and he threatened to turn you in so you killed him :)
Eden is surprised but unbothered. Is he worried about you getting caught? Yes, he knows how the police are in town. Besides being worried about you, he doesn't really care about you killing people.

hey hi i have a question about your game
i know this can't really be a top priority when the game itself doesn't fully exist yet but i've got a cheap ass pc (1.7gb of vram and only 32mb of that are dedicated) and would love to know if you're thinking of optimizing the graphics for toasters or at least adding toggles for the most graphically intensive stuff?
especially if the game's gonna have porn or even just nudity, i can't reasonably buy/download another poorly optimized porn game but also i love being a girl and having a dick and playing games where i can also do those two things
looks great so far btw! i love women 👍
oh yeah i'm doing everything i can to keep performance good, e.g. there's no actual transparency effects (particles etc. just use dithering and most only update at 30fps), level geometry is gonna stay fairly low-poly and texture stuff is either flat colors or tiny (128x128) textures. plus i'm trying to keep even minor things efficient like the UI (stuff only updates when it's changed instead of constantly checking values on the player, UI animations run at 30fps) and interactable stuff (jumpslash targets don't update unless you're actually close enough to jumpslash at them). also some general "every game should pay attention to this" stuff like limiting how many lights get to cast shadows
probably the worst thing performance-wise right now is aldegund herself since her model is actually like. 7 separate skeletal meshes (+1 penis mesh) to update every frame when you have every item, due to her items affecting her appearance, but i plan on fixing that soon (as in, working on it right now) using the dynamic triangle culling shader i came up with semi-recently for Lesser Beast, so she'll just be a single skeletal mesh with bits hidden based on your items. it'll be slightly worse for memory usage on average, since her full 8000~ triangle model will always be loaded instead of just when you have all your upgrades, but ultimately it'll be better for performance
regarding hog stuff though, nothing explicit planned other than a "let aldegund hang cock" toggle. maybe some busty catboy NPCs too

How I draw: Silver Metallic Buttons for Sims 2 Textures
As we all know, Sims 2 doesn't really appreciate large file sizes/dimensions for it's textures, so sometimes you have work very closely with the individual pixels. Here is how I draw buttons. Video is sped up so don't feel like you need to draw as fast as me!
Side note: this tutorial is created on the basis that you already know how to use the basic functions of Sims BodyShop to extract the texture file. There's plenty of tutorials out there explaining that so please don't ask me to clarify on that part. Anyway, on to the buttons...↓↓↓
What you need:
A PC
Digital Drawing app (like Photoshop, Krita etc)
A Graphics Tablet with pen - you could try this with a mouse but I wouldn't recommend!
And obviously Sims 2/Sims 2 BodyShop
First off, create a new layer - we don't want this button permanently stuck to our base texture. Then I get a standard hard edge brush (I use Krita as my drawing software, so just use whatever hard brush is available in your preferred software/app). Because I'm making relatively small buttons, I make my brush 7.09px in size. Select a mid to light grey colour as the base. Make a single circle.
Then decrease the brush size to be nice and small. As a comparison to my 7.09px circle, I decrease to 0.01px for this next step. Choose a slightly darker grey colour and lightly sketch in a 'semi-circular line' about 3/4 of the way around just in from the edge of the circle. By lightly sketching - and not pressing down hard, you'll get varying tones on each pixel to represent different reflections on the 'metal'.
Next choose a darker grey again, and lightly sketch around the similar area as the last colour, but don't be too fussy on hitting the same pixels - we want varying tonal values for our shadows.
Then choose white and lightly sketch the 'catch light' part of the button. This doesn't need to be right in the centre, in fact it's better if it's off to the side, or towards the top more. We're not always facing directly towards a light source so this creates a more realistic lighting effect. You'll see me select the same mid to light base grey I used just to lightly dust over the edges of the white area to soften it a tiny bit (only do this if your white edge is a little to crisp).
After that I go back and forth between a few different tones of grey to lightly sketch over the parts we haven't really drawn on yet. This just helps create some gradual shading that enhances the 'roundness' of our very flat, very 2D button texture.
Once you're happy with the shadowing (remember it looks somewhat janky this close up, but you can always zoom out to see if the button looks more smooth when further away), you can then make another layer, and drag it below your newly made button layer in the layer menu. Select a soft edge brush and increase the size to slightly wider than your buttons overall size (I chose 9.14px compared to my 7.09px button)
Choose black from the colour wheel/palette and lightly build up the shadow underneath the button, gradually increasing size and opacity until desired tone. If the colour of the 'garment' in this texture is light then keep the shadow to a minimum, if it's dark then the shadow needs to be deep enough to show up.
Zoom out and inspect how this button looks further out. If you're satisfied, then merge the button and shadow layers together, copy/paste it as many times as needed for the garment you're texturing and Voila! You made buttons for a Sims 2 Texture!!
Feel free to ask any questions below - I'm definitely no professional, especially in creating tutorials so I'm more than happy to clarify if something didn't make sense.

[sticks leg out] may we see ur warden(s)/custom hawke(s)/inquisitor(s)
and if u feel like it how would any of them fare if dropped into Faerun (with or without Fenris/Zev)
Ohhh don't get me started!
Garrett Hawke, my beloved, although I hc him as elf-blooded. Ironic enough, in Thedas, "half-elf" or "half-blood" is used as an insult iirc, so imagine his expression to hear people use the term half-elf so casually in Faerûn. Just a little aside.
For him, he is your typical purple mage Hawke, so I'd definitely say he'd bring that type of energy to Faerûn, no matter what time in his life he's in. He'd be excited as fuck to be in a place where he can use his magic openly without worry, and he would take the adventure in stride, even while he's screaming on the inside. (Still, none of this is as bad as Kirkwall in his opinion. 😆) Somehow gets everyone to fall for him without even trying. Not his first merry band of bi/pan misfits that he's had to deal with.
Then, there is HIM.
