“So it was you” he slowly walks up to her, he is past the table when her fingertips reach out for the pelt hoping the movement goes unnoticed, it doesn’t. He flings himself against her taking her by the arm holding tight his other hand goes directly to her neck as he drives her against a wall. Her skull hits the stone and her entire body vibrates with the impact, gritting her teeth she snarls at him. “Why?” His long fingers close around her throat pressing against her skin she can feel as they leave a mark. He leans in close to her ear, the scent of pine and something deep and intense, earthy. “I could so easily break you, fragile like a little sparrow” he presses his thumb into the curve of her jaw and neck.“But first answer me, why ?”

She watches him from afar; tall and fair, commanding men at land and at sea.

His voice is a coarse thing, low and melodic.

She thinks of it as she falls asleep.

Her father warns her of men and their capacity to harm.

To him, from where he hides beneath the ocean, life is danger.

To her, life is a mystery she must learn for herself.

She plans carefully.

She waits until nightfall to bury her skin in the sand, then dons her stolen dress.

She walks on novel, unsure legs until she finds him.

The tavern is loud, but it doesn’t matter.

His eyes scan her human form with hunger, appreciation.

He approaches her, speaks. She smiles.

He leads her around the room, hand warming her back.

She matches his steps gracelessly, giggling.

Under his attention, his affection, she blooms.

He leads her to his quarters, she follows.

From him she learns and she takes, to him she gives.

The cycle builds, and it crests, and it falls.

He leaves her as sated as her curiosity.

The vessel of his body is a home not unlike the one that awaits her beneath the sea.

Warmer, dryer, less familiar, but a comfort all the same.

In his arms, between the soft furs that line his bed, she finds bliss.

Head to his chest, she basks in his heat as his breathing grows more and more even.

Once he’s asleep, she untangles her limbs from his own.

She will miss him, she is certain.

She will think, for the rest of her life, of this one perfect night spent ashore.

Still, the sand beneath her bare feet is a relief.

She retraces her steps, the slight glow of first light ghosting along the horizon.

Her timing is perfect.

Except.

It is not where she’d left it.

The hole she’d dug in the sand is empty.

Behind remains a shallow grave.

Men stream towards her, leering.

Some she recognizes from the tavern, others she does not.

POV: Draco takes home an injured otter only for it turn into a beautiful woman the next day. She names herself Hermione and is revealed to be a selkie.

She tells him she wants to go home but he can't seem to let her go just yet. After all, she's still injured, so he takes it upon himself to keep her otter skin in the meantime.

so, yes, i would absolutely, no questions asked, recommend Time and Tide. but this fic is not my typical dramione fic rec whatsoever. at 10 chapters and under 30k words, it is pretty short, so there's no slowburn there. their relationship builds pretty quickly, but not abruptly. hermione being a selkie is one of the biggest story points in this fic, which i loved. i don't feel like i see many creature!hermione fics, honestly. the most notable feature of this fic, though, is just the writing itself. i mean, it's beautiful. you can absolutely tell the author is a seasoned and talented writer. for a short fic, the characterization is great and the entire time i was practically screaming, "PLEASE WORK OUT PLEASE GET SAFE PLEASE BE HAPPY" at my kindle.

also, for the record, there are two endings to this fic. one is HEA, but one is not. both contain smut. i read both because of course i did. the non-HEA version felt a little rushed and...underbaked? i don't love criticizing the work that amazing fic authors do for free, but it is worth noting. if you are going to read one ending, i highly suggest the HEA one, not just for your own mental health, but also for the story. the HEA one isn't even totally HEA, so the edginess is still present!

Okay, I don't remember a lot but what I do remember is Hogwarts was flooding thanks to water from the great lake, it was during the Battle of Hogwarts, the golden trio was with the slytherins when it happened, some of the slytherins were half creatures and they were leaving in groups but some had to stay behind to make sure they didn't get swept away by the water/all of them didn't drown quickly. The group consisted of Draco, Harry, Hermione, Ron, Millicent Bulstrode, Pansy, Tracey Davis, Blaine Zabini and Theodore Nott. I remember Lucius (who was in a relationship with Snape) was looking for Draco and Harry during the battle. I remember Millicent Bulstrode was a selkie and before the place started flooding they were playing truth or dare or 20 questions, it was some sort of what they referred to as a muggle game lastly I remember some of them climbing a makeshift ladder then also Pansy getting swept away but turning up alive later on. Sorry if this isn't enough situation 😓

