#selkie zemo au

Random Zemo thought but all this talk about and love for Zemo’s coat makes me want a Selkie AU fic!

Zemo is a Selkie and reader gets his coat. Whether he gives it to her, she finds it, or she gives it back to him, up to you. I’m just thinking about Zemo claiming reader as his wife, whether she willingly knew about Selkie coats or not. Could be dark with Zemo pretending to be human and tricking her into marriage, or could be fluffy with them meeting on the beach. I just love monster AUs so much and I wish there were more for Zemo. 💜

“Sometimes it is revealed she already had a first husband of her own kind.” Maybe Selkie! Zemo already was married to Heike, also a Selkie and they had their son, Carl, but he lost both of them tragically. He’s a widower and he wants another wife, another chance at a family. A human wife, so that she’ll be safe from hunters who are after seal skin and he can protect her from other dangers.

“Male selkies are described as being very handsome in their human form, and having great seductive powers over human women. They typically seek those who are dissatisfied with their lives, such as married women waiting for their fishermen husbands.” Perhaps Selkie!Zemo is dark and either manipulates reader into coming with him and takes advantage of her vulnerable emotional and mental state while she’s dissatisfied with her life, or he’s fluffy and his intentions are pure when he comes to save reader from her life on land.

I was tagged by @glorious-spoon to post a section of a current WIP (7 sentences, technically, but like I could EVER keep it down to that) ... so here, have a little of the Sam/Zemo selkie Zemo AU that I mentioned earlier.

With the Flag-Smashers still in the wind, the boat a sinking money pit, the wings busted and the entire question of the shield up in the air, the last thing Sam wanted to deal with was opening the door of Sarah's house to find Zemo's butler standing on the porch.

"You need something?" Sam asked, taking him in. If the old guy had been working for the Zemo family as long as he apparently had, there was no way he was actually as harmless as he looked. 

He was carrying a long bag with a hanger, the sort that people stored nice suits of clothing in, draped over his arm. Behind him, a gleaming classic Mercedes looked entirely out of place under the live-oaks in Sarah's yard.

"I am sorry to bother you," the old man said. "I had nowhere else to go."

This startled a laugh out of Sam. "What the heck, do I look like a rest home for runaway criminals now?"

"What? Oh. No, not for myself. I am here to ask a favor on behalf of my employer." The old guy held out the bag. "Please keep this safe for us."

"Whoa, hold on, not a chance." Sam took a step back. If there was one thing he knew for sure, it was that being asked to hold onto mysterious bags by random criminals was something no reasonable person wanted any part of.

The thin lips curved in a smile. "It is nothing dangerous or illegal. See?"

He unzipped the bag a little way. A sliver of spotted white fur and a dark shoulder was revealed.

"That's his coat," Sam said. "What the hell. You're ... giving me his coat?"

It was all so bizarre he wanted to laugh.

"My employer is returning to prison, it appears. I would keep this safe for him, but I'm not young, and who knows when he will be out of prison again?"

"He's back in prison? News to me."

"Please," Oeznik said quietly. "I have no one else to ask. And I believe you're a trustworthy person."

"Come on, man. It's a coat, not the crown jewels."

But he took it. He felt stupid about it, but maybe he just had "Sam is a soft touch and also a sucker" blazoned on his forehead. Maybe he should look into doing something about that.

"If it turns out there's contraband in these pockets, I'm putting this straight into the trash. And you better believe I'll check."

But he wasn't sure if he actually meant it. There was something reverent about the way the old guy transferred the garment bag to his arms, gloved hands trailing away from it with a touch that was gentle and almost ... affectionate seemed like a weird word to use here, but it was, damn it.

"There is nothing here that will harm you," Oeznik said. He brushed his hand across the bag lightly and then pulled his hands back, leaving it in Sam's arms. It was heavier than it looked. "I trust you."

What the hell, Sam thought. Might as well find out what Oeznik was going on about.

He laid out the garment bag on the bed, struck all over again by its odd, slippery weight, and unzipped it.

The spotted fur ruff was exposed, but then—

Then it just kept being fur all the way down.

"What," Sam said under his breath.

The silver moonlight gleamed on a long expanse of silver and black fur. Sam touched it lightly with his fingertips, as if it was some kind of illusion and was going to vanish. But it was real, and it was silken soft, the softest thing he had ever touched.

"What," he said again.

He carefully lifted it out of the bag. There was more of it than it seemed like there ought to be, an entire coat's worth of sleek, silken pelt that melted over his arm as if it was made of moonlight and water. But it was heavy enough that it had to be real.

He ran a careful, gentle hand over the fur, marveling at its softness, and then he nearly dropped it when a number of different bits of folklore came together in his head.

No, he thought. No, no, no way.

He laid the glossy pelt very gently back in the bag, got his phone off the nightstand, and looked up what seals looked like.

It took about five seconds of googling to confirm that this was almost certainly a seal pelt. It was hard to tell what kind; there were a bunch with spotted pelts, black and gray and white. But that was definitely what this was.

Sam draped his arm over his knees with the phone held loosely in his fingers, and looked at the sealskin beside him on the bed, and said a very heartfelt, "Fuck."

what does selkie zemo mean?

It's an AU I'm working on based on the selkie myth.

Selkies are mythological creatures who transform into seals by putting on a seal skin, and the myth is that you can force one to marry you by stealing and hiding their skin. In this case the sealskin is his coat, and Sam doesn't initially realize what properties it has or that him having it is going to have any effect on Zemo (which in fact it does).

So that's what Selkie Zemo is all about!

Oh my goodness I am already hopelessly in love with the Sam/Selkie Zemo story. Your Sam is so 1000% Sam! How he instinctively has Oeznik’s number even though all he’s ever seen is the doddering butler act! His inner dialogue re “maybe he just had “Sam is a soft touch and also a sucker” blazoned on his forehead.” - HA! And Oezniik (Who as we know is an extremely dangerous dude) making himself vulnerable. “I trust you”. **clutches heart”. Thank you for this snippet!!