Darrian Tabris. My Warden. My Warden-Inquisitor. Love of my life. My angry rebel. The Dark Wolf himself! I djdbdhsbdfkf 😍💖💞💖💞
Sorry, but he was a character I loved writing so much. Maybe I'll return to his story one day, but my energy has been more devoted to one shots and shorter works these days. It just suits my current habits and lifestyle better than going full multichap.
Darrian is a rogue/mage multiclass thanks to my setup on pc where I utilized the game's console commands and such. He's faced a lot of hardship in the Alienage and puts his people (elves and mages) first. He's also not above using less than savory means of achieving his goal (ex. the power of blood is a badass concept, coating his blades in his tainted blood to seriously fuck up his enemies, this is one of my favorites). He's also not above committing crime to get what he wants, but he grows into being a leader. In one AU I have, he even serves at Alistair's side as king (a poly relationship in this one). He also becomes Inquisitor and demolishes the status quo by encouraging rebellion where he can, so there's that too. 😂
So, with that in mind, how does he fare in Faerûn? Probably thinks it's too cushy compared to Thedas. His temper is his biggest flaw because he's so damn passionate that anything that angers him can set him off. Will be ready to fistfight any oppressive gods or former masters at the drop of a hat because he values freedom above all else. Could probably take Cazador out on his own ngl 💀
And of course Zevran was his romance (surprise, surprise). I don't think they'd necessarily act different around each other in Faerûn, but Zevran’s opinion would hold a lot of weight for him.
Also, semi-related, but I have so much art commissioned of these two. I didn't have my thoughts organized for this post at all so if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

Okay Whitney character dive, I'm just gonna use he/him pronouns for all of this except for PC ✨
I don't know how much of this makes sense but I'm going to ramble and I can already tell this is gonna get quite long
And once again small disclaimer I'm just rambling my personal speculation and thoughts and have no ways of knowing what the creators actually planned/intend for a character!
... Okay I have to add a cut I think it'll clutter the tag too much 👉👈
I actually kind of want to start out with making a comparison of Whitney vs Avery. Because I adore both, yet have actually seen some people interpret them in almost a switcharoo to what I do? Which is super interesting to me, but their character archetypes are definitely similar in several senses, and I find it fun to think about so-
From my point of view, what they have in common, in my opinion, is the "Control and status" mindset.
So when we first meet Whitney, he's obviously not introduced as a good guy, he's a bully, an utter asshole, and for a long time he is just that, he doesn't treat PC nicely until you get pretty high up in love, and still there he's still sometimes an absolute ass. (Just.. A more controlled one that will sometimes semi-respect your boundaries if you enforce them)
Whereas Avery, we meet as this charming, slightly mysterious yet chivalrous older man, helps us out, takes us out for a nice meal and in turn afterwards keeps being quite charmingly chivalrous as long-- as you act the proper way.
But the kind of funny thing it me is, with both of them, once you're in a relationship with you start to see the facade slip sometimes.
With Whitney, you start to see softer moments, it's small things that could be missed or brushed over perhaps, but you start to see moments where he shows he actually cares about the PC, and can actually be sort of sweet if you're in private with him.
Where as with Avery, you see the facade slip too-- but in the opposite way in my opinion? You start to see a colder side of him, start to see that what he cares about is appearance, and see that if you don't act the way he wanted you to, the anger comes through. (I'll definitely go more in depth of Avery if I make a post for him too)
Which again, feels like opposites, yet so similar?
And to touch back on their "control" mindset, there the thing is Whitney seems to be almost desperate for control, and will fight to have it, desperate for something he can actually have his own control over, likely stemming from a home life where he feels stuck and like he has no say in anything (Will touch more on this in just a second)
Where as Avery... Isn't desperate for control, rather he seems to simply expect it. He expects that PC will fall into line and be good, let him make the decisions that make them both look best. Especially at first of you chose the options that provoke him a bit, you can sense he almost starts to consider PC something to be tamed at that point.
Where both of them, highly value their status and other people looking upon them the way they've worked hard to obtain.
And to further explain what I meant with Whitney's home life, let's just say I think there's a reason that Whitney seems to be away from his home for as long as he can, why he prefers to loiter in alleyways and get drunk and cause trouble..
If we, once again, look at psychology, delinquent behaviors USUALLY stem from not feeling seen or heard by your parents, stem from an anger and frustration of either too strict rules or otherwise things like neglect. Same with bullying, usually also stemming from issues in the home life leaving the bully feeling weak and worthless, where bringing others down gives them a high of somewhat power. Especially to people they have a sense of envy toward.
We can also somewhat guess out from certain dialogue that Whitney's family probably isn't the wealthiest, as he describes his own room as a dump and also admits to Bailey that he indeed doesn't have near enough money to afford the PC. Plus if his parents were rich I don't think it'd make as much sense for him to be stealing, other than I guess pure provocation?
So those things combined I feel like I can definitely start to guess why Whitney might feel that lack of control in his life. I'm like... 90% sure I have seen Vrel say that the only thing feels like he has control over is his appearance? (And then the PC)
And while Whitney's relationship with the PC may start as a control thing for him, a simple way to get that itch satisfied and have some humiliation fun as well, well... He does genuinely start to care for the PC. Not that you'd get him to fully admit just how much he does.
Some of my favorite moments is when his brain almost short-wires when the PC not just reciprocates but initiates, especially outside the sexual context. Instantly blushing and trying to play it smooth but often ending up stuttering a bit. Or if you're gone too long and you can see faint tears in his eyes? Yeah good shit.
But also I absolutely have to mention how he is also so oddly soft in encounters, like often saying PC is like an angel, kissing PC'S forehead, praising... Like even in the "embarrassing" scenarios he often has this softness to him.
And to just softly go back to the whole bully psychology thing, a really interesting part of Whitney's character in my opinion is his target on Kylar, especially once he's with the PC.
Whitney in general is quite jealous / possessive, the only way he's sharing the PC is on his own volition, when he's the one controlling the scenario and who touches who. We can see he gets confrontational even in class of people just looking at the PC, or how he gets so frustrated if one of his friends try to help themselves to the PC.
So, to see the PC give someone like Kylar attention? Of course his brain will spiral.