TMI Tuesday

So, for the past month and the current one, my writing has one focus: wrapping up several WIPs so I can get the number down to manageable levels. At the start of July, I had four that I wanted to get done by the end of August. That number has gone up to six. But as of Saturday, three of them were done: the Barbgrove selkie fic, a Barbgrove stripper!Billy oneshot, and the Rumbelle Swan Lake AU. My goal, which I may or may not reach this month, is to have three more finished: a Hellcheer Upside Down oneshot (which will probably be done later today), a Hellcheer vampire fic loosely inspired by Astarion from Baldur’s Gate 3, and a Rumbelle fic loosely inspired by Pushing Daisies (a show I have yet to watch). I also have a Snape/Hermione fic that’s been sitting half-finished for about three years that I should really crank out.

Needless to say, this effort to close out WIPs is forcing me to put others on the back burner for now. Once September comes, things will open back up somewhat; while I’ll be working on a Hellcheer Halloween fic, I’ll have room for other stuff in between. And after that, I’ll have a Hellcheer Christmas fic.

So… yeah. That’s what I’ve got going on. My adventures with sleep apnea set my writing back by months, which is frustrating. And while I’m eager to get back on track, I also can’t go burning myself out. I’d really love to get my WIP number under 20 by the end of the year. Once I do that, I can spend more of my effort whittling down WIPs until I feel comfortable starting new ones.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 562,348, which is honestly insane

3. What fandoms do you write for? right now mostly stranger things. I've got most of a ted lasso fic written but who knows if that'll get posted?? and prev, harry potter.

What are your top 5 fics by kudos? 1. don't take this sinner (dramione, marriage law ish), 2. same as it ever was (steddie, two timelines, one of my first steddie fics!) 3. carve your name into my chest (steddie, the hockey au of my dreams) 4. come get your man (he got lost in my DMs) (steddie, social media, steve being a horny DM guy) 5. there'll be a riot (cause I know you) (steddie, the matty-healy-rat-man-Eddie-vibed mostly smut fic)

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? ugh. I WISH!!!! I want to be better at this, I really do. I usually start strong but I end up with limited energy/time and I want to filter that into writing more. if you've ever commented: I FUCKING LOVE YOU and think you're SO cool! if you really WANT a reply, the best way to get that is to ask me questions haha. it starts to feel weird just "thank you!"ing everyone, ya know?

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I am.... not an angsty ending person tbqh! I think the closest is probably you love the sea, which is a flintwood rarepair selkie fic that I deeply love. it ends happy, insofaras they end up TOGETHER, but if you think more about the implications and how fucking sad it's going to be for oliver... well. I'll leave that to you guys.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? god, I'm well known for having "endings so happy they border on absurd", according to one person online. so, pick your poison I guess! anyways the fic THAT person was referring to was same as it ever was, so, let's go with that!

8. Do you get hate on fics? I have been so lucky lately to not get much hate at all lately, which is a real privilege in the fandom world. remember that I cut my teeth in early days of harry potter, and people were BRUTAL. I definitely HAVE gotten hate - my aforementioned dramione fic has a bit of a weird twist that some people were PISSED about (and once I got an incredibly detailed comment about how badly I fucked up my representation of black Hermione because she... didn't talk that much about hating her hair? which I know is AN experience but not necessarily a universal one) but overall, at least this fandom go around, no hate. thank you, everyone, for that!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? yes. lots and lots and lots of it. mostly kinda kinky and pretty much all pretty gay. let's not talk about how many times I've had to tag dacryphilia and what that means. I just like when people fuck about things, yknow?

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? nope, never! and I likely never will. too much to keep track of.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? not that I know of, thank god for that.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? I've had requests but... I would need a translator willing to work pretty closely with me because I want to make sure certain choices come across well, and I haven't found that yet.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? not officially, though I did write a buckingham companion piece to the amazing cowboy-bar fic @riality-check did!

