Blindspot
Dear Anon, thank you for your 5 further messages on the subject of Blindspot’s overseas shoots and the considerations for renewal. Whilst I am more optimistic than you on the prospects of a 4th Season, your opinions are interesting and worthy of a wider audience, so I am posting them below.
May I suggest that in future, if you wish people to hear and comment on your views, you consider sharing them openly and posting them under your own URL? I try to respond to most of the messages I receive, but do not always have the time.
Your point about the next episodes being crucial to renewal is a good one. I would like to urge everyone to get behind Audrey @ablindspotter ’s #RenewBlindspot campaign on Twitter. She is organizing another campaign for this Friday in Blindspot’ s usual US airing slot of 8/7C.

Hello. Me again. Martin Gero just wants to sell his show as best as he can as every smart showrunner is expected to do. And I would totally buy his claim if the show was a huge success that got a special treatment. That's unfortunately not the case. As for network shows that film abroad, there are several. An example most similar to Blindspot plot-wise and ratings-wise is Quantico. Check where they filmed for season 2 and currently filming for season 3. The rationale behind this decision is the same in both cases: they believe international locations could lure more viewers, even casual ones. Filming a few scenes abroad is not an additional cost that makes any huge difference. And the cost of renting equipment, hiring crew, scouting, etc. is low. Studios like those in Cape Town offer the whole package with really amazing support by local professionals in every step of the production (It took M. Gero longer to scout in NY than in Venice or Cape Town - he knew before landing there).
I urge those interested to check online for details, prices, etc. It could be cheaper to shot a scene in Table Mountain with that sunset as a background than use CGI to recreate it. And it could be cheaper booking 5 tickets and filming two days in Morocco than filming in Arizona desert in the US, paying an American crew. Please note that they did not film in Berlin, which was pivotal this season and I would expect some filming there, but rather in South Africa and Morocco, which are cheaper.
Anyway, if we want to be realistic neither filming abroad nor the steady below 0.6 ratings is an indication for / reason to renew the show. Blindspot is doing worse than Grimm or Emerald City in this timeslot last year and these ratings are low for NBC standards. Realistically speaking, WB will have to give money again to NBC to renew the show. Not because Blindspot is doing great abroad (no, if you check ratings between seasons in the UK, Italy, France, ) but because it's close to syndication and, most importantly, because of their working relationship with G. Berlanti who has become quite the figure in US TV. Currently, Blindspot is at 0.55 and dvr rating is also falling. WB could offer the money to renew it. But NBC worries what will happen to 0.55 next year. Because many wild cards have been played production-wise and plot-wise but that didn't help the ratings. The next 2-3 episodes may be crucial for defining where it lands for s4. Thank you for your time.