Whitney has probably done so much to build up his position, to be popular, attractive, feared, to be in control, so to see /Kylar/, the freak, the weird little creep everyone actively avoids, who's such an easy target for bullying because of it-- /that's/ someone PC is interested in? Infuriating. A confidence hit probably. From his point of view he has so much more to offer than that pathetic little freak, doesn't he?
And that's where one of Whitney's big flaws come in, because when he feels upset, or even betrayed by the PC, he acts out. He starts to threaten, he starts to humiliate, he forces the PC into dangerous situations. A way to try and snatch that control back.
If pushed far enough, (spoiler warning here!!) we know he's even willing to sell the PC off to the underground brothel because of that loss of respect from everyone else. Because of that loss of control that he so desperately clutches onto.
But I'm gonna try and round it off a bit here--
Whitney seems to have a rather poor handle on emotions, on vulnerability. It's easier to be someone people fear and be having fun with it than it is letting someone even catch a glimpse at the vulnerable parts inside.
... Which is exactly why the moments that he has alone with the PC is something I absolutely melt over, those cracks beginning to show the softness.
So to sum up!
I find Whitney a really interesting character, as much as I roll my eyes at him and think he's a stupid ass, I really hope we in the future keep seeing him develop more and more 🤧
#dol whitney#dol#degrees of lewdity#whitney the bully#I just love complex characters man#Love wondering why characters are the way they are#I might do a post on Avery too eventually but I just wanted to being him up too due to their similarities#I have so many thoughts on so many DOL characters ahhh#Though I feel like these more so just turn into why I love characters.... But alas#I am however really looking forward to when we get Whitney pregnancy content because how a character handles that stuff says a lot#I have my thoughts and predictions but I trust in waiting patiently 🤧#woogarambles

Trinkets, 61: Interesting baubles, semi magical objects and items touched by mystery.
A rough-hewn amber stone that gives the bearer a sense of peace, and even a glimmer of hope for salvation.
A strange figurine of a cloaked phantom. Carved from a smooth and lusterless black stone, the surface seems to soak up the light around it giving the entire piece a remarkable feel. The mysterious figure is crouched low and seems to be slipping through the air like smoke. Its spectral aspect looks familiar somehow.
A perverse and gaudy replica of an ordained Sester's mask. When this mask is worn, the spirit feels nebulous, boundless even. The vast distances between each being dissolves, revealing a vision of the world beheld by a thousandfold eyes.
A tall silver-plated candle holder shaped like a dragon's claw.
A map, which shows in painstaking detail how to navigate the ring of deadly reefs around a distant island. A point near the middle of the island is marked with an X. There is no hint as to what 'X' might actually be.
A pair of gray wool socks that stay warm and dry no matter the travelling conditions.
A small thick card marked "Get out of jail FREE" in Common. The king's official stamp or a good forgery thereof is on the back.
A small leather wallet containing a signed and sealed death certificate of one of the PC’s. Knowledgeable PC’s that it is must be some sort of elaborate forgery, as the official notations and stamped documentation is all correct, the date of death is 4d4 months from now.
A leather case containing a stack of trading cards, each with a monster, spell or item on the face of it. Numerous descriptions and statistics are written on them in elvish.
A pawn shop's ticket that says the bearer can present this receipt along with payment in full to retrieve their necklace that has been sold into hock in a nearby city. The writing states that the bearer will have to pay 5d4 gold pieces, which is 10% of the total estimated value of the jewelry. The stub says that if the necklace is not claimed within the next 5d20 weeks that ownership of the item will fully pass to the pawnbroker. For proper claiming purposes, the ticket has the first sentence of the following description written on it: Random Necklace.
—Click Here to be directed to the Hotlinks To All Tables post, which provides (As you might have guessed) convenient links to all of the loot and resource tables this blog has.
—Keep reading for 90 more trinkets.
—Note: The previous 10 items are repeated for easier rolling on a d100.

A folded letter; it's been read hundreds of times. It’s a bittersweet goodbye from one lover to another and the details too intimately private to rewrite here.
A sealed jar of foggy glass that that is always unnaturally cold. When touched, the artificial chill penetrates the bearer's skin before his mind registers the presence of the brain within. It’s connected to a pair of free-floating eyes, which flash as the organs that once moved a body squirm and squiggle in their new home. An observer can also make out the gibbering movements of what was once a mouth but is now reduced to a puddle of gore and goop.
A copper thumb from an autognome.
A broad leather pouch containing a set of glassblower’s tools including several metal tubes in loops. One has a broad, conical end. Other fasteners hold crimping pliers in a few sizes, large tweezers, straight shears, a small wooden paddle, a handheld flat marver, and several brass shaping pushes. Dull blades of various shapes hang from the loops, as do spoonlike blocks for rounding glass.
An electrum coin displaying a neogi on one side and hundreds of eyes on the other.
A model of an astral elven tower made of iron wire.
A staff of arcane focus crafted with exquisite care from sanded and polished yew. The implement has been etched with sigils from end to end, except for where the shaft is wrapped with leather for easy handling. With such staves, wizards have shaken the world since time immemorial.
An empty velvet satchel with flecks of glimmering dust inside that hint at what it once held.
A large hand-drawn poster, featuring the steps to a simple waltz for two marked by footprints and arrows, and accompanying music recorded below. The dance it describes is sharp and harsh, littered with sudden stops and performed with quick, cutting movements in time to the music’s staccato rhythm. When performed as written, the dance lasts just over three minutes.
A sheet of papyrus covered in images of the sun in different art styles.
A clay pot filled with a reddish paint meant to be worn by a berserker. Made from clay taken from the bank of a river where many battles were fought, this warpaint contains the lingering malice of the warriors who perished there.
A grapefruit-sized gelatinous orb of roiling corporeal energy, that slowly shuffles around on little cilia.
A perfectly iridescent walking cane composed of pure sugar that seems to sweeten the very air around it.
A small pouch of various bone buttons and bronze gears.
A small pouch filled with dried herbs and sparkling stones that protect the holder against the evil eye.
A glass jar with a small assortment of tiny colorful soaps.