14. What’s your all time favorite ship? OH GOD don't make me choose! ALL TIME is still probably dramione, but steddie is a very close second. in terms of canon ships, I'm such a sucker for buffy/spike (leave me alone), and veronica mars/logan (AGAIN LEAVE ME ALONE) and rory/logan (BECAUSE RICH WHITE BOYS NAMED LOGAN ARE A WEAKNESS, APPARENTLY)

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? pour one OUT for you can't take the sky from me, which is my firefly inspired harry potter au ft pansy/percy, mostly because I had so many big plans for it that I've completely forgotten AND I just can't write in that fandom at all anymore. sorry everyone, I do love what I put out and I wish there was more of it.

16. What are your writing strengths? prose, smut, tying things together with little bows, and spending way too much time in my characters heads

17. What are your writing weaknesses? dual POVs, getting so lost in one character I don't flesh out the others as much as I mean to, action sequences, and consistent motivation

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I've done it before (mostly in clean ice, cold hearts, can't lose) and my typical strategy is to indicate that the characters are speaking a diff language (in french, I use guillements and italics) but not to actually WRITE the french, unless it's very short and the POV character doesn't understand it on purpose like in carve.

19. First fandom you wrote for? harry potter baby! my oldest posted fic that I've found online was from 2002, when I was... too young to be interacting with the internet like that, that's for sure.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written? carve your name into my chest and it's no contest. I love same as it ever was as well, which I think is a better WRITTEN fic technically speaking, but carve was a huge passion project that I had so much fun with, and the response to it had been one of my favourite things in the world. oh, and special shout out to make this inn our own, which is my second longest fic ever and was just an absolute joy to do. so, those three, I guess!

Head Underwater for my love @andrigyn! A thriller featuring Selkie!Tom and marine biologist!Hermione.

Hermione slid into the next room, sopping shoes skidding on shards of shattered glass hidden beneath the blood-tinged water sloshing at her ankles. She had to draw it into the deepest parts of the lab, distract it, so the rest of them could escape. The ones who were left, anyway. She shuddered as the image of the sinking ferry flashed across her mind again.

She scrambled down the slick rungs of the ladder, the only indication that her plan was working was the reflection in the lab windows of the shadow steadily following behind her. The creature’s steps were smooth, unhurried. Not a single splash was heard, as if it were walking upon the water itself.

Her mind raced as she descended, flipping through one possibility after the other. She’d been so sure it was a man. It had looked like one, until she’d seen nothing but a wave of its hand channel seawater straight through the steel wall of the observatory. A mere incline of its head had shattered the thick glass of the shark tank, inviting the beasts to feast on her colleagues…

No, that thing wasn’t human.

Hermione reached the dead end of the lab wall, and felt around desperately for the emergency exit. She could barely see in the flickering generator lights, but if she could just find the handle, perhaps-

Her hand grasped the rubbery red lever she’d hoped she’d never have to use, and a huff of triumph burst from her straining lungs.

Short-lived triumph, as two cold, slick hands clamped over hers. She was trapped against the door, the creature caging her in from behind. The strong scent of salt and sea foam enveloped her, sickening her now, though she used to enjoy the same comforting smell on the ocean breeze.

Hermione froze. Struggling would do no good, she knew. She needed to negotiate with it. Buy time for her friends to escape.

“What do you want from us?” Her voice trembled with cold and fear.

It stroked her hands with its clammy thumbs, and chuckled in her ear, a sound that struck her as eerily familiar.

“You summoned me, Hermione,” it responded in its high, cold voice. Too clear to be human. “Tell me, what is it that you want?”

Draco sat on the rocks, gazing. The night sky was lit by countless stars and the sea by their reflection. He sat there hoping, wishing upon every star that she would come, breathing in rhythm to the sea lazily crashing in spilling waves.

There was no moon upon him, only starlight and the candle he had brought. Charmed to survive the gale that sometimes rose, washing over the land, clinging to the cliffs and to the walls of his family’s seat. His hand toyed with the flame, his mind lost to memories of her and of her fascination with fire. His eyes drifted up to the stars, wishing again, and he let his heart soar high above him. She haunted his thoughts, made him wish to do grand and wonderful things in her name, and yet he could not. For all his wealth, Draco Malfoy could do absolutely nothing, for this was wrong.

He was wrong. Sitting at this beach hoping for her, wanting her, was wrong. Cheating on sweet but sickly Astoria was wrong. Having a relationship with a magical beast was wrong, but gods be damned, he could not be wrong when she felt so right.

Harry and Ron will have spent their Christmas vacation at the twins' magic shop trying to figure out the right gift to give their ghostly friend for his noble service