A piece of amber with a small fish preserved inside.
A soot-coated, brass incense bowl.
A soft, portable sitting mat made of velvety moss.
An antique and battered wooden Ouiji board.
A tiny figurine of a wolf that whines when left alone for too long.
A primitive wood-carved bangle that contains the essence of the former owners’ spirit.
A large round bottom flask of thick glass, filled with bright blue, faintly glowing, highly explosive whale oil.
A worn pouch containing a small set of black-market documents that contain contacts and connections to the ever-present underground trade of illicit goods, namely opium.
A miniature painting depicting religious persona in gilt frame.
A set of three bulbous clay whistles, shaped to resemble nude humanoid figures, with emphasized sex organs marking the place where one has to blow into the whistle.
A richly decorated box with no obvious lock or hinges, but a wooden switch on top. If the switch is activated, a secret compartment releases a mummified hand that crawls up and turns the switch off again. It then returns to its compartment and closes the cover.
An incense holder made of bronze and inlaid with ivory. The general shape is that of a sleeping cat.
An iron belt buckle depicting the eyes and fangs of a spider.
A featureless mask of rough, unvarnished hardwood.
A medal for outstanding gallantry on the field of battle. The nation which awarded it no longer exists. Turns out it takes more than gallantry to win a war.
A wax-sealed glass jar filled with preserved rose petals, seeds, thorns and leaves. The survival of all humankind is tied to this item, so says the Edaerian Prophecy.
A scroll case filled with thirty amateurish erotic poems. Despite the quality of the poetry, the penmanship is remarkable.
A roll of oilskin containing 2d4 torches made with alchemical sulphur that makes them immune to being quenched by water.
A large gourd filled with unidentified, spiced apple-scented spirits.
A waxed leather pouch containing 1d4+1 bricks of aromatic incense suitable for religious ceremonies.
A silver gorget, embellished with hammered relief of an orchard.
A box of high-quality costume jewellery: obviously fake on close inspection, but from a distance it'll look as though the bearer is wearing a king's ransom. Handy if for baiting a trap, or for pretending that one is richer than they are.
A smooth citrine carving depicting a small bird with its head tilted inquisitively.
An oil painting of a bleak looking, late autumn forest.
A thick pamphlet on which is written a fiery political tract, full of stirring revolutionary rhetoric, cataloguing the crimes of the ruling classes and calling upon the people to rise up. It is cleverly written to appeal to a wide audience and rile up a mob in a hurry and would be worth some-thing to a political agitator.
A felted brown toy goat that bleats when squeezed.
A glass perfume bottle that creates a cascade of illusory cherry blossom petals when spritzed. It smells of cardamom and cinnamon.
A dusty, floppy purple velvet hat with a broken egret plume on one side.
A bottle of brambleberry wine with a handwritten tag reading “TO US.”
A stone statuette in the shape of a tree with its branches twisted around a bronze disk for the moon.
A silver brooch in the shape of a raven’s skull, filled with dried flowers.
A prayer-wheel made of a smooth wooden spindle topped with a stone wheel engraved with a meditative mantra. Whenever the object is grasped, flashes of someone else’s emotionally poignant memories flash in the bearer's mind as if long forgotten but suddenly remembered; A holy man once gave it to you: he said that anyone who had shed as much blood as you had obviously needed it more than he did. You sit and turn it whenever you can’t sleep at night, and the faces of the men you’ve killed seem to hover before you in the cool night air.
A collection of feathers from no recognizable species of bird.
A silver scalpel with detailed inscriptions written along the blade.
A worn and weathered map depicting the geographic features of the surrounding area, possibly with incorrect descriptions and unaccounted-for cliffs. A skilled PC can tell it’s outdated
A thin, strange, jagged piece of glass is about one foot in length. When any creature looks through the glass, it sees brief glimpses of random other places in the universe and in other planes of existence.
A leather wallet containing several pages of sheet music labelled “The Xanthous Ballad”. The ancient and yellowed parchment is covered in looping handwriting almost too faded to see. Knowledgeable PC's have heard that according to whispered rumors, this piece of music comes from the infamous play “The King in Yellow”.
A trio of palm-sized vaudevillian balls made of soft dark leather. Close inspection reveals gnomish script in the stitching.
A tiny scorpion carved from topaz with its claws held open and its tail in position, ready to sting.
A piece of jade polished in the blessed currents of a nereid.
A small wooden box containing 2d8 spiral shaped ear plugs of white bone scrimshawed with stylized grinning lizards.
A small gourd filled with surprisingly sophisticated smelling perfume.
An old oaken box with fearsome carvings that smells aromatically of unknown spices. It contains a large and ornate silver key with mystical decorations on its tarnished surface. The key sits carefully wrapped in an old faded parchment with characters and hieroglyphics of some unknown language.
A metal plate decorated with nude figures and maps of local quasars.
An ancient silver burial coin. One side shows an image of the skeletal boatman Charon. The reverse shows an eye which would be placed over the corpse’s eyes to supposedly pay for the passage to the afterlife.
A muck-covered glass jar filled with small, white, writhing worms that possess haggard human faces. If the jar is opened, thrown at something or otherwise destroyed, the worms shed their skin and take the form of tiny white flies, chuckling jovially as they flutter off into the air. They laugh as though they know something you do not.
A crude clay idol a bit larger than a man´s fist, depicting a knot of worms.
A cheaply made, printed pamphlet advocating moral change and promoting the ideals of Random Godly Domain.
A dried Random Humanoid Race heart stuffed with seven iron nails.
A hollowed-out tube made from multicolored glass, twisted into swirls and shapes. It appears that it’s meant to be used to drink beverages, albeit in a strange and ineffective way.
A colourful scented candle whose aroma reminds you of a pleasant childhood memory.
A packet of sheet music that is extraordinarily complicated, with illegible articulation and an unnecessary amount of 32nd notes.
A miniature violin that can fit in between your fingers. It plays sad music when something bad happens.
An extremely detailed map depicting a continent that no one has seen or heard of before.
A jar of white ointment that when applied to the skin, causes the flesh to sparkle presently and glow faintly for a few hours.
A metal cylinder with a small dial at the bottom. Turning the dial causes pieces of cutlery to appear at the end of the cylinder. Twisting it clockwise once causes the head of a fork to appear, twisting it twice makes a spoon appear, and turning it counter clockwise once makes a butter knife appear.
A pair of clockwork knights, riding horses and wielding lances. When wound up, they gallop at each other and joust, in which one of the knights is always knocked off his horse.
A dreamcatcher made of twine and feathers that turns good dreams into nightmares.
A thumbnail sized silver effigy of a house-cat. When put into a person’s mouth, that person can no longer speak, as the cat has got their tongue.
A severed ear with numerous shiny earrings and piercings still in it.

28 Words, to Fight Against the Trough Period
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a0c0f08fe4782dc2335e4323889168ca/16444f85c34d3e5f-0e/s500x750/9c0cccc7afb1b58ddf2cde76848699d2de2f640e.jpg)
Original Article: http://szb.dlxww.com/epaper/dlwb/pc/pic/202302/17/977d0b0e-f3f4-4008-b9b2-5474c64b3a46.jpg.1 Translator’s note: The article was published in Dalian Evening News on 17 Feb 2023.
Recently, Douyin released the Supertopic Level chart, actor Xiao Zhan was the only “Diamond 3”, his popularity value was the sum of the 2nd and 3rd ranked traffic, his commercial value was also first among Chinese celebrities. As of the end of 2022, Xiao Zhan had as many as 35 various endorsements, he was the Chinese face rarely seen in various major shopping malls in Europe and the United States. This was still during the period where he had no dramas airing, and he was even in a “semi-quiet” state for the past 3 years, with few popular hot searches and rarely participating in variety shows.
Many people more or less knew about the 227 incident. After that, Xiao Zhan, a suddenly popular traffic star, plummeted and fell to the bottom, many endorsements were suspended, and some variety shows and programs that originally planned to invite him had to stop the plans due to the pressure from antis. Even when participating in events, in the final group photo session, he would consciously stand at the furthest position, with some distance from the people next to him, so that he could be cut off later… Faced with such a predicament, as an artist who lived off traffic and popularity, how did he move out of it?
In an interview with “Zhongxin Economic View”, Xiao Zhan used 28 words to describe his state during those few months: “Be serious when working, read when confused, think when alone, sleep when upset.”
This passage was not original by Xiao Zhan. Some would say this is Carnegie’s educational motto, while others would think it was a summary of netizen’s talk. There were many versions, some would be “read when confused, exercise when busy, think when alone”, and “do things when awake, read when confused, sleep when angry, and think when alone”. All these were meant for facing bottleneck periods, trough periods or even the darkest moments of life, career and interpersonal relationships. People should look inward, through learning, exercising, thinking and even sleeping, to return to their original intentions and remember why they set out in the first place, think about could be like at its worst, and then find the answer from the wisdom of predecessors.
This was just like a charging and restarting process. Let the mind quieten down, let the emotions soothe and relax, broaden the vision and landscape. The body was at the lowest, but the spirit would reach the peak, becoming strong and tolerant. Looking back, these previous troubles, hurtful people and past incidents, what could there be that could not be surpassed?
Xiao Zhan made the right choice after 227: he rarely spoke out, because he knew that everything he said would be wrong and would attract overwhelming abuse; he personally disbanded his fan support club, asking everyone to study hard and work hard; he temporarily set aside his work, but I believed he did not stop reading and thinking. Even after the legendary “8 Seconds of Red Sea” in Tencent Star Night in December 2020, he still insisted on staying low-key, and his gaze had changed visibly: some people would say that he was physically weak, so he went to the gym to do weight lifting and developed lovely muscles; some people would say that he did not use his own voice in acting, so he went to act in theaters, using the down-to-earth stage to hone his acting skills, hone his line skills, and learn from outstanding predecessors and peers.
The cyber terrorism then now made him a success instead. Time and time again data showing he was “massively ahead”, staying miles ahead in all kinds of rankings, making it hard for “antis” to continue their actions. 227 is about to celebrate its third anniversary, but his fans are more rational and have a wider age distribution and among them are many talented people who have personally written articles and videos to promote their idol to the world.
In the period where traffic stars are falling from grace one by one, where the Central Media criticizes the phenomenon of “desperate illiteracy”, Xiao Zhan, who has received a formal and complete university education, who knows how to use the 28 words to get through the trough period, defines himself as an “actor”, leading his fans to pursue positive energy, is especially precious. And the story of him moving out of the trough period should inspire more people.

A "Brief" "Review" of Sonic Lost World
I just finished the game and want to express my dissatisfaction (that's reviewspeak for hatred) for it. Wow that's the worst Sonic game I've ever played. I sincerely put it under Boom and Chronicles. It made me appreciate that at least Forces was semi-competant.
There's going to be two sections- one for story and one for gameplay. Basically if you want to skip a section go ahead. Amazingly both are just about equally bad okay review time
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/80320a2eff3fa0c8f65ef2aa81934cf8/dbd0057b299e9f3c-9f/s500x750/60fa88af67386a3bc96d2e38e9ece5dec7021c7b.jpg)
Part One - Gameplay is bad Sonic and also just bad?
Okay so I owned this game on the Wii U years ago and it got sold eventually so I rebought it on PC. I'm just saying this in case there is any weird PC version jank but also briefly I feel like this was a lazy port from the UI. All of the UI looked gross. Tangent out of the way here's actual content:
My main problem boils down to Sonic's controls being awful. Lost World is much more experimental with his control scheme in that it strips Sonic of his individual identity and makes him a generic platforming character. Most notably Lost World added a run button instead of the momentum mechanics that made Sonic unique. Honestly, the run button doesn't ruin the game or anything. I see it like tripping in Smash Bros. Brawl: really not that problematic but emblematic of a larger problem (for Brawl it's the general slower speed and for Lost World it's the lackluster movement for Sonic) Generally the saving grace for me is that, even in bad games like Sonic 06 and Heroes, at least Sonic will feel good to just generally maneuver with. Like running around is nice he controls good enough to give me my "Sonic kick" for the day. Lost World proves its lack of value by making him feel like sludge.
Sludge is heavy and slow feeling and gross and yep that fits. Jumping feels yucky and wallrunning is especially egregious. Wall running effectively ruined the game for me because, if you are holding the run button, you will always stick to a wall, for those unaware. Like always. Even when you don't want to. I don't even think you have to be holding in. Point is if you are trying to do like a running jump or something and Sonic goes near a wall he will decide "this is my new purpose" and stick to the wall. And he can only come down in two ways: 1. let his wall run timer run out (it's a few seconds) or 2. jump. Jumping is sometimes an option but it sets you back and in a lot of situations can kill you. So, especially in later parts of the game where platforming is tighter, you just have to wait for seconds sometimes while Sonic stands on the wall like an idiot. It's so infuriating because there is a way to counteract it: don't run. I think the fact that not running makes some of the game better says a lot. Gotta go slow I guess.
Also Sonic's attack options are... something. The homing attack is here as always with a new kick that is introduced to you like WAY later than it should have been (not even mentioned or needed until world 5/7, but more on that later). The new feature for the homing attack is the multi lock-on which oh boy howdy does it """function""". Pretty much you will never actually get a lock-on to a full set of enemies unless the game decides it spontaneously is feeling it that day. Generally more air time might help? Not sure because I definitely didn't succeed with the multi lock-on. For bosses, who only are one being, you can just lock on multiple times to do even more damage. Which basically adds up to you standing next to the boss for a hot minute. For the endgame refights this actually can just straight up instakill the bosses because they are absolutely pathetic.
Those bosses by the way, briefly disregarding the Deadly Six in the story because that's later I'll just say they are as interesting in gameplay as they are in the plot. You fight each of them 3 times. On the even number levels in their respective worlds and split up into two boss rush likes in world 7. I'm not going to go over all of the bosses mostly because they are SUPER forgettable. Like sincerely I don't think I even know how most of them worked. They all die in like two hits despite there being a whole world of buildup of "oh this one's gonna beat up Sonic into them just getting folded by three homing attacks. I think every time I beat a boss I though they were about to phase transition and just though "oh wait that's it." Super bland and underwhelming. Even the final boss! Eggman is the "surprise twist villain" and also an incredibly lame fight. How lame? there are five red rings scattered across his track. Playing the fight normally, I managed to not even be able to get the fifth ring while playing the stage. It's that quick of a final boss.
It's next to the two bushes in the screenshot (I apparently got like the worst frame my bad) but like Sonic could just stroll back there and grab it.
Only one boss needs to be mentioned and that's the Zavok zone 4 fight (the one where you're on the dragon thing). For one reason: the game literally does not provide the player the information needed to win the fight. Here's how the first two phases work: he charges, you kick him to break his block, you homing attack, he "runs" away to the next set of the dragon. Other fun fact, Sonic's walk is faster than Zavok's run. While trying to walk during the phase transition I had to slow down to not bump into him. Amazing. Then the last phase is a little different. You use the homing attacks to move him to the edge after which what do you do? Of course you have to use a multi lock-on homing attack with all 6 lock-ons! So why is this bad? Well main reason is just that it's entirely unintuitive. No other boss has required the big homing attack (that's what I'm calling the all 6 lock-on one now) so there is no reason to know it's in the game. I had no clue you could even lock on six, I was getting to three and assuming that was the max but nope. It's just infuriating because the game will multiple times have Sonic's confusing movement completely unexplained and this fight is just the worst example. I mentioned the kick only being mentioned in world 5 and the tutorial says you "press the duck button in midair" and that's also when I learned there was a duck button. Cool I guess.
Conclusion on gameplay: I've seen the consensus be, to some, that it's "bad Sonic but good gameplay" and I completely disagree. It's awful Sonic and still a bad game too. It's not ever going to provide the satisfaction that Sonic does but even looking beyond that it's a bland and boring platformer I'll probably not think about ever again after like next week (beyond it haunting my Steam library). But maybe the story is fine right? Yeah I'm not going to do this gimmick we all know it's awful.
Part Two - Story is bad Sonic and also just bad?
I'm going to further break this down by character because that's my real problem. The actual concept is fine enough - Eggman brought some big bads to like control the world while serving him but Sonic messes it up for him and the big bads try to destory the world. I'm going to just rip the bandaid off and start with said "big bads" because they are bad alright that's for certain. And evil too.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/dc16a49be5fb9ef7a84e96f21fd43370/dbd0057b299e9f3c-d6/s540x810/33514b5c351e67fd46cb2c2dae3e319f67acfa49.jpg)
They were also the worst part of Metal Virus but that's unrelated so I'll leave it at that.
Part 2.1 - The Deadly Six
First of all the designs. Even with the excellent IDW art they just look so boring. They feel like they were designed to be one off villains. I'm not an artist though so I'll leave the design analysis in more capable hands.
I can read though so lend me your ear and let me tell you why The Deadly Six are also just bad villains. I'm going to break all of their characters down for you right now (left to right)
1- Zazz: CRAZY
2- Zeena: woman
3- Zomom: Fat
4- Zavok - evil leader
5- Master Zik - wise
6- Zor: Sad
Wow that's literally it? I'm going to leave Zazz and Zomom alone because I hate them and wish to ignore them. I also want to explain that I think it's interesting that Zeena, the only female Zeti to appear, has her whole personality being vain and being interested in nails and fashion and calling Sonic a fashion disaster for some reason (leave him alone). Not to pull a feminism (full disclosure: not a woman) but that's an interesting characterization for the only female character in the entire game (besides Amy who only appears through ipad). Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's bad to depict a woman as liking fashion a lot and being into stereotypically feminine things because there are women who do like fashion a lot and that's cool! The problem is it's not a great look when that the only woman you depict.
Cool feminism over. Briefly on Master Zik - he's easily the most important besides Zavok, despite having less screentime than Zomom (they love that one fat joke). He actually does serve a role, albeit an uncreative one, as an advisor and mentor to Zavok. Even more brief on Zor - he was my least favorite at first but then I realized his entire existence was being in this fuckass game and yeah I'd wanna kill myself to so I can't hate him too much.
Now for the actual villain Zavok: he's bland. Like I really wish I could say more but there is nothing to say he's really bland. He wants to conquer the world I guess. Real original. I mean seriously this is the end of the segment because the writers couldn't even do anything interesting with the main villain. I can't even type a few lines about feminism again. Game's bad.
Part 2.2 - Eggman et al
Apologies for the weird picture there's surprisingly little official material on the front page of google images with Eggman, Orbot and Cubot.
So first Orbot and Cubot: Most "your mileage may vary" characters in the series to my knowledge. You already know if you like them or not and they are consistent that's for sure. I personally love them and the two of them were the highlights of the game. They made me not feel the urge to build a time machine and like hack into Sega and delete the script for the game. So that's cool.
Anyways Eggman's the actual villain so let's talk about him instead. Lost World has the most okay depiction of Eggman in the series I think. He doesn't really bring any interesting tech besides the conch (which is super irrelevant after Sonic kicks it for some reason. I guess the writers just forgot it). It's very textbook Eggman but with the caveat that he works with Sonic for like 10 minutes. Really the major plot point for Eggman is "he has to team up with Sonic" but it's super ineffective. Main issue being that he teams up with Sonic enough that it shouldn't be an idea that makes him want to scream like it seemingly does in game. I mean Adventure 2 and 06 both happened not too long ago in the canon timeline so what gives? The other reason it's ineffective is that he doesn't even do anything. No joke he sits there, makes Tails mad, and then Sonic runs off on his own until Eggman "shockingly" betrays him. There's a whole deal about him having to fix something but Tails does it anyways and... yeah I'm just going to move onto Tails because he's actually a relevant character to the story. Quick pit stop though:
Part 2.3 - Sonic the Hedgehog
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4171b7ef266a6d855cb4dfa11e739aa1/dbd0057b299e9f3c-9c/s540x810/4709f0fbf3cc79d007d4574af1c8dc8590d3e435.jpg)
2010s Sonic smh (shaking my hog). The only standout thing is that he's disturbingly apathetic. Like he sees a robotized version of Tails and really doesn't have much of a reaction. It's weird but the 2010s weren't really famous for great Sonic characterization now were they.
Part 2.4 - Tails
Everything I do circles back to this fox
Perfect image for Lost World Tails because he is MAD in this game.
So Lost World is arguably the worst characterization of Tails ever. Debatable if it's than Forces but the two of them are close together.
In Lost World, Tails is introduced by flexing his abilities on Sonic. Okay. Not even remotely what Tails does but sure. Like Tails is a humble bragger; the fox will throw out his achievements when it's relevant but wow his first scene (or one of I'm not bothering to go back and check) is just pure ego flaunting. Cool I'm sure these writers will handle him perfectly for the rest of the game.
Tails' next big thing is getting really mad about working with Eggman. Like really mad. He's incredibly aggressive towards Eggman. So, first off, he was right. But, in my opinion, it makes no sense for Tails to just openly say "we don't need Eggman I can do all this myself." Because he's simply more respectful than that. Tails isn't mean, but he would be cautious. I see why Tails would raise suspicion and it is odd that the one Sonic game to make Sonic and Eggman working together a point of conflict is also the only one where Sonic blindly trusts Eggman over Tails.
At least Tails has an actual kind of arc like substance over the course of the story. His whole deal is wanting to show Sonic that he's capable and make Sonic believe in him and he succeeds in the most nonchalant, completely emotionless ending ever featured in a Sonic game, where Tails just kind of unbreaks the world and then the credits roll. Cool. I don't think I need to say much else. Lost World Tails is not a good Tails.
Prower heads, we lost on this one.
CONCLUSION:
bad game 4/10 at best would refund but it was only $8 and maybe I'll feel the strange desire to prove my opinion about the game right again someday so I'll hold onto it. Thank you for reading all this, if you want to disagree or something go ahead I'll probably respond.
#sonic#sonic the hedgehog#sth#sonic lost world#I'm not tagging this Tails despite a major point being about Tails because you know what that wasn't Tails

Yellow Face.
Hwang Goes in Many Directions.

By Robert M Massimi. ( Broadway Bob).Published 7 minutes ago • 3 min read

Robert M. Massimi.
"Yellow Face" at the Todd Haimes Theatre is a difficult play to review in many ways. David Henry Hwang has made himself the lead actor, and he fills the story this semi-autobiographical story with lots of real life people that were involved in the "Miss Saigon" musical ruckus. Even though Hwang is detailed about the occurrences that shrouded the 1991 Tony Award Musical, the play's bad guy is made up and the writer doesn't reveal this until the show's end. First produced in 2007 at The Public Theater, the play focuses more on the laughs than it did back at The Public.
In "Yellow Face", Hwang (Daniel Dae Kim) is writing "Face Value" in response to the yellow-face casting of Johnathan Pryce in his first Broadway debut of "Miss Saigon". Being the first Asian American to have a play produced on Broadway, Hwang had some clout in getting Cameron Mackintosh to cancel the production. Hwang was an important voice, until he wasn't any longer. The show opened and proceeded to win multiple Tony's.
In the audition for "Face Value", Hwang wants to cast Marcus. G. Dahlman (Ryan Eggold), but others think that he does not look Asian. To Hwang's dismay, he calls racist to "Stereotype" Asians as having a certain look and build. Where this scene was more serious at The Public, it plays here for pure laughs.
The play's best- written scenes take place between Hwang and his father (Francis Jue). Jue is delightful in his role as a successful banker in Los Angeles who prizes his success and the American dream above all else. As the founder of Far East National Bank, he came to America and worked pressing laundry. To himself, he is the quintessential American dream; he quotes both American actors as well as American singers (Sinatra and Jimmy Stewart are two of his favorites).
Director Leigh Silverman works well with the talented cast; the actors for the most part keep us entertained for the one hour forty five minutes. Silverman did a better job here than when she directed this show at The Public.Where The Public had an intermission, this show does not. Anita Yavich are very plain and uninspiring. Lap Chi Chu's lighting design ran from glam to edgy. Arnulfo Maldonado's sets were creative and the blending of the sets with the scene's melded well. For the most part, "Yellow Face" was a good play for the most part. (at the 55 minute mark till the hour-five minute point the show slowed up quite a bit).
Taken on its face value, Hwang makes some resonate points about typecasting and how things are done in the theater world. Hwang, however, omits many factual points in his body of work: while he quotes yahoo Republican Congressman verbatim, he leaves out that Mr. Hwang hired Tom Bradley, then the mayor of Los Angeles, as a consultant. Mr. Bradley had also received a loan from the bank and at the same time secured $2 million in city funds. Hwang tells the audience that America killed his fathers dream and virtually killed him; that he ended up cursing the country that made him wealthy beyond his wildest dreams.
When reporter Greg Keller asks Hwang pointed questions, he comes off like a villain... he portrays the reporter as having a distorted idea of Asian Americans. Like so many liberal-minded writers, Hwang turned the reporter in a antagonist. He paints the white male reporter as a hater, as does so many plays that lean into the PC today on Broadway.
Hwang borders on hypocrisy when dealing with the "Miss Saigon" issue. In M.Butterfly he casted a cis gender to play the spy and not a transgender. He also never credited the real writer of "M.Butterfly", NY Times writer Joyce Wadler who reported the actual affair. The 1993 nonfiction book "Liaison" was used a source material for M.Butterfly and Wadler was never credited in the show's Playbill.
Broadway, Tony awards, Aladdin, The Lion King, The Roommate, McNeal, M.Butterfly, Sunset Boulevard, Romeo and Juliet, The Outsiders.

Mc Neal
"McNeal" Illusion vs Reality. What is the best play in this very early fall theater season, "McNeal" at Lincoln Center, has Robert Downey Jr, playing Jacob McNeal. Mr. Downey was custom made for this role; his firebrand, rapid fire style as the Nobel Laureate for Literature keeps the pace flowing for the one hour- forty five minute intermission-less play.

Art Inspires: a challenge
What kind of feelings does the above artwork evoke in you? Can you express them in words? If you are viewing this page as a Vocal creator, then the answer to this question ought to be an emphatic YES, even if the picture does not appeal to you. If you are a reader of stories such as this, and don't think of yourself as a story-writer or poet, then perhaps now is a good time to think again.

Review: O Kadhal Kanmani
Originally posted elsewhere on 16th April 2015
Disclaimer: I'm an unqualified reviewer. For a list of people who are qualified to write about OK Kanamani, please consult Suhasini Maniratnam
Despite how old you've gotten watching Mani Ratnam, the excitement of watching his next never diminishes. Especially, when the movie works - part experience and part nostalgia. OK Kanmani is as simple as Mani Ratnam gets and as profound as any of his classic films on love. No non-linear timelines, no metaphors, no value judgements and no message, just a straight love story from the Mani Ratnam we thought we'd lost.
Yes, OK Kanmani is going to be branded by many as an update on 'Alaipayuthe'. While there's superficial merits to parallels, any such comparison is missing a larger point. OK Kanmani is an affirmation that love endures anything, even the age of instant gratification, fleeting relationships and self-centered ambitions. A reassurance that love, like an stubborn virus evolves and trumps even the most testing environments.
Many filmmakers find the divisions in an ever-changing India. Mani Ratnam finds his in the grind between a conservative past and the liberal ideas of the present. O Kadhal Kanmani balances a society that holds its nose to anything unconventional against the attitudes of millennials for whom living together is a convenience and signing up for a commitment is a shallow formality - an after-thought.
Aadi (Dulquer Salman) and Tara (Nithya Menen) rush into an open relationship and a live-in arrangement with no intent of settling down. Her architect scholarship's about to take her to Paris; his gaming-dev skills have currency in the US. Can their casual, time-boxed courtship fall turn into a commitment they both dread and declare taboo? Sounds very time-worn and ripe for sentimental pickings. Mani Ratnam, of course, dresses it up with his unwavering sense of aesthetics and his insane level of insight into the Gen Y's mind.
For multitudes of us, falling in love or cherishing the feeling of love is a brief high, a phase of life that we leave behind, in our rush to get on with the challenges and rigours our life; not for Mani Ratnam. He is that rare director who can lead you back into that corner of your heart that once used to throb with the excitement of living the moments of love. His comfort with dealing a romance can give any young or even semi-seasoned (uh hmm, GVM) director a complex.
Mani Ratnam's been repeating his rule on casting for decades now - "50% of the film is casting". Although, at times we've felt he doesn't follow his own advice. Not with OKK. There are four primary characters and each one of them pivots the story with maturity and confidence. Prakash Raj, Nithya Menen & Dulquer (in that order) light up the screen with such familiarity and freshness, like regular folks plucked from their living rooms, their pajamas still on. Prakash Raj's hamming could have been a major problem 'cause he shoulders a sizable portion of the movie and is the emotional core of OKK. He's in a league of his own here - a completely winsome performer.
Rahman's presence in a Mani Ratnam film cannot be anything along expected lines. As with all Mani Ratnamm movies, none of the songs you've heard going into the movie remain the same (shortened, remixed and reimagined) and there's the on-screen-exclusive thukda songs that are used aplenty here too. Waiting to get my hands on the background classical-funky fusion track (Kalyani's theme), in particular.
As if to mock folks calling out Mani's pattern of using of trains and stations, almost every scene features a loco compartment. The opening scene, staged on the platforms of Mumbai's CS terminus is a kicker, Mani goes one better on his usually impressive starting sequence. Mani and PC Sriram put on a show that reminds us why people still whistle to title cards bearing their names. Same with the rain too - no shying away from them, plenty of emotions drained and drenched under it. The MR-PC combination pulls off magical moments on screen that should lay to rest any claims to "next Mani Ratnam" or "next PC Sriram".
OK Kanmani
